I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for standard roleplaying. I bought the grell mini because it is a rather unique creature that is difficult (if not impossible) to represent with anything other than a specific miniature. I was disappointed with the quality of this mini. The color scheme is drab, the pose is awkward and the entire thing is uninspired and cheesy. The scale seems a little off to me (or I've just been imagining them as bulkier than the designers intended). It didn't seem to me that this creature, as portrayed in the mini, could lift a character off the ground let alone engage several at once. Rather than ferocious, the creature seems comical. This mini comes off as almost two dimensional. The tentacles are so fragile as to demand significant care. This thing is not at all intimidating or awe-inspiring as it should be. Rather than strike fear into players, it more accurately soothes them with its feeble display and wimpy presentation. For such a big brain, more of it could have been invested in the design and rendering of this cool monster. Instead this mini seems to indicate the barest minimum of forethought or creative effort on the part of its designers. The only reason I didn't give it the lowest possible rating is because, despite its many flaws, it is still useful in game play. A bad representation is better than no representation at all (but just barely in this case).
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This was one of the first minis I ever bought as a single and I was so impressed that my buying habits have never been the same! This is a great piece - perfectly scaled and well designed. The coloring is eye-pleasing and the unique pose demands attention. The detailed equipment and ferocious expression bring an unrivaled realism and excitement to the table. The quality of work can not be overstated. This is a great piece!
I do not collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. The bullywug thug, besides having a name that rolls off the tongue nicely, is one of the best common figures ever. It is a great value and well worth the small investment. It is sturdy and well-constructed. It is well wrought with fascinating detail and an eye-pleasing color scheme (that though neutral, demands attention). The armor, the creature's fierce expression and solid pose bring a surprising amount of interest to the table. It has great versatility and promises to see plenty of game time. Plus, you can buy half a dozen or more without feeling guilty. It's a great piece and one that deserves welcome in everyone's collection.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. My complaint with this piece has also been expressed (by me) about other pieces - I don't like the subject matter. The pose, the detail, the coloring, the scale - all of it is quality work. It's just not something that has anything other than the tiniest niche to fill (one that is pretty much nonexistent in my campaign world). It is not very useful since it can not be "adapted" easily to represent something other than exactly what it is. Again, I'd rather see the manufacter focus on figures that satisfy a broader range of playability.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This is an interesting piece, maybe not one I'd normally choose to buy but satisfying nonetheless. The concept is a cool one and it definitely brings intimidation to the table. My complaint is that it is not nearly as cleanly detailed in real life as shown here on the website. The paint job is not nearly so precise and the color scheme not nearly as appealing. Still, this piece is useful in play and warrants the proper amount of shock & awe. It gets a solid "good" rating from me.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This piece is awesome! Its sheer size is intimidating enough but the cool weapon, fierce pose, and striking detail are overwhelming. The coloring is perfect. As a side note, I appreciated the extra packaging around the polearm to protect it during shipment. Altogether, I can't say enough about the quality of this product. It demands game play. There's no other word for it - it's just cool!!
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This is a nice small piece with some intricate detailing and an interesting pose. The weapons are cool and the neatly rendered outfit might promise a positive response. My major complaint is that he's not very useful since dragonspawn don't appeal to me. I think it might be hard to pawn him off as something else. The quality of work here is fine. I just don't appreciate the subject matter. I realize that the designers were trying to support other products but my vote would be for them to channel their considerable talent to more classic figures. This piece has potential but just left me wondering what on earth to do with it.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This one, though nicely detailed and certainly useful, is kinda a yawner. He's so fragile on his feet (actually mine arrived completely bent onto his back - he's never fully recovered) and thin (doggy slimfast?) that he just comes off as wimpy. No intimidation despite his pose (his tentative expression doesn't help). The only thing that really keeps him from being a complete loss is the usefulness of this piece (and my own personal bias - I really like gnolls!). This miniature will probably see plenty of use but don't expect any "wow"s to come along with him. All he can do is "sit" and "stay".
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This is a great piece! I was so thrilled to pull this beauty from the box. The startling contrast of flaming hair and dark skin is wonderful. The bulging muscles, the powerful weapon poised to squish you into jelly, the fierce expression - all of it superbly wrought. You can feel the heft of this guy both figuratively and literally. If this thing doesn't make your players quiver with fear, nothing will. It is impressively rendered and wonderfully designed and detailed. It is an amazing piece!
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. I love this mini! It is perfectly scaled and the paint job is superb. The detailed work is amazing - you can see every fluffy strand of fur (and I owned huskies for almost fifteen years - I know dog hair!!). Her teeth, her expression - little extras like the earrings, it's all superlative! And I also like that she's female - a nice nod toward equal rights. This piece brought plenty of oohs and ahs to the table which is why I regard this as an excellent game tool.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. I don't have a specific complaint about this piece, I guess. It is heavy and well-built, nicely rendered and well detailed. I just don't like it. Maybe because I don't see it as very useful. I wish the designers had used their artistic energies and high quality plastic on a different creature. They did an excellent job - I just don't like the monster.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This is one of my least favorite pieces and one I'm definitely sorry I wasted good money one. The construction is solid and scaled appropriately (for being "young") and the weapon is kinda cool (a nice change from the standard great axe) but that's about all the kind words I can summon for this piece. The coloring is just nasty and what's up with his facial expression? Is that "D'oh!" or what? Rather than intimidating, he comes off more like mentally deficient. The smaller size that sets him apart from standard minotaurs also makes his usefulness about zero in anything but the narrowest niche. I don't know what else to say except don't waste your time on this one. He brings nothing to the table.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. I have two of these, one being used as a PC, the other for DM use. I enjoy the concept of this piece. This guy comes off a little meek and mild (which is perfect for the character he's being used to represent). Not one of those minis that raises an eyebrow or brings a gasp. In fact it is so ordinary as to barely be noticed. But that's not a bad thing (at least not to me). My only complaint is that the paint job is little sloppy and the facial detail lacking. Still, it's a solid piece and a good representation of the more "common" side of medieval life.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This mini is impressively rendered and has stunning detail, especially on the wings. The facial features are striking and the paintjob flawless. The green skin was a bit bright and shocking for my tastes but it still managed to bring oohs and ahs to the table. It might not be as "playable" as others, nor the most impressive piece in my collection, but it is a good solid miniature and useful, if only in a limited capacity.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. I was so excited when I pulled this one from the box. The artist has perfectly captured the classic troll in all his glory. The detail of the rendering is so lifelike, one is tempted to cover your heart (or other precious body part) in defense of the coming claw attack. This piece is perfectly scaled and has well thought-out design. It is sturdy and promises years of good play. But it is the "yikes" factor he brings to the table that makes him a truly superior piece. This mini demands to be used at every opportunity.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. This mini is the perfect example of what a small mini should be. Despite its size, it has rich detail. Nothing is lost on closer inspection. It's not overly delicate - it can take a bump and bang or two. Though it's small, it still brings oohs and ahs to the table. It is far superior to the other kobold miniatures available. This one is so cool, it seems a shame to kill the little guy. Well, ... almost.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. I was disappointed with this mini. First of all, mini is truly the word for it. Maybe I just have been imagining the size of this creature inaccurately all along but this piece is tiny in scale. Which leads to my next complaint, it's so small the details are lost and the paint job looks sloppy. Rather than be blown away, everyone had to lean forward and squint, muttering, "what is that thing?" when I plopped it on the table. NOT the reaction I was going for! One small consolation, his weapon is pretty cool.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. I love this mini! It is heavy (can hardly believe it's just plastic) and nicely detailed. Not your average lizardman here! There was an audible gulp when I placed him on the table. He's cool.
I don't collect/trade miniatures but I do use them for roleplaying. I bought this one because it was cheap and I'm not at all sorry I did. It is solidly constructed and wonderfully detailed despite its small size. I can't really put it into words but there's just a "neat"ness factor or a coolness about this mini. It just makes me want to come up with excuses to include it in my game!
I don't collect miniatures but do use them for roleplaying. This mini is okay but not at all intimidating as I'd like it to be. I'm not sure if the scale is off or what but it just isn't scary or even impressive. I grew up around real black bears and though smaller than a brown bear they still demand a healthy respect. I realize this one is a "good" bear but does that translate into wimpy? It's still useful; it just doesn't bring any bang to the table. More like a yawn. Bottom line - not an impressive addition to my collection.
I do not collect miniatures but use them for role-playing. I bought this one because it was cheap, but it ended up being one of my favorites. It is wonderfully detailed and crisp even for a small piece. It makes me want to come up with excuses to include it in my game!
