Laithe Greycoat wrote: DM Mothman wrote: Jirkin’s keen eyesight allow him to make out some detail of the dark space below the hearth. The opening appears to open out into a small, dirt walled chamber, about six feet deep and probably about 6 feet square also. A wooden stool rests directly below the opening, and the only other objects that can be seen within the space are a small wooden bench, upon which rest half a dozen unlit candles, a small chest, and a bed roll.
Laithe peers into the space, squinting and struggling to see what is down there. He throws a glance back towards the door, and seeing the wolves have held off their attack thus far, turns to Jirkin;
"Friend, your eyesite seems to fair better than mine. If you are willing I will help lower you into the hole and give you a hand back out if you can find anything of use down there"
He braces himself on the edge of the hole and offers his hand to Jirkin.
"Thank you, I think i will need help to check what down in the hole, just give me a hand." Jirkin says accepting Laithe's help
Jirkin looks around the cottage. It’s not a big building, but there’s a lot of stuff in here, and with the mess everything is in, it would take a long time to thoroughly search. However, Jirkin recalls the conversation between Gosia and Keildrithe earlier that morning – she said to search the floor by the fireplace!
Jirkin hurries over, and after but a few moments dusting away soot and spilt food, discovers a large flagstone, about two feet square, that appears to be loose. There is a gap of almost an inch wide between the loose stone and the others nearby, and Jirkin notices a narrow groove, about an inch deep on one side of the loose pavement.... Jirkin pauses thinking How the heck did Gosia lift this! Jirkin then shouts to the group "ummm, i think i need help here. I think i found what we are looking for, but i am not strong to lift this stone to get what we want, please someone help me." Jirkin looks at the gap looking for help because he dosen't want to hurt himself.

Keildrithe Oldsun wrote: Laithe Greycoat wrote: "If we block up the door as best we can and then surround the hole in numbers I think we stand a better chance of minimising damage. Wolves are very fast; if you jump down on top of one I fear you will be pounced on by the next before you can dodge away, even if you do manage to slay it with one blow."
"Wolves are pack hunters and I think Keildrithe is right; if we don't protect the door way they are likely to get inside and use their numbers to pull down one of us at a time. If we hold them at the door, we may only need to down one or two before the rest lose heart and flee"
"Also, if we do allow them the run of the cottage and they do manage to pull one or more of us down, it will be much harder to get the wounded to safety and treat them. That is my opinion - what think the rest of you? We must decide quickly"
Laithe moves inside the door so he is no longer out in the open in his initiative order of course; assuming he isn't prevented from doing so
"Well spoken, friend." Then, pensively, Keildrithe leans his sword against the wall, drops his pack, and pulls his beldach from it.
"This may be a foolish idea, he says, for I know not how an angry wolf will react to a human's spoken lullabye... but perhaps if I gently sing one of the songs our people once sang in honour of the elder wild ones, it will soothe the rage in their hearts... it is worth a try, is it not?"
Standing beside Laithe, Keildrithe peers around the doorframe. "Yes, we should make every effort to seal at least the bottom half of the doorway with other obstacles. I am certain that Gosia would forgive us for this uncouth use of her furniture, given the circumstances."
Keildrithe looks towards Jirkin. "Wizard, I beg your forgiveness for chastising you earlier over your eagerness to search the premises. The Artonite is the least of our concerns now. If you or someone else would like to search the area before the hearth, now would be the time to do it. Perhaps we shall... Jirkin nod i will be gladly to search the cottage Search check 12+3=15
Quote: "And what of you, wizard Jirkin, know you any spells that could help protect us from these hungry prowlers?" " i have no protection spells sadly only ones that would hurt the wolf or create an illusion to scare it away...maybe."

Laithe Greycoat wrote: DM Mothman wrote: From the mouth of the clearing, which is some twenty yards across and roughly circular in shape, a small cottage can be seen resting towards the far side of the clearing. The cottage is made of stone, roughly stacked but sturdy looking, with ivy and wild rose growing up its side. The roof of the cottage is steeply pitched, and clad in weathered timber shingles, with heavy wooden shutters pulled closed over the windows. It would be an idyllic scene, made more pleasant by the tinkle of running water from somewhere behind the cottage, if not for a few details. No smoke curls from the cottage’s tall stone chimney, and a vegetable garden between the path... Laithe immediately moves just off the path, where he is in some cover from trees and undergrowth. He motions with his left hand for the others to approach, and then turns momentarily, lifting his finger to his lip for silence.
Turning quickly back to the clearing he scans for any further sign of movement and strains his ears to see if he can determine what it is he hears.

If anyone is adept at sneaking forward to gain a closer look, we could cover you from here while you get into position? Otherwise I can assume a different shape and head in for a look?"
Still watching the clearing closely, he awaits a reply. Jirkin whispers, "i can't move that quietly, so whoever is quieter should see what "thing" is in the cottage, or if no one is able to be quiet you should change shape."

This is why i wear this mask, to hide myself from them and to soon take my revenge for what they did to the family nameSorry if this was random for me to bring up, just thought the group should know....but right now i am going to leave that aside right now, Jirkin puts on his mask. and i am sorry to tell you a part of my history that no one else has heard for i know some of you were wondering why i was wearing this mask, this is the reason."

I think we already indicated our intention to Mothman to get Dras, or one of his relatives to keep an eye on town events for us (or even Troy, if he is temporarily out of the game). My feeling is that Mothman can simply tell us who we found to be our eyes in the village, without roleplaying the encounter. Given how much Keildrithe dominated the NPC interaction up to date, I think we should just get things moving on toward Gosia's cottage... what do the rest of you think? i agree

Then again, given how unpopular Laithe's brand of faith is with the Artonites... perhaps we should go with a community member (unless you make use of non-magical healing)? Your call... I only have a cure minor wounds (i.e. +1 hp) at the moment anyway, so it would primarily be non-magical healing. I do agree it might not be a great idea to openly use magic in front of the artonites, but I could tend to her non-magically and maybe subtely work in some magical healing?
Mothman, would it be possible to work in the minor cure spell without it being obvious that magic has been used?
Yeah i wish i took some healing spells too i am stupid will there is always 2nd level.

DM Mothman wrote: Apologies again for my tardiness gents – we’ll pick up as Keildrithe, Troy (and possibly Alton?) are entering the constabulary.
Entering the constabulary through the low doorway, you see a small room containing a long wooden desk and a few hard looking wooden chairs. Hanging on the walls around the stone walled room are various items including a shield bearing the Baron’s coat of arms over two crossed shortswords, a framed verse of Artonite scripture, and several sconces containing currently unlit torches.
Behind the desk, a small, cluttered office can be viewed through an open doorway at the far end of the room. In the same wall is a closed heavy, iron bound oak door with a small barred viewing window in it, and an arched opening which leads to a short, shadowed corridor.
The two soldiers guide Gosia to one of the chairs, pulling it to the centre of the room, and partially undo the bindings holding her hands, tying them expertly to the back of the chair. The female soldier hesitates, seeming unsure as to whether to take the gag from her mouth.
One of the brown uniformed constables enters the room, just behind you a short, rotund, Atuscan looking man, with a harried expression. He heads to the desk and begins clearing papers, glancing up at you as he does so.
Outside the building, only a few people are left in the rapidly clearing square – including the Inquisitor and his two guards, who stroll after you towards the constabulary at a slower pace.
As the group talks outside the doorway, he stops several paces away, waiting with a slightly amused expression curling his lip. Once it has been decided who is entering the building, he starts forward again, heading towards the still open doorway, whilst his guards look ready to take up positions outside along with Jirkin and Laithe. The men stare curiously at Jirkin’s unmasked face, then one of them gasps and makes a rapid star-sign in the air before his face as he notices the points of Jirkin’s half elven ears.
The Inquisitors attention...
Jirkin puts his mask back on nerviously hand shakingJirkin whispers to Laithe "I have a bad feeling, Laithe, i have many reasons for wearing this mask and i don't plan to tell you now,but i have a feeling that i just got myself in danger." Jirkin looks at the ground "...I am sorry..." Jirkin then stares at the building, twitchs, then waits for a whistle to come out of the jail.

Keildrithe Oldsun wrote: Laithe Greycoat wrote:
"I don't think the task of clearing Gosia's name is impossible, but I do think he will do all he can to make sure we don't succeed."
"Agreed," says Keildrithe to Laithe.
Keildrithe places his beldach back into his pack as he approaches the constabulary, and leaves the pack along the wall beside Laithe. "You would not mind keeping an eye on this, friend Laithe, while I enter the constabulary? My beldach is precious to me, for it has been handed down from generation to generation by the hedilye in my family. I do not wish to chance that the authorities would try to confiscate it from me."
He then proceeds to slide his dagger inside his coat of armour, against his side and halfway down his torso. "Ah, this is awkward, but, just in case...".
Then, to the party: "I believe it is my responsibility to enter the constabulary. As a resident of these parts for some years, I have more knowledge of the local factions and politics, and even of Gosia's place in the community... this should be helpful while questioning her. I have asked that Troy accompany me, for, in my opinion, the guards and priests are less likely to trouble him or to feel threatened by him, since he appears to be (no offense intended, friend) naught but a simple highwayman. Given that I am the one against whom they will hold the strongest grudge at this point in time, I do not think it necessary to risk the lives or freedom of all my newfound companions, who may adhere to faiths or arcane practices that may be offensive to the Artonites. I would, however, feel more secure knowing that there are two or three persons staying behind, with "unusual talents," to bail us out in case of trouble...
"Of course, you are all free men, free to decide your own courses of action... these are but my thoughts.... So? Who shall enter, and who shall stay? Laithe and Troy have already spoken... what of the rest of ye?"
Keildrithe's gaze wanders from Alton to Jirkin...
Jirkin picks up his mask that was on the grounds puts it back on answering "I guess that means i will stay outside, just whistle of you need help in there."

Perhaps, but Fortune has favored me so far and I generally pass as a simple entertainer. Besides, if they decided to try to burn me at the stake I would take a few a them with me. I'm good a tgetting out of unfortunate situations.
I follow Laithe into the constabulary. Keeping the Inquisitor in sight as long as possible. "He will betray us. I think that we fill end up in battle with him before this is over."

Troy, would you accompany me? "
Troy glances at the others, and then nods to Keildrithe. "I'd be happy to." After all, he throught to himself, the girl was rather pretty, apart from whatever beatings she had endured at the hands of these 'good' men. Perhaps if he made a good impression she would feel indebted to him. The lanky human smiled and swaggered just a bit as they followed the guards toward the building.
If Keildrithe's advice is taken, Troy follows inside, keeping a wary eye on the guards. He'll then maneuver for the best position to speak with Gosia. Jirkin follows his members going in to the jail cell, not wearing his mask, As Jirkin enter the jail cell he gets a chill going down his spine, reminding him of how his family was tortured for being wisards. “So, the five of you will stand for the woman,” he states, eyes hooded. You catch a glimpse of his crooked, yellowing teeth as he speaks.
“Yes, of course you may speak to her, I would not wish to hamper your investigation in any way. But of course, you understand my concern. If – if – I am right and she is indeed a foul witch, we would not want her bewitching the good citizens of this place, would we? You may speak to her back in her cell, for the safety of all, including yourselves. No, no, do not be concerned, we shall not attempt to detain you, you may come and go as you wish, you have my word.” He eyes your weapons, amused. “Besides, I am sure you would put in a good showing should anyone attempt any foul play.”

He turns to Jirkin and holds out his hand, introducing himself "I am Laithe. If you are willing to help in our efforts to vindicate Gosia, then I thank you. We can use all the help we can get."
At the sound of Troy's voice, addressing the priest, Laithe turns with him, standing by his side and folding his arms, adding silent support.
