Dungeon Master

Greetings you four. I'll be taking any lengthy questions about rules or the game here.

Also, please wait to post in Gameplay, I'm waiting to hear back from Gwath on some final things.

Dungeon Master

Greetings.

Firstly, I must ask that you DO NOT post in the Gameplay thread until I give permission to do so. Please wait for me to set the scene.

Secondly, check the Campaign Info tab for information on the world your characters live in. The information available is common knowledge for even the lowliest peasant in the realm.

This Discussion thread will be where we talk about questions about the rules, or have a lengthy discussion out-of-character. When you post in Gameplay, I ask that you do so in-character (save for single questions in the [ ooc] blue font).

Let me know if you have any questions.

I had an idea for a homebrew rage power, and wanted to see what you guys thought:

Cool sounding rage power name (Ex): Once per rage, if a barbarian takes damage to a physical ability score (Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution), he may exchange each point of ability damage for 1d6 hit point damage. A barbarian may opt for a partial recovery of the ability score for less damage. A barbarian can only apply this rage power to one ability score per rage. This rage power costs a swift action.

Example: Gartok the Berserker as a Str 22 (while raging) and at 51/57 hp from a few zombies he had to deal with. Presently, he is hacking at the necromancer. The necromancer Bestows a Curse on Gartok, and the barbarian takes 6 Str damage (Str now at 16). At the beginning of his turn, Gartok can use a swift action to (1) trade the 6 Str damage for 6d6 hp damage, or (2) trade less ability damage for less hp damage (such as 3 for 3d6).

Gartok has had enough. He converts the 6 ability damage to 6d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 4, 5, 1) = 22 hp damage. It hurts, but now Gartok can keep on doing what he's good at: breaking things. [/example]

Not sure if this rage power should apply to ability drain. I just wanted to check and see if I was missing something about this that was OP. I know it's a little weird because hp is an abstraction of health, and suddenly deciding that getting stabbed through the bicep is only going to affect your general well-being instead of how hard you hit can be a bit wonky. Maybe I'm over-thinking it.
Maybe it could even lead into a rage power progression that more or less gives a meat version of Lesser, Standard, and Greater Restoration? I don't know. What do you guys think?

Dungeon Master

It is the night of Year’s Turning, and the festivities are in full swing here in Kiffport. The streets are bustling with humans and halflings, with the occasional dwarf, half-elf, and half-orc mixing into the crowds as people dance, drink, and shout. On the road nearest to the coast, one side keeps three inns, with a cathouse and warehouses beyond that. On the other side of the road, one can hear the rocking of anchored ships at the docks and shipyards. Two of the inns are cramped with raucous patrons, but the third and furthest inn, though it appears open for business and cheerfully lit, no one seems to be inside. An external lantern spills amber light over a man wrapped in a dark cloak leaning near the door, his arms moving to keep warm against the cold. A smoldering pipe basket protrudes from his hood, with intermittent puffs clouding in front of him. He appears to be waiting as a very inebriated celebrator shuffles toward the door of the third inn. The cloaked figure holds his pipe as he addresses the drunk, who lazily stumbles in another direction. The regularity of the smoke puffs resume, and the smoker shifts his weight restlessly, his hood pointed to the docks and the shore.

As far as you can tell, these three inns are the closest to the docks.

SO. What do you do.
