Kelindra thanks the woman as she hurries off. Then says to her companions, "Lord Mayor? Perhaps we should see what this festival is about. Any holidays coming up? None to Corean, I'm sure."

"Not the friendliest place I've ever been to. Say, Kelindra, you're pretty charming: you want to try drawing some of these folks out?"

Kelindra blushes. "It's worth a shot."

Kelindra adjusts her holy symbol to Corean so that it is clearly visible outside of her tunic and chainmail. In her most authoritative voice, she says to the first woman who passes by, "Excuse me ma'am. May I have a moment of your time? My companions and I are interested in the near-by cave system. Is there a scout or explorer in this town? We are also interested in news of recent events."

Diplomacy check [1d20+6] = 25

"Hmm. Not much coming in or out."

The big ranger nods toward the distant chimneys.
"Let's see who lives yonder, then we should retrace our steps and figure what else is down there at the other fork however many wheels past."

"Good idea, I'm right behind you."

"Don't say that. We'd be in a lot of trouble without your healing skills"

Kelindra looks surprised and then embarassed, but finally she smiles. "Thank you, Gin. Just a moment of weakness. I wouldn't have missed teaming with all of you for the world."

Kelindra looks at her longsword, as if it is somehow at fault for her lack of martial skill. She shakes her head and then sheathes the sword.

"What on Ghelspad are these things?" She stoops down to take a closer look, touching the creature, and attempting to lift up metal bits to see if there's any flesh underneath. "We all probably would have been better off if I'd stayed home and been a midwife," she mumbles to herself.

Kelindra's eyes moisten with tears of frustration. "Corean help me!" she cries.

Cast Bless:

Once again, Kelindra swings, this time with a little more frustration.

Attack [1d20+3] = 4 (critical miss)

"Again, are you kidding me?" says Kelindra as she wades into battle. "Excuse me gentlemen."

*mumbling under her breath* "Get out of the cloisters Kelindra, have an adventure, see the world...yeah, I'm an idiot."

Attack: [1d20+3] = 8
Dmg: [1d8+2] = 6

"Well that's different. Any of you care to guess what those are"

"Whatever they are, they aren't natural," says Kelindra, overstating the obvious. "Are they golems of some kind?"

Kelindra draws her longsword, but doesn't attack unless the dogs attack first.

"I'm for that logic, Gal. Let's go right."

"Agreed."

"I didn't kill us all by opening the door, so I suppose I'll take the lead in the passage unless there are objections."

"I'm right behind you."

Kelindra scratches her head. Now that she thinks about it, she hasn't seen Ivo for a while.

"Hmmmm, you're right."

Pavel lets out a low whistle to get everyone's attention.

"Hidden door. Don't know if it's trapped or not, but you may want to stay clear and be ready...."

He opens the door.

Kelindra winces as Pavel opens the door. Though she's spent many years in the cloisters, she's learned from her history teacher that many old tombs have all manner of devious and possibly deadly traps.

"Er...", says Kelindra self consciously, "Not to question your judgment, honestly, but um...perhaps we could have Ivo examine any more doors before we open them. Just in case I mean. I'd hate for anything bad to happen to you...us...happen to us." Kelindra shuts up, blushing bright scarlet.

Inside, the ruin appears to be an ancient temple. The walls are covered with engravings of strange formless beings torturing and destroying the same person over and over again. Over every scene, the Nameless Orb of Belsemeth hanging in the sky.

Cult artwork perhaps?

Kelindra was out with the flu the day they taught about torture cults.

Pavel wrote:

"Thanks.", grumbles Pavel, "Your confidence is very reassuring."

With one last look to confirm that everyone's ready, he pushes the door open.

Gin smiles at the guards as Pavel pushes the door "You'll have to excuse him. Him doesn't get his morning gruel he get awfully cranky"

Kelindra grips the hilt of her longsword, just in case.

"We'll hit the smith first thing, make sure you're stocked. Wouldn't mind hitting Tanil's shrine and making a quick prayer, but there's no need for everyone to come for that. In the mean time, I should pay you all out from what I got of those goblins' equipment; we'll need to be prepared. Got to make the right rounds and clear it with the guard, first, but all signs point us to that excavation."

He divides up the gold in his pouch: 375, minus a few coins for room and board for five, divided by five... so about 73 gold coins a piece.

He drains the last of his ale in a huge gulp and sets it down, stifling a belch.

"In the mean time, we've got music and ale. I think there's only one thing missing..."

The towering ranger stands up and extends a hand to Kelindra.

"Would the fair priestess deign to share a dance with this mud-dwelling bush fighter?"

Grinning and blushing, Kelindra graciously accepts.

"We'd best get in touch with the local authorities to let them know we'll be looking into that dig at the center of all this."

"Good idea. Should we find Soll? I hope nothing has happened to him."

"We have been getting a lot of reports of attacks," the commander says. "Do any of you require care?"

"I believe we are all well sirs. I thank you for your concern. What was that hideous creature? You say you've seen more of them?"

Kelindra is hoping they are talkative. If they take the bait, so to speak, and seem willing to talk, she will offer to buy them a beer in the Tavern and discuss these recent attacks. If it appears they are busy and want to move on, she wont bother. Also, she stays close to Pavel, so these guys don't get the wrong idea. She wants to chat, nothing else.

Kelindra is about to agree with Gin's sentiments, but then catches herself. She has spent all of that time in the cloisters learning about the teachings of Corean, history, and diplomacy. Every once in a while, she ought to put some of those skills to use.

Diplomacy [1d20+6] = 17

"Thank goodness you've arrived. That strange, flying creature up there attacked us from the sky. We would never want to disturb the peace, but I'm afraid our lives were in danger."

Ivo's stone bounces off the creatures hide. With a might flap of it's wings, the creature shoots skyward, perhaps to find easier prey tonight.

Kelindra takes one more swing with her longsword.

Gal bites the creature in another sensitive spot, however, this bite doesn't ellicit the howl of pain that the last one did.

As the creature turns to Gin, Kelindrda raises her longsword again, in an attempt to bring it down on the top of the creature's head.

Kelindra staggers back, such that the beast's horn has run her through. But with some surprise, she finds herself whole. She swings her longsword at the titanspawn.

I'm pretty sure he jumps in front of Kelindra, ready to take the full brunt of the gargoyle's attack....OK, just kidding

Suddenly the creature turns as if reacting to some unseen stimulus. Letting out a screech, it dives straight for Kelindra.

That gets her attention. "Hey, what the..."

Kelindra reaches for her longsword. Initiative = 8

"What is it?" asks Kelindra curiously. Seeing Gal's and Pavel's responses, she decides to be a bit more cautious than usual and does not jump up and down and point.

Kelindra looks up with curiosity. Used to a cloistered life, her instincts and reflexes are a little dull.

1d20+4 = 23

Kelindra sits with her companions and eats ravenously. She pauses only to lick her fingers between bites.

"Sorry, I don't know where my manners are. I didn't realize I was that hungry. I don't care what anyone says about iron rations, they just don't taste like real food."

"Well, we oughtta look into the university, the shrines and the temple since that's where the attacks are going. If you want to sit down and eat first, I'll go with you. "

"Yes, I'll head to the temple after supper. I do speak the language."

"Better than nothing" he says to himself as he enter the establishment.

Kelindra's stomach growls. "Bread, cheese, stew, and ale. I may have found Heaven."

How much for a moderate meal and a reasonably clean sleeping location?

It seems like everywhere you go in town, people are telling the same story, creatures coming out of the darkness and attacking indiscriminately. Or at leat that is what it seems like. Once you have a chance to meet back up and discuss it, it seems that the area around the temples, shrines, and the university have experienced the most attacks.

I suggest we get a good night's rest in town and start our investigations at the temples and shrines in the mornings. I'm concerned about Sol's wound and would like a chance to heal it after I meditate on Corean's word in the morning.

Who else is still wounded? Gal? It might be worth another channel positive energy before we turn in for the night

"Well... Corean's the official Mullis Town religion, but, well, they don't really have a church, at least they didn't the last time I came through. This is a frontier mining town, after all, so a lot of the citizens don't really hold with the Avenger. There's a shrine over that way, I think and there may be a priest in attendance. There's also a church to Tanil on the outskirts."

Kelindra listens with a disapproving frown. She's about to comment on the obvious lack of devotion of this town, but stops just before the sanctimonious words can leave her mouth. She realizes that she's been spoiled living the cloisters for the last few years and that hard working folk don't have the luxury of building large temples and meditating on the word of Corean. They have to grow food and catch fish for people like her.

It is a sobering moment of introspection, and keeps Kelindra quiet for a while.

Kelindra is just going with the flow here. She is outside of her area of expertise.

At an appropriate moment, she will ask Pavel where the church to Corean is. She may be able to learn something from her brethren.

Gin stretched and begins packing his gear. He looks over to Kelindra and gives a smile "You look better this morning"

Kelindra grins. "Thanks, I feel better."

Pavel will roll the equipment up in a few blankets to evenly distribute the weight. Either before the group sets out or during the day when there's a minute to stop, he'll ask if anyone wants anything or if they can tell if something's magical.

Kelindra will detect magic on the whole lot.

Kelindra returns to the group. Her manner is calm once again. "I see that most of us are still beat up. I have four more opportunities to call on Corean's energy before I completely exhaust his good will for the day. Let's gather round and I'll try one more time. I think I should save my other attempts in case something else happens to us, but its no good us walking around wounded."

Assuming everyone is willing to gather round in the healing circle, Kelindra will channel positive energy once more:

After that, Kelindra will check each of the bandages to make sure they cover the wounds but are not too tight. She will also make sure the wounds are relatively clean and check for any signs of poison or infection.

All of this will take time of course. If the group decides they need to move on instead of staying, Kelindra will stop what she's doing, pack up and get ready to move.

"Equipment's here if anyone wants to salvage it. Do we give this one a merciful death or keep him alive in hopes he'll come back enough to talk one day? I think I already know what to do, but let's at least get a consensus."

"Merciful death," says Kelindra. "All right then Gal, come here." Seeing Bran stair, she grabs his wrist. "No, you stay. The rest of you come closer as well. We may as well heal as a team."

Hoping that she has not tired Corean's compasion with her incessant prayers, she once again calls up on his aid.

Channel Positive Energy - 2 points. That's twice I've used this today

"My healing abilities are mostly exhausted, although I may call upon Corean's aid and energy a couple more times today."

Kelindra checks Bran's wounds one more time and then gets up, clearly agitated. "I just need a minute, if you'll excuse me." With that, she walks a short distance away and takes a few deep breaths.

Gal wrote:

At Pavel's curse, Gal turns around and sees the fleeing mage. His face a mix of rage and surprise he yells at the ranger "You're letting him escape to bring reinforcements?!"

"Daylight's coming, they're not..."

After Gal charges off.

"Oy. Fine. Kelindra, do you think you can get Assia back on his feet before Gal gets back? I don't want him getting any "survival of the fittest" ideas about his best friend there."

"Yes, I think so." Kelindra once again invokes the power of Corean.

CLW [1d8+1] = 7

"Bandits, bandit lords this days getting better and better. Must be pretty desperate too. Not much we have in the way of treasure."

"Treasure can mean many different things to many different people, or even titanspawn. What is it that your master considers our 'treasures'?"

Kelindra will stay with Branomonrik and bind his wounds.

Frowning in concentration, Ivo swings again.

Warhammer Attack (1d20+2=10)

"I so hate being woken out of a deep sleep". "It takes me forever to wake up" he says under his breath.

If Bran is not unconscious:

Kelindra rushes to Bran's side at top speed attemping to skewer the monster in front of him.

To hit: [1d20+1+1] = 17
Dmg: [1d8+1+1] = 10

If Bran is unconscious:
Kelindra rushes to the necromancer's side and falls to her knees in fervent prayer, oblivious to the battle around her.

Cure light wounds: [1d8+1] = 2

Kelindra swings again with her longsword.

to hit: [1d20+1+1] = 6

Her swing goes wide as the creature manages to dodge.

Pavel throws Kelindra a rakish wink and a grin from the other side of their opponent.
"Thanks for the good vibrations, darlin'."

Even in the heat of battle, Kelindra is unable to stifle a grin.

Both Pavel and Soll seem to look considerably better. Unfortunately, it also has the effect of healing the brute Kelindra was fighting as well.

Ah, Kelindra's a moron. Who knew?

Kelindra gasps as she sees Pavel hit. Her first instinct is to reach for him and staunch the flow of blood from his wounds. As she begins her fervent prayer to Corean, she remembers her duty is to protect all of her companions. She shifts her focus to Corean's will and away from her own.

Channel positive energy, healing 1d6 hit points to everyone in a 30 ft radius:
1d6 = 5

Kelindra will attack, using the rolls in previous post. She will approach one charging and get right in its face.

Attack 21, dmg 7

Pavel kicks off his bedroll and rises, grabbing his sword.

"Gal, Kelindra, what's going on?! What do you see? Everyone, up and at 'em!!"

Kelindra draws her sword and readies for battle. She positions herself next to Pavel, ready to flank anything that attacks him. She also looks around the camp to ensure that Gin is awake and ready for combat. Since he was sleeping, if he appears to Kelindra to be only half-awake or not ready for battle, she will shift her position and move to defend him.

OOC: Gin is probably fine, but Kelindra likes to act like a protector and big sister. She's annoying that way.

Initiative: [1d20+2] = 10

If the creatures charge:
To hit: [1d20+2] = 21 (natural 19, +1 strength, +1 longsword)
Damage: [1d8+2] = 7

"Interesting day so far. Not often you're attack by raiders. I wonder what they wanted"

Kelindra shakes herself out of her introspection. "Well, they obviously didn't want to talk. Strange their just attacking out of the blue. Couldn't have been bandits as I've never met one willing to take his own life if he failed to get his mark..."

Pavel's arrow flies true and slams into the rider already wounded by Gin. The impact of the shot knocks him off of his horse and the man falls to the ground, twitches for a second, and then lays still.

Kelindra is kind of useless without a missle weapon. If she can attack with her longsword, she will. Otherwise, she'll hang back and watch for anyone who needs healing.

To hit: 1d20+2 = 10
Dmg: 1d8+2 = 9

Kelindra will cast Bless, giving a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and saving throws to her companions.
