If I may ask is there a particular reason certain pictures were chosen? (since I recognise some as named characters from Ap's with full backstories and such)

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Actually I seem to recall Jason saying that they intended the Samurai to be the most historical based of the three classes

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Sorry Seeker I generaly agree with you on a lot of things but on this case I think you are well of the mark. I'll concede that at the moment the Ninja may be slightly better than a rogue (Although I think the Rogue I'm playing In your Savage tide game would wipe the floor with a Ninja). However I doubt that has anything to do with Asian = better and more likely aiming higher and then cutting back (After all remember how over the top the origonal summoner was till they toned it back a fair bit for the final version.)

I feel that one has to put these In context first (spoilers for various products)

Spoiler:

-From "The Witchwar Legacy": Shathbardok, a giant gnarled ice troll cleric of Kostchtchie 15. Challenge rating 18.

Well since the creatures there are men that have been sent by Sharthbardock to reclaim his Torc It makes sense to me that any clerics there would be his followers

-From "The Twicedamned Prince": Lady Kaltessa Iyis, a human cleric of Mammon 10/Diabolist 10. Challenge rating 20.

Who was introduced in an article about Mammon as an example of one of his most powerful followers

-From "Descent Into Midnight": Allevrah Azrinae, a drow cleric of Abraxus 12/demonic disciple 5. Challenge rating 19.

She was a follower of an elven god (cant remember which right now) but when she turned into a drow she began to worship who the drow Worship (ie demon lords) and in regards to what was happening Abraxus seems more appropriate than Lahmashu in this case

-From "Into the Darklands": Kortash Khain, a ghoul sorcerer 6/cleric of Kabriri6/mystic theurge 10. Challenge rating approximately 22.

Who is the high priest In a city that entire population worships the thing. (I do agree this one seems strangely high lvl though)

Also I would probably add in to James's suggestion that they be wearing the type of gear the art shows them wearing

Uh Lethe is my charater just so you know.

Well guess That rules me out then (Have no intrest in doing a Barbarian/something hybrid)

Kevin, that would be totally possible in Sigil. It basically has unimited access to (possible) magical items. I would say IF as a feat would likely be a good idea, since Seph seems to be basically a second character at this point.

Hmm looking at my character I was wondering if I could just drop the weapon finesse feat for IF?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

My plan for a character was to use my Barbarian from the other arena thread (since that one seems to have died) If it is preferred that I make a new character please let me know.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

I said I might be interested in participating

Oh yeah just while were at it Karkalla spends any free time she has trying to make extra ammo for her repeater

Craft weapon check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

she will also take a potion of cure moderate if no one minds.

I just bring this up since the summoned ones disappear after a while.

Are these the same demons from last time or freshly summoned ones?

On a side note may I suggest one of the more knowedge inclined members of the party use the five day storm period to Identify whatever it was that we got off the manservant.

Fiction uses different rules than game design. While it's good to try to restrict gaming fiction to stuff that works under the rules... that's not always possible given the type of story the author wants to write. In fiction, it's easy to make up new powers since the author has complete control over how things are used—he doesn't have to worry with rules interactions that he never thought about. Translating stuff like that from fiction to game rules can be super tricky as a result, and I don't really have the time to tackle that kind of project in the context of a message board post, unfortunately.

Fair enough

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Since you're the one that oversees a lot of the Ap stuff you seem to be the one to ask (Warning Serpent Skull Journal spoilers)

Spoiler:
In part 5 of the Journal the main antagonist Brachante has the ability to draw powers from creatures in his menagerie I was just wondering how someone would be able to represent this within the rules? would it be a magic item? a spell? or a supernatural ability? and how would it work mechanics wise?

Any ideas would be welcome

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

First I would like to say I am really enjoying this Ap's Pathfinder Journal one of the best ones I have read so far. On to my actual question In part 5 of the Journal the main antagonist Brachante has the ability to draw powers from creatures in his menagerie I was just wondering how someone would be able to represent this within the rules? would it be a magic item? a spell? or a supernatural ability? any and all answers or suggestions would be welcome.

I'm sort of interested in this but I have to ask Why no single class full Bab characters are allowed?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

James any chance for the last of the Iconic backgrounds being released soon? (I'm thinking they would fit in quite nicely with the Golarion day stuff) Also has there been a revision on the no advancing the timeline stance? I noticed certain city in the lost city's book's timeline seems to have moved forward.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

What kind of flavour is Pitch Black?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

I would go for Imlek (He seems to me to be the most logical choice since he can essentially just jump the dragon with a limitless army of shadows)

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Novels with the Iconic's in them would be nice.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Way I look at it is a Flesh Golum is when you make a creature with carefully selected parts whilst a carrion golum is pretty much whatever you can get your hands on in ye old Graveyard, (Hence why a Flesh Golum is more powerful)

Okay hp's

1d4 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Yeah I'm beginning to understand what people mean when they say the Paizo site is very unfriendly.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Actually the entire point of the city stat blocks is that they can be run without having the Gamesmastery guide at hand. Now if it were a case that it said for example Eleder see page x of the world guide then that would be different.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Actually looking at Varnhold vanishing (when the town rules first showed up) they do explain what the stat blocks represent. Right there in the Foreword and in it James even says you can run the statblock just fine without the Games mastery guide.

I'm with Seeker, KnightErrantJR and Buglyman on this one. I don't mind APG or Bestiary 2 characters being in an Ap if they are fully stated up but asking people to have to look at multiple things is a bit much. Case in point I was going to ask one of my group to run Carrion Crown and give me a break from DMing but now with this development that is probably not going to be the case (Entire reason he wants to run an Ap is because he does not have to have anything beyond three books).

Also as a possibly silly sounding side note does this mean we will be using power point Psionic rules in Pathfinder now? Since one of the main arguments was they took up to much space to explain and use with this new none core ruling that is clearly no longer the case.

I disagree. The material is available for free on the internet.

Having all of the APs limited to core limits the options in the AP. The builds are always fully stated up, but if it's on the PRD, it's open license and fair game.

Bring on the Inquisitors in the next AP!

Actually my friend does not have internet access which means I will have to print the items off for him which will kind of give the game away when he asks me for x, y and z from whatever book. To clarify if you want to put in fully stated characters and/or monsters from the Apg or Bestiary 2 in an AP then no problem It's when you simply put in the creatures name and say refer to bestiary 2 pg xxx with no stat block that I disagree with.

Little bit of both really

Catfolk would be nice as would Kitsune (although I suspect they are being done for the Tian world guide)

From James Jacobs from his ask him a question thread

James Jacobs wrote:

It's certainly something I'm concerned about. And it's certainly something we're keeping an eye on. We're trying NOT to make too many base classes, but at the same time, folks really get excited about them and thus they sell lots of books, so it's a balancing act.

I think this problem is MORE of an issue for org play, honestly, where anything in print goes and the GMs can't customize options to those they're comfortable with in their home games... but then again, GMs who run org play games probably already know that and are comfortable with it.

In any event, we'll be turning down the base class faucet after the APG. There's only 1 in Ultimate Magic, after all. And beyond that, I doubt we'll be doing much with base classes... subclasses (like the antipaladin) might have some room to grow though, but they're not really base classes as much as they are in-depth archetypes.

Looks like my entire group (Pc's and Npc's) will be making it off the shiv in one piece. Thought the red mountain devil would maul one or two of them but a critical fumble on the creatures part (using the fumble deck) means it brained itself and was knocked out for 6 rounds.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

What's it a drawing of?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

I bring it up every time something like this is mentioned but please give me catfolk (or similar) That is all

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

On a quick side note Ravingdork your an Escaflowne fan I take it?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Well not sure what this adds to the discussion but all pathfinder modules and Ap to date have all Npc's with average hp (generally full hp at first lvl if a Pc class then average) On the few occasions when they did not (ie they had more or less) it normally pointed out it had different than average. An example being the dire tiger from legacy of fire which states...

The dire tiger has an ad hoc +1 bonus to its CR to reflect the fact that it has maximum hit points.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

A'h never mind Ap just went through. Still have extra copies of Book of the dammed though

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

This is probably nothing but when my order went through I got everything except the ap volume. Yesterday I noticed I for some reason had 2 single file copies of book of the dammed in my downloads so I am just checking in case that was supposed to be my Ap volume but somehow got mixed up with book of the dammed.

James do you think it is time the people at home crack open each others skulls and feasted on the raw goo they find inside?

James Jacobs wrote:

At some point in the future, we may build a way to expand those spell's lists; that won't happen in the Bestiary line of books, though, and is unlikely to happen in Ultimate Magic. The summon monster spells work fine as they are, and the're kinda "fragile" so we don't want to stack much more onto them.

A humble suggestion here but Maybe creating a new summon spell to cover these ones instead of trying to add them to current summon monster lists? (call it summon outsider or something to that affect and make it lvl's 1 to 9 like the current summons lists)

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Is it just my imagination or do one or two of the pictures seem to contain some of the iconics as well?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Well not trying to stir anything up but looking at that poll of the 26 or so that voted against the idea only 6 were Venture captains and unless the thread has been edited none of them seemed to make any comments.

Because you need 27-34 just for Str and Con. Being MAD sucks, doesn't it?

Hm... 20 point buy:

Strength 18 (17 points)
Dex 14 (5)
Con 14 (5)
Int 10
Wis 12(2)
Cha 7

Now I pick... DWARF:

Str 18 Dex 14 Con 16 Int 10 Wis 14 Cha 5

Oops I don't need 27~34 point buy -- I just need a single dump stat.

Uh did you by chance mean 25 point buy because that seems to be what the score costs add up to.

To be honest I'm thinking of dropping out (recent events are convincing me my characters play style may not suit the group.) So if you want to put Xanda in to replace Majet go right ahead.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Actually I would say the rule would still apply since the second sentence just says spells and does not specify the type

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Actually Ogre is right as per the share spells ability

"The summoner may cast a spell with a target of “you” on his eidolon (as a spell with a range of touch) instead of on himself. A summoner may cast spells on his eidolon even if the spells normally do not affect creatures of the eidolon’s type (outsider). Spells cast in this way must come from the summoner spell list." So as long as the spell is on the summoners spell list he can use a wand of it on his Eidlon.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

Actually I believe Master work could represent something along the lines of a weapon being perfectly balanced.
