(M Human Rogue 4)

Kelborn whispers: "I heard it as well." He does not sheathe his sword.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Moving to flank around the surrendering kobold, Kelborn lets his blade do the talking. He strikes with his longsword, hoping to finish the beast before it changes its mind.

Attack and Damage (1d20 9=13, 1d8 3=6)
Sneak Attack (2d6=7)

(M Human Rogue 4)

16 hp over here! Thankfully, I'm a PF Beta Rogue and actually have hp to begin with, so it's not so bad. :)

Taking the advantage of flanking with a dwarf with a large hammer, Kelborn stabs at the kobold in front of him, realizing that if the creatures aren't stopped soon, it won't be long until he's overwhelmed.

Attack and Damage (1d20 9=11, 1d8 3=7)

Sneak Attack (2d6=9)

After swinging wildly due to the pain in his leg, Kelborn begins thinking of a tactical retreat.

5ft. step back.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Kelborn drops his bow for now, quickly skirting the fray to find an opportune spot to strike at the reptile-dogs. He draws his longsword as he moves, and stabs at one of the creatures.

Kelborn will attempt to tumble around the kobolds to set himself up to flank with either Hru or Klyndak. If he can't get into position this round, he'll still tumble to move closer to the fray.

Acrobatics (tumble) (1d20 8=24)

Attack and Damage (1d20 6=23, 1d8 3=11) (Note: there is an additional +2 to hit if he is flanking)

Sneak Attack (2d6=8) (if applicable)

Those are some pleasant rolls! Let's hope this keeps up!

(M Human Rogue 4)

Kelborn will take time to hide in the shadows and aim his bow at the leader. Just before he looses his arrow, however, he hears the kobold speaking about some sort of bargain and he holds, ready to release it at a moment's notice.

Sorry for the delay, guys, real life has been killing me this week!

Stealth (1d20+8=22)

Kelborn readies an action to fire at the sorcerer if he sees the beginnings of a spell being cast.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Kelborn will slowly sneak towards the kobold with all the bangles and arcane gadgets and, silent as a whisper, loose an arrow in his direction.

Initiative (1d20+7=27)
Stealth (1d20+8=18)
Attack and Damage (1d20+6=13, 1d6+3=6)
Sneak Attack (2d6=8) (if necessary)

Wow, I wish I had rolled attack & damage first! Anyway, the attack ain't that great, but hopefully the creature's still flat-footed/doesn't see me. Or even both! That would also be great.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Klyndak wrote:

When the door opens, I peer in cautiously.

"Stealth or Force," I ask quietly, "Rushin' forward or movin' cautiously? Meself - I say we rush 'em. Only down the side corridor..."

"I'm not one for rushing, but I'll do my part, don't worry." With that, Kelborn slinks into the shadows as he enters the spire.

Stealth (1d20 8=24)

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

Kelborn does not find any traps and succeeds in picking the lock ... eventually. Opening the door reveals an empty corridor.

This is the map from their previous explorations, Kelborn.

You continue to hear the *CHINK*CHINK*CHINK* sound from down the corridor. Klyndak recognizes this sound as the unmistakable -- to a dwarf's ears -- sound of metal pickaxe on stone. It is coming from around A3-4/B3-4.

Do we enter from the top or the bottom of the map?

"Job's done, gentlemen." With that, Kelborn gestures toward the entrance.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:
Do you want to make an open locks check on the door?

Somehow I missed the doors...

Kelborn will take his time to make sure the door isn't trapped either, and then proceed to finangle the mechanism until the door unlocks.

Take 20 on both checks, 25 Perception, 30 Disable Device (to open the lock). Note that I made a mistake last time, I actually had a search of 25... Got confused with the new skills!

(M Human Rogue 4)

Perception (1d20 5=7)

Well, I don't think Kelborn can discern that noise... :)

(M Human Rogue 4)

"It's clear. I suppose we'd best get started winching up this gate."

Kelborn then turns to look at Hru.

(M Human Rogue 4)

"Alright, this will take some time, but it's best to be safe rather than sorry." Kelborn begins to look for traps around the porticullis.

Take 20 on Search check, for a total of 30.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Klyndak wrote:
"Well, I could be climbin' all the way around the tower, but I would rather be 'avin' you lads wit' me. I suppose we should be expectin' the porticullis ta be trapped. Ideas?"

"Trapped, you say? I can find and take care of it if I have some relative calm around me. I suggest we get started as soon as we can, no?"

Does Hru take the boots?

(M Human Rogue 4)

Hru Gorumgrag wrote:

" These miserable wretches ruined my boots an' I want 'em to know that their course of action has only one end result. Come to think of there ARE many better choices for makeshift boots...hmmmn" Hru trails off holding 2 fresh sheafs of kobold hide in one hand and the other scratching his chin as he stares at the darkened chasm, where, somewhere far below creatures hunt and prowl in the blackness.

I want a whole pimp suit of exotic monster hide

"Um. Or you could just take these," Kelborn says as he removes his boots and gives them to the half-orc. He then reaches into his own pack for an extra pair of boots (of a clearly higher-quality make) and puts them on his own feet.

"Consider it a token of gratitude, and a way to start our partnership along on the right foot... so to speak."

So now Kelborn is wearing the boots from his Noble's Outfit.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Sorry 'bout that, busy couple of days!

Kelborn simply continues to fire arrows at the kobolds.

Attack & Damage (1d20+6=23, 1d6+3=6)

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:
If you move towards them, you will be moving across a rope bridge. You would not be able to cross it at full speed without making an acrobatics check. Moving it safely will make it a full round of movement.

Hmm. I've had enough bridge incidents with this character already. I'm going to go for the safe route. No sneak attack, it is! 5ft step back and shot as above.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Kelborn to Klyndak: "At least two kobolds on the way, wake up! Uh, lord Klyndak."

To Hru: "Yes, cut those kobolds down! I'll be with you in a moment."

Kelborn draws his bow and steps back and approaches the kobolds so that he can have a clear shot.

Is this a surprise round? If so, I move 5ft back and shoot. If it's not, however, I move 30ft. closer to get in range for sneak attack.

Attack & Damage (1d20+6=14, 1d8+3=4)

Sneak attack, maybe?

Sneak Attack? (2d6=8)

(M Human Rogue 4)

My initiative: 1d20 7=19

(M Human Rogue 4)

Kelborn lets out a high-pitched shriek, then coughs, and yells in a slightly-too-deep voice: "THE KOBOLDS ARE COMING!"

I'll roll initiative once I get home and have access to Invisible Castle.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Klyndak wrote:
Hru can have first watch. Kelborn can have the middle and I will take the last. That way I can be preparing spells sometime during the watch duties.

Kelborn grumbles something about having his sleep interrupted in the middle of the night, but quickly acquiesces.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Klyndak wrote:

I shake, with a gruff smile. Then leading him inside, I continue the conversation...

"Good, good. And are ye after bein' a family man? Iffin' the worst 'appens, I 'ate ta think ye were 'avin' a wife 'n kids wonderin' where ye were. That is... are ye after 'avin' a clan we should be knowin' of, a next o' kin?"

After a short moment of hesitation, Kelborn responds: "No, I've no family. But I don't intend to meet Pharasma in these spires, either."

Klyndak wrote:
"As fer room 'n board, we're after stayin' in this 'ere spire. That one ye just crossed from has been cleansed o' monsters but there's still a bit o' filth thats needin' cleaned out. I won't be 'andin' ye a mop just yet though as we 'ave the small matter o' kobolds. The next spire over is mostly cared fer n' we 'ave the little vermin in the spire over. Course their seems ta be a wee nasty thing above them that we're lettin' loose in the mornin'..."

"Letting loose? I think I may spend the first day observing how you operate..."

(M Human Rogue 4)

Klyndak wrote:
"How does a fair share o' whatever we be findin' sound? As there would be three o' us, that would be a third."

"That, Lord Klyndak, sounds to me like a proposition amenable to us both." With that, he extends his hand to the dwarf, waiting to shake on the deal.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Hru Gorumgrag wrote:
Hru tries to read over the dwarf's shoulder, but Klyndak seems to shift slightly so that almost preturnaturally, a part of his back pack, or crossbow, or quiver, obscures the writing. Hru looks around quizzically as if searching for unseen pixies before turning back to the king "Well! what's it say? After a brief pause he turns to the newcomer "You wouldn't happen to be cobbler?"

"A cobbler? I'm sorry, I rarely busy myself with that sort of work." he speaks, slowly, as though to help Hru understand.

Klyndak wrote:
"Well sir," I say to the messenger hopefully as I watch Rellios preparing to leave, "I don't suppose you have any talents at working with traps? We have a slight kobold problem."

"Ah, yes, lord, I am exceptionally skilled at that form of work. However, being so skilled, my expertise is not without a price..." Kelborn clears his throat and waits patiently for a response.

(M Human Rogue 4)

"Hello, Lord Klyndak." he speaks quietly, as he gives a curt diplomatic bow. "I am Kelborn Nissenthrot IV, and I've come along a lengthy and arduous path to deliver you this letter. May it be of use to you." Kelborn hands the letter over the Kylndak.

After Hru stands tall, Kelborn looks him up and down. "Greetings to you as well! I see you've... done some work in these spires. I can, uh, see Gorum's influence in you."

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

Elsewhere in the spires, Rellios sees Kelborn hanging by his ankles. He stifles a laugh but then acts quickly. Tying a rope off to the stone doors, he weights it with a pouch and begins to swing it towards Kelborn. Finding it too short, he retracts it and begins to add another rope.

The bridge is too heavy for one person to push into place, so he isn't going to try that.

As he extends the rope he asks, "If we hadn't killed the spiders in these spires, I'd say they caught a fly. What's your business here, and how came you to be so neatly wrapped and trapped?"

Grunting, Kelborn responds: "In short, I'm here to deliver a letter. But I haven't been able to feel my feet for about five minutes now, so could we perhaps speak more on the subject once I'm free from this damnable trap?"

He grabs Rellios' rope and attempts to pull himself up.

Climb (1d20 2=21)

Climbing his way up to the other side of the bridge, Kelborn then sits down next to Rellios and begins untying the rope around his feet. After he is finished, he looks up to Rellios: "It was a devious trap that got me into that precarious position. I'm lucky my feet got caught up in it, or I'd be a collection of goo on the forest floor right now."

Bluff (1d20 1=9)

Afterward, Kelborn unties his silk rope from this end of the bridge, coils it, and curses at it as he puts it back into his pack.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Upon seeing a shape approach on the bridge, Kelborn stops screaming.

In a hoarse voice: "Um. Hello."

Klyndak wrote:
*"How did you get yourself down there!?" shouts Rellios to the strange swinging man. "Hold on while I get some more rope!"

"Oh, it's, uh, a long story. Yes, please fetch the rope."

Mumbling to himself quietly so Rellios can't hear:

Spoiler:
"Yes, of course I'll hold on. As though I'm deluged with options..."

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:
Rellios got a 16 + 9 = 25 on his perception (sound) check. I figure that's enough to hear a guy screaming about a 150' away. (BTW, I actually tested this on the weekend at Pink Lake but I didn't have a spire between me and the person screaming.) I found it easy to make out specific words even.

Interestingly enough, it's much easier to carry sound over water than it is any other type of terrain. It has something to do with the way the sound waves bounce off of the surface of the water; the sound diminishes less quickly. Cool phenomenon.

Remember, what happens in the spires, stays in the spires.

** spoiler omitted **

Tarren:

Spoiler:

Doing as any other right-thinking individual dangling from a dangerously loose rope by his ankles about 500' above some hard surface would do, Kelborn begins to scream for help.

Loudly and nigh-incoherently.

Whee! :)

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Letting out a yell as he free-falls after slipping on the rock, his scream stops abruptly as the rope pulls taut. Feeling the rope burns across his chest and waist, as well as the current pain in his ankles, Kelborn can't help but be thankful that he decided to spend the extra gold on the silk rope. He then reaches up to grab the rope currently saving him from an untimely doom and make sure that it is tight enough to support him as he attempts to climb back up.

Climb: (1d20+2=8)

Gotta love these rolls.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Seeing as Kelborn's much better at jumping than he is at climbing, I'll try to go that route.

Finding something solid, Kelborn ties his rope to it, and ties the other end around himself. He breathes slowly for a moment, mentally preparing himself for what he is about to do. "Here goes nothing."

He breaks into a run and attempts to jump the 20' chasm.

Chasm jump: (1d20 8=10)

Just before the jump, he slips on a loose stone and loses much of his momentum. As he is falling, Kelborn's mind can think of only one thing: did I tie this rope tightly enough?

That was a fantastic roll. Here's hoping I don't break records for fastest character death ever.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren:

Spoiler:
After waiting a bit for a response, Kelborn speaks aloud: "Well, it appears I'll have to take care of this business myself." He looks across the gap, scanning the area for something solid to anchor himself to with his grappling hook.

(M Human Rogue 4)

Tarren:

Spoiler:

Taking in the view around him, Kelborn sighs as he notices the large gap where a bridge used to be. "Things can never be simple, can they?" he mumbles to himself. He takes in his surroundings, seeing if there's any other way across, as well as attempting to gauge how long the gap to the other side is.

He yells: "IS ANYONE THERE?", hoping for a response.

How large is the gap? From the images I estimated 50-60ft. Is this correct?
