About Long-Shou

Long Shou is a merchant, tai chi master and feng shui practitioner from Tian Xia. He has spent over ten years peddling his wares: books and scrolls regarding acupuncture pressure points, Feng Shui, and other esoteric tidbits. He only choose books he liked to read. As a result, he was not very successful, but he was dedicated and thrifty. Amazingly, he had tidied away a small fortune, enough to build a house in his homeland. His only wish was to grow a garden of medicinal herbs and house his aging parents.

He was on his journey home, he thought for the last time. Yet disaster struck, as a large band of gnolls overtook his entire caravan, all Tien merchants. Everything the gnolls deemed worthless went up in flame, including thousands of his precious books. Everything else, including people, were taken. Many of the merchants Long Shou had known for years. Some were family. But when the gnoll slavers were trapped by a sandstorm for weeks, the slaves quickly became food. The youngest and the prettiest were killed first. In the end, when Long Shou was the only one left alive, he was thin enough from starvation to slip his bonds. Long years of meditation, fasting, and determination kept him alive long enough to be picked up by another caravan.

Back in Katapesh and recovered in body from his experience, he swore revenge upon the hyena demon men upon his ancestors. They smiled upon him by leading him to Garavel and his mission.

Long Shou is a middle aged man of very slight build. He has long black hair that he braids in the back, and a wispy beard. He is rarely seen without his strangely shaped hat, his pipe, and a cup of tea. Otherwise he wears loose dark blue robes with wide sleeves and many pockets, and carries a sort of backpack bag. He is strictly vegetarian, loathes unnecessary killing, and wakes up at dawn to do tai chi.
