Hi,

So i am trying to teach myself the new system by building a dwarf fighter. I started at level 1 and have been going level by level. I just hit level 5 and get 4 free ability boosts. I boosted strength to 19, constitution to 18, Dexterity to 14 and wisdom to 16.

Constitution is the problem. So far I have been adding 13 hit points per level when I level up (10 from fighter and 3 from con modifier). When I increase my con at 5th level do i retroactively get more hit points for my previous level (like you would in 1st edition) or do i only starting getting the extra hp at 5th level.

I scoured the rule book for every mention of increasing hp and boosting con and found nothing. Any thoughts?

Big spoilers here

Spoiler:

So I am DMing this for my wife and friends and we are in book 3 having just done the early parts of longshadow (they convinced Mayor Thom to let them help by defeating his advisors in a verbal duel and they are working on longshadow's defenses and just rooted out the disguised infiltrators and the bugbear assassins.

But an interesting thing keeps coming up. The party keeps capturing Ironfang legion soldiers or mercenaries like the dopplegangers alive and interrogating them and interestingly enough the party keeps trying to offer them mercy. My wife in particular who is playing a Half-orc has become very empathetic to the idea that the Ironfang Legion just wants a nation of their own. Her mother was an orc forced into service by Molthune who was saved by her father a Nirmathi soldier and they fell in love. She believes that although the Ironfang's tactics and use of slaves are wrong, their ultimate goal (or at least stated goal) of creating their own nation may be just.

I have been thinking a lot about something Crystal Frasier wrote in the opening to War for the Crown: Crownfall about PCs wanting to leave their world a better place. If my party wants to try to make peace with Azaersi after they defeat Zanathura and establish some way for the Hobgoblins and other ironfang soldiers to become part of Nirmathas, is that feasible? Are there any other things I could seed into the remaining adventures to build towards this?

I just feel really proud of my players for even thinking this way especially after the Ironfang legion hurt their families when they invaded Phaendar. If this is the route they choose to go I want to find subtle ways to incorporate this and reward their roleplaying and would love any advice.

Hi,

So I have mostly GMed more recent campaigns like Ironfang Invasion but I got the CotCT Hardcover for my birthday and am running it now. One of my players, who is mixed race and really felt a kinship for Aubrin in Ironfang Invasion pointed out that every NPC they've met in Crimson Throne so far is white. Looking through the book, the major npcs and villains seem to be exclusively white except for Thousand Bones.

I was wondering if this is done on purpose, is Korvosa just not very racially diverse, is it exclusionary to other races? I noticed it is mostly human but didn't realize those humans were also not very diverse.

I am thinking of recasting some of the major players with new art. Does anyone foresee that being a problem story wise? Also does anyone have links to resources of character portrait art to help me out?

Thanks,
Jason

So my friend and frequent GM Wes is a professional sound designer, and he recently started making these awesome mp3s of thematic background sounds for our games. So he'll make it sound like we are in a dwarven city or a tavern. It really helps add to the game.

He recently decided to try out a kickstarter to see if others are interested in getting his background loops and to help him make more.

I just backed it and I hope you will too!

So my party just defeated the stag lord and did a year worth of kingdom building and next we are starting adventure 2. One of the players asked if the NPCs would gain levels as things progressed. Iw as wondering what would people thought about this should I let the npcs level but stay 3- 5 levels behind the npvs or should I leave them be. I remember in Shackled city the important npcs like jenya and shensen leveled with the party and thought this could be cool with the kingdom leaders what do you think?

Hey paizoans!

Just wondering if Paizo products are currently or will ever be available on kindle or other e book products. I am currently looking for a way to have all my Pathfinder stuff at my fingertips without lugging a laptop around and I think the kindle looks cool. But I didn't see any of your products in the kindle store and I don't know if your pdfs will work on it or not. Just tryng to get some advice before buying one. What does the Paizo community say?

I have a problem. I came up with a cool item I am really in love with. Then taking some advice from you guys i went back and read last year's entries and realized that an item similar to mine made it to the top 32 last year. Now my item is similar in theme and presentation but offers very different abilities and game mechanics. I'm torn because I love my idea, but i don't want to get disqualified for copying. I was wondering should I reference the other item "this item is similar to blank however offers different abilities", should I not mention it at all or should I scrap it even though I love my idea? What do you gusy think?

check out these photos. This is from a battle i ran last saturday for the savage tide adventure serpents of scuttlecove.

In the adventure the pcs have to attack a base of pirates called the wreck. The wreck is what I called a "pirate treehouse" where they have strung up a bunch of wrecked ships around a central mast creating a tiered base that rises above the water.

To create this on the mat. I used my conbat tiers from tinkered tactics, found here combat tier
and i used my pathfinder map set for ships and boats. boats and ship map pack
My players eyes lit up as soon as they saw it anmd they started coming up with all these tactics on how to take it down.

They ended up deciding to dimension door right to the base of the structure and while the rest of the party defended the two fighters they hacked at the central mast with adamantine weapons. After a few full round actions and some help from their acid breathing half dragon monk ally, the brothers grimm brought the structure tumbling down. The pirates were not prepared for this and made the fight all that much more interesting.

special thanks to paizo and tinkered tactics for making the prodcuts that made this fight so memorable.

can you cancel my subscription for now thank you

Hey I just got dunegon 150 in the mail today and started reading it. I'm like 6 pages into the prince of demons adventure, and everytime i turn a page it falls out. I'm trying to handle it very carefully and its faling apart. This is especially bad since i need this issue to stay intact for a few months until I run the adventure. Can you guys remedy this. Maybe send another copy and actually glue the pages in this time.

Thanks,
Jay

Hye I went to the San Diego Comic-con and in the book it said you guys had a table, I looked all day for you finally ffound where you were supposed to be and you weren't there. It was a total bummer because my girlfriend and I love you guys. Oh well, hope everything's ok, maybe we'll see you next year.

so iw as reading a thread about the 350 cover, and it got me thinking.

Wouldn't it be cool to stat all those iconics. We know little about them except their pictures. So i just thought maybe I'd try to give them classes and stuff. Thought maybe some other people might wanna try their hand at it too. I'm gonna try to stick to the core books and the core 11 classes. I'm also gonna probably do a point buy. Lemme know if anybody else wants to give it a try. we can maybe set some ground rules.

I'll post again after thinking more about it, let me know your ideas.
Thanks,
Jay

hey,

I still haven't received 149 of dungeon. I changed my address a few weeks before it shipped but didn't think that would slow it down this much. Can someone verify that it was sent to me and that it was sent to my california address.

thanks,
Jay

Hi,

I have a pathfinder subscription and a few free issues of pathfinder from my dungeon and dragon transition, will i have to order the Pathfinder player's guide seperately or is that part of the pathfinder subscription and I'll get that automatically?

Thanks,
Jay

hey everyone,

my girlfriend and I just moved to the Los Angeles area. I DM and play, she mostly just plays. We're looking to form a new gaming group. We play standard D&D with a few house rules and we allow pretty much all the books. I'm open for discussion on any aspect of the game. I was thinking of running savage tide, or shackled city to start.

We live in Sherman Oaks. We haven't found any good D&D stores in the area, let me know if you know of any. Just mostly looking for some D&D people to hang out with.

Thanks,
Jay

This is really sad news. But any anger directed at Paizo is misplaced. In every editorial they write you can feel their love for core dungeons and dragons seeping through it. These guys have these jobs because they love the game. they probably fought tooth and nail to keep this license. Wizards for their own reasons has decided to move on. I for one think this is a poor decision. I think that dungeons and dragons will suffer from the loss of monthly support aht paizo offered. I only hope that the relationship between paizo and wizards hasn't been completely severed as some of wizards' best writers and creative staff on their books are also paizo people.

Erik and the entire Paizo gang. I'll stick with you. I'll stick with wizards too because core D&D is where my heart is at. But I want you all to know that you still have one incredibly loyal fan here who's got your back through thick and thin.

Thank you for all your hard work. Dragon magazines are scattered all over ym game table and all throughout my house. I've played through age of worms and its one of my absolute favorites. I own shackled city and plan on running it very soon.

Your hard work and love for the game is very appreciated.

I've got another brain teaser for the D&D rules masters.

In game the other night we came upon a situation where the fighter could hardly hit this big dragon cuz the dragon had a high AC. (I'd perhaps made this particlar dragon a little TOO tough.) Anyways the fighter decided since he could only hit on a 20, thathe would power attack for all. I thought thats fine. Then he said I guess there's nothing stopping me from combat expertising for all as well.

He seemed to think that he could power attack foir his full base of 9 and combat experise for 5. I told him that he can power attack and combat expertise at the same time but couldn't exceed his base attack meaning he could say power attack for 5 and combat expertise for 4 The total being 9 which equals his base attack. He thought that since it doesn't mention in the rules that they can't be combined he could exceed his base attack. Power attack for 9 combat expertise for 4 and take a -14 penalty on attacks. I eventually just made a ruling but still didn't feel good about it, mainly because he's a good friend and knows D&D very well and I couldn't find any rules to clarify that he was right or I was right. I was hoping to clarify this before we play again.
Any thoughts???

I'm a fairly seasoned gamer and DM, but i have never known the answer to this question. I was hoping the paizo community could help me out.

So i have a dragon using power attack. lets say for simplicity's sake the dragon has a +30 attack bonus and a strength bonus of 10. so nor mally he does a bite at +30 and deals 2d8+10 damage. when he power attacks for 10 he has an attack bonus of 20 and deals 2d8+20. simple right. now lets say his attack bonus with a claw is +30 also, he deals 2d6+5 on a hit. if he is power attacking for 10 his attack bonus goes down to +20 but what does he gain on his claw attack should the new damage be 10 higher ( for 2d6+15 full benefit from power attack), 5 higher(for 2d6 +10, 1/2 benefit from power attack) or no bonus (2d6 +5, no benefit from power attack)?

In the power attack feat it says that light weapons don't get the bonus from power attack unless the weapon is a natural attack or unarmed strike. I haven't found anywhere that it says what to do with secondary attacks or attacks that only recieve half the creature's strength bonus.

I've come across this before but just came across it agin preparing for my game this saturday. It really annoying. Anyone have any ideas??

Hi when I was placing my order for my dragon subscription, the credit card info didn't go through properly once so i refilled it out and then the website accepted it, however when i checked my bank statement. I was charged twice on my credit card. Can you remove the first charge? The website here says it only chraged me once, but my bank statement says I was charged twice.

Thank You,

So i am gonna be doing shackled city sometime soon and I was wondering if anyone else had come across the same errors I had involving the schackled city villain Embril Aloustinai. I apologize if this has already been asked and only hope someone can help me out or point me in the right direction.

So Embril aloustinai is the high priestess of the cathedral of wee jas. She performs all sorts of duties for the church oif wee jas. She recently has become on the cagewrights and is working towards their goals as well. However when the pcs confront her in chapter eleven, her stat block states she is a cleric of eryhtnul. the final adventure even states she is giving the pc she traps over to her god erythnul. How is it possible that a cleric of erythnul rose to seat of high priestess in the church of wee jas. Don't you think some wee jas people would have realized this. Or that embril would have not chosen wee jas.

I'm just woindering because if she is decieving the church of wee jas in order to gain power in the city, (clearly a cleric of wee jas is more widely accepted by townsfolk than a cleric of erythnul), then I want to play her that way. It just seems to me like an error in the book rather than a planned out deception.

Hey everyone, I've been searching through ym back issues looking for a specific class acts article and can't find it.

Can anyone tell me which issue had the class acts article that had new attack of opportunity feats in it? I believe it was the adventurer section of class acts.

One of my players wanted to use these feats and now I can't find the issue. I wanted to order it if I perhaps lost it but need to know which issue to order.

Thanks,
Jay

so my friends and i started a new campaign today.

I am playing a Human fighter who specializes in big swords named Krym. My friend is playing a Gnome Wizard inventor named Geau.

Our other two players, (other good friends of mine) are Jamie a druid with like several billion animals running around and Schemp, a Half-orc Barbarian with a Magical floating Hammer, which doubled as a scooter.

We own and operate a restaurant called Tunnel Path, and are trying to creat soem sorta weaponshop. Well i'll let the others post soem stuff too.

I'll leave you with the immortal words of Krym.
"Just use some of your Magi-Doo against them."

The Following is an excerpt from my character Kieran's backstory. It tells the story of his youth and his call to be a Paladin. Just soemthign i've been kicking around in my head for a while, i decided to finallly write it down.

~~~~~~
My name is Sir Kieran, Blade of Heironeous, but that hasn't always been my name. I was born Keiran McCarn. I wasn't born into a noble family, or a proud line of knights. I am the son of a farmer. I grew up helping my father tend the land raise the cattle. We never had much but we had paid off our debts, and the land was ours. We were proud.
My eldest brother, Kyle, was trained to one day take over for my father and run the family farm, and he was a good man for the job. My middle brother, Kevin, was taught the craft of blacksmithing and joined a local military academy to one day protect our land. While my older sister Katherine went off to be coem a Priestess of Pelor, our family's patron deity.
My parents has always planned on this. One child gets the farm, one becoems a military man, one joins the clergy. My parents had never planned on having me. Sometimes, i could hear my father muttering about expenses for the famr, and his little accident that he didn't know what to do with. My mother, however, always told me I was born for a reason, she knew it, but that it was up to me to find out.
When I was 7, my brother Kyle took us sledding during the winter. One fateful day, He fell through the ice with my sister. The tide under the ice was strong and my brother Kevin barely caught my sister, as Kyle got pulled under. As my brother and sister panicked, an overwhelming calm washed over me. I jumped into the water and dove to the bottom pulling Kyle out, then I pushed katherine into my brother Kevin's arms. The tide then got the best of me and pulled me to the bottom.
I remember clear to this day, sitting on the bottom of that frozen river. I head a voice call out to me. "Kieran, you will take up the sword and serve as one of my holy knights," A voice as smooth as a freshly-wrought blade, yet powerful as a lightning bolt called oput. "A writhing darkness will soon cover the land, and only you and the heroes you gather will be able to stand against it."
I responded in my own meek voice. "I will stop this great darkness?"
"No," The voice echoed. "The heroes you gatehr will quell this great evil. You alone have the strength to inspire true greatness in others, it is this power that you will learn to wield against the darkness. Now rise, Sir Kieran, my Shining Blade."
In an instant I felt a power like a great blast of lightning coarse through my body and I propelled my self up and out of the water, landing on the shore by my brothers and sister.
I didn't speak much at all on the way home. That night at dinner, my father asked me if I was ok, clearly thinking that i was still in shock from the experience on the frozen river. I looked into my mother's deep blue eyes, and all fear washed away from me.
"Father", I said standing from the table. "I am going to journey the temple of Heironeous, I am going to serve Him as one of his traveling Paladins."
From that point on my life was never the same.
So this is a thread for my players in the savage tide, (since the savage tide boards have spoilers splattered about),as well as whoever feels liek reading and replying. The party consists of Austin, a Fighter focusing on unarmed fighting. Quarion, and elf conjurer, and Lu'kerik a human artificer.
So feel free guys to post ideas, thoughts, problems, a rundown of the story so far and any funny things that happen as we go. I'm sure the super helpful people on the messageboard will join in on the fun too.
Thanks,
Jay
Hey everyone, my group started the savage tide last night.
we're playing in Greyhawk and I'm basically running the adventures as presented in the magazine.
The party consists of a male human artificer ( I allowed this because the player seemed very interested in improving the ship and really exploring the craft skills, we've de-eberroned the class a bit.) a human fighter who has imp. unarmed, power attack, imp. bull rush and is all about brawling, and an elven conjurer. We got as far as the boat, and it was excitingbecause they came up with a great plan to get on to the boat. The conjurer summoned a monkey who acted like he got ou of his crate( cuz the pirates are animal smugglers) and two of the pirates chased after him. Only to run right into the fighter, who knocked them out and took their gear. They now plan to use disguise self to replace the two pirates with themselves, and are going to hide the conjurer in a crate, and walk right onto the ship and meet soller vark.
I am really excited by how creative the group is being with their abilities so far. Is anyone else running it yet, what are you party detail. How'd it start up?
Hello,
I would like to cancel my order #660271 for the collosal red dragon miniature.
It is still listed as pending. I was hoping it was not too late to cancel it.
Thank you,
Hello,
I am looking for a few good gamers to join my best friend and I for a Savage Tide Game. I will be Dungeon master. I plan on running savage tide as it comes out slightly behind the release of each issue.
I use core D&D rules but allow materiel from other wizards or paizo products as long as the book or magazine is available for reference.We use a good mix of Role-playing and rolling in our game. Minimum house rules. I have a decent collection of wizard's miniatures and use a battle mat.
Looking to play weekly game, Friday night or sunday afternoon/evening. Please email me with some information about yourself and i will respond with more information about our game.
Thank you.
"Demogorgon, I've got two swords one for each of you."
so i'm goign nuts waiting for the first issue, so I thought maybe we could pass the time with a fun game.
I like to play characters who talk tough to the bad guys. I think a savage tide PC especially pirate influenced would be a great smack talker. So I've been trying to think of good quotes for parts of the campaign.
Here are a couple.
"Holy crap that's Demogorgon. What should we do?"
"Just hit the ugly one!"
"Which one's the ugly one?"
The two-weapon fighter when meeting Demogorgon "I've got two swords, one for each of ya!"
I based those two on two of my fav movie quotes. Can you guess which movie?
Also do you guys have any quotes you'd like to see come up in your campaigns?
Hi everyone,
I was just thinking about how the savage tide is gonna feature demogorgon and possible in the last three adventures several other demon lords. It will also feature a couple adventures in the abyss.
I've never done much plane hopping in my campaigns before, and other than the demonomicon(sp?) articles in dragon know very little about the demon princes and the abyss.
I was just wondering if anyone out there purchased fiendish codex 1 and if it would be a helpful resource for this campaign. It looks cool but with alot of books out there to be bought and only so much money to go around, I wanted to be sure that it would be useful. Also if there are any other resources that are worth getting please let me know. I have a manual of the planes and planar handbook and I plan to read those.
Thanks,
Jay
So I thought this would be an appropriate place to post this. The Adamantine mind blade feat seems pretty overpowered. This feat allows a soulknife of 3rd level (prereq of base attack +1, and soulknifes have cleric base atk) to wield an adamantine weapon that if destroyed or disarmed can be reconsituted a round later. This also acts as adamantine in all ways meaning it has increased hitpoints and hardness as well as getting through damage reduction.
Now monks get a class feature like this at 16th level, and normal players can buy an adamantine weapon for 3,000 gp, which most characters couldnt do until 4th or 5th and then they would be spending a majority of their money on that one item. An item which could be turned against them if taken, and could be destroyed (although not easily).
Also the Soulknife would have the advantage of being able to change the weapon from a shortsword up to at leats a bastard sword, at a later level. Combine this with shapable mind blade feat and this soulknife would have several different adamantine weapons at his disposal.
I just think that this feat is overpowered, its a great idea but shouldn't be available until higher levels.
Any thoughts?
