Embarrassingly, I've got no ranks in spellcraft to interpret the aura.

Since spellcraft is the new concentration, this may prove to be painful to Al. For my part, Leaf has no perception skill points! Oops.

'Yes Alderthane, I appear to be stuck in three dimensions. It is making me feel a little unbalanced. Still, I believe worse is yet to come so I will not complain.'
Leaf hustles up the passageway with 'cat' - attempting to see if proximity to 'cat' tail causes any of the tail hair to stand on end

'If any of the rest of you attempt to displace, please let me know if you are successful'

'I will move to a position that does not crowd you'
Leaf's voice sounds strangely proud, like he has just figured something out
'So, cats can talk. I suspected as much!'
full of joy, Leaf attempts to teleport about the room

'Well, off we go then!'
Leaf flies along with the party

"'A primaeval forest on the ethereal plane!'I wonder about the endless variety of the multiverse. Should it make me cling more strongly to what I have been taught, to distrust it, or to find some compromise?"

'Friends, the City limitations do not function here. Perhaps this is a reasonable variation in operating parameters, but it is a new experience for me. Do any of you have knowledge of what part of the multiverse or what power reigns here?'

Leaf flies up into the tunnel

"I have rope....And Leaf,perhaps it would be better not to tell people when one of us is invisible."

'But if I do not tell people then they will not know...oh I believe I understand. Although Luff's natural state is invisible, there are times when it is advantageous for his presence not to be acknowledged? Would it be too much to ask if there are rules regarding such conduct or is this something one must make up as one goes along?'

Leaf waits patiently for Arathalia to produce the rope before teleporting with it up to the top of the cliff. He searches for some remnant of the gate mounting and, 'mage hand's' one end of the rope through before using the spell to bring both ends of the rope together. Once together he uses glue and then mage hand's the rope down to Arathalia. As he works, a musical 'tinkle' emanates from Leaf - evoking the thought of happy craftsmen working contendtedly.

whew! glad these cantrips can be cast over and over again!

'Rope and grapple must be provided.'

'Pleased to meet you Oddskeeper. This is Arathalia. Jack Ketch is currently trying to climb the cliff, the pixe Luff is invisible, and Zissaren is in the river. We are bonded together by an informal agreement, although I have sworn oaths to stand by them all.'

Leaf fires a light beam towards the sewer entrance for emphasis
'I am in no hurry to move towards the sewer. It is likely the earth will open, or Zissaren will engage a giant sea creature before we realize this opening will not do. Still, if Jack is unable to ascend, I could teleport up a rope and grappling iron...'

'No, but after meeting tall dark and powerful in the bar, I have decided to be more trusting. No doubt it will end poorly for us all.'

Oblivious to the crowd and the plight of his new friends, Leaf concentrates on the newcomer
'No, no it is an important question to me. I have no answer yet. Fortunately, the disconnect has been less than lethal. Actually, I find I hardly miss the place, but it is all I know. All I knew anyway.'

rotating as if to show what has influenced his life recently, Leaf notices where a friend with initiative might help his new friends
'Please assist if you are able. We seek to breach the sewer system and rescue spaw- children from the city. And no more 'Archon'-ing me, it will be forever before I overcome that brainwashing! Call me Leaf'

Leaf then begins casting spells
aid all round starting with lizard-lips, then anyone leaf can see

Speak Celestial?

at the sound of the voice calling 'Archon', Leaf launches into a staccato chant
'Whoa! Now that takes me back to the beach! What do you need, stranger?'
Leaf whisks closer to the human:
'Stranger?'

"Well, the lights and the sigil I carved should help. Likely get us ambushed too, but I suppose that is going to happen when you are a paragon of good."

"Mayhaps you're right," the old man says to the floating light, "but perhaps this is a sewer, with some means of keepin' it clean - I once visited a city tha' kept its sewers clean by the use o' gelatinous cubes. Pristine they where!"

"Oh good, I was feeling myself paralyzed with indecision."

After some time, the pixie returns and sets down on the ground near the grating.

"It would seem that the nearest entrance to the sewers large enough for us all is to the south of the docks... shall we go?"

"Friends, this is not a sewer" Leaf animatedly explains his discovery and his conclusion

"I am concerned the sewers and the area this grate leads to are not contiguous. Perhaps we should enter this way? maybe buy a wand with a few charges of shrink person?
"I am sorry to be like this. I feel I am putting up obstacles to moving forward over and over again. This does not make me feel well as I know time is of the essence. Perhaps Luff and I could scout while the rest of you prepared to enter? If we encounter overwhelming force, Luff would likely be able to escape and bring word,given his invisibility and my...visibility."

"Well, I guess we've got the time..."
Leaf pops back into the sewer for a thorough look
takes a 20 for a grand total of 22. uses detect magic and light liberally to help his mediocre score

Leaf teleports into the sewer. After looking around, 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 he quickly carves a shallow marker in the wall. As an afterthought he places three continual flames - two in the muck of the sewer, and a third on a floating bit of detritus.
'Hope that helps' he tinkles, after popping back city-side

Aehrick is starting to take shape as a concept. Half-Celestial Human Fighter/Cleric of Calistria (or like deity).

I'd also like to work something out between Leaf and Aehrick's background (OOC knowledge as to intertwined fates or some such) if Leaf's player is amenable to such a thing. :)

Rolled stats are STR 15, DEX 12, CON 11, INT 13, WIS 16, CHA 11 unmodified by race or template.

Edit: How do folks input the nifty formatting into their character profiles? Is it a template I can find somewhere or do you do it all manually?

Leaf turns of the torches and addresses the party
'This is foolishness. Is there no order in this city, no planning, no maps of the sewer system? Something is getting out of the sewer, and taking children into it...oh forget it. I am not good at reasoning.

What if those of you with better contacts spent the hour trying to find a bigger entrance while the Lizard-Man checks the river for an outflow? If Luff cannot open this grate in a more subtle manner, I will spend the hour burning my way in and asking any civil authorities who show up to lend me a hand'

Leaf's using his lanterny light rays on the sewer grate. He thinks he would like to save the warlock bolts for long range

'I wonder what else will come out of this sewer if we destroy this grate?'
Leaf muses while firing a beam of pure light at the object in question
'I believe I can carve through this, given enough time'
although the light beams ignore all damage resistance, they may well be foiled by hardness...

Leaf buzzes hesitantly between Valentine, Jack and Arathalia before coming to rest over Arathalia's shoulder

'Farewell friend Valentine. I am in your debt should you ever desire a favour from one such as I.'

"Thank-you friend Valentine. I believe your soul was never in danger, nor your life. At least not from me. Please accept my apologies for the deception."

Zipping in closer:"You know what I am! Would you carry my purpose also?"

"I would thank you properly"

"Stranger, do you have a name?"

Leaf hovers out of the way and checks the man out as he works.

"STOP where you are!" Leaf summons his best imitation of a Trumpet Archon: "You know not what powers are ranged against thee! Flee this place and your soul may be spared. Know your life is forfeit! You will not be warned again."

Leaf rises above the table a strange swirl of multi-hued energies playing across his surface.if the tall stranger continues to advance, Leaf will attack {sure hope this isn't 'Strider'!}

Concern fills Leaf's voice:
"I can see my words have affected you strongly. Is it that having been convinced by my argument you recoil from yourselves or do you remain unconvinced and the very thought of swearing oaths make you all physically ill?"

"Yes, free beer, how hysterical. I will gladly pay if you find a way to put the beer inside me. Or the stew. The stew in me that is, not the beer in the stew..."
Leaf pulses and hovers over the center of the table.
"Oh believe me, I think I know something about the power of oaths, and their power when misused. Contracts too Jack, more so than oaths."
The pulsing stops and Leaf rises over the table:
"So do we simply take this mission as far as each of us will go? Each with loyalty only to themselves. This seems a hollow way to live. So, for my part I pledge to do my best to support each of you in the completion of this quest, wherever it may lead. I will swear to what each of you holds most sacred."

Leaf energetically organizes some cabbage into pigtails and hovers them near Luff's head.

"Perhaps Luff could pass for a child if required? Will we meet your chief tracker cat, and what could summon you from the sewer...would you not feel you were abandoning your new comrades.

I believe both you Luff and you Jack owe fealty to outside forces that make dealing with you a risk. In my short time here I have been netted thrice, captured in a jar twice. Each occasion was preceded by pronouncements of trust and loyalty on the part of one meat-sack or another.
While I am not naive enough to expect unfettered loyalty to one-another, I would require some sign of faith. Perhaps a ceremony or a mutual swearing of the traditional oaths of our peoples?"

"How have your children avoided capture? Perhaps we could use them as bait?"

Leaf gestures towards the vermin as best he can with a mage-handled piece of meat.

Leaf focuses on separating the pieces of lamb from the stew.

Arathalia looks at Leaf, amused by his antics during the night.

"You may be the most interesting creature I have ever met"

"Thank-you. I find your glow most comforting."

Leaf spends some time bathing in the steam coming off of his stew.
"I remember the taste of cabbage. Braised cabbage. Spun sugar I do not remember. While I initially thought it was a substance excreted by anxious creatures, I now understand it is a form of food favoured by the young.
Currently we believe spun sugar is bait used by something from the sewers to capture children? If the sewers are well locked, do any of you have the skill to determine if one has been opened recently?"

Leaf hovers enthusiastically.

Arathalia willing, Leaf spends the night floating in [or outside] her room. He passes the time trying to find ways to use his cantrips to glue things to the ceiling. Perhaps if he glues them first and then mage hands them to the ceiling? He fiddles about as best he can, and tries to create at least one stalagtite reaching from floor to ceiling by morning. At some point he does what he must to recover his arcane and eldritch powers.

After Yanko walks off, Leaf hums softly for a moment and recites:

These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when Kaledun's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended:
They stood, and Kaledun's foundations stay:
What Gods abandoned, these defended.
And saved the sum of things for pay.

As Leaf floats near the ceiling, he examines Yanko and what Yanko is saying, trying to unravel Yanko's position on this situation. sense motive 1d20+10=17
Floating back down to just above Yanko's head Leaf asks:
"Why you? Your motivation for this action is no greater than the attendants of the other spaw... children who have disappeared. We are told there is great danger in confronting this issuse. I feel the power behind this is an open secret. You must share your knowledge and your suspicions with us. diplomacy 1d20+10=19

"Hmmm. I too wish to be of assistance. If you wish it, I could recite the ten-thousand names of worship or the seven-hundred and seventy-seven virtues of bahomet.
However, my experiences over the last several days suggest to me this course of action would not be fruitful in the sense you are expecting.
If we could put aside our feelings on the meaninglessness of actions in this realm..." Leaf pauses expectantly, it appears this point is meaningful, but likely only to him.
"...and embrace the concept of action as virtue,..."
Leaf's final sentence fades away into a silent, internal conversation as he floats toward the ceiling.
