Maybe the DM will be kind and allow a retrocasting on the werewolf. ;-)

No need, we can put it down to pressure and Kajetan not knowing the spell as it is off a scroll.

Sorry for my absence, stared a new job, add in pre-baby nursery preparation and I am short on time. The new baby will be here on Wednesday 16th unless it comes earlier, so please do not let my absence slow the game.
For the record I would of summoned the swarm on top of the werewolf, moving closer if required.

Kajetan continues concentrating on the swarm, cursing himself for summoning it in no mans land. He takes a slow cautious move towards the well, hoping to add himself to the bait list.

Giant spider reflex save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

The spider deftly avoids the weaving and tangling weeds and advances on the wolf.

Melee bite +2 (1d6 plus poison) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

1d6 ⇒ 4

Hissing and clicking, it attempts to sink its fangs into the fur.

Not sure that beats the AC or does enough damage to actually be able to poison the werewolf.

Kajetan retrieves another scroll from his back pack and starts another full round spell cast.

Casting Summon Swarm.

Kajetan completes the last few lines of the spell and points his hand towards the cottage door. Where he gestures a small spider springs into existence, it swells and grows rapidly until its brown bulbous body is as big as fat sow, its spindly multi-jointed legs defying logic that it can support its weight. Going to assume you allow PC's to control their summoned creatures.

The spider springs into action, raising its hind quarters into the air it deftly weaves an intricate net of webbing and with a flick of its rear four legs launches it at the shaggy wolf.

Special Attack web (+5 ranged, DC 12, hp 2)
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Giant Spider..
Web rules..

The web flies true, entangling the wolf beast, and the spider quickly scurries to close the distance, its fangs clicking threateningly.

Kajetan sighs in relief that he has at least brought his companions time and then racks his brain for his next coarse of action.

DM Mothman wrote:

Kajetan can complete the casting of his summon monster spell and may undertake another action.

Kajetan, if you prefer I will allow you to delay the spell completion – basically hold that last syllable as a readied action to complete the spell at a time of your choosing.

I will take that option.

DM Mothman wrote:
What are you planning on summoning? If you have in mind something from a source published after the Core Rule book, that would be appropriate to the level of the spell (based on the type and CR of the creatures on the summon monster 2 list) I am happy to consider it.

A giant spider, poison and web sounded good options. I only ever use the core rule books, while I have other rule books, we do not allow them in my weekly game and I carry that on to my on-line games.

Also you quoted my question on False life, but did not answer it.
I am officially unemployed for the first time in my life, on the scrap heap at 40 years old. Now to find a job in these tough economic times.

Sorry for the AFK, in the process of winding my business up, so free time is at a premium.

Spells cast: Chill Touch, Glitter Dust, Spectral hand and False Life.

Question 1: Has it been longer than 4 hours since the start of the ogre fight, if not then I at least have false life still running.

Round 1: Kajetan shudders each time the door crashes and racks his brains for a way to help his companions, removing his back pack he grins at Nicolai, only his teeth showing beneath his hood, "don't want this slowing me down if I have to run." Opening the pack he removes one of the ceramic tablets and casts a light spell, trying to shield as much as the light as he can. "kind of defeats the idea of hiding" he states as he illuminates the hiding place.

Round 2: Kajetan starts muttering the arcane words of power, tracing the shapes carved into the tablet with his fingers. The cold ground leaching the warmth from him.

Start a full round action to cast summon monster 2.

I need to assess my spells left as well.

Kajetan does not look too confident about facing a were creature. He decides mentally that Nicolai might be a good person to stand next to and tries to position him self as close as possible to the dandy.

Wait for the evil DM laugh..... Muhahahahahahahahahaha........

Profession (farmer or shepherd) or even a Knowledge (nature) check might reveal the answer.

Knowledge (Nature) : +9 (+5 Int, 1 rank, +3 class skill) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Kajetan muses the fact that the moon is very full and is about to say as much when the scream cuts into his thoughts. "How far away are we from the destination of your friend Nicolai?" he asks ominously, "the moon is full and he was researching curses".

I can not remember if I said it in character, mused about it in ooc or never actual put it in words, but I had a feeling, from the books he had read, that Stephan (sp?) was cursed and I am pretty sure turning into a big hairy wolf was one of those curses.

I have this clip stuck in my head...

"It makes no sense to stake the sheep out like that....." Kajetan muses, "no shelter for them, no common food trough. They can't be diseased, so why do that? It is almost as if they are bait to keep something out..." Kajetan then notices the fact that the cottage windows are boarded up from the outside, "or to keep something in." He looks at the others, "be careful, boarding windows from the outside only keeps out mindless creatures from entering, but they do a good job of keeping something inside from getting out." Kajetan involuntarily finds himself looking upwards to check the phase of the moon.

Kajetan's elevated spirits over finding another tomb of power quickly erodes as the darkness closes in. He pulls his hood up over fully over his face and hunches his shoulders as he silently follows the others. Lost deep in his thoughts.

Keildrithe Oldsun wrote:
Perception: 14 + 7 = 21; Survival: 12 + 6 = 18. Who is noting the loot on their PC sheets?

Am I the only one who can use the scrolls? If so I will take them. If some one can use them I will pass them on after I copy them into a book. Some one else should note down the other stuff as I am encumbered all ready.

Perception +1 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Kajetan is too lost in the scroll to listen to talk of carrying more loot, he carefully stows the scroll away and follows the others.

Kajetan looks over the scroll and wine bottle with reverance, treating each like delicate flowers as he lovingly inspects them, for the moment unaware of the cold or his surroundings.

Spellcraft: +12 (+5 Int, 4 ranks, +3 class skill)

Wine bottle: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

Scroll: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32

Kajetan lacks any practical ways of aiding his colleges, so he stands around looking as useless as he feels. "Maybe the giant-kin will have something of use?" he comments, sounding more desperate than hopeful. Moving over to the nearest of the corpses he intones words of power and then begins to search the body, his nose wrinkled up at the disgusting body odor of the unwashed.

Cast Detect magic and search the ogres.

A smile spreads across his face as Nicolai and Keildrithe both pour power into the fallen Laithe, knitting his broken bones and closing wounds. The smile soon falters as he is reminded of his own short comings and the young wizard starts muttering to himself, chastising his lack of real power.

DM Mothman wrote:

Yes, you could move up next to Keildrithe and just catch the ogre in a cone without getting Alton (who is on the other side).

Against his better judgement and feeling like this may be the worse idea he has ever had Kajetan struggles through the snow to close next to his companion Keildrithe. Once there he mutters some arcane words of power, finishing with a flourish of his hands as he throws a small amount of colored sands towards the surviving ogre. Instantly the air is filled with a blinding kaleidoscope of clashing colors.

Cast Color Spray, DC-16 Will negates.

Kajetan shields his eyes from the display and hopes the ogre is not so lucky.

Can Kajetan get close enough to get a 15 foot cone off with out hitting any of his allies and preferably with out putting himself at risk of an AOO?

Nicolai Auf derMaur wrote:
"Kaj'! Use your rainbow beam spell! Keep them off balance! I'll get Laithe out of the way!"

Kajetan momentarily takes his eyes off the ogres to mumble "they are too far away, they need to close and get away from Laithe."

15 foot cone, so I need to wait until I can see the whites of their eyes.

Kajetan groans audibly, not sure of what to do under such brutal destruction, his floating hand seemingly useless against the monstrosity. He looks at the others, hopeful for some courage or resolve, but the stunned looks on their faces reflects his own.

Feeling useless, he attempts another touch of the hand at the ogre that just felled his companion, waving it around him like an annoying wasp, hoping that the dimwitted brute will waste time trying to swat it. His other hand dives into his accursed back pack to search out one of the ceramic tablets stored with-in.

Touch attack +3 for 1d6 damage and one point of strength damage (Fort DC-16 negates the strength damage).1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

1d6 ⇒ 5

Where the hell did my post go?

Grr I attacked and not only did I roll a one for the attack, but I also rolled a one for the damage.

Kajetan curses, the foul words sounding out of place from the young scholar. He glances at the others, drawing courage from their determination.

Could we commandeer a boat and all use it to get there our selves. Assuming the party and crew can all fit on one boat. Also assuming we can crew it successfully to our destination?

Kajetan answers by moving forward and casting another spell, a blue glow encompasses his hand and spreads to the spectral hand floating besides him. He flicks his wrist and sends the ghostly hand speading over the snow to touch the closest of the ogres.

Cast Chill Touch and use spectral hand to deliver the touch (range 150 feet).

Touch attack +3 for 1d6 damage and one point of strength damage (Fort DC-16 negates the strength damage). 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

1d6 ⇒ 1

Super DMing, having the monsters retreat. I kind of feel guilty pressing the attack.

It was a Pathfinder update to limit the spells power as an offensive spell.

Remember blind ogre gets a save each round to shake off the blindness.

Kajetan calls on the forces of necromancy once more, pulling a spectral ghostly hand from his own life forces, he winces as he feels the numb coldness left behind by it.
Hand has 1d4 ⇒ 1 hit points.

He then staggers 20 feet closer to the group.

With neither of the ogres approaching him, Kajetan decides that he will never have a better opportunity to catch both the giants now they have kindly grouped up. He chants a few arcane words and throws a thimble full of ground mica into the air. It swirls through the air before exploding over the ogres head, like a silent firework. Not an overly religious man, Kajetan still finds himself silently praying that both the ogres get the dust in their eyes.

Glitter dust.
DC: 17 will save.

He fumbles to stagger to his feet as he watches the scene unfold before him, if he heard Nicolai, he does not acknowledge it.

I messed up my redied action, it should of been "if one turns hostile" not "if one comes towards me". So Kajetan can not act until next round, unless one of them turns to Nicolai.

Kajetan continues to watch in morbid fascination as the one of the ogres continues to move. He switches his attention to that one, tensed and ready to cast glitter dust if it gets too close to his companions. continue my ready action.

Kajetan softly curses himself for not having memorized invisibility today as the sound of the Ogres gets louder. He racks his brain for options and decides his best option is to hope that the bard wins them over, not feeling optimistic he also readies glitter dust to cast if one approaches him directly.

Merry Christmas to you all.

(I will need a stealth check from Kaj)

Kajetan is awesome at Stealth checks...

Stealth (dex+1, Medium Encumbrance-3)
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6

Kajetan crouches down in the snow, but tumbles forward onto all fours as his back pack over balances him. He curses softly as a cloud of fine snow crystals blossoms into the air.

Sorry for the absence, real life kicked in again.

Surprise Round
Kajetan shudders as a cold feeling runs down his spine and a premonition of danger flares in his mind. He tenses, momentarily catching sight of the giants before his view is obscured by the fog. Nicolai's touch is enough of a sign and he moves slowly off the side of the trail, hoping that the dark shape that looms ahead in the fog is a boulder and not a giant.

Single move is 10 feet for me in the fog, so I will move looking for cover.

Round 1
Kajetan peers back, only just able to see his companions despite the short distance he has moved.

Will: +4(class) +1(wis) = +5 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

For a few precious seconds he freezes as Keildrithe's voice invades his mind, holding him in place, but another part of his mind screams, this is not for you, and he continues his search for cover.
Single move of 10 feet in search of a hiding place.

Kajetan then calls on the powers of necromancy, pricking his finger with a pin and painting a cross of blood on his face. Immediately his life force is bolstered by the touch. Nearby, a small hardy winter weed pokes through the snow, already battered and frozen by the cold weather, a miracle of nature surviving the bleakest of locations. The weed crumbles to dust as the spell is cast, Kajetan lets a small grin cross his lips at the powers at his command.

Cast false life.
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Am I right that I am still 4th level, or did I miss leveling up somewhere? I seem to remember being told to, but lack of sleep is preventing me being sure.

Kajetan trudges alongside the others in silence, his hood pulled up and a scarf wrapped around most of his face. He curses under his breath several times as he stumbles where the others walk comfortably fully aware that if it was not for Alton and his short legs, it would be Kajetan that was slowing them down.

He worries about his companions moods, but lacks the social skills to comfort or sooth them. His mind keeps drifting back to Pharris and her sudden departure and he curses softly to snap himself out of it.

Perception take a 10 11
Survival take a 10 11

Kajetan looks on uncomfortably, unsure what has gone on, but worried that it may spell trouble for the party. He stands there looking awkward waiting for a few seconds before he ducks into his cell to start packing.

Kajetan really, really dislikes the idea of leaving the warmth of the monastery and its large library. He thinks back to the cold nights sleeping under the open skies, the snow, the mud, the dangerous animals and his evil back pack. Kajetan groans out loud, then clamps his mouth shut as he realizes he has. Part of him wonders if he could take the vow and hide out here in safety until the winter passes. Shaking his head to shed the illusion of safety he trudges off to pack his nemesis the back pack and get ready for more cold nights.

The parts relevant to the adventures are probably about 20 pages long, mostly notes and simple charcoal sketches of the creatures they have met and fought. It omits the names of anyone who has helped them. Would probably take a set of scribes all day to transfer.

Kajetan listens to the abbot with interest, greatly intrigued by the talk of the Order of Truth and wondering if it required one to be a follower of Arton to become a member. His reflective mood changes to one of nervousness when he hears the tale of Stephan. Deep down inside him, the story rang some alarm bell, but he could not place a finger on why.
Why am I now expecting Stephan to be infected with Lycanthropy?

Kajetan stays a moment longer with the Abbot, "I wonder if perhaps you would like one of your scribes to take a copy of my journal while the storm lasts? It is not poetic and much of it is clouded by my own feelings, but it does detail all that we have encountered in the past months." He tries to choose his words carefully, unable to meet the abbots eyes, "I also feel that the Inquisition will one day catch up with me, when they do the book and the information with in will be lost for ever."

Kajetan, although uninjured, feels the need to sample the healing waters himself and is pleasantly surprised by the effects on a none believer like himself.

He gets out his journal and makes a rough outline sketch of the cave and waters to be filled in at a later date. Lost in his own thoughts he takes no part in the decision to inform the Abbot.

Kajetan murmurs, "Perhaps the brother should be interred near to this well, if it has the powers he was told of, then he was visited by an angle and should have all the honor your religion can bestow upon him."

He watches with interest as the waters are offered to Nicolai.

Kajetan heads off to change his damp robe before anyone notices and almost misses the revelation of the location of the healing waters. He hurries after the others, a nagging doubt in his mind that their actions at the monastery are going to put the inquisition back on their trail and give them more ammunition for their crusade.

Kajetan stands around looking equal parts shell shocked and embarrassed, glad that both the menace is dead and the poor lighting hides his damp robes. He watches the events unfold before him with morbid curiosity and waits for an out come.

I have a few more uses of Chill Touch, so I will keep at it.

Kajetan curses as Abel resists his touch and swishes his hand directing its spectral counter part to attack once more. Smiling in grim satisfaction as the spectral hand makes perfect contact.

Touch Attack (STR -1, BA +2, Spectral Hand +2, +1 Inspire Courage) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Shame, a 20 on a roll that can not benefit from it. Abel must make a successful Will saving throw (DC-16) or flee as if panicked for 1d4 rounds + 1 round per caster level (1d4+4).

Kajetan tries to touch the undead monk again.

Touch Attack (STR -1, BA +2, Spectral Hand +2, +1 Inspire Courage) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

That looks borderline, if a 13 touch attack hits, then Abel must make a successful Will saving throw (DC-16) or flee as if panicked for 1d4 rounds + 1 round per caster level (1d4+4).

I took a readied action, so my initiative is now Abels plus 1.

Kajetan flicks his hand forward and the ghostly hand rushes over and attempts to touch Brother Abel to deliver its spell.

Touch Attack (STR -1, BA +2, Spectral Hand +2) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

That looks poor, what a surprise.

He growls deep in his throat as the attack is errant.

Kajetan continues to concentrate on the Undead Monk, waiting for a development. His brow twitches as he stares ready to unleash his spell at the slightest hostile action.

Kajetan hesitates, not sure if the diplomacy will work, he suddenly becomes aware that he has wet the front of his robes and shifts uneasy as he waits for the dead lock to be broken. The floating ghostly hand quivers besides him as he concentrates on Brother Able, waiting for the once living thing to make a move.

I will ready a touch attack with the spectral hand if Brother Able turns hostile again.

Kajetan suddenly feeling a lot braver as the bards words wash over him, he casts another spell, as he does a ghostly glove forms over his hand, he removes it and throws it into the air, where it floats and bobs beside him. The dark glow encompassing his other hand suddenly appears dripping from the spectral hands fingers.

Cast Spectral Hand.

1d4 ⇒ 1

Kajetan winces as part of his life force detaches and powers the ghostly hand.

Mothman:

Spoiler:
Bites count as bludgeoning, piercing and slashing attacks under pathfinder rules, see the table under Natural Attacks:

Universal Monster Rules

I had assumed it was silver or some other DR when Laithes Magic bite had not done full damage, but I am wondering now if it was a hangover from old 3rd addition.

Ah sorry, I thought this was round 2, so I had another round of fear. But Kajetan is not brave, so a third round sounds fair.

Some where in the back of Kajetan's mind a little voice starts screaming for him to move, to act, to do some thing, anything. The voice grows louder and suddenly Kajetan realises it is him that is screaming. With a primal yell of his own Kajetan calls on his powers and training to cast Chill Touch.

Can I make some knowledge rolls to see if I know what particular form of Undead this is?

Knowledge (Arcana): +15 (+5 Int, 4 ranks, +3 class skill, +3 Skill Focus Feat) 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Knowledge (Planes) : +12 (+5 Int, 4 ranks, +3 class skill) 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Knowledge (Religion) : +12 (+5 Int, 4 ranks, +3 class skill) 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

And my awesome run of rolls continues... average is now 8.3 on D20s.
