WoW is good if you like a relatively simple fantasy fix. EQ2, while much more intensive on your hardware, is good if you want a more 'realistic'-looking game and don't mind that it can quite possibly take until the dark side of forever to get levelled up, and that there isn't nearly enough solo play content for when you can't find a group. EVE Online is an awesome, absolutely gorgeous game, but the learning curve can be steep and the first few days are likely to feel boring as hell if you go the 'safe' route of mining ore to buy a better ship. Guild Wars is a good game if you don't have a lot of cash to spare; you can go buy the game and never have to spend another cent, and it has three (soon to be four) interconnected story arcs, solo play or multiplay depending on how you group (each group gets their own instanced version of the explorable sections of the world). D&D Online has not exactly done much to appeal to me, I am afraid; the graphics were about as cartoony as WoW but as lagged as EQ2 when I tried it, and there is a definite need to group that can make it impossible to play at times. Ultima Online is... Decent, I guess. There are other servers set up that you can use the UO client to connect to and play in customized worlds. City of Heroes/Villains is good if you just want a heroic/villain fix and don't mind the fact that the storyline quests tend to follow the Typical Hero Path even if you're technically an evil villain; I think the worst I did as a villain was rob a bank. There are a plethora of free-to-play games like Maple Story and Trickster Online, but I'd only suggest those if you have a raging obsession for anime/chibi characters of disgustingly cute design.

I ordered W1 as a part of my Gamemastery Subscription, and recieved it a week ago. However, today I recieved another copy of it, to my startlement.

Was I charge twice and sent an extra copy by mistake? Am I somehow double-subscribed to the Gamemastery line? Was there a database error that resulted in it turning up twice?

I am extremely puzzled, and hope that this can be resolved quickly - the last thing I need is two subscriptions for the same product draining my bank account.

I'll be wandering by as Kassil, Khirsah, Khellias, and Shadowkassil. Yes, I'm a multi!

And I've ascended a handful of times as Kassil, so if people want any suggestions feel free to ask me.

Admittedly, I'm a lazy multi. But once my laptop is back in my hands and I get an expresscard modem for it, I will be less lazy with it more than likely, simply because I've swapped my MMO fees to Pathfinder/GameMastery, and so it'll have to be either Guild Wars, some free-to-play game like Trickster Online, or KoL. And KoL is so much more amusing...

I maintain that they stole the five-element scheme and the Legendary Mithril Dragon monster from my efforts.

And then had the gall to rough up the grammar and spelling to make it look like one of their high-school-dropout editors wrote it!

If that's the case why not just buy a ream of paper, they're like 10 bucks for a quality thicker paper and then just print out the SRD. It's not like Paizo can include any monsters in the adventure that's in the MM but not in the SRD. So you have all the rules and monster stats and don't have to worry about giving your monies to a company that bothers you so much.

Because the hardback covers are actually an invaluable thing, between where I live and the people I game with, and even places that offer to bind for you have difficulty with that. Otherwise, within a year that $10 on paper will escalate to about $150.

I may be an irate, grouchy old grognard (since original D&D - back when there was no Good and Evil!), but I'm not a stupid one, or a spendthrift.

Have you checked your local post office to see if it got stuck there? I've had a few orders that were supposed to be delivered that the local people out here decided wouldn't fit my mailbox, or that they just decided they couldn't be arsed to remember to put in the deliveries.

And the USPS has a gift for being erratic, slow, and inefficient, which is part of why I am loathe to send anything via them; there's no telling if anything I send might get delayed or lost in the process, and the attitude I've encountered with it is generally a 'So what?' mindset.

I find it strange that other table top RPG companies can put out multiple editions of games and no one complains at all. The fans pony up the cash and on we go. WoTC does a 4th edition and sight unseen everyone is down on "The Man" for making a buck and putting out a new edition.

Now for myself I would have liked about a 10 year gap between editions but I'm willing to look at the 4th edition Players Handbook in May of 2008 and see if I want to make the switch. Maybe it will be better. If not I can still play my 3.5 or 3.0 games with plenty of supplemental material.

What do you think you will do?

As has been stated: most other game systems, when released, assume a significant level of compatability with former editions, not an attitude of totally rebuilding everything into a new shape. Example is GURPS; when they went from third to fourth edition, I can still go tag my shelf full of supplements without any real trouble. A few point costs may be different, but the rules changes were updating and tweaking problems with the former set of rules rather than deciding that everything (and the kitchen sink) needed rebuilt.

Moreover, what has me ticked off is that WotC flat-out lied to the gaming populace, insisting that 4e wasn't even in the planning stages while they were steadily reeling licenses back in as they expired. And now? Hey, guys, we're just about ready to release 4e!

...I've said it in a different thread, but it bears reiteration: if Paizo goes to the 4e OGL, I'll buy the core books. And that is the *only* money WotC is getting from me in regards to 4e, end of story. And the only money from my gamer friends, from what we've all discussed. I do *not* like being lied to like this.

ok, so W1 has made it to Germany almost a week ago, but hasn't made it to CT yet(its now been 11 business days, where D1 took 15)? I may have to break down and open the PDF even though I told myself that I wouldn't do that for the modules

I live in NV. What shipping method did you pick?

Osirion (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Tales Subscriber)

I just want to chip in here with my opinion and vote.

The way that WotC essentially lied to everyone leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. At this point, I'll likely finish up collecting books that interest me, and support Paizo by way of their GameMastery/Pathfinder products. If Paizo swaps over to 4e, I'll pick up the core books, and snag a copy of the SRD for reference, but that is all that I intend to let WotC have of my funds.

Like a lot of others on this board, I do not appreciate being lied to by WotC; even if I recognize the nature of it as a marketing move, to preserve their sales as long as they can, it still is an insult to me, and to all the others who believed what was said, ordering materials with the belief that they would be supported for some time to come.

So, then... I speak for all of my gaming group when I say that I'm with the guys at Paizo, whatever the future holds, for as long as the products released are the quality we're getting today.

I got my copy of W1 on Saturday, the 18th, and the pack of item cards was definitely a cool thing to go along with it. I hadn't particularly been interested, given the randomized packs, but I can see now how they might be of use, and a cool thing to deal out at the table in the place of a handful of generic descriptions.

The module itself is awesome as well, given that this is something I think I won't worry about having wrecked by player accidents...

Thanks, guys!

Unless I'm the GM, in which case it's more like 98% of the time. ;)

Which, combined with the predictable Evil Fiend GMs, leaves the average at 3%.

Me, there's even odds, depending on where the players are... I find it far more entertaining to see how many people I can leave traumatized by half a dozen kobolds.

Yeah. I often say "we split up" as a joke when confronted with a creepy and potentially dangerous scenario. I think if I seriously said, "Um, we split up and we take off our armor" I would expect most DMs to feed me my own @ss on a ciabatta.

Any player of mine foolish enough to go haring off alone will be kobold food in short order, with one exception; if they seperate as part of a plan to set up an ambush, thry have a fighting chance as long as it isn't shot to hell by an idiot's maneuver (such as one legendary session where a 'bait' character decided that since he was bait, he should be drawing attention and began blasting on his signal whistle as loud as he could, drawing an entire kobold tribe from their above-ground encampment...)

Rule #1 of Adventuring: NEVER split the party.

Rule #2: Innocent waifs are innocent maybe 3% of the time.
Rule #3: Ways for party members to use spells like expeditious retreat are vital if the group is stupid enough to split up. (I don't need to outrun the werewolf, I just need to outrun you.)
Rule #4: Sending the self-sacrificing noble heroes first will let the rest of the party survive, particularly if the cowardly rogue is in the back as a clueless shield for the casters.

Osirion (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Tales Subscriber)

I'm certainly game to give it a shot; this an an MMO or two will pretty much be the extent of my gaming expenditures for quite a while if this pans out...

Osirion (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Tales Subscriber)

Dark Tower Comics and Hobbytown, on Sahara and Decatur, carry gaming materials; Dark Tower also has tables in the back that you can schedule for gaming purposes. Also on Sahara, farther toward the freeway, Kool Kollectibles has a fairly large supply of gaming materials, but to be honest I don't care much for the people running the place.
