Hi, sorry for having disappeared, but I've been quite busy these days and forgot about the Zealot! :) Thanks for having taken the project forward in my absence anyway.

Just to focus on the "feeling" i desired for this characther, I'll post some PMs I've exchanged with Kyras Auskas on the concept.

Quote:

Hi, thanks for the interest.

I was reading some old manuals, and trampled in a concept that may be usefulf: Champion of Gwynharwyf, p. 56 of ths book of exalted deeds.

This is basically a barbarian prestige class with some paladin abilities.
The rage progresses as a 3.5 barbarian, and damage reduction do so too, it gains energy resistance (we could drop it), smite evil and spells as a Paladin. It keeps the barbarian HD.
As I guess it was playtested, we could keep this track instead of mixing too much different abilities (as an example: the strenght bonus applies only against the smite target?).

About the concept: the guy has a fatalistic view, much in a classical (Homeric like) view. There's destiny, there's Hubrys and Nemesis, but there's also a roman-like cult of the honor of the ancestors, as he has been raised in his mothers religion (a Bedine, a beduine like culture of Anauroch desert).
His divine abilities come as ward on him by his ancestors, while rage and the like are more like an individual sentiment much like a classical hero's Mania.

I'd like to limit the use of rage, and strip the player of its activation: to me it should be more like an uncontrollabe reaction to a frustrating event (damage taken, a fallen comrade, testimony of a very evil act): again an hubrys against the fate that risks to activate a nemesis.

Lay on hands could be dropped for damage reduction, after all.

What do you think?

The name could be something like Destined Champion, or maybe Ancient's Vindicator.

Let me know what you think about it!

Paladino-Barbaro

oh did you find this in terms of balance also how much do you mind we change this up most the time we combine the ability in to new ones for flavor and such, rather then just add them up in to each other.

I tryed to exchange abilities of comparable levels. Other than that, I used mercies to limit the number of rage powers.

I feel that lay on hands such rapresent some sort of vengeful resolve to stand up and keep fighting: it makes sense to use it as an "heal self" ability.
Other than that, I haven't tryed it yet, so feel free to change it to fit power balance. It looks a bit over powered to me as it is now.
Just noticed that the level skills should be 2 instead of 4.

Thanks! I've added a draft!

As suggested, I post here a draft idea for a Paladin/Barbarian archetype for a charachter I'm currently playing.

The charachter is named Faraji by humans (and is the name he uses most) or Vidul by orcs, and is actually an half-orc for a Forgotten realm setting.
As you may imagine, he'se the typical son of a marauding orc chief who kept him as a prize and an insult for its former human enemies, until annoyed he sold the boy as a slave. The guy was eventually freed by some elves while on board of a shipf of is latter owner and, given the lack of alternatives, begun to work for an elven mage in an under-cover role until ordered to relieve two helfs captured by the organization were he was acting as a mole. Currently is moving with them among the realms, investigating the classical mysterious magic book.

He's full of grief, as has always been considered nothing more than muscles by its owners (and the elves seems to value him because of his orchis nature, as was spying on an half-orc illegal organization), so is quite divided between his human values (learned through her still enslaved mother) and an orchish attitude towards violence.

Here's the stats progression:

Sorry for the stupid question, but can anyone post a guide for creating a multiclass archetype? It seems I can't find it,, but maybe is because I'm lurking with a mobile.

Thanks!

PS: I'd like to build a paladin/barbarian.

Thanks for the replies. Jeraa, I agree with you when you say that PF simplified this rule a bit too much. I must admit that, paired with a very interesting revival of the base classes, PF is beginning to show some limits in its design. Nothing too bad anyway.
Another limit springs to mind, linked to this situation.
The fact that the rogue was trying to lissen (an active action, so a move action) in an envronment that didn't grant him concealment, meant that both the PC and NPC should have seen him as automatically as he could listen to the conversation.
A bit odd, honestly. Admitting that I got the rule right.

Hi everyone,

yesterday in my group the rogue tryed to hear a whispered conversation my characther was having with an NPC.
The conversation happened in a square, in a crowd of moving persons. The rogue was at about 50 feet.

As the rules are written, the DC for such a check would be 15, + 5 (distance), + 2 (crowd). In fact, is an automatic success for a typical 5th level rogue: 5 ranks, +3 (class skill), +2 (elf), +2 (feat).

Did we get this right? It looks very strange than anyone can automatically hear a whispered conversation so easily. The typical 1st level characther would easily hear anyone near him by taking 10.

How do you handle these situations?
