Background Jean-Paul grew up as the youngest of seven children to the Marquis de Austaire, in the northern provence of Cheliax. In a land where political expedience meant killing your closest rival, his life was one of tense and trustless training in the ways of the nobility. Very early on, a commission was bought for the lad in the army. His equipment and armour were of the finest quality and his commission fees were paid annually, but apart from that he was effectively banished from the family estates. The day he heard of his fathers death (on a boar hunting trip apparently), he resigned his post and left the shores of Cheliax. His third eldest brother, Leon, had managed to have both his rivals to the estate murdered and was known to be ruthlessly awating the opportunity to rid he world of any other possible contenders to his title. It was prudent to leave He signed on as a marine on a military ship working the waters of Varissia and spent the next 5 years working under Captain Abrahm Spears on the ship Siron's Song. This exceptional sailor infused a sense of honour and righteousness in the young d'Austaire, and gave him a sense of self that his family had never provided for him. He also learnt the art of twin weapon fighting on this vessel, something he plans on trying to perfect as his life progresses. A severe case of shellfish poisoning on the last trip had killed the old man though, and again Jean-Paul found himself adrift. He departed the ship in Riddleport and now seeks some form of aim in his otherwise turbulent life. Appearence Tall and muscular, Jean-Paul has the lean look of a warrior and sailor. His body is equally used to travelling up rigging as it is swinging a variety of weapons, and his time in the navy toughened the young man considerably. His weapons and armour were "borrowed" from his time in the Chelaxian army, and along with the signet ring he wears, are the only signs he once belonged to a noble family. The man has fair hair and blue eyes, something that should make him quite attractive, yet his demeanor is occasionally off putting. So many years living in the tense politics of Cheliax makes him sonewhat distant and hard to warm to, a defensive mechanism he can't seem to shake. However, when he tries, he can be as charming as the next courtesan to pass through the halls of nobilty. |
