I looked in the Bestiary Preview and the Bonus Bestiary, and I couldn't spot any LA entry for the intelligent critters. Is the idea of playing monsters being dropped completely?

I was sad in 3.5 because there was no LA for older dragons. So much for an all-dragon campaign? ;P

druid and pally animals break the 2 int rule.

I'd also say cap int at 2.

I was thinking maybe to leave all the "mental" abilities as they were; I was just curious as to whether it had already been taken into account and decided against for some reason.

An option for Rangers to trade their spellcasting ability for something else. I HATE spellcasting Rangers. It never made any sense to me.

I agree with this.

Also, a feat to allow swarm familiars/animal companions would be cool. Picture a druid whose companion was a swarm of insects - not just one type of insect, or one large insect, but a creeping mat of whatever insects are local to the area. Or a school of fish familiar in a water campaign. Pirahnas!

Does no one know? Or is this just a stupid question?

  • Sorceror bloodlines: Shadow (please!) and maybe something like Plant, Desert, Cold
  • Paladins for evil or neutral gods. None of that prestige class mumbo jumbo.
  • Cleric domains: Pestilence (pretty please?), Summoning, Hatred, Retribution, Suffering, Tyranny, Undeath, Cold, Inquisition, Domination and Dream

In the Bestiary preview, it says heavy horses gain the advanced simple template. The advanced simple template says if you want to rebuild the creature, you should add +4 to all its abilities.

Is that a typo? Or is a heavy horse really that much more intelligent, wise and charismatic than a light horse? Am I reading this wrong?

This is somewhere on the todo list to fix. I think it should work if you try your review from the first page of reviews on the product page itself (not any of the pages of the thread for the discussion for the product).

My review is on the second page of reviews, but clicking edit just reloads the first page again. I hope it gets fixed soon, as my review is already severely out of date. :P

On the page for the Pathfinder Core book, when I hit "show all reviews" the page just reloads, and when I hit "edit review" it does the same. Is this happening for anybody else?

The CMD should be the same all the time. I am saying this because in 3.5 when they were opposed rolls you always used your highest BAB to defend yourself, but the creature attacking you would keep having to resort to a lower BAB while attacking.
The CMB is just a variation so we don't have to learn new rules for every special attack type.

PS: When I posted nobody else had post, but now I am further down the list. These boards are strange.

I think I understand - no matter what, the CMD would be 22, correct? Thanks for the help. :)

concerro wrote:

It would be +6/+1

Most people will try to use the Combat Maneuver on the first attack to make sure it gets through.

But what about the CMD? If it was 10+(+6/+1)+Str 3+Dex 3 +size 0, would it equal +22/+17? When would the +17 come into play?

Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm unsure how to add the bab to the CMB and CMD once the bab splits; if a bab is +6/+1, for example, do you end up with a CMB that reads (+6/+1)+Str 0+Size 0= +6/+1 (thereby gaining multiple maneuvers) or do you just add them so CMB = +7?

Thanks, everyone! Good links, and I hadn't even heard of LoJack until now (not that they offer services in my country, but...). I just wish I'd known about it earlier, and could get ahold of that "#€%"%# thief.

Do you even have anything to identify the thing? MAC-Adresses or the like (not that they cannot be changed, but still).

I may have the MACs on my router at home; I'll have to check when I get back. Other than that, I'm afraid I'm SOOL.

Inherently, no. At least not the the manufacturers let on.

There is software you can buy that will allow a laptop to be tracked if stolen though, in the same way there is for cars...

The other option is to just encrypt the hard drive, that way, at least you know no vital data is going to go walkabout. This is something I've always meant to do.....

Thanks for your kind words, guys. :) I hope they do just wipe the drive, I had a bunch of passwords on there. X( I spent all day yesterday trying to remember the various sites so I could change my passwords. You wouldn't happen to know the name of the software you can use to track stolen stuff, would you? Or a good encryption program?

My laptop has been stolen, and it had my downloads from paizo on it. What can I do to keep from getting into trouble if the thief decides to fileshare them? Can I re-initialize them or something?

Sorry if this is too noob a question, but if a druid takes the animal domain as his nature bond, and gets Summon Companion that stays until dismissed, does that mean the druid essentially can have an animal companion picked from the Summon Nature's Ally list that's "permanent" until dismissed? Or does it only stay for the duration of that spell OR is dismissed?

The other way seems like it makes getting a normal animal companion pointless, since with Summon Companion you can "upgrade" your choice all the time and still have your animal around with you all the time. Am I making sense?

I originally had plans for a shadow bloodline but space constraints got in the way.

I am hoping to leave plenty of room to play around with these rules in the future though.

I second the call for a shadow bloodline, it's just what I need!

Will the OGL material be converted to Pathfinder once the final version is out?

Most animals will get their skills bumped up to the right level by the ubiquitous 'racial bonus'.
Consider that a raven, as you used in your example, is tiny, so it gets major bonuses to Stealth, and it's natural fly speed (with average maneuverability grants it a bonus on Fly skill checks as well. While these aren't actual ranks, it does provide bit more in the skills section of a stablock than just perception.

Good point. I'll keep size in mind while converting... though I've never caught on to the system behind the size of the racial bonuses some creatures get. +6 to Fly, maybe? *guessing*

One question: Where do I download the extra maps promised on pg.63? Is it a map folio I have to buy, or is it free content I can't seem to find?

I just wanted to chip in that I kinda' like the option of being Unaligned. Neutral implies a preference for balance, while Unaligned suggests indifference. Animals and a lot of people would be Unaligned.
I kinda like the Unaligned idea, too. Might kind of replace Chaotic Neutral, though...

I like to use James Beach's definition of alignments, particularly for Chaotic Neutral, which few people seem to know how to handle. He has some good insights on the other alignments, as well.

I'm a little confused about converting skill points for animals. It says they have 2 points + their Int mod, which is negative, leaving them just one point per HD? Is that correct? So if I was converting a raven, it would have just Perception +1 + its Wis mod + the +3 class skill bonus, giving it Perception +6?

Thanks, Shisumo, Azoun and Razzill! I'd better re-read those rules so they stick a little better in my memory...

Thanks for the link, Daigle. Now if I can just get Excel to run properly, I should be all set.

I'm doing the same, using the complete conversion method outlined in the DM section of the Alpha document. As I make conversions, I'm posting them on the Pathfinder Wiki PRPG portal.

I see you've given Nualia the defensive ability Bravery, which doesn't seem to be in the 3.5 description. What does that ability grant her?

Mistwalker wrote:

The only thing that I have had to modify is that I calculate the CMB for the opponents, which is very fast and easy to do.

Er, the CMB? You lost me there... what's that?

yoda8myhead wrote:
The Excel-based character creator that is posted about elsewhere here has been great at that, by the way, so if you plan to do any conversions of core races/classes, this is a great resource.

Thanks for the link! Does anyone have a link to the character creator?

I'm thinking of running Rise of the Runelords with the Alpha 3 rules as a pbem, but I know it was written for 3.5. Is there anything I should pay special attention to/worry about? Any suggestions for how to deal with pertinent changes?

Rezdave wrote:

The Wands are a good idea, though I'd throw in one each CMW and CLW or better yet a single CLW wand some CSW potions they can distribute to slug down in combat. There are enough of them they can trade-off on the front lines as-needed to heal a bit then return to the fight.

Rez

Thanks for your advice, Rez. The game is also low-magic (house rules limit casting), so I'll have to be careful with the opponents and figure out something with the healing... I'll probably go with potions rather than wands. Like, a cask of potions. >_>

That's very helpful, thank you very much! Good point about the 3.0/3.5 difference too, thanks.

Hi,

I'm not an experienced DM and I could use some help scaling Elfwhisper from Dungeon #90 for my party. The party consists of 4 lvl.5 PCs, 3 lvl.6 PCs and a lvl.7 PC. As a side note, they have very limited access to healing magic (one cleric), if that makes a difference. I'd really appreciate some help!

Thanks!

I'm interested to know this as well.

I'll chime in with the those who find this a crushing loss. I looked forward to each issue as a bright point in my month. I hope Paizo considers publishing something a bit more a la Dungeon, with several one-shot adventures rather than one huge one.

That said, I could live with a Mythos-esque AP book a la the Styes... any chance the new world has room for an area that would cater to that?
