Kessel, or Kes as he likes to be called, never meant to be stuck in the city. Originally from a wandering Shoanti Tribe he had always planned his life around the idea of being a nomad for as long as he lived. Things changed when he decided to spend a couple of weeks in Korvosa.
While staying in the city, he began to have an intimate relationship with a pretty barmaid by the name of Taliana Rasolin. He truly felt a connection to the woman and she delayed his stay for several weeks. Then his stay would be delayed permanently when she came confessed to him that she was pregnant with his child. Honor was not a priority to Kes, but even he could not bring himself to abandon the woman with his child growing inside her belly, and so arranged to make a permanent move into the city.
Things went downhill from there. First the couple fell heavily into debt. Kes had never really nailed down city life, and his trouble with the concept of finances led them into hot water. A powerful gang began to harass Taliana and himself as the day of birth grew near.
The day arrived with both joy and tragedy. Taliana gave birth to a beautiful little girl, but perished from the exertion of childbirth. Kes was crushed, but if there is one trait that defines Kes it is perseverance. He picked up his shattered emotions, named his daughter Lenna Taliana Bargone, and moved on with his life.
The debt he was in was handled when Kes offered his services to the gang as an enforcer to pay them off, as long as his little girl was taken care of it didn't matter to him what his work entailed. He soon gained a reputation for his unwavering nature and some began rumoring that he was so tough that even death would have trouble coming for this one.
His arrangement worked out for years, with Kes eventually paying off his debts. Kes continued to work for the gang as it had become a life he was used to. This did not sit well with his then 7 Year Old girl. Their ensuing argument was hear by half of old town, and she said things to him that cut him more deeply than she, or even he at the time, knew “You are a monster! “ “The men you hurt have children just like me! You only care about you though!”.
Kes left his home in a bad mood the next day to continue his work for the gang, and upon returning home that night found his home empty. He frantically began searching for Lenna, but could not find her anywhere. For days he ignored his duties for the gang and began to question neighbors, friends, anyone who might know something of what happened to Lenna.
Then the gang came calling on him and ‘Politely’ asked him to give up this stupid quest of his and return to work, because if he didn’t, his life could get a whole lot worse. Kes ‘politely’ punched the head thug in the face. The following skirmish was quick and bloody leaving only Kes alive.
He continued on his trail of investigation but has only managed to turn up one thing, a name, Gaedren Lamm. Despite months of searching, he still hasn’t tracked down the despicable lowlife, and finding a safe place to rest is becoming more and more difficult as his former friends inside the gang hunt him down every chance they get.
Kes won’t give up though, he never does.
