I went to the "my subscriptions" page and it says my LAST issue is 149, so the FIRST issue of my new sub is 144.
I'm not sure which one was the last issue of my previous sub.
If it was 143 then I havent received it. I would have liked it to be the first issue of my subscription.

I would like to see more "horror" oriented adventures.
More specifically something to do with the far-realm.
I heard awhile ago that there was a 3-adventure arc coming that had something to do with the far realm. What happened to it?

Or just more Styes. Either one is good.

Where's it at again? I'm piqued.

It's in issue #139.

dizzyk,

Is it still possible to get those conversion notes? My group is about to finish TWC. Thanks!

Dizzyk, if you still have the conversion notes I would greatly appreciate them.

Or if anyone else still has the notes could you be so kind as to send them along to:
swooshman1 @ excite . com

Thank you in advance!

Lilith that is exactly what I was looking for.
My players seem to have a habit of not really knowing "who their character is", and just seem to make it up as they go.
One player in particular is constantly playing an #$%hole type character that never really wants to be a "team" player. This can be a pain as I only have 3 players.
Those questions should hopefully help out some so I know what type of hooks to throw at them. Thank you!

D-Battle raging dwarf from 2nd ED.(no update)

The Battle Rager was updated (sort of) as a prestige class.

It appears in the book "Races of Faerun", but it is not specifically tied to the setting in any real way.

Hey! Who's this red-cloaked dude? And what has he done with the REAL Christopher West?!

I was wondering that myself.

I hope your proposals get accepted Chris. I look forward to running an adventure somewhere in the Rift.

A question for Christopher West.

I just received issue 141 of Dungeon and I have to say that the Drakebourn Sanctum is excellent!
But I have to know whether we will be seeing any of the other locations in the Forsaken Rift in the near future? One of the cities, perhaps?

My party's most dreaded enemy had to be Shahng from Wrath of the Abyss.
They were all basically playing fighters (1 dwarf cleric/fighter pious templar of Clangeddin, a fighter/master samurai and a single classed elf fighter).

It was the first time that one enemy nearly defeated the entire party single-handedly.

I wish she would have played a more prominent role. (awesome combination of classes)

With issue #140, we're adding a page to the Campaign Workbook. This one's going to be called "Wandering Monsters," and it'll work similar to the Critical Threat except that instead of presenting an NPC, it'll present a single new or updated monster.

Thats an awesome idea!

Dungeon just keeps getting better and better.

I plan on staring a new campaign using rules from HoH and I was wondering if anyone knows any older dungeon modules that would have the appropriate "Lovecraftian" feel to them.
I have pretty much all of the 3rd edition dungeon magazines so I'm wondering more about the stuff b4 issue 82.
Any ideas/ suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.S. I am also using the campaign setting "SpirosBlaak"

Just don't base it on the lame new sheets WotC just posted :/

I agree that the new sheets blow big time. (having to flip pages to get at skills.....who thought of this?!)

I think one of the better character sheets out there is the Iron Kingdoms character sheet.
Has anyone else seen it?

I also have a poster-sized Map of Mystery in the works, that I hope I can persuade Paizo to buy when it's finished. I might give that the deluxe treatment and use it as another example of what's possible when maps and adventures converge into one blended piece of art.

A GIANT MAP OF MYSTERY?!

Ooh, Paizo you have to make this happen. A giant MoM is just what the doctor ordered.
And if were a doctor I'd order you take 2 MoMs, put them in the magazine and call me in the morning.

Speaking of maps, I need a generic Continent map without cities and roads on it that I can download for free, anyone know where I can find one?

FH

How about Chris' website?!

There are a few maps there.

The map of Guildport is used for the town of Dullstrand in my campaign. I use virtually all of the maps of mystery at some point in my campaign...they're so useful.

Where was that one from ? I don´t recall it...

(The first that fails when you get older is your short-term memory, the second is... I forgot...)

Stefan

That little jewel is from Dungeon #85.

My name actually comes from the old Dragon magazine's Elven name generator. (I forget what issue #)

Translated it basically means "seeker of the black fire"

Let me just say that I think you're maps are always awesome and in my opinion they are the best in the business.
Whenever I get a new issue of Dungeon the maps are the first thing I look at.
Personally I have a soft spot for city maps. I never got a chance to use Guildport, however because a friend of mine snatched it up first!
He is about to use it as the focal point for a new campaign.

Anyways keep up the good work, Chris!

I just picked up the Fiendish Codex: Hordes of the Abyss and after reading the introduction it said that the book contained prestige classes. But after flipping through it was apparent that there were none.
Not that this would have affected my decision to buy the book, but it makes me wonder if the classes just couldn't be fit into the book and whether they will ever see the light of day.

Great book, otherwise.

This thread is awesome...

I can't believe someone didn't start it sooner!

I think it's awesome that James takes the time to read and respond to our posts. It's much appreciated.

Now get back to work!

James Jacobs wrote:
We've got a Map of Mystery on the issue's pagination. Doesn't mean there'll be one in the issue, but things are looking good.

Alright, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'd buy a whole book of Chris West's work.

#138 is gonna be a menace, with a sequel to the Styes, a reprint of Mud Sorcerer's Tomb, the sixth installment of Challenge of Champions, a six-page preview of the adventures and art for Savage Tide, and a few other prizes. We'd hoped to put an index in the issue to, but we simply ran out of room, even thought he issue's about 30 pages longer than the normal issue of Dungeon.

Oh man, I can't wait.

Dare I ask about a map of mystery? :)

Those are the first things I glance at in every issue.

That black dragon in Thiondar's Legacy represents the first TPK I was involved in! My character was the last one standing, and I magic missiled the dragon while it had me in its clutches and it died and dropped me and I fell 20 feet and that was enough to my dragon-ravaged character's body to do the trick.

Ahh, the memories.

Plus, there's a dinosaur in that adventure, isn't there? :)

I think theres a few dinosaurs in there actually. (mostly random encounters).

While I havent actually used the adventure yet I plan on converting it for my own group (at 14th level).

James Jacobs wrote:

As recently as the start of this week we'd intended on printing a comprehensive index in issue #138, but as it turns out, we didn't have room in the issue so it got delayed. A comprehensive index of all adventures that have ever appeared in Dungeon, as best I can estimate, would probably take up about 16 pages.

At this point, it's basically a problem of finding 16 pages in an issue. Since we're usually scrapping for one or two... I wouldn't expect to see an index published in the magazine for some time.

How about just an index of the adventures from 3rd edition to now?

Another couple of adventures from Dungeon that I would love to see re-done are Thiondar's Legacy and Divisions of the Mind. (issues 30 and 81 respectively).
Neither one of these made the "top ten" but they are very well done adventures.

I have recently read the editorial in the latest issue of Dungeon and Erik said a little something about "The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb".
I find myself practically salivating at the thought of it.
Can anyone shed some light as to what issue this is going to take place in?

Bill Lumberg wrote:

Anything that causes pain should probably wake a character up. If it is enough to cause damage I would say the character waskes up.

For sounds I think it should require some kind of roll. Perhaps a listen check against a DC proportionate to the volume of the sound. I would penalize the check a bit because sleeping people are not ACTIVELY listening.

Are level drains painful?

Say it's coming from a vampire?

A subject that I feel hasn't really been covered in the rules is what exactly can cause a character to wake up from sleep in D&D. (Other than loud noise or rigorous motion)

For example :
what type of rolls would you give to someone trying to wake up if they are simply being touched?

What if someone is being level-drained while sleeping?

Ian Montgomery wrote:

Is Dungeon 136 going to contain a new MC installment? It would be handy to know in advance, because here in the UK Dungeon is really hard to come by. It's not the sort of thing you find on the shelves of Borders or any other newsagents. You have to order in advance.

Does Paizo have distribution in the UK? Which shops do you supply?

Why not just subscribe, Ian?

I ran The Devil's Box and I have to say that it was one of my gaming groups all-time favourite adventures.

Rich, I would absolutely love it if you would do a follow-up adventure featuring the kobolds. My players loved the two of them!

Perhaps its a few levels down the road and the two have gained abilities and/or classes from races of the dragon.

(can you say "Arch-Duke Chupo" ?)

I wasn't really sure where to put this thread, but anyways here it is....
Does anyone else here think that "CR" is designed really poorly?
I recently ran part 2 of the "Istivin City of Shadows" arc (Spoiler ahead), and my party had a very hard time with a certain Hill Giant Cleric Level 12.
Now the challenge rating he was given is 13. *scratching head*
The Illithid Sorcerer in the Monster Manual had a CR of 17 (old CR + Sorcerer levels)
So shouldn't the Giant's be 19?
The Eldritch Giant from MM 3has a base CR of 15, but the 11th lv cleric has a CR of 19.
How do the developers justify one and not the other?
