Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg wrote:
I wait for the hugging and bowing to end and then snort, "That wasn't after bein' a verdict. That was just me opinion." "Ya asked fer a judgment 'n 'ere it is... The lass needs more self control, I warrant 'n she needs a bit o' disciplinin'. Since yer after wantin' 'er to be be'aved better, I don't think it would be a bad thing fer ye ta be teachin' 'er about proper be'aviour. Her punishment is this: as the opportunity presents itself fer the next month she must present 'erself daily fer a lecture from Mannfred on conduct becomin' a warrior in and off the field o' battle." "Harumph," I say as I scratch my beard. "It doesn't sound like much more than a misunderstandin' 'n I'm prejudiced in thinkin' a gobbo prisoner is best killed swiftly. Still, it doesn't do ta be burnin' anything alive iffin yer not in the middle o' a fight. Slittin' the throat or an axe ta the neck is the way ta go. Doesn't do ta make the wicked gits suffer more than necessary." I turn to Yin and say rather gruffly, "See 'ere girl, was ya learnin' not ta just be burnin' things what shouldn't be burnt?" I give the knight a look, "Are ye sure ye are after wantin' a trial or are ye wantin' a judgment. They aren't always after bein' the same thing. A trial needs witnesses 'n a defense 'n a prosicution, 'n depending on the crime a panel o' five or seven o' her peers. 'N... well, are ye wantin' all that or are ye just wantin' somebody ta punish the girl 'n get it over wit'?" To the throne, ignoring its last remark, Spoiler:
"So would you be too upset if I took a sledge hammer to the throne that is sitting in the other spire? The spire would not be collapsing or anything, would it?" Following the throne's answer, I go to see what ideas Orlan has for the construction of a temporary bridge. In the evening, on my own, I journey up to the throne room, have a seat and begin an amiable conversation, Spoiler:
"It has come to my attention that there is a second throne in these spires, one that is perhaps of greater antiquity than you. I don't mind admitting that I have discovered this second throne to be of an inferior moral vein and was wondering if you could aquaint me with details concerning this second throne. Not your personal opinions, mind you, for I can already make an educated guess that the two of you are not bosom laborers. Just the facts." After a hearty lunch, I say, "So, I gather then we are bein' in agreement, Orlan will take the lass and the manlin' back ta Kerrigans. Me n' the other three will be beginin' the exploration o' the next spire 'n work on the manlin's armor 'n seein' about makin' a better bridge over there." "Orlan, I'll be givin' ye a letter afore ye go ta be findin' a way ta send ta Jander'off. There will be others interested in movin' 'ere." I want to analyze the properties of the short sword when I get a chance. Orlan wrote: "So, it might be better if I go. Maybe take Yin and the boy with me? But I agree, the elflin's should stay here..." "That would be the way I was seein' it," I reply, "'N in the meantime, we could be workin' on the manlin's armor 'n fashionin' a bridge ta the third spire. We might be needin' some metal fer craftin', but I was findin' a sword 'n some stones in the blood drinker's lair that might be 'elpin' us wit supplies 'n such iffin' ye don't mind doin' some tradin'." Kamris wrote: "I thought to have garnered some information from them, as they were much intent on me. I suspected that they may have been after any form of elf-kin, so I needed to know if there was treachery afoot. And there was." "Aye, all's after bein' well that's endin' well." "Come," I say, "let's be 'avin' some lunch 'n makin' some plans." Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote: Hru glowers at Orlan and Klyndak and then says loud enough for the men to hear "Don't be talking them out of a fight before I've even wet my sword!" "But iffin' I let ye be killin' them Hru, who'll carry my letters fer me. I'd dearly love ta get some good dwarvish men ta come 'ere from Jander'off 'n dead men carry no tales..." When Orlan is finished, I chuckle again,... "Lads," I say to the soldiers amiably, "This is all too funny. On your side ye be 'avin' a Captain without the wit to recognize an elf from an 'alf-elf. On our side we 'ave a 'eathen priest of Gorum 'n a dwarven priest of Torag. Ye don't want ta be killin' no priest now do ye? The gods are like ta not be likin' it..." I pause for a moment and then continue, "We also 'ave yon lassie who likes burnin' things. Sure, some o' ye might be livin' after she's done wit ye but do ye want ta be takin' the chance its yer boots she be burnin' Then we 'ave Manfred, a goodly knight o' arms who has killed thing's far uglier than you. N' then there's me n' Kamris ta boot 'n ye might 'ave been noticin' I'm after bein' bigger than ye are..." "Now afore all this started I was thinkin' o' payin' ye men 'andsomely in gold ta be takin' a message fer me... It's yer choice... Gold or me 'ammer. Last warnin' 'n a fairer offer ye ain't been 'avin' all day..." Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote: "The elf drew a dagger on us!" says the man kicking a dagger that lay on the ground out of the circle "He's coming with us." I give the man a look and then laugh. "Iffin' he drew a dagger on ye, why is the dagger on the ground 'n not in yer back or in 'is 'and..." I laugh again, my enlarged voice making it louder than normal, " I should be lettin' ye 'ave 'im but I would miss the chewin' out ye would be gettin' when 'e dragged the wrong man in fer the reward. Are ye idiots gonna be arrestin' every soul what got pointed ears 'n then let Kerrigan sert it all out? Rellios do be back at the spire 'n I told yer Captain already ye can't be 'avin' 'im today..." "Ye might be findin' I 'ave strange notions o' what is worthy o' me 'n what is not," I say with a chuckle. Then turning away from the obviously evil throne, I tell Orlan, "Do what ye will wit' it. i won't be 'avin' an ancient lump o' rock tryin' ta manipulate me. Even if it is a mighty magical 'eirloom." Orlan wrote: "This whole Spire be an untrustworthy one," he continues, "With a vampire takin' up residence in it...and likley encouraged by the throne of Soudouteyem itself. Goblin-kin brought ta live here. The blood o' innocents spilt all around. If'n yuh ask me, the whole Spire should be cleaned out and consecrated once more ta the benefactor o' our ancestors...Torag the Forgefather." "I wouldn't be arguin' wit' ye cousin," I say... "So throne o' Soudouteyem, what da ye be sayin' fer yeself?" Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:
"Very well, but don't be a leavin' afer I give ye me messages. I'll even make it worth yer while ta be carryin' 'em fer me." Orlan wrote:
"There be no problem, cousin, these men are after bein' sent 'ere ta check on us 'n maybe makin' an arrest or two, but as they forgot to be findin' out the charges, I told them there was no 'elp I could be givin' them." Deciding the time for whispering is past, I grin broadly and say to the Captain, "Very well Captain, Ye are free ta be campin' 'ere fer the night. Afer ye leave in the mornin' 'owever, I'll be givin' ye some messages ta be takin' back wit' ye. N' while ye can camp out 'ere on the stairs, I would be recomendin' ye be stayin' in the lower chambers o' this spire, out o' the rain 'n snow 'n such." "Now iffin' ye'll be excusin' me, me lads 'n I need ta be doin' a bit o investigatin' above. We were just killin' a vampire 'n I want ta be looking at 'is throne. I seem ta be recallin' it 'avin' dwarf runes on it." Moving up, I say to the others, "Ye wouldn't be believin' the stench down in that fiends lair. That's gonna be a right pain ta be cleanin' out. Now I want ta 'ave a look at that things rooms just a little closer." It is my intention to try and read the runes on the throne and maybe even see if there is anything magical in that room (as last time I was in it I was too busy trying not to die to investigate thouroughly). And later this evening (real time) if I have time and the Captain is willing to carry messages, I'll write out at least two letters for him to carry. Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote: "And, Your Kingship what explanation would you have me give Lord Kerrigan for your forces attacking the Keep?" asks the man trying to hide his condescension. "Me forces," I say in some surprise and then I can't help but laugh. "Ha. That's a good one on me! 'N 'ere I was after thinkin' me forces 'ad all been busy killin' vampires 'n ghosts 'n gobbos 'n such. Ye are sayin' these lads o' mine were moonlightin'?" I pause, "Or are ye trying ta insult me by suggestin' those flesh eatin' savages down 'ill were a followin' me orders when they obviously stole me barge 'n took off river whilst I was busy battlin' beasties 'n such 'n unable ta be mindin' me property." "Course I be thinkin' ye don't really mean any insult 'n yer just followin' orders 'n such." Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote: Klyndak's arrival to the rear of the guards from the keep surprises them and raises the tension a notch. Some of the troops to the rear put hand to hilt as Klyndak comes into view. I squint one eye at the guardsmen as they put their hands on their weapons. "I doubt we're all wantin' trouble," I say and then direct my attention to Manfred, "Whats this all about good Manfred, are these men 'ere ta arrange supply shipments fer us? Clever o' them ta be showin' up afer I even am after sendin' fer them. Just in case I don't get to post later... The plan is to drive something through its heart. Then I will use the short sword to cut off the things head. Rellios can use his fire to burn the body and while it burns, we'll carry the head with us out the other side of the room, where I plan on tossing it away into the bright light of the sun. In the meantime, what's in the bag? :) "That do be an interestin' sight," I say, "He don' be looking like much o' a threat at the moment." I cast detect magic to see what interesting items might be in the coffin. As I examine them, I ask, "Who want's the 'onor o' gettin' 'is 'eart? A hammer ain't after bein' the right tool. I seem ta recall somethin' about nailin' it ta the coffin." I assume my above Arcana check was sufficient to know a few of the details concerning vampires. "Rellios, first be checkin' the coffin fer traps. N' then let's open it up 'n see what's inside befer we are after burnin' anything." Arcana (as relates to vampires): (1d20+10=22) "'N iffin we aren't after disposin' o' this thing right, it'll be comin' back again. 'eart, then 'ead, then burnin'" Kamris wrote: Kamris turns to the others, "Well then we had best be about it. How can we make sure it stays dead?" "I would be after bein' more comfortable in me mind if I was knowin' it wasn't after bein' trapped." I move around and over the coffin and try to determine how heavy it would be to carry up the tunnel with some rope. "Iffin I remember correctly, we are supposed ta perhaps be doin' somethin' wit' its heart. Then we can be cuttin' off it's head 'm burnin' the body."
