Purchased a few at the comic store today (couldn't wait until my case arrived) and I lucked out and got the ettin. He looks great. I have the two WotC ettins and the Paizo one is beefier!! The Paizo ettin does look similar to the first WotC ettin (inhuman faces, grey skin) but is much bigger making the WotC ettin look like the kid brother of the family. I took a pic of all three together. My other catches were the city watch and the elf wizard. They do look very good and the watch is supposed to be common. He looks fantastic!!

Erik Mona wrote: WizKids launched into this set full speed, and did in fact resculpt a couple of old Mage-Knight figures along the lines you suggest. They were already working on a generic fantasy miniature set when we started our partnership, and they wanted to salvage as much of that work as possible for the first set.
The Elf Wizard's pose is similar to the mini you posted, though I believe it is more of a resculpt using the original as reference. So the pose is similar, but our figure is not holding the same stuff, her ears are different, and there are differences in her robes as well.
The Werewolf is very very similar, though ours has a few more scraps of clothes on it. Since their werewolf honestly looked better than the one in the Bestiary, I approved this in the interest of expediency.
The Lizardfolk Champion started life as a full resculpt of the figure you posted, but was modified significantly to resemble a specific Pathfinder lizardfolk image.
The Dwarf Fighter is actually a complete coincidence. The Heroes & Monsters mini is a direct sculpt of the dwarf king from the back of the Inner Sea World Guide.
When we started this set, WizKids came to us with a list of "generic" fantasy miniatures they wanted to include in a starter set, and we matched their list with illustrations from our archive. I think there is one other figure in the set (the Human Rogue) with traceable lineage to Mage-Knight. The rest are all more or less pure Pathfinder.
For Rise of the Runelords forward, Paizo is making all decisions about which minis go in which sets, and all of them are based on official Pathfinder artwork.
Thanks for clearing that up. I figured it was something like that because first we heard Paizo was thinking about minis, then you announced it was on the way. The turnaround was super fast so some overlap is to be expected.
I have no problem with that. I am a subscriber and am eager to crack my case up in a few weeks.
Whoa, take it easy guys, I am a full supporter of this initiative by Paizo. I just hope Wizkids isn't scamming them by reusing molds without their knowledge. Here are the minis from Mage Knight that I stated looked the same:
Elf Wizard - http://trollandtoad.com/p132567.html
Werewolf - http://trollandtoad.com/p123891.html
Lizardfolk Champion - http://trollandtoad.com/p101719.html
Dwarf Fighter - http://www.trollandtoad.com/p103627.html
There may be some tweaking on the molds but they are basically the same. That was all I was saying.
Here's a bit of bad news...
I rebase Mage Knight minis on a regular basis for my D&D game and there were a few of these minis that I recognized. I don't mind this time but I hope that was just this once because this was a rush for Paizo to come soon after the Pathfinder Beginner box minis.
The Mage Knight minis are:
Lizardfolk Champion
Elf Wizard
Dwarf Fighter
Werewolf
This is based on the pics and the Mage Knight minis I own, there may be others. I don't mind myself, I just hope this isn't an ongoing policy between Paizo and WizKids. I look forward to reciving my case of minis (black dragon included) and hope the Rise of the Runelords set is just as good or better.
OK. A case is $200+. That's alot for exactly how many minis. I think a case is three bricks. Each brick is 19 packs. If each pack has 1 mini each, then that's 57 minis. Is that right? I also heard somewhere (probably the Know Direction podcast) that the small minis will be paired (two in one booster). Is this right? I think 57+ minis for $230 is a bit much (about $4/mini; doesn't sound so bad said like that.) That means for the Heroes and Monsters set, which contains 40 minis, one case should be enough to get the set.
I am supporting this with a subscription, mostly because I want to support Paizo and I love minis. I hope this works out but changes a bit as the market gives feedback to Paizo and Wizkids. I just don't like the idea of each booster only having one mini.
Good luck, Paizo, we're all rooting for you!!!

Perram and I talk to Erik Mona about Monte Cook, Pathfinder Battles, and the Pathfinder Beginner Box. All that, plus News, What We're Reading, and Upcoming Releases:
What's the ETA for the links for this podcast?
Is there a set of the Invisibility Stand-Up figures that can be ordered? I don't play 4e and have little interest in all the markers but I like the idea if the invisible stand up.

Is this still to be released? What's going on with this?
Is Paizo not carrying the Swords and Wizardry version in hardcover mode? I was hoping to get it from Frog God but they closed the preorder before I was ready. I'll get the Pathfinder version if I have to, but would prefer the 0E version as that's what I play.

Play a passive character, or a very anti-social one so you have little input. Don't play anything with high knowledge skills or a character that enjoys figuring things out.
Best suggestion is to tell the DM and see if he has something else up his sleeve. And be specific about what happens in the AP so that if he wants to custom it, he'll know just how much to change. If it turns out he has to change to much, it would definately be better to play another AP. If the DM can't or won't change the AP, maybe you could co-DM?
I just don't see you having that much fun knowing what's going to happen and having to shut up about it. You may make decisions that are better for your PC, that your subconscience makes automatically. You know what's going to occur, you can't undo that.
As a subscriber, I used to receive the player's guide for each adventure path free. I can't remember when that stopped but that's too bad. I would like this in print to just hand out at the table during PC generation.

The original D&D module codes meant nothing as far as I know but definately helped me keep track of them. Most of the reasons given in the second post up there apply to the D&D codes as well.
For ease of aquiring and when a set of modules do go together, I would recommend some type of system be implemented. Even the Goodman Games model of straight numbering is preferable over nothing.
I will admit the the D for dungeon, J for journey code system didn't suit me. However, if I have J1 and J2 and see J4 in the game store one Saturday and buy it, I now know I am missing J3 and will look around for it before it becomes hard to find.
Just my 2 cps.
I noticed with the release of Crypt of the Ever Flame that the module had no letter/number code. I just got Masks of the Living God yesterday and it is also missing a code even though it is the sequel to Crypt. Looking back a few modules: Carrion Hill also has no code. Is this being done away with? I really liked the code for a bunch of reasons but mostly so I would know if some had slipped past me. Although the code for Paizo modules really only distinguished what type of module it was (D modules were dungeons, W was wilderness, etc.) I would like to have sets of modules, at least, have codes that at a glance would mean they flow together.

I have a question about these. I own a few of these and use them very little since I have a blank chessex mat. I wanted to try this one, the woodlands, but I like to map stuff on a sheet of graph paper first. Is there a sheet sized download of these anywhere that I can print and write on?
Just saw this and was wondering, like real gamers, Where can I get a copy of the module from the movie?
Has this started shipping yet? I'm still waiting...
I have got to say, a slotted base sounds better. And as far as which to make, I have to agree that I would rather see minis that are new monsters from the modules or adventure path. Maybe some sets of monsters from each module would be cool as well. Kind of like the Compleat Encounters but more expensive with more minis.
I usually support Paizo with many of their products but I don't think I can get behind these. Why? Well, I got the GameMastery Compleat Encounters and I thought they were ok as far as the actual senerio went, the maps we just 'blah' I don't hate them but they don't spark me. Finally, the minis were ok, but the bases were so oversized...it was kind of irritating.
Now, that was older stuff and they may have learned something from the GameMastery Compleat Encounters line. But from what I've read, the scale is 28 mm. Most of the minis out now (D&D minis) are 25 mm. And the prices are quite high. Valerous is $7.95, most Reaper PC minis are about $5.
I just have my doubts so far, I may be swayed though...
I would like to say: Please DO NOT cancel my subscription. I think Pathfinder is great and I really like the GameMastery Modules as well. Keep up the good work in the last days of 3.5e.
Is there no chance that a 3rd party publisher would pick up on this and make something close to official?
Wow, these are really good. I've never really browsed these forums before. Think I'll have to start and maybe add my 2 cp.
I brought it thinking it was Compleat Encounters: Dark Elf Sanctum. Boy was I confused! Anyway, it is alright, I read through it somewhat and find it playable. I now have to run out and get the Dark Elf Sanctum, too.
