Great move!
Do we assume the Harrow Deck remains in the current subscriptions though? I notic it's still there in the online shop?
Thanks,
Lewis.

We'll have to see when the rules come out if it's too much too soon, but considering what's been revealed so far in D&DXP I doubt it.
It might not be, but Lewy (the person I was responding to) thought so.
It might not be overcompensating Moonlion, and certainly it's a worthy goal.. making them more fun. You did note that I couldn't get anybody to actually play one?
But I would like see it in practice and not just in theory. I must be strange, I love playing low level Wizards, just because I do have to make the choices of when to cast, I do have to interact with more than spells and it forces me to use my brain in encounters of all types. I may just be wierd but give me that low level wizard. The impression (and admittedly it is just that) I get is that I can keep casting. It just seems it'll be less of a challenge on the old grey matter.
That's more like it!
Now if we consider the advice for 7E above and project out, considering there will be less time between editions, and I've plotted these from previous dates, 5th will be 2013, 6th will be early 2015 and I figure that 7th will be August 14th 2015. So that's just about 7 years and 5 months before we get the game we all want forced upon us!
Oh dear, there goes my amusing thread......

D&D, to me, is about the potential to improve through perseverance and determination. 4th edition characters, on the other hand, enter the game as heroes with abilities that far outstrip those of common men. Rather than rising to the rank of hero through game play, 4th edition characters operate under the assumption that they are "the best at what they do" and that they are pre-ordained to change the world. For me, games like Feng Shui are better for this type of game-play.
3] The DDI and GSL, and the poor treatment of 3rd party publishers by WotC, have all undermined much of my goodwill towards WotC. I used to enjoy going to the Wizards' site for errata, free materials and use of their forums. I also used to...
These two hit home for me.
Starting weak and normal leads to really good campaigns. I want wizards that are weak and can't cast much and become powerful, not cannons that "aren't boring because they don't run out of spells". Sorry, choosing when to use your limited capacity really adds to play. Same obviously for other classes etc. We have enough problems teaching powergamers that they ruin roleplaying experiences already without encouraging it in everyone.
The goodwill comment also. They have tried to trample everyone, Dragon and Dungeon for example, and done this carelessly. That's as much my reason for my allegiance to Paizo as is the fact that the latter have demonstrated they care (and released some cracking products!)
Just thought I'd get in with the hate it, won't change, comment first.
Five years I give it to become reality. That's 2013 for it to be announced, you watch!
For me, it's not about this or that minor rule change. I could live with any of those. It's the throwing away of everything that's come before.

1. No plans at all, actually would rather not at the moment, so the earliest would be 2010. The other group I game with, the DM has stated that he has enough material to game with at 3.5 till old age so he has no intention either.
2. It would make my mind up to convert in the 2010 time frame. I'd still buy and stockpile whilst I used up my 3.5 backlog. I'll be running the 1st two AP's at least through 2009.
3. I'd not convert whilst you guys are in business and probably never would as I have enough to run till I die (even if I live a long time - which is unlikely!)

Yes, a lot of the design ideas are intended to bring in younger folks; but a lot of the emphasis is also on things that help out us older (umm, less-young?) people who have busy lives.
I know that when I was in high school and college, I had tons of free time to devote to gaming. I could afford to play a game that required a lot of work; and in my experience, a lot of people actually preferred their games that way - people who want the buy-in to their activity to be high, because that lets them be the "experts" over all the newbies. As role-playing games got more complex in the 80s and 90s, they really seemed to me to be marketing themselves to those sorts of people.
These days, I don't have anything remotely like the same kind of free time, and in my opinion, the design changes intended to make the game easier to run are aimed squarely at folks like me, with full-time jobs, families, and other responsibilities that leave us with relatively minimal free time. That's an interesting serious point. I'm in a similiar position with free time, and I admit that is one of the attarctive elements about 4th edition for me. I'm in a similar position and the whole thing puts me off totally! Simpler? What sort of idiots do they think we are? I gave up basic D&D years back - before a red box! I'm not going back.
Well put. I guess there's lots of us stockpiling to last this one out. Great input re. keeping the 3.5 rules available.
In a similar vein, I've got almost every FR supplement to date. That'll keep me going in FR and I'll use PAizo things as long as I can but I'm pretty much decided now that I won't even look at the 4th Ed. stuff. Why should I? I've got piles of 3rd Ed. stuff I've not read yet. Seems a shame though that they've even convinced me to drop out of FR product buying, they had a hardened fan there which they've lost. Doesn't say much for their marketing.

When I play I use Unseen Servant lots, it's great for ranged door opening and other mundane uses that keep you clear of danger. As for the xp loss for item creation, my players have experimented and for the monor xp loss find it very useful, a few hundred xp for basic wans etc. makes a very worthwhile swap. So much so I've been looking at how to restrict it further! You should try it instead of just dreaming it's bad.
Please add me to this list of people affected.

In any event, the real word on gnolls in Golarion will be appearing soon in the Classic Monsters Revisited book we'll be releasing in a few months.
Oh, OK then I relent, I'll buy everything Pathfinder like I was going to originally! ;)

That's it, not buying any more Paizo products! ;) Be glad they didn't go with their original idea - poodle gnolls. LOL! Come on - bite me!

Now that's definitely true. Don't know where you found them Lisa but hang onto them!

Like the Hutaaken comment, hadn't occurred to me (but took me back to a great campaign I once ran, thanks!)

Sometimes get even more that basic price, I guess that's because Paizo things are hard to get in the UK. Gives me a festive smile!
Merry Christmas everyone!
If you're taking votes I too don't want the cards. Tried to use some of the other sets and basically got so little response from my players I gave up.
Including them will fairly certainly get me screwed on import duty here in the UK at some point. However a subscription is interesting because PDF's of map products could be really useful. Im assuming they'll be on sale seperately? What would comparative pricing be? Just trying to do some basic mathematics as my options are:
1. Subscribe, get free PDF and get screwed on import duty
2. Carry on as now, purchasing them as now and buy the PDF's seperately.
I should add for those who want more cards, if I do subscribe, the cards will be on Ebay within days of getting here, so that'll offset a couple of quid.
Any input?
Thanks,
Lewis.
Personally I'm totally unexcited by 4.0. Everything I've read on EN World etc just seems uninteresting. So I'd rather stick with 3.5. I'll almost certainly follow Paizo and I'll buy a PHB to have a look for myself.
I guess my real problem with a lot of the comments on here though is the suggestion that the rules need a new version because they've got problems. Whilst this is arguably true, what on Earth makes people think they'll get it right this time? It seems pretty well agreed they didn't with 2nd Ed. and they certainly needed to change 3.0 to give 3.5. It is almost 100% certain that 4.0 will be just as flawed, they'll just be different flaws. It might be better, it'll be very different and it'll certainly be unbalanced.
I'd prefer 3.5 too!
However, the Paizo releases so far have been so good I've decided that I'll only look at going v4 if Paizo go there. So you guys are responsible for me shelling out for 4th Ed or not. Please decide wisely for me! :)
You're lucky! I still have not got the last 2 Dragons or Dungeons!
Steve Burnage wrote: Both Dungeon #150 and Dragon #359 still haven't arrived. I live in U.K. Can I still expect them or has something gone wrong? The Place for Games say they haven`t got them and there has been some sort of mix-up. I`ve been a subscriber since the 80`s. What a way to finish these 2 great publications. Shops over here have them. I`ve paid for them. Anyone in the UK who subscribe got them? I'm in the UK and have not seen Dungeon 149 or 150, also Dragon 358/359. I'll live without the Dragon's but have ordered the Dungeons again (direct from Paizo this time). Don't really trust TPFG at this point. If they ever turn up I'll Ebay the spares but having a complete collection of Dungeon minus these, I decided not to take the risk.
and I've just been and signed up for a Pathfinder subscription!
Thanks again,
Lewis.
Hi,
Thanks for the answer, which is fair comment, and that's really reasonable for shipping, thanks!
Oh and thanks generally, the fact that you're putting such effort into answering everyone's questions both proves you do care about your customers, keeping us loyal, and shows the gulf with WOTC in respect of the difference in the companys' attitudes.
Cheers,
Lewis.
Hi,
This sucks, but I can't do anything about it, so a question if I may:
You state in teh FAQ's that European subscribers will get a cheque from TPFG, does that mean we can't switch to Pathfinder instead? WIll there be no European distributor/subscription fulfilment? Does that mean we'll be treated to a horrendous postage charge from the US?
Thanks,
Lewis.
