Thanks for the clarification, Rob! That makes sense.

I did a search and did not see an answer to this question, so I figured I'd try starting a thread on it.

The Witchguard Ranger archetype looks like a lot of fun, but the wording on the Defend Charge ability seems a bit off. It currently reads:

Defend Charge (Ex) At 4th level, a witchguard forms a bond with a spellcaster he has sworn to defend. Once per day, this bond allows the witchguard to spend a move action to grant an adjacent spellcaster a +2 dodge bonus to AC and a +2 circumstance bonus on concentration checks. At 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter, these bonuses increase by 2. The bonuses last for a number of rounds equal to the witchguard’s Wisdom modifier (minimum 1). At 4th level and every 3 levels thereafter, the witchguard can use this ability one additional time per day. This ability replaces hunter’s bond.

As written, it sounds like the ranger is actually intended to receive this ability at 1st, not 4th, level. Thoughts?

The new new $80 backer level that was announced on Monday reads: "You get a print and PDF copy of Freeport: The City of Adventure Third Edition and no other rewards."

That same day you announced the new 6-part adventure series that will be free to all backers of level $30 and up.

Will $80 reward backers get access to these adventures, or do they count towards the "no other rewards?"

I really hate quoting myself, but there's been quite a bit of discussion since my question got asked, and as someone sitting on the proverbial fence, the answer is one which could put me over the edge on the side of backing.

Anybody know the answer to this?

True. This was originally announced as an April release. Not sure how someone could have expected it in March. Regardless, the book has long since been sent to the printer, so I don't foresee the release date getting pushed again, barring any issues with the long boatride back from China...

I'm with you, Heine. There's a couple Kobold Press releases I've been holding off on. Might be time to stop holding...

Also, it just so happens that one of my weekly groups met for our session on GM Day, and it was the session in which it ended with me rewarding them, in epic, plane-shattering fashion, with a bonus ki-related feat (thanks, Legendary Games!), increased point-buy (from 20 to 25), and their first Mythic tier!

Been awhile since we have had someone do an adventure for an AP who has not before..

Wasn't that basically the story of Reign of Winter? Quite a few of the authors were on their first AP adventure.

Reign of Winter had 1 new AP author: Jim Groves.

The Mythic rules WILL be finalized "in-house" by the time they are finishing up volume 6 of the AP. They'll just be on their way to the printer, not yet released to the public.

Personally, I really enjoy how the Map Folios are now. Particularly with recent inclusions of the parchment-style, player-friendly maps of the Shackles and Varisia. As a GM who is about to be using the Crown of the World poster map as a handout, I just wish you guys had started doing them one AP sooner!

I would have no use for the map folios if they were gridded encounter areas. I play in three different groups (with almost entirely different players in each one), and none of them use miniatures.

Too bad there isn't developer support for an "Module 7 of 6" extra module, which would be optional for the AP suscription. I'd certainly pay for that, one thing which still cheeses my players off is that their characters don't go to level 20 anymore. ^^

My fingers are crossed that they may start experimenting with this in conjunction with the new modules format. Obviously, they wouldn't be able to do them all out of the gate, and they wouldn't want to monopolize the module line in that way. However, I think it would be a wasted opportunity to not at least give it a go on some of the more popular APs. Talk about sales potential!

I've been chickening out of entering for the last few years, and so I'm pretty proud of myself for finally getting up the courage to enter. The fact that I was in the Top 89 list that Clark posted was pretty mind-blowing to me, as it showed at least some folks thought that I did a decent job.

That all said, I obviously have a ways to go yet. Chiefly, I think I may have just played it a little too safe. I like my item and am proud of it, but I definitely don't think it's Superstar. Anyway, here it is. I'd be happy to answer any design questions you have, and I look forward to you all helping me to improve.

Orator’s Torc
Aura faint transmutation; CL 4th
Slot neck; Price 8,500 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
Each end of this otherwise smooth, metal torc culminates in a small sculpture of a human head, mouth open and facing the other as if in conversation. The orator’s torc enhances the wearer’s vocal prowess, including volume, power, and charm, particularly when in front of crowds. The torc grants the wearer a +1 competence bonus on bluff, diplomacy, intimidate, and perform (oratory) skill checks. This bonus increases by 1 for every 5 people beyond the first that the wearer is addressing (maximum +5). When the wearer uses diplomacy to shift his audience’s attitude, he can shift it up to three steps rather than the usual two.

In addition, the increased power and volume granted by the orator’s torc can elevate its wearer’s commanding presence on the battlefield. When utilizing a supernatural or extraordinary ability that requires the wearer’s allies to hear him and to be within a specified range (such as certain bardic performances or the cavalier’s tactician ability), that range is doubled for the duration of the effect.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, eagle’s splendor, honeyed tongue; Cost 4,250 gp

This and The Baleful Coven are the only 2 adventures that Legendary Games has released in support of JR so far, and they are both excellent.

Meditations of the Imperial Mystics and The Way of Ki are both supportive on JR as well, though they are not adventures (still great and recommended though).

The thing is, though, this isn't an RPG book. It's an art book, and as such, it should be enjoyed in the manner that the artist desires.

Take a look back up at the product description. This, and the rest of the Shattered Star volumes, have been sanctioned for PFS. The chronicle sheets and rules are at the bottom of the product description. The new hardcover, anniversary edition of Rise of the Runelords has also been recently sanctioned.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I'm actually all set with the templates though. I've already made some characters and templated creatures with it. Awesome work!

My issue is I am trying to make a CR 20/MR 10 Balor. So, I added the balor into the program, then I selected mythic from the template area and upped it to 10 ranks. After that, its hit points jumped up and I was able to add the correct amount of feats and ability increases, but I could not figure out how to add the actual mythic abilities (from the various paths) that also come wth making a mythic version of a creature. In this case, I nees to choose 11 for the balor (since it's MR + 1).

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Tales, Card Game, Comics Subscriber

I might just be dumb, but I can't seem to find how to add the mythic abilities to a creature when making a "mythic creature." I found how to add the feats and ability point increases, but not the mythic abilities themselves.

I think there are several issues with regard to expectations for this book. When I read the product description, I do get the feeling that this book caters more to players who want to play actual vampires than it does players who want to play dhampirs. One example of this is that 3 out of 5 bullet points are about vampires, 1 is about dhampirs, and 1 is about vampire hunters.

Now, if that was the only parameter, then I'd say that those expressing their disappointment should've paid more attention to what the product description tries to sell.

This.

Blood of the Night does exactly as advertised, and it does it well.

This not the first time I've seen people up in arms about a book because it isn't what they wanted it to be, when all they had to do was look at the product description to begin with.

I love me some adventure paths, but the sad truth is that I will never have the time to run them all (Shackled City, Rise of the Runelords, and played through part of Kingmaker and Skull & Shackles). This means that the majority of content that I am paying for is for the sole purpose of my reading enjoyment.

Don't get me wrong, that is not a bad thing. I LOVED reading Dungeon Magazine and it was reading it that kept me into gaming through a dry spell of opportunities to play. Similarly I love reading through adventures.

Bringing this back to Shattered Star though, it has helped illustrate to me just how comparatively boring it is to read through a heavy dungeon adventure to one that is chocked full of political intrigue and interesting encounters.

It very well could be that this AP plays beautifully, but it isn't much of a read. For the first time, all the episodes of an AP are really good at putting me to sleep at night. I just opened the fourth installment I got in the mail today and realized I hadn't finished the second.

So far... it just hasn't been much fun to read.

Sean

Meanwhile, this is probably the most fun I've had reading an AP other than Jade Regent.

This is an awesome change, and will be the perfect thing for my Sunday night groups. We occasionally do APs, but we swap out GMs a lot. This will be a really nice way to have a strong campaign story that goes for a while, without getting into a full AP.

I was strongly considering dropping my module sub, and this change has has put a definitive stop to that line of thought. :-)
