Havoc has some point here: Darkness is merely the absence of light. So nothing would contain darkness.
Also, I'm a bit confused here. So if something like balance becomes popular, a Patron is formed. If the Patron vanishes, balance vanishes? That's what Omni says, but Lynora seems to have said about the reverse. Are they both somehow right?
It's starting to seem like I'm just 'picking on' Omni because he 'picked on' me, so I'ma bow out with that question and concurrence. :)

So, I'm looking into getting Avatar: The Last Airbender at the library. I should go for the TV show, right?

(Male Kobold (smurf template) Shaman 7/Fighter 4/Smurf!)

Yes, I'm debating insignificant semantics. I'm a kobold, the little stuff's the only stuff we can manage. :P

I say we kick out the middle states. Then, when they become countries, we can invade them from all sides whenever Americans need to feel patriotic.

You just gave me an idea for this book I've been considering. It was originally going to center around two competent gamers who get stuck in a game with three less-competent gamers.
Now I'm going to have to introduce a second gaming group.
Lobolusk and KaeYoss...consider your hilarity stolen. :)

LOL! If we are playing Pathfinder classes - you are totally right. But I was thinking 1E classes in honor of my 1E rolls and there were no Charisma-based casters back in the day. But, Pathfinder-wise, yeah I'd make this bad-boy a Sorcerer.

Ah, if it's 1E, Erdek will just be a very clever fighter.

I wouldn't call it 'wild'. From what I read, it was pretty even speculation about what would happen with a new edition, and what would result. A good read. It lasted at least two pages, by the way. I didn't read further than that.
And why is "original" in quotes? Was there some actual original purpose I wasn't aware of? :P

EDIT: Also, 'divination' is a school, not a skill. ;)

Sure thing, buddy! :)

Um, no. That's not 'ignoring'. That's 'mocking'. And if he is a troll, it's feeding him.

Oh, and I wasn't referring to anybody in particular. Looks like a few people too many used 4E as an example of WotC's failings, and, unsurprisingly, the 4E-ers retaliated.
I just think this might've gone better if we could leave it at "I didn't like it". :P

Oh, and it's perfectly unrelated. I think the Reavers could wipe out the Borg. :)

STR: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4) = 12
DEX: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1) = 5
CON: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6) = 13
INT: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) = 14
WIS: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1) = 11
CHA: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) = 4

Erdek, half-orc wizard. I'll put the +2 into Strength.
Erdek is a formidable opponent with his punching dagger, fond of enchanting the weapon with True Strike. He's a good ally in battle, but is extremely hard to get along with. Despite his surprisingly high intellect, he enjoys violence and will often pick fights with whoever looks toughest.
This strategy often results in him making use of his other spell, Expeditious Retreat.

Oh, look, it's one of "those" threads...
Lesson learned: Insulting something popular (4E)in an unrelated argument (what this thread was)has a tendency to derail the argument.
Who'dathunkit.
EDIT: In case it isn't clear, I'm not trying to be biting. Just a bit disappointed--Paizonians are really bad with threadjacking. XD

Sorry about the headache, and sorry if my little quotes contributed to it. I wasn't faulting you for my error--I was confused as well, and those quotes were only part of the reason I got it wrong. The rest of the reason seems to involve 'moron lizard dogs'... ;)

I think a "Fixed that for you" can be funny, if not used to do the nearest thing to strawmanning you can call strawmanning and still be mocked.

In other words: If you don't use it in a debate, to make your foe look stupid or to 'correct' him, it's okay in my book.

I'd agree with the OP here. Skewing the system around the wish for the core races to be balanced is just a bad idea. Let the values fall where they will. It'll make it easier to create new races if the old ones are treated as they aught to be, and it'll make a lot of GMs take the book more seriously.

SPCDRI wrote:

Spell like abilities costing 3 in the Monster Race examples is wrong. Daylight is fun, but it isn't worth 3 points. Not even close. That is more of a flavor thing than mechanical thing. If it was a 3rd level Cleric or Paladin or Druid spell that gets a lot of use, maybe.

So the Aasimar is considered as a 13 point guy when it isn't. It is a fair 10 pointer.

I think Daylight is too often underestimated. It has many uses beyond getting rid of magical darkness. Dealing with drow, and other light-sensitive creatures. Removing the tactical advantage of nighttime orc raiders.

I completely agree with this. Way too confusing.
I like Racial Cost.

I don't think we're supposed to post comments on the thread, but the Shambling Dead seem fine to me. I don't know of any actual rule against undead races.

Kobolds:
Yes, there's already a kobold variant here, but that's more of a 'heroic' variant. These traits are based heavily off of the actual kobolds, and keep their physical failures, but I balanced out the fail with some other items. Namely, Underground Sneak and Cave Dweller. I considered one of the race-specific bonuses (the +4 dodge bonus, for instance)and the Swarming ability, but didn't want to directly affect kobolds' combat. They're wusses in a fight, and always should be.

It looks like every player currently involved in the fight has at least a character involved in at least two scenes:
Lynora
Me
Dalesman (counting Fei)
Kryzbyn
Chaos
Dragonborn

Darknlight is the one exception. XD

This. A THOUSAND times this.

The book is just to make it easier to make races. Just because it isn't perfect doesn't mean players are going to be able to create Uber Hulks without GM permission.

/\ It may seem a bit obnoxious, me of all people criticizing your writing, but one bit of advice is to write out the numbers. 'First' instead of '1st'.

Okay, gonna roll to see if Vakkler fired a magic bolt. If a 20, he did. If other, it's mundane and probably couldn't get through the helm.

Close enough, it's a vorpal bolt.

As long as you stay away from the CR 16+ fiends, totally do it man. :P

Oh, that makes sense.

So, we're in a school where the average level is about 16. Anything below that isn't much of a threat.
Better leave the dangerous ones alone.

Though, now that we're on that subject...do these demons realize this is the worst school they could try to feast on? A good number of these 'innocent kids' could go toe-to-toe with Dagon on a good day.
(a good number = a a good number fighting it at once, of course)

(Male Kobold (smurf template) Shaman 7/Fighter 4/Smurf!)

Kinda grasping at straws here, but I wanted Vakkler to do something. It could theoretically work, if Michael doesn't realize exactly what is being mined.

Even though he's currently missing, nobody in the school (including Vakkler and the lycanthrope pack) dares forget Sinh's School Rule #1:

I have another question been thinking on this one a bit. How many champions are their suppose to be in total or is there just a big amount that is uncountable? Asking because it seems every time I turn around I am talking to a champion.

Interesting question!

*Dons professor-style glasses*
*Irrelevant diagrams appear everywhere*
You're seeing Champions everywhere for three reasons:

1. This is kinda the 'Champion boom' right now.
2. Three notable non-Champions--Vakkler, Kitty and Michael--have been gone a little while, and characters like Fieri and Jiminy just ain't been about much the last few days.
3. Almost every player wants to play a Champion. I fell victim to the 'trend' as well, but I blame convenience. Of course, Lynora and Kryzbyn were into it before it was cool. ;P And since a lot of players only have one or two characters...

That's my theory, anyway. It is a bit crazy, yes. Fortunately, most of these Champions are going to die. :)
