How is everyone marking their cards? I've been using pencil and eraser for the most part, although I used pen on a few cards when I didn't have a pencil handy.
I did find a website that sells custom labels. They offer a full white sheet label with removable adhesive. They are quite expensive though, and I'll probably end up looking at Staples or OfficeMax first.
Even though the cards are relatively cheap, the randomness of them makes it hard for me to warrant writing on them. I fear Post-It notes won't stick well enough.
Two other options involve using a 9-pocket (or similar) plastic binder sheet (or whatever you want to call them). You can either:
a) Put a small sheet of paper/index card/whatever, in the back of the card for reference, or
b) Put a label or sticker on the outside of each pocket...
I'm planning on making 1 or 1-1/2" binders for my players when I run my Ptolus campaign this spring, and will include several sheets of card protectors for their item cards. Now if we could only get Jason to post the contents of the Adventure Gear set!
Derek Poppink wrote: Great to hear everyone's called shots. In the interests of having other people post, maybe it would be best if each person chose one item. But I don't want to see just one item! I want all 54!
If I had to guess, and make it a fun one, I'd say, Small Steel Mirror. If not, it sure as heck better be in the next set of Adventure Gear.
I'm not upset with the Relics of War results. If you buy a display box you get 108 cards (not counting foils). So naturally you can't expect to get a full 110 card set... However, You shouldn't have to buy more than say, 16 packs, to get a full set (or within one or two cards). It's at that point that individual cards for sale, even at 25 or 50 cents a piece become worthwhile for the collector.
A Rope Belt, A Robe with Eyes all over it, A robe with stars all over it... The list could go on if you just read a lot of the descriptions in the DMG.
I can't wait for the magic item compendium to come out. Not because I think it'll be useful as a book for me (I preach abilities, not items), but it may spawn more items card ideas!
Flint, Small Steel Mirror, Grappling Hook, Trail Rations, Water Skin, Rope, Torch, Tent, Bedroll, Backpack, 10 Ft. Pole.
What else do you need? :D
So when are you posting the list Jason?!?! How are we supposed to know whether or not to preorder one box or 6? (so that ever character can have a torch!)
Assuming Derek and I complete the deal we’ve been discussing, this is where I currently stand:
Hero’s Hoard
Have to Trade:
24 Halberd
28 Longsword
33 Shortbow (2)
35 Shortsword
58 Ring
59 Ring
64 Scroll (2)
68 Scroll
69 Scroll
70 Scroll
73 Rod
75 Staff
76 Staff
81 Wand
83 Wand
86 Wand (2)
87 Wand
Need:
14 Tower Shield
37 Spear
38 Spiked Chain
39 Warhammer
Relics of War:
Have to Trade:
03 Demonhide
32 Scythe
61 Ring
63 Scroll
64 Scroll
71 Scroll
72 Rod
74 Staff
85 Wand
87 Wand
Need:
94 Bracers
23 Longbow
I also have the Following Foils that I really don’t care about:
Hero's Hoard:
02 Breastplate
11 Buckler
40 Potion
50 Potion
I’ll trade them for other foils or perhaps a few regular cards.
So I'm not going to do a real analysis at the moment (too little sleep), but here are the results from my first Display box of Hero's Hoard:
Note that this does not factor in foil cards.
2 Triples
27 Doubles
21 Cards not received.
There were TWO packs were I got the same card twice, and two more packs where the foil card was the same as another card in the pack (which I fully understand happening).
My Relics of War Display Box went much better with:
22 Doubles
12 Cards not received.
To build off the special materials ideas:
Dragonbone Composite Longbow
or things like:
Exotic Armors and weapons out of the Races books. (Mountain Plate, etc)
One the bright side, it appears that a lot of people got this workbook for Christmas! Here's hoping it's an isolated incident.
A picture of Balabar Smenk can be found in the #124 supplement.

Make that three packs, and three items that are the same. But don't worry Jason, your job's safe. I already put in an order at my FLGS for a couple of display boxes. :D

Jason Bulmahn wrote: In the end, you might need to hunt for a bit to get the one weapon card you need, but everything else is much easier. Jason, first let me say thanks for the quick response. That's very rare these days (especially from the lead desinger!) Second, I picked up a pack tonight to check out the quality of the product (my FLGS didn't have a complete display box *grin*). They look great!
Here's what I'm still left feeling though. I'd love to be able to buy a complete set. Beyond that, I'd love to have extras of a few things too... So I'm left with two options:
Option 1: Buy several display boxes of each set.
Pros: Lots of extra cards, including foils. Supports Paizo, and promotes future releases of the product. Can execute this option today (well, okay, the day after Christmas).
Cons: Lots of (potentially useless) cards. Even after a ton of cards purchased, there is no guarantee that I'll get a complete set.
Option 2: Wait and buy a set on ebay and buy mini-sets on ebay.
Pros: Guaranteed a complete set. I get only the cards I think I want.
Cons: Doesn't directly support Paizo (less unique purchasers?) Sets aren't offered on ebay yet. There are sets and mini-sets offered on these messageboards, but I'm not sure I'm okay exchanging money like that...
Anyway, thanks again for the response. Anyone out there who has sets and is looking to unload them, let me know.
Let me first start by saying that I have painfully avoided TCGs and CCGs for the past 4 years. And let's just say it's part of the reason I'm still married today.
I really like, scratch that, LOVE these cards, and I'm kicking myself for just now discovering them. My group's been using index cards for a couple of years now, and these would be a very welcome addition (replacement?). Just one problem, the random distribution. And yes, I understand why they do it, I just hate it. So normally I'm one of the "4 complete sets" guys, but like I said, I'd prefer to stay married. So my questions are:
How worth it is it to have more than 1 complete set of these cards? If I have 3 people in my group wanting to wear plate mail, I'd like to have three plate mail cards, right?
Why is no one selling complete sets on eBay yet? I'd have to imagine that this would be a worthwhile venture...
I'd love to see an AoW hardcover, if only to get redundant copies of maps! :)
On a sort of side note... Any know of a way to get another copy of the Diamond Lake map w/o having to buy issue #124 again? Even a smaller digital version would suffice. Kind of a drag when you lose something as valuable as the starting map!!
