Yup. Which all goes to say, you guys at Paizo really don't need any second-guessing by corporate overlords.

While I certanly agree that the qualty of Paizo is grater than that of WotC (and that some of the greatest WotC books are done by Paizonians [I loved Fiend Folio-great work, James!]), I think your comment is somewhat unfair. wasn't it supposed to be forbidden to pupsefully flame other companies in the messgeboards?

Indeed, I think that playing with the starting and ending levels of AP's would be great. I like having an edvanture ready for evrey situation or player, and if it could be an awsome AP with a continued, developed story, I'm absloutly for it. if, say, AP 5 (or 6, if the Paizo guys don't want to do it to exprimntle) could start at 6th/10th level, and run up untill the very top of non epic PC power.

I add my voice to the cry for varied levels!

hey guys.
I want to share a magical story with you: a long long time ago, a little child whov'e herd for the first time about Loleth, the spider queen, mistress of the Drow, lady of the demonweb had a spark of inspartion. he set down by his computer and worte a monster he designd himself- hes very first one. half a decade later, that same boy (yours sincerly), now a nearlt grown kid, havr read the wonderfull instalment of SDAP, "the armaggedon echo." he thought it was great, but it botherd him that there was nearly nothing to fight execpt drow and classic spider beasties. so he now considers changing things.

back to the present writing grammer, I thought to maybe pot one or two of the creatures you will read about in a moment, instead of, say, the Drider in the library or Kardrogas the drow barbarian. so... what say you, fellow Paizonins?

Servants of Loleth
Loleth is not called the weaver of souls for nothing. Lurking in her layer of hell, the goddess spins her web of evil, capturing the damned souls of the vilest Drow that died in her service and transforming them into horrible monstrosities. Those mutated souls are simply called The Servants of Loleth, a name that suits them perfectly since they barely ever leave her home plain in hell, unless they receive a direct order from her or are summoned by a mortal worshipper. They serve their mistress as both guardians and citizens, and most of the residents under her domain are Servants.
The servants bare a general resemblance to their mortal forms, mainly the fact that they are still humanoid in shape. Their average height is 4.5 meters (about 15 feet), and their skin is very soft, pale and vulnerable. A huge variety of forms exist, but every one of the servants has some sort of arachnid body features, such as a pair of extra spidery limbs, pincers, or even an inner body system that enables them to spit or weave spider webs. They typically weigh 200 pounds.

Ecology:
The servants of Loleth are crated by the Spider goddess herself, their souls like flies captured in a spider web. Usually they are Drow or other mortal worshippers, but they are always intelligent humanoids. In extremely rare occasions, Loleth manages to capture the unaware soul of an innocent, and she considers this to be the greatest pleasure of all.
During the transformations, the Servants loss all of their former selves and become only another nameless creation of Loleth. They are utterly evil and merciless, and will not be stopped by anything until they fulfill their duty.

Society
The Servants tend to be very unsociable, and they interact with each other only during ritualistic ceremonies. Even if a band of them were sent together to achieve a single, common goal, they will not cooperate unless it is undeniably necessary. They roan the realms of Loleth with no clear aim until they receive a mission. The Servants cannot talk.

Ability description
Loleth's grace:
Loleth is known as a very generous goddess-and she grants her followers appropriate gifts so that they could forefill her assignments. All Servants are granted a +6 deflection bonus to their AC's. physically, there appears to be green light surrounding them like an aura, blocking blows in mid-air.
Constricting webs:
If there is enough webs in a 100 ft radios around the servant (ten square feet would be sufficient for medium creatures, twice for large, half for small, etc.), he can manipulate them in the air as though he had telekinesis with no weight limits and throw them at foes as a full round action. They often use this ability to wrap the webs around them and squeeze hard to constrict the target. The victim of this power must make a grapple check against the Servant's grapple bonus + 10 (normally +14 total) or suffer 6d6 crushing damage. If the victim wins by 5 or less he only suffer half of the damage. If more than 5, he breaks free of the hold altogether.
Breath weapon:
The servant's breath weapon is a very unique one. Once per 1d4 rounds, he may use it as a 20 ft. cone. In the area, tiny spiders are spat from the creatures mouth to attack anything in their path, and they receive an immediate attack of opportunity. The Servant can choose between breathing out 3d10 tiny spiders, 1d6 small ones or 1 medium spider. Later, the spiders join battle as normal, but they typically die within 24 hours of their exposure to the world.
Poison:
Every neutral attack delivered by the Servant also injects poison into the victim (vie tiny tendril- like spikes on their bodies-see Spiderman the movie for a clearer description). Fortitude save DC 20, primary damage 1d6 strength, secondary 1d4 constitution.
Spider organs:
Each Servant has two of the following. Roll a d6 or decide on your own.

1) Rough fur: the Servant is covered with a rough fur like a spider. It has +2 natural AC.

2) Pincers: spider pincers erupting from the edges of the mouth. Bite damage 1d8+3, and poison (see above).

3) Spider Limbs: from it's upper back, the Servant has a pair of etched spider legs. He cannot use them to hold anything, but he gains two slam attacks per round, for 1d8+3 plus poison, that replace his normal attacks. They (the limbs) have a range of 10 ft.

4) Web spatter: this body part replaces the normal breat weapon. Once every 1d4 rounds, the servant can spit a small globe of webs that can fly up to a range of 30 ft. (treat as a grenade like weapon) and then explode on an AOE of a 10 ft radius. It acts as a spider web spell cast by an 8th level cleric (save DC 21).
5) Web weaver: since this takes lots of time to activate, the ability is not useful during combat. The servant can slowly produce and weave webs from his hands, creating a total of a 10X10 feet large web of any shape for a complete hour of work.

6) Extra eyes: the servant has an all around vision (he can't be sneak attacked or flanked), and has true sight.

If already wanting to talk about "real-feel" to dungeons, you want to consider some logistic troubles the defenders of the place will have.
first and foremost, not all the encounters are with inteligant, or even mobile foes. those should probably stay where they are regardeless of any alarm.
second, in cases of the PC's infeltraiting a well organized milattry location, such as a castle, it dosen't mean all possible reanforcments will rush to face them immediatly. most soldiers will take defansive positions around critical locaitions and\or castle gates and walls. also, soldiers attack in numbers. they will first have to randavouz with their fellow squadmates and officers before rashing into combat. all of the confusion and will almost surley allow smart PC's to hide themeselves and continue their exploration more descretly.
in cases of the PC's simly crawling through a dungeon filled with monsters... well, if you kill a tiger in the jungle, the elephants won't rush in to evange him.
when it comes to the bottom line, attacking an organized defending position is not recomendad for low level PC's.

Also, it isn't by Paizo but I'd take a look at The Green Ronin Apocalypse Sale. I just got the 2 Advanced rulebooks that are on sale (a total of around $16 with shipping for about 400 pages), and I consider them to be better than a lot of the stuff that Wizards put out in the last few years of "official" 3rd edition.

already have those (the bestiary and the DM's guide). execlent books.

anyway, most recommanditions seem to be for the campign setting and the guide to korvosa, so I'll get those. I have the PDF of classic monsters revisited-somehow I forgot to mention it. I won't by anything 4th edition, becasue I'm unwilling to buy the core rulebooks (purely a financiel considerition).
thanks to all of you!

I have a spare 100$ I decided to use to widen my Paizo lybrary. I am a subscriber to the PFAP and love them, but I don't have RotRL (started with CotCT,but I have any of the accories), I don't have the Golarion campign setting hardcover. I have the Gallery of Evil, Carnival of Tears, Crown of the Kobold King and Entombed with the Pheroes modules and love them all, and consider whether I should buy more.
so what's best among all those things I don't have? how to wisly fill my 100$ budget?

SPOILER-

Spoiler:

my, these guys are never going to make it past Children of the Void. I mean, a group of spellcasters against dozens of quick, stealthy and magic resistent melee fighters on a deserted island? ouch!

END OF SPOILERS

Good luck!

I don't know - maybe the defanition you read includes the family members of the survivors? because there are a lot of those...

1.The Haaretz article I read did not define what they meant by "survivor." It was covering riots that occured in 2005 because "40% of the 400,000 Israeli Holocaust survivors lived below the poverty line." Those are their words, and they did not clarify the statement. The U.N. report covered survivors benefits and cited the same number, but did not state where they got those numbers from, at least not that I could find. I agree the numbers can be misleading. it is much like here in the United States.

2. I had a chance to volunteer at a nursing home in Mississippi and met a woman who was a "Civil War widow." As I got to know her i found out that her family had married her off to a 50 year old man when she was 14 so that they could have the prestige of being a "Confederate" family. But because her husband was a Civil War veteran, she still got survivors benefits. It was kind of sad when I was informed that she passed away a couple of years ago, she was a really nice lady.

1. I checked the internet, and found that there sould be around 200K survivors - but the defenition for them is way wider then mine. it seems to include evreyone that lived in germany between 1933-1945, any one who took part in the world war (and the spanish civil war that came before), anyone who was bunished from his home (mostly russians, but the veriety is huge)and even those who boarded a shup to get to Isreal. I only talked about those who actually survived a geto or one of the others inventive was the natsiz call their death camp.

2. you now, this story is rather sad. I didn't think people still did things like that in america for the last century.

a.Please, feel free to say what you really think.

b. However I do find it interesting that you characterize the Holocaust survivors in Israel as a few thousand lonly old men mostly living in poverty when other reports I have read, including in the English version of Haaretz and from the U.N. place the number at 400,000 (which is about 18% of Israel's current population) and less than half live in poverty. Don't get me wrong, I trust you know what you are talking about, but we here in the U.S. are being given a much different picture than you are painting.

a. the first ward that came to my mind when I read your poast was "B!%+&*#~", but I consider it unfair to say such a thing.

b. well, I don't now about english news papers, but I used to volenteer in the local house for holocaust survivors, and they were old, and poor and treated unfarily.also, my own grandmother have passed it. she is quite a happy woman and doing well for her age- but she was only a child when it happened, and she herself everted the worst of it (her father did not, and his fate is unknown).
I now live in another area of the country and from what Iv'e seen, it's the same here. I don't know - maybe the defanition you read includes the family members of the survivors? because there are a lot of those...
anyway, I thought about the thing a little bit tonight (which is now-diffrent time area), and concloded that maybe we Israely are a bit holocaust paranoids... but not because of the 1942. we fear beacause we are living on the brink of defeat ever since we won against overwhlming odds in 1951, when we finally achived indipendance.

talking about the wider spectrum of this issiue (religeon and all this)- I think you all are using a wrong name for this human phenomenon. the correct one is ideolgy. you only need to take a brief glance at a history book of the 20th century to see that. the Fascism, for example. one of their fameos motos was: "you must respact God-but remember that Mosolini is the god of Italy". clearly this shows how closly realetd religeon and totilarism are. in fact, I belive religeon to be a specific, albiet wildly encounterd manifstition of ideolgy. it is both a showcase of human insanty and of the best aspects of human culture. I use to think that only mankind could destroy such a beautyfull ideal.

David Fryer wrote:

The only real way to address the hate is to locate and deal with the causes of the fear. In Israel, one of the reason for the fear is the fact that many of the top leaders are Holocaust survivors. Much of the early retoric of Palestinian leaders talked about driving the Jews into the sea. For a people who had just experienced sumething as horrific as the Holocaust this must have been terrifying. Therefore they dug in their heels, taught the anger to their children, and the cycle began.

now, I assume you was talking out of ignorance, so I will not say what I really think about what you said, but you are wrong.

and how can I know? simple: I live there. I am from Isreal, and things there work really defrently than what you guys imgine.
first, about the whole "Holucst-phobia" thing - wrong. there are now only severl thousands of holcust survivors in isreal, most of them very poor and lonely. the survivors were, throughout Israliean history, broken man. most of them barely managed to form new famalies, let alone find a job. those few who actually menaged to rebuild their lives and reach a high position in the govermant, are trully outstanding folk, and are experts of rational thinking. hence, the origen of fear is not in them, but in small grops on bouth sides of the conflict.
the Jewish group is, of course, the religeous fanatics. thankfully, there are very small numbers of them, so they can do realtivley little. they do try however - as I am writing, ongoing gang wars are taking place in a city named Acho - it began a few days ago. there was a Jewish holiday, and by tradition it is forbidden to drive cars in that day (most of the non religeous Jewish cmmounity, myself among them, still uses the oprtunity to go around driving on bycicles at the middle of highways in this day, though this is supposed to forbiden too). one arabian resident of the city drove his car on that day. he was immdiatly lynched by some Jewish idiots and barley survived. the arabians got really angry and sent a mob of their on, and so the tiny war began.
anyhow, to the main topic. as we all know, the arabic opposition to us Jews is led by much stronger organiastions of terror. the pepole of Palstin and Lebanon are the greatest victims. they are abused by the Hammas and Hysballhe to fight us - and we are forced to fight back. since for months now the Hammas is bombarding our southren citys, we are forced into increasingly drastic actions as the time passes. many times civilians are hurt by our raids... but mostly they are aimed against the terrorists. with children and civilains suffring so much from our attacks, it is no wonder they hate and fear us. the fear, the evil, the wrongness is centerd in the terror organaistions, led by selfish, fanatic man. when playing D&D, I often remained my players that there is no such thing as true evil... but sometimes I think that to see such a thing, I need only watch Nassrela or one of hes allies on TV.

one last thing, about women terrorists. they are among the most potent wepons in the terror's disposel. you see, with all the trdisonal robes and layrs of clothing, it is very hard to tell if they carrie any extra whight... such as a bomb. and of course, males are forbidden to touch them. since it will only increase the hatred if we did defrantly,we do our best to respect the muslims even in times of high alert. so only women are alowed to inspect them. in many cases, there is no female soldier\officer in the area, and that leades to fear. most of the sucide bombing attacks done in malls and shops and places like that are performed by woman.

If so, great. If not, then it's not a "great TPK", it's a group of people who might have liked D&D, but who are now turned off to the hobby.

Actually, we all had a great time. I informed the players stright from the beggining that they would very probably fail, so it wasn't that much of a shock to anyone. however, they did keep talking about it for hours later. the only reason we stopped playing was that I was tierd... so it was a great TPK.

Enraged, the PC's tracked /julian through the desert, and nearly got killed by the ambush the ligeoners set up. instead of resting a it, they persued on (still wonded and nearly resourceless), reasoning that "We wolden't make it in time to catch the *@#%&$ in time if we rested too long". so they reched the pyramid. instead of using their Fly spell, the fighter tried to climb... and fell from the hight of 40 Ft., suffring a total of 14 HP. than they used Fly. when they got in and walked down the corridor, they immdietly run into the Mummie. they could have won that fight with no special probalms. the fighter and the cleric flanked it while the rouge was firing missiles from the shadows, when the wizard decided he needed to help his comrades... and shot Lightning bolt closely followed by Burning hands... and of course, those spells being AOE, he caused enourmos damage to the rest of the PC's. the cleric went down, bleeding with -6 HP. fighter tried to stablize him, and the rouge switched to meele to cover him, and of course the mummie hit the rouge. evntually they killed the mummie, and reasoned that since the cleric's down and they don't have any potion left to bring him back to consiossnes, they will push forward with no rest. the next room they enterd contained, unforunatley for them, the sawrms of flying organs. God knows why, they stood their ground insted of fleeing. the wizard used his scroll of fireball to blast one of the swarms, and the fighter finished it. meanwhile, the other two messed the poor wonded rouge, who died instantly. seeing how desprate things became, the fighter handed Sav a wond of Scorching Rays, and Sav started firing on the swarms. one of the sawrms moved to attack the wizard, sucking him dry of blood in two rounds (second death, so far). the last one coup the graced the unconsioss cleric (3rd place). the fighter gave a great battle cry and dashed forward, having great rolls and luck, and with the covering fire of Sav, he managed to destroy all of the tiny evil organs, having only 4 HP left. he turned around to face Sav, crying "Thank you so much, brother!", when Sav gave him a cold, sinister stare in return, and then said, "Good bye, 'brother'", and blasted him to oblivion with the wond of Scorching Rays. later Sav looted all the bodies and evntually cought up with the Pracount.

I had a near half TPK with Edge of Anarchy. when trying to solve the problam of All the Worlds' Meat, two of my PC's tried to gain the trust of the regnade guards (to gather intelagence from inside the actual building before storming it). they didn't handle the diplomecy well, though, and at least one of them started a fight. try to imegine a wizard and a rouge in a melle encounter with 2 2nd lev. wariors... the rouge somehow managed to escape, leaving the wizard behind, to later be entrogaited by the thugs. when the rest of the party came to save him, the thugs were just a few hours shay of killing him for extra meet.

For purposes of this bit of advice, the half-dragon template counts as 5 templates. :-)

Ahh, half-dragons deserve a comeback!

Has the template been used by Paizo during the last 3 years? I cannot recall an adventure that features them......
I have yet to see an author whose ideas are good enough to justify a return of the half-dragon to prominence. Take that as a challenge if you will, but I'm pretty sick of this template, since in early 3.0 era it seemed that every other monster was a half dragon.

Yeah, but in the last dozen years era evrey other monster was a Drow, too, and that didn't stop anyone from creating SD AP, right? It still can be great, if it's done right.

MASSIVE SPOILERS THROUGHOUT... obviously, it's the "CotCT" forums.

The group I'm DMing has locked up a good number of the baddies from "Edge of Anarchy" in the Citadel. I imagine that they'll do the same through the next two adventures.

For our campaign, I like the idea of one of Ileosa's more twisted lackeys freeing the inmates and locking the place up tight, where they'd "run the asylum." There's no real need to assault the Citadel, but if they want to check it out, they'd be in for a disturbing (if not especially threatening) scene.

Am I missing something? In "Crown of Fangs" all of the big bad's forces are quartered... well, you know where. The Citadel seems like it'd be run by a skeleton crew of pressed-into-service citizens, maybe thugs rather than well-trained guards, while the former occupants have deserted or gone underground.

spoilers ahad, O' course.

Yes, the wat Crown of fangs presents the situation, any assult on citadel Volshinek wouldn't be untresting\logical... it's just that I don't like the way Crown of Fangs does, and am going to do some massive changes in my campign. for example, I will encourge my players to do an actual rebelion in Korvosa, attcking critical locations (such as citadel Volshinek), having some tight querters massive urban battles and recrouting allies (Such as winning back the favor of the church of abadar, or convincing the verisians\shoanti to give further milltary aid). that way, I could relocate some of the demons and other guardians from Castle Korvosa to other locations, and the infeltration to the castle will feel less like a dungeon crawl.
thanks aout the inmates idea though- it's brillient!

Yes, in "The revange of the sith", when Obi wun and Yoda assult the ceptured Jedi temple and activite the securty camras' hologram, we (as the audience) can see the recorded Vader slueghtering severl Jedi knights, and at some point, Obi-wun says "Even the younglings...".
so yes, he did.

Aye, it's about time!
so does anyone know how much time before they actually mail them to us?

actually, if evrey citizen would have 1$ million more, the situation wouldn't be so crazy, espacially if it comes with the comitment to keep your steady job. anyway, the crazy fever of "now I have lots of money and I don't need to work would last a month, two months top, but it will subdue to noramallty shortly thereafter.
of course it's still not a very bright move and there will be complications, but it wouldn't be the hell you described. or so I belive.

When I read CotCT "Crowen of Fangs", one of my greatsest disapointments was to see there wasn't any written section describing the option of storming citadel Volshinek and recapturing it from the hands of ileoses' servents. instead, we only get two really long and battle focused Dungeon crawls... and I think it's a real shame there are no massive battles.
so anyone has any idea on how do I run such a huge battle? some advice about the citadel? something at all?

Wait... are you asking for information or opinions?

We don't have enough room in those super short blurbs to say much of anything about the connections between adventures, and since you're only seeing the first half of them up so far, remember that you're only getting the first half of the story as well. In addition, we usually have to write those blurbs within hours or even minutes of concepting the basic adventure, at which point we DON'T have much more to say since we'd rather err on the side of being vague than giving out too much information that's subject to change.

We'll have more to say about Legacy of Fire in about a month or two, when we actually start working on it. There'll be posts in the blog and all sorts of spoilers for those who know where to look (such as the weekly chat every Tuesday). And we'll have a proper, for real campaign summary in Pathfinder #19 that I'm also thinking of posting online.

But we're just starting Second Darkness, and that means the time is not yet right to spend all that energy on Legacy of Fire. Have patience. We'll get there eventually! :)

Well, I must say I feel better now...

BTW, keep up with the SDAP, as far as now it looks great!

I don't know if a reward is due in such a case, since aas PC's, there is no reason whatsoever to belive there is going to be a plague... there is no reason they should be aware of...

Oh. In this situation, it's government inspection, to check for smuggling/tax evasion/terrorists/etc.

maybe they are afraid that there is a hidden device in the magzines, designed to call an astroid down to reign destraction on amrica and bring a new age of darkness under the iron rule of the Dark Elves :)

You didn't get an email? I certainly did - that's how I knew about the customs issue, in fact. (Haven't checked out the thread.) Are you sure you didn't delete it accidentally, or have it wind up in a spam folder or something?

If not, them I'm sure it's a glitch of some kind. Paizo definitely made an effort to keep us in the loop.

I didn't get the email, and I know that because I checked my accont every five minutes in the last month... but it's a relief to know that there was a glitch, my trust in paizo is restored!

just one thing... what's a custom? I'm not a native english speaker, so I don't know...

But whey wasn't I notified? whey didn't I at least recive the PDF to cover up for the delay? I think this is the first time the wonderfull folks at Paizo ever disappointed me with bad castumer service :(

My party, as soon as they saw the sick girl, started running around telling everyone and anyone that a plague was coming. And the wizard has pretty much assumed, correctly, where the plague originated, because he was there to see the trebuchet do its job. Wierd coincedence.

I'm trying to decide what the likely outcome of this is going to be. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone. The priests of every religion, the elven embassy, the Guard and the Scarzni. Probably Orisini too, in the very near future.

How would you, as a person, react to a bunch of people runing around screaming "there is going to be a plague and we know, because we saw a sick girl!"? I,for example, woild have called the guys with the white suits.

I don't think anybody should take the PC's warning too sireaously, not even their friends. however, when plague does eruepts, peaople will demand some answers from the PC's- how have they known? how could it be stoped? who are they, anyway? and there might even be a lynch at them.

I know "Cildren of the void" should arrive to Paizo's werehouse in the next few days, but about a month ago I got an email saying I'll get the PDF in a week (I'm subscribed). Simple math will tell you that more than a week has past since, and Iv'e got nothing. not even an email confiming me that there has been a delay but I'll still get my product. so what's up? when will I get it? what about the PDF?
thaks,
Etay Livne.

Ha, now that the update came I think I might buy it just for the cover art...

I don't think we're in a position yet to declare that officially, although I believe we have an internal answer to that. I think.

My, but isn't it fun to read something like this right now...

One thought, though: if most Pathfinder adventure paths finish with characters in the 14th-16th level range, perhaps any 15th+ level adventures, like this one, should have a couple of sidebars like "Running this Adventure for Characters That Have Just Completed Rise of the Runelords" or "Running this Adventure for Characters That Have Just Completed Curse of the Crimson Throne" in order to provide a good tie-in for DMs to keep running the same group just one more time.

Nah, I can hardly agree. I think that after compleating an archplot of a scale such as shown in the APs, you should give your charcters a rest, perhaps even ran an edventure in a diffrent system.

the discription seems more befeating for a Dungeon Crawl, not an events based module. so how exactly is it going to work? (do the PC's protact a city nearby the mountain or something?)
and also: Yay, another module!

Yeah, but Gurps is a hundred times more complicated than D&D, not mentionung 4e, so it justifies a "dummie" book.

The throne room is listed as EL 6. This includes the King of Spiders as well as the knivsies games and whatever else you do in that room to successfully acquire what you need.

OK, Thanks!

I think it's actually a good thing you missed an award or two... becuse if you wouldn't have lost them, than keeping the high standrad nexyt year will be even tougher... but you are up to it of course.
