Background
The Childhood
Ashebrook-by-the-lake has always been a sleepy little town, surrounded by woods and hills. The halflings love their homeland and pleasant peaceful community. Knottinknott was born 48 years ago into a large sprawling clannish family on the banks of the Lake. Not content with the gentle life, bored by the changing of the seasons and fired by the travellers talk of war and adventure over the hills, he left in his tweens.

The Academy
Not being a strong halfling and hearing that the Andoren Academy sought brave warrior mages, he entered, passing the tests by dint of hard effort. Those few comments about his size he laughed at, after all they were true. But inside "Knotty" started looking for the kind of magic that would make him faster and more able to rely on his wits. Transmutation of his own body and others appealed like no other. Soon Knotty could run faster than anyone, fall further and cause soldiers to grow in battle. Against that he was never one for the flashy pyrotechnics or grave cold magicks, so the halfling mage steered clear of those areas.

The Moonknights
Passing out of the Academy, Knottinknott was assigned to a border patrol. But there were only so many rocks and trees a mage can enjoy staring at. Bored and fed up, he realised that the work didn't suit his talents and he requested a transfer to more dangerous and sly work. Tested and trained, but not found wanting, Knotty joined the Moonknights, a secretive band of soldiers chosen to operate behind enemy lines performing infiltrations, sabotage and kidnapping. Even the occasional assassinations were dealt with by specialists. But Knotty only took part in a few missions before the fateful Major Hoffman incident.

The Major Hoffman Incident
Even to this day he doesn't know the full story. However Knotty and three others were sent into an enemy town to recover documents and return with the missing Officer Hoffman. Supposedly he had been suborned by Matahouri, a female spy after the details of all the current troop movements. He was a logistics officer, responsible for the transfer of all other officers within the Andoren army.

However Major Hoffman freaked when cornered, the girl was missing, so were the documents and although they managed to compel the officer to leave with them, the town guard had been summoned by some Taldoran and the good Major was released. Knotty and his fellow operatives were not and so followed twelve months of prison time, but eventually he was swopped as part of a prisoner release deal, only to find that the good Major Hoffman was actually a hoax to try to trap the Matahouri. A trap which failed.

The Fisherman
Unable to accept the way him and his Moonknights had been treated as part of the hoax, he asked to leave the army. Knotty was tired of the way the military worked and the lives it played with. He wanted that simple life and a chance to rest. He dabbled in magic, he scribed and brewed a bit when he fancied but most of the time, the little reservist just fished.

Of course, several years on, the fish start to look the same, the stories have been heard and the adventure seems to be happening without Knotty, over those hills and far away....
