And yeah, I don't think it would be clever to tell him the truth...you could employ a lie yourself...there must be a better reason to search for this nesting chamber than cooking an omelette."

"It is a little sad when the truth is harder to believe than the fiction we are making up."

Vaughn Elliot wrote:
That's easy...we're looking for something one of the naga hid there, a piece of treasure or something, and that's where it's rumored to be hidden.

"Go ahead Daggers. I'm not objecting to the idea, but tell what treasure we could be looking for in a nest of nagas. What great or small trinket could we be looking for? A book, a ring, a shiny box?"

"I do like information, but it is imperative that we not give away any information on our part. I think Alchy is right. The fewer people who know our intent, the better! But still, if we can find out how to get in there without getting ourselves into deep trouble, I would be most pleased. If we arrange a meeting with this informant, can you all keep our purpose secret? I mean I cannot imagine he will be real supportive if we told him that we were stealing eggs and killing all of the naga young, so my cousin could win a cooking contest!"

Clever & Charming Halfling Sorcerer 7 (hp: 53/53, AC 21, T 17, FF 18) Spells: 1st: 8/8, 2nd:8/8, 3rd: 5/5

"I could certainly flatter them by telling them how great they are, but that doesn't seem as effective as a good blast of fireball."

"What can we really do with such a weakness?"

"Well, how about some advice. Do these nagas have any weaknesses? I mean, it would be amazing to destroy their breeding place, but how can we pull off this job? Clearly few others have even tried such an endeavor."

"Also, do you know of any way to effectively destroy a breeding ground, without the nagas necessarily knowing what we've done? What if we poisoned the nest or took a dart and stabbed each of the eggs? This would be quite the little job!"

"I will send for a map...meanwhile you could explain me, why a recipe is important enough to risk your lives so blatantly."

Kyren smiles at the question posed. "That is a fair question, my dear. It is one that I have been wondering myself. Let us just say that my cousin, Bobo, has been assisting us at the "Revive for a Better Life" for quite some time now. He has put up with us hosting young goddesses who escaped from the pyramid cult and with mwangi slaves, and now we thought we could return the favor to this young halfling chef. We have a close relationship with Gondel Gobbletor, the chef of the Gryphon Plume, and he has given my cousin a remarkable recipe that is likely to win a cooking contest that will propel my chef cousin into culinary stardom! Retrieving the eggs is a marvelous idea and an extremely generous gift, if I do say so myself, but the drawback is that we will be putting our lives at risk, blatantly as you say. So although we are willing to support cousin Bobo, we were hoping that, at the very least, you could make this quest really worth our while. Perhaps you have some suggestions on what else we might accomplish while down in the bowels of mother earth?"

"This sounds like the place. However, if we are going to go and deal with traps and monsters and such, I'm just wondering if there is anything else we can do for you while we are down there. I mean, hunting for eggs certainly sounds like fun, but if we are already down there, I think it would be nice if we accomplished some non cooking goals as well. Are there any lost Duskwardens in that area or enslaved creatures that need rescuing, or at least some shiny gold for Kenta and all of us to share? I mean, if we are hunting eggs, wouldn't it be better to kill two or three birds with one stone?"

Clever & Charming Halfling Sorcerer 7 (hp: 53/53, AC 21, T 17, FF 18) Spells: 1st: 8/8, 2nd:8/8, 3rd: 5/5

"No, no, Amberline, my dear. We are not going after dragon eggs today. To be honest, we are in search of eggs of a naga. We are hoping to cause some trouble for the vile reptiles and boost my cousin's reputation in the cooking world. Do you know where we might be able to find such a nest? My friend Kenta is also wondering if there is any profit to be made with such an expedition? We thought that perhaps you could help us out."

Kyren nudges Feranel as he leads the others into the fortress. "Don't worry," he declares. "They know me in here and I am very close the head Duskwarden. We are like this." Kyren holds up two fingers side by side. He then strolls inside the Duskwarden's Fortress and begins looking around for Amberline. After a moment, he inquires with some of the guards. "Excuse me, good sir. I am Kyren Tosscobble of the Wee Bluets and we were looking for the lovely Dusklady Aamberline Terrafiere. Could you kindly direct us in her direction? Thank you, my good man."

"Right, right. Naturally I remembered where to go. I was just testing you to make sure that you knew where we are going. But I see know that your memory is perfect. Now, keep up the fine work and keep the business running while we are out. Have a splendid day, cousin!"

Turning to the rest of the company, Kyren asks, "So boys, are we ready to go?"

When everybody is ready, Kyren leads his companions to the Duskwardens'.

"Yes, yes, Cousin! I know there are eggs to be gathered! We are getting to that! But first, I need to make arrangements with one of the many scholars that is interested in studying my life and work."

"I'm sorry for the interruption. My cousin is very narrowly focussed on a most pressing problem he has. He needs us to go and acquire the egg from a Naga. I suppose they don't sell that at the local market, so he is sending us on a wild egg hunt first."

"Well, anyway, Mr. Branchfire, I am glad to hear that you are not here to delve into all of the closets of my life, for most certainly I do have a few skeletons lingering there. But if you don't mind a little risk and danger in your life, then you are more than welcome to accompany myself and the other Wee Bluets on our little egg hunt if you wish. Mind you, I cannot guarantee that you will get to taste any of Bobo's recipe when he is done. Will you be content eating just chicken eggs on our journey?"

Your work seems all very theoretical and as you will soon discover, my approach to life is very . . . well . . . practical, but if you don't mind putting up with myself and the Wee Bluets, then I suppose you could tag along for a while. But tell me, Mr. Branchfire, how much privacy will I retain? I mean, will I be under your magnifying lens at all times?"

You have literally no one in your family line who has exhibited more than a passing capability in manipulating magical fields. More than that, you have not been exposed to any phenomenon that would suggest an awakening of such power. You are an outsider among outsiders, you are a sorcerer with no background beyond what he feels. Tell me, Mr. Tosscobble. What do you think of that?"

Kyren sits up straighter in his chair and begins to blush slightly as the elf comes to the part about one mystery that stands above the rest. "You are a very eloquent scholar, Mr. Firebranch. You have used such delightful words to describe a mystery that I have explored since I was just a wee Tosscobble. I guess I would just have to add that the only thing that I ever considered to have given me the magic I possess is that I was born at the moment of a solar eclipse. For indeed my birth name is Kyreneth Shadowsun Tosscobble. The shadowsun naturally coming from a most rare and unique moment upon when many great things in the universe were aligned. I just assumed that somehow my destiny was infused in me at that moment."

"Tell me Mr. Tosscobble how much do you know about the the nature of magic? Not merely the practice, but the actual force behind it?"

"The nature of magic? Well that's a funny question. Let me see if I can explain it the way I see it and in a way that makes sense to you. You see magic is my friend. She is always there for me! Think of it as a great universal force that follows me around allowing me to fulfill a great destiny. I understand that magic likes it when I shape its power and use it to express my will upon the world. I mean, I am not trying to control the world or anything like that. I just find that it flows through my veins naturally and somehow it is related to my destiny. So each day I try to put it to use accomplishing some small deed. I figure that in time all of my little small deeds will add up to one great deed! Does this answer your question, Mr. Branch fire?

"Bobo, not now!" Kyren says as his gives Bobo a glare that he hopes tells his cousin to stop talking. Alas, he sighs and then turns back to the elf. "Very well, Mr. Branchfire. Forgive my own manners, but I can never be too cautious in this city. I am Kyren Tosscobble at your service." He says with a graceful bow and a sweep of his hand. Gesturing to the seat across the table from him he adds, "Please have a seat and tell me what I can do for you. May I offer you a drink?"

"Excuse me for asking, Mr. Branchfire, but how did you come to hear of the name, Kyren Tosscobble? You appear to know a great deal about him, especially if you know of his gambling debts! And what is the nature of this research you are doing? Are you planning to write a book on great sorcerers?"

The next morning, Kyren Tosscobble sits at the the table eating a large bowl of oatmeal. Between bites, he is in the middle of a conversation with Vaughn Eliot about the benefits of eggs when the bronze skinned elf enters the room.

" . . . well at the very least, eggs give protein and have more flavor than oats. You can at least dip bread in them to fry it up and make a delightful treat. Dipping bread in oatmeal only seems to cause more lumps."

Ferranel Branchfire wrote:
"Good morning. Might I inquire as to where I might find a Mr. Tosscobble here?"

"Indeed that was a well played game, my friend. I thank you kindly. There are few that wish to even put themselves to the test. At the moment, Abacus is one of the only ones who will play me. Well, it is getting late. Perhaps I will get to bed and call it a night. We want a good night sleep before we go off on our egg hunt."

"OK, why don't you teach me??"

"Kazam! Kazam! Somebody willing to play my favotite game with me! Now, don't feel bad if you don't win. I've beaten countless champions. Take for example Grandmaster Ulkay of Cassomir. He is the best player from all of Taldor and formerly Grand Tzarek Champion of Avistan. I also beat Gezeiah, the Tzarek Dragon. He was perhaps the most intelligent kobold ever to see the light of Golarion. That was a scary match. He had a huge temper and aggressive style of play. Although, one of my greatest challenges was against Haladan Linnormsmasher. He was a tall blonde man from the Land of the Linnorm Kings who just recently reached Grandmaster status and is one of the hottest players at the moment. Naturally I beat him as well.

Now, I'm sorry to be putting you against such a master as myself. Unfortunately, beating me will be nigh impossible, but at the very least we can have some fun. Here, let me give you a run down on all the basics."

Kyren takes out his prize Tzarek set and places the pieces on it. He then proceeds to given Vaughn Eliot a lession. "You see, we've got these chariots on the end, and a count and countess and knights as well and they move like this. The objective of the game is to get these pieces past your defense and capture your Count in the process. . . "

An untrained Tzarek check is simply using intelligence. There are three skill checks made. The first is for the opening. The result is put into the ability score table for modifiers. So for example an 18 becomes a +4 modifier, a 20 is +5 etc.. This first modifier goes into the second skill check, which is for the middle game. That result is then put through the ability score modifier table again and that will modify your final roll which is the endgame. The third roll determines the outcome of the game.

"Now that I've taught you the basics, let's have a little fun game. You know, nothing too competitive, just a little light action. Hehe. I'll even start with the Andoran defense. I know Abacus says it is a little outdated, but this is just a fun game anyway. . . right?"

Tzarek Opening Check: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23 Grants +6
Tzarek Middlegame Check: 1d2 + 15 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 15 + 6 = 22 Grants +6
Tzarek Endgame Check: 1d2 + 15 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 15 + 6 = 22

Vaughn, here is your chance to beat Kyren Tosscobble, Tzarek Champion extraordinaire! You simply need to beat a 22 by your third check.

The sweat begins to trickle off of his forehead as Kyren Tosscobble gets himself into a vulnerable position that may result in his defeat.

Let's enjoy ourselves for a night and then tomorrow we can think about what steps we need to take. I mean, we don't even know where to begin to start finding this hidden egg depository. Let's make merry!"

With a grin on his face, Kyren waves his hands in somatic gestures and finally commands, "Bazzle dee karp bring me my harp!" Suddenly with a dramatic poof of smoke, a magnificent wooden harp appears in his hands.

"Kazam! Now we are talking! Let's hear the harp unleashed!"

The halfling sorcerer begins playing a vigorous tune as his fingers fly over the strings. Although the halfling is clearly proficient at his craft, you can tell that something sounds amiss from his usual performance.

Perform, Harp: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18

"Crazzleboks!" Suddenly Kyren stops in the middle of his performance. "Alright! Who's been messing with my harp?! It's all out of tune. Bobo, I hope you haven't been letting your friends use this while I was away. And knowing your friends as I do, they probably didn't even wash their hands before touching the strings!"

Kyren ponders Bobo's words for a moment carefully. Then after some reflection replies, "Ok, cousin. I admit, you have been doing a fine job here and you have put up with us quite willingly. So let me tell you what I'm thinking. First, I would only be willing to try and steal these eggs if my companions are willing to come along. I would not want to attempt this without the cats and Daggers at my side. Secondly, I would like to sample some of this cuisine when you are finished making the recipe. To stay in Kaer Maga, I need to feel a semblance of normalcy and at least some good food can help me feel that. So, let me check with the others."

Turning to Alchy, Daggers, Kenta, and Tal, Kyren asks, "So, my friends, would you be willing to go and steal some eggs for a really good cause? Perhaps in the next little adventure, we can find some more slaves to release. That last Naga we knew really did have quite a collection. Perhaps we can kill a few birds with one stone on this next jaunt."

Now Bobo, you know I have always been supportive of your cooking. I introduced you to a master chef and brought you in customers for you to practice your art here in the Revive. But do you know what you are asking of us? A naga's egg chamber is going to be very well protected and they are not going to be too understanding if visitors come in and take their eggs for dinner! Clearly if we can break into the high echelons of the pyramid of an evil cult, there are few places that can keep us out. We are certainly able to do the job, but thus far, you have managed to evade the answer to the ingredient question. Answer Dagger's question and stop beating around the bush. Tell us exactly what tasty delicacy you need for this amazing recipe. Clearly it is an egg, but of what? And you better not tell us that it is the egg of an evil drow chicken!"

So, please come in and make yourself at home. Soon I will show you to your rooms, but first, our great chef, (my cousin, Bobo) will be coming out with cookies very shortly. I'm not sure if you've ever had such a delicacy, but either way, you are in for a treat! He is becoming a truly remarkable chef. He has actually studied under the master chef Gondel Gobbletor. Just wait until you taste these circular treats of exquisiteness! So please, my friends, have a seat and let us visit. Perhaps we should begin with some proper introductions. I am Kyren S. Tosscobble at your service. Please be kind enough to give me your names. I would love to hear your stories."

"Bobo, my cousin, I was sure you would be delighted to have some young ladies staying with us! You know what they say about the Revive, don't you? There's always room for one more! Let them come on in! There's always room. We'll let them share one of the guest rooms. We just need to make sure that we have enough food to keep them well fed. I hope you've got some of Gobbletor's recipes all lined up!"

"My friends, let's us not talk of hallucinogenic drugs and getting drunk in the presence of these great children. Naturally, we all want to celebrate the rescuing of these little darlings, but let's wait until we've put them to bed! Come, let's make our way home."

Kyren gladly says goodbye to the pyramid, the cultists, and the zombies and leads his companions back to the Revive.

Kyren nimbly dodges out of the way by pretending he is the feather of an eagle. Not unlike his work with gliders, the Tosscobble flows with the wind current and avoids being struck on the head by an unwelcome shard.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

"Krazzleboks! Look out for flying debris and chunks of metal!. I guess they just don't make pyramids the way the use to!"

Once he lands on the ground, he brushes himself off and immediately casts mage hand to direct the light weight feather falling friends to a safer location.

"Feather, feather, avoid the weather! It's raining more than cats and dogs!"

He will try to aid somebody who looks like they are having trouble floating down safely.

Kyren moves his hand in a quick flourish and declares "Feathermalever!" to cast feather fall upon himself and the remaining party members (6 medium sized creatures). He casts a second one if needed.

"Let's get carried away! Not like our usual shenanigans. We'll do that later, but carried away as the wind gently takes down to the ground!"

Kyren makes sure the rest are floating safely down before he jumps off the pyramid yelling "Kazaaaaaaam!".

"Kazam! Kazam! Double Kazam! Alchy, I had no idea that you had that in you! That sure is a nifty trick! I'm sorry that I don't have any birdseed to offer you, but I know some ladies who would be mighty grateful for a ride."

Kyren helps comfort the girls and assure them that things will be alright.

"Come along, my dearies. Let's not fight about who gets to go first, there will be time for us all to get a ride. Alchy was an amazing cat and an even better eagle, he will swoop you up and get you down in no time. Just wait right there when you get back to ground level. Come here, my dear, you will be first."

"Alchy, here is your first customer!"

"Yes, an eagle would be very helpful at this time, but I'm not sure how likely it is for one to show up out of the blue and start giving us rides. Crazzleboks, maybe if we had some gourmet bird seed to try and lure it close. We also might want to think about hiding Blaze, the cat. I'm not sure that birds and cats get along so well, especially if they are both big!"

"Berry, so you have some way of creating an escape hatch for us? We need to find an exit and quickly! This is not exactly the sort of place I want to hang out in any longer than we need to!"

"Then come along. Come along, my dears. We will be safely visiting around a table, enjoying some gourmet food before long. First we need to get out of here safely. Please pair yourselves up and keep track of everyone. We do not want to leave any of you behind. Now do we have everyone?"

Turning to Alchy and Vaughn, Kyren comments, "Ok my friends, we are just about ready to go, we need to make a decision quickly. How do we get out of here? Is there any other way besides through zombie land?"

Kyren first looks around to see how safe the area is.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Are there some quick and easy ways to get the girls out of this pyramid?

If he sees a way to lead them out, he greets the young ladies with the grace and charm of a circus ring master.

"My dear, dear, children, I am Kyren Tosscobble, harpist extraordinaire at your service!" He begins with a gracious bow. "I would gladly play a tune or two for you, to show you how music weaves wondrous magic in all of our lives, but unfortunately, this is not exactly the time or place for it. We must take my friends' advice and leave this place at once.

"Will you kindly permit me to introduce you to the Wee Bluets. We are naturally here to help you. You are not safe here and if you kindly follow us, we can retire to a lovely place where we will give you food and drink and we can discuss matters in a much more civilized manner. Now, do you see these big furry cats, that is Alchy and Blaze. They are here to guide us all to safety. Will you please kindly come with me. We must not panic. Let's walk calm and quietly and we will all make it out safely. Now remember, there is no pushing. We will all stick together and when we leave here, we will bring you to a place of great beauty and atmosphere, the Revive for a Better Life. If you are all well behaved, I promise to even teach you how to play Tzarek. It is a gave beyond all games!"

Kyren tries to put the girls at ease with his friendly and easy going manner. Once he feels, he has their trust, he will escort them out of the pyramid.

What exactly do you mean the children are safe? Have we rescued them? If the pyramid is beginning to slide, do we need to flee? Can we get them out safely?"

"Kazam!! Kazam!! Double Kazam! That was a hell of a blast, Berry! Toasted Sentry by my reckoning!"

"Crazzleboks! Why doesn't it just say ouch or something so that I know he is taking damage?!"

Kyren waves his hands in quick somatic gestures and casts magic missle at one of the sentries. "Bolts be free!"
