Liberty's Edge

I'm about to start book 3 with my group and am wondering what people have been using for music. I personally have been using Glitch Mob, the electronica has been a great change of pace from the classical, film score, and video game music I have used in Council of Thieves, Kingmaker, Runelords, and as a player in Carrion Crown.

Liberty's Edge

Did not receive the Grindylow promo card with order. They usually come in a white ups envelope right?

Liberty's Edge

I read in the Sticky that Munchkin seems to be what is slowing the process down. I noticed that a few others had slipped through cracks as well. I know you guys are working hard and I'd like a confirmation that my order will be shipped this week.

Thanks

Good to see the Goblin Mystic back in the fold. Is the huge white dragon next?

Male Human Oracle 20/ AC60,FF10,T60/ HP (9001/9000) /Init +60/Perception -1/Fort +30, Ref+30, Will +30

Here is our discussion thread.

Feel free to talk here about how awesome that crit was, or publicly skewer me for failing to be prompt with my posting.

We will also use this to nail down our game specifics, discuss how to play, and the importance of Flex Time.

Starting Officially Monday Feb 18th for members of the Louisville D&D group. We may start earlier if ball is sufficiently rolled.

This will be the first play-by-post for most if not all of you. So the rules and the ebb and the flow will be especially malleable to start.

More details coming, and the full player's guide is coming this week.

Great work on the set. I picked up a pack at my FLGS today while I wait on my case. My favorite bit about this set is probably the elementals. I got a medium fire in my pack and I love it. I can't wait to get my hands on the golems.

Time to speculate on the next set? Huge White Dragon, Gargantuan Green Dragon, Animal Companions, mounts, Heroes & Monsters 2, maybe Kingmaker?

I probably won't be running Shattered Star soon, but I'll be using these minis. I see a lot of things I'll use here. Awesome stuff.

Liberty's Edge

Day after Thanksgiving made sense but I'm curious as to why Friday log posts have stopped.

Liberty's Edge

The gug is one of the miniatures I want to write encounters for. Nightgaunt will have some utility I think.

I almost laid down coin on the secondary market to start a collection of elementals. Glad I waited. I am a very pleased Pathfinder Battles customer.

My guess is the gargantuan monster is some sort of Tyrannosaurus.

Liberty's Edge

That column is awesome. I was considering dropping my sub after RotRL but the minis so far and the assumed smaller cost will be enough to keep me in the ranks.

(I'm not complaining, I am seriously excited about my Runelords set. I just also like to put extra money on my car payments.)

Liberty's Edge

And one of my best friends makes the blog. Awesome.

Liberty's Edge

I'm going to have so many goblins.

I've searched and read through as many threads on the subject as I could but I didn't see a whole lot in the reporting of results or more than just a few sentences.

So I'm kind of at a loss for the whole "7th" adventure. In that I don't know what else (besides the main villain, and a couple other ideas) to have the PCs overcome, but first here is what I am thinking.

-Civil War erupts between Issia and Rostland, the player kingdom could be drawn in here.

-At the height of the civil war Choral the Conqueror returns, angry at the shattered kingdom. Probably also mad at Surtova for its presumption of the throne. Making it clear in the PCs eyes that Choral sees them as an extension of Rostland, and must be subjugated. (This may be an opportunity to play up intrigue or a multi-sided war, especially if Choral brings things from Iobaria.)

-So yeah a little bit of mass combat, using some of the extra armies detailed at the end of 6. (Choral could very well march to defeat Surtova at Port Ice before turning his gaze south)

-I just don't feel like I have enough to take the players from 17-20 for an encounter with Choral. My thought is that the rest of his house could return as high level casters with draconic heritage.

-I know Choral originally used two red dragons to conquer the region, but I feel that slaying his lieutenants may cheapen any surprise at fighting Choral. (I was thinking he would appear in human form as he talked to the PCs before erupting.)

So what else do I put in between? I'm not really looking to plan everything out, but I don't think going completely off the cuff would do justice as a capstone to my 15 month campaign.

Liberty's Edge

Both of these are marvelous. Can't wait to see them in person.

A short retrospective on how looking for Pathfinder at my FLGS has evolved. (Comic Book World in Louisville)

August 2009, the Core Rulebook was available and on display along a wall with "Other RPGs" like exalted or the Serenity RPG. This area has alphabetic filing by publisher.

A year later, around the release of the APG its granted its own section on the store floor. The display shelf was labeled Pathfinder, close to the wall and behind several back and front displays for 4th ed D&D. This shelf would would always have the hard covers in stock and a couple recent modules or AP volumes.

Last month, the store owner told me that Pathfinder outsold D&D 2 to 1 despite them carrying every hardcover for 4th ed spread amongst several displays.

Today I walk in, the Pathfinder section has been moved to the front of the gaming section and clearly visible from anywhere in the store.

After reaching a high level of annoyance with how late Amazon was shipping Pathfinder products I have canceled my preorders of the Inner Sea World Guide and Ultimate Magic and instead purchased them here, with a subscription to the Game line.

It's a really good feeling to know I will get the books as soon as possible. It just sucks that I am going to pay a little more for it. (Especially with my Amazon Prime shipping)

Entire party was 4th Level.

Human Factotem (Dungeonscape)
Dwarf Cleric
Gnome Oracle
Elf Magus
+1 Elven Thin Blade (RoW)
Arcane Weapon bonus: Keen

A Crit build

Series of Summaries of Battles/Situations with Analysis of Magus (give us a feel how the Magus contributed and how she compared to and interacted with the others)

Combat began by the main party opening a door to a large stable and seeing the Gnome and Magus cornered by some mooks with longspears, and two more heavily armored fighters. In front of the Wu Jen, Factotem, and Cleric was a Druid who had once been an ally.

S= Tough Samurai Flavored Knights

Being introduced in the middle perceived of combat I asked the GM if I could have already casted Shield. He granted the request. All characters rolled low on the initiative, and the enemies came over to assist the Druid and block the door. The Oracle engaged the Samurai while I dropped a Flaming Sphere to keep us from being surrounded. The Flaming Sphere was effective at hindering and killing a few of the mooks over the next few rounds. Meanwhile, I engaged the Samurai and failed to roll above a 7. The rest of the party was fairing much worse. The Wu Jen had been grabbed by the Druid's companion Monitor Lizard and was out of spells. The Factotem was burning through Inspiration points trying to fight off the equal level Druid. The Cleric was doing his best to keep the other two healty and fight off the other Samurai who joined the fray. My Magus attempted to cast shocking grasp but failed to cast defensively. After a few rounds the Oracle was dropped. I used a series of 5ft steps to position my Magus to take out the remaining mooks with Longspears and to be closer to the unconscious Oracle. I spent a full round applying a potion to the Gnome Oracle. At this point I was away from the stable walls and was no longer threatened by long spears, also the rolls were better. I cast Shocking Grasp and delivered it, critting the Samurai in the process for 44 total damage. (I elected to do this over two rounds instead of taking the penalty, I was having issues hitting him in the first place). Once the Gnome returned to the fight we were then flanking with the last Samurai on that side. Meanwhile..

The other side hadn't been doing so great, the Cleric was siphoning off damage from the other PCs but wasn't able to free the Wu Jen from the Grab of the Lizard. The Wu Jen finally was able to kill the companion with her dagger and 1hp to spare. The Factotem burned through all Inspiration points and was only fighting defensively. Once the Oracle took out the last Samurai on the south side of the fight, the Druid elected to flee the combat versus being surrounded in a doorway. The last samurai (chuckle) also tried this but was grappled by the Aristocrat...I mean Factotem. At that point the fight was effectively over.

Magus Summary:

Shield casted
Flaming Sphere to keep from being surrounded. (Also killed two mooks)
Lots of low rolls, and a failed casting of Shocking Grasp
*Switched d20*
Crit a mook
Crit a Samurai while delivering Shocking Grasp

Final Analysis, Thoughts, and Suggestions (any words of wisdom you learned from this scenario)

Being Surrounded was pretty terrifying, Shield boosted the AC to 23 (Was a blessing). I wanted the build to be very effective at hitting, which it is, but I don't get the chance to hit things with spells very often. The negatives to attack for something I can rarely do is disheartening. (I would have loved to been casting annoying 0th level spells at the mooks while fighting the Samurai, but as it was I wasn't hitting him) But I had a lot of fun. Critting while delivering Shocking Grasp was particularly exciting.
