Karnot's father Merton and mother Alaria were hard-working, poor sailing halflings. Many boat crews liked using halflings due to their size, nimble fingers and feet, and general positive attitude. Many others didn't like them, cursing their "thieving ways" and "tricks tongues." Karnot, luckily, was born with both of those bad traits.

Growing up on the dockside is tough. Hard men and women make their living doing back-breaking work for little pay, looking forward to rum, elfweed, or a little opium to deaden the pain later. That's where people like Karnot make their own living; on the margins and in the alleys, carrying bags for one dealer or pouches of coin for another. Do it too long, and you end up hooked, dead, or locked up. Halfling luck held out, and Karnot's dealer boss got the pinch just minutes before he was scheduled to meet up. Happy with the coin, he skipped out on seeing the coppers and got his own crash pad.

Unfortunately, those sorts of supply chains don't start on the street. And the people at the top don't like it when several hundred gold go missing, especially right after one of their dealers gets locked up. There's only so far you can run and stay in the city, and only so long you can lay low, after all. Even if you are a fantastic hider, like Karnot.

Things being what they are, he faced a quick end at the bottom of the bay, but for one fact. While locked in chains and with a sack over his head, the plucky little thief managed to pick the lock and slip the hood. Rather than try to run, he offered his services in recompense. Impressed with his gall, fearlessness, and natural skill, Karnot was invited to join the crew provisionally. His "apprenticeship" looks to be a difficult one, especially under Targon the Quick.

Description Karnot stands 3'3" tall, with a slight but wiry build, and weighs about 35 pounds. He wears his light brown hair short and typically pays little attention to it, which results in a messy mop head appearance. Brown eyes and a tan, wind-beaten skin appear slightly in contrast to his youthful smiling face. He wears simple but well-fashioned clothes in dark grry unless on a crowd-picking job, where he wears a specialized child-like smock with numerous pockets, hidden folds, and concealed openings to aid in his pickpocketing.
