Background
Kess's family died when their home was set ablaze by goblins when she was but a child. Since then, she has always had a fear of fire. Years later during the infamous attack on Umok from the Eyegrease tribe of goblins, Kess had been unable to save another gnome who was trapped in his burning home due to her fear. Although Kess fought bravely, she couldn't face her friends and neighbors after the attack, most of whom shunned her. Soon after, she left Umok embittered and wracked with guilt.
She eventually made her way to the coast heading for the open sea, away from Goblins and their fires. She's come to Port Peril to hire herself out as a deckhand for any vessel that will take her.
