Joan is a short, tough red headed woman of about 23 winters. She's not much taller than a dwarf, about 4' 8". Her grey eyes are sharp and alert, and very much practiced in noticing even the slightest detail. She has a child-like cuteness to her, with a rounded face and large eyes. She has a tattoo of the holy symbol of Desna on her right shoulder. Her fair skin bears many small scars from scrapes and cuts from tumbles and close calls, but there are two particularly bad scars, one on her left thigh from an attack by a rabid wolverine clawing at her, and another across her lower back from an ogre's spear.

Since she spends most of her time in the colder climes, she wears a thick coat and heavy boots over wool stockings, pants, and tunic. She wears the tunic, pants, and stockings to bed to help her keep warm, and always has a punching dagger in easy reach.
