I've never read any of the fiction, but I don't object to it being there. I almost never read the fiction back in the old days of Dragon either, though I remember a few enjoyable short stories. The backmatter articles that get most use from me are the rules subsystems ones (things like diseases from back in CotCT or the Kingmaker stuff or that kind of thing) and I do use the Bestiaries. How about their family/comedy westerns like Hot Lead and Cold Feet, The Apple Dumpling Gang, The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again or their modern-day equivalents like The North Avenue Irregulars? Seems like we used to watch those on old-school movie projectors at church overnights or family nights, though I'm pretty sure I saw some of them at the drive-in. Jim Groves wrote:

Hey, good ideas are good ideas, wherever they originate! I also sketched out a Worldwound campaign in the entry for Storasta in Lost Cities of Golarion; you might pick up that book if you want to see about 1500-ish words on the subject. I threw out a quick notion for a Worldwound AP a while back as well. It was over here. Viva la Crusade! :) If you want super-LG, Legacy of Fire is your best bet plot-wise. If you wanted to do a lot of work, you could reflavor it and drop it into a pseudo-Europe campaign, perhaps replacing the genies with faerie creatures (keep their stats the same, just reskin them with different descriptions). Jade Regent also works very well as an LG AP. Those are your best bets, and alas but they are the LEAST European APs that there are. Perhaps the future may hold new possibilities. I've been banging the drum for a Worldwound AP and hope we'll see one soon. I was also disappointed they dropped the plan for a dragons AP, as I'd love to see that happen. I'd say yeah, she gets sucked out on the instant of death. You could also make the argument that the Storm Sphere is essentially an artifact and that its binding up with Katiyana's mind/body/spirit would supersede and break through ordinary magic like Sanctify Corpse. But... if you want to make the trip easier and void the entire rest of my beautiful happy lovely adventure... *sniff* *sob*... well you just go ahead... :( If you were trying to make a poor writer cry, well, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! *single silent tear*

As was posted elsewhere on the boards when the book came out, this was just a clean miss by me - I thought I had traded out all the ki-related class features for the martial artist but flat-out forgot about abundant step. I believe my suggestion at that time was to replace it with an improved pain points ability, increasing the bonuses from that ability by +1. Nothing particularly sexy, but if you tell your GM that's what the author suggested, maybe he/she'd give you a break and let you have it. EDIT: Here is my original post on the subject (search the boards for "abundant step, martial artist, jason nelson") I was looking at my original turnover for the martial artist, and I just flat missed putting in an ability swap for abundant step. I left in high jump as a class ability on purpose, because even without ki it also gives you the auto-running start and the +level bonus to jumping, which is pretty nice. Abundant step, though, that was just a clean "oops." If you want a simple and wholly unofficial fix for this, simply replace abundant step with an another bonus monk feat (like the ones you get at 1, 2, 6, 10, etc.). Alternatively, you could give the martial artist: Improved Pain Points (Ex): At 12th level, a martial artist's bonus from his pain points ability increases to +2. This ability replaces abundant step. For an official ruling on what should replace abundant step (which clearly makes no sense for the ki-less martial artist), however, FAQ this post and/or post in the UC Errata thread and ask for the official answer. I actually forgot about that one. I thought it was terrific, and had a nice message. No, really. The idea is the sandman hits his wife with the dream dust and she has this sort of mundane Fabio-romance dream. He gets the mega-supercharged "GUY DREAM" but partway through he jumps off the script, ignoring the stadium full of hoochies and Motley Crue-fueled drag race to go and find his wife, because that's his REAL dream girl. Awwww... very sweet. :) Sunderstone wrote:
Ironic that I wrote both of those. Maybe I should've included more crazy subsystem stuff in End of Eternity or the as-yet-unnamed future project so I could go for the trifecta (or both for the superfecta!). :) Balodek wrote:
The demon roaches are awesome. :) houstonderek wrote: Payoff at the end? Priceless. Yeah, didn't see that one coming! :) I think overall I was partial to the one with the supermodel in red and black that ended up being some kind of car ad. Apparently not a very effective one, since I don't remember what car it was (something European, with a scorpion. Fiat maybe?), but the lady was certainly hawt! :) I also am a longtime fan of the absurdly cute Coke polar bears, and I enjoyed those ones. I didn't include them because I figured if the demon were driven out, he wouldn't have much motivation to actually fight the PCs any more and combat would be over. I'm not sure if that intention was carried through in the final text. However, as you suggest he could be recruited to fight FOR them, and I could've included an unpossessed stat block for him (the demon-possessed template from Advanced Bestiary is a somewhat complicated one, but it wouldn't have been too hard to include a base stats paragraph in his stat block). Sorry for the omission. Papa-DRB wrote:
I used wording in writing it that I thought was clear, but in the end it was not. I've explained how it should have been reworded to clarify. HOWEVER, my restatement is not official, and Paizo has never seen fit to alter or clarify the wording in print. If you're asking how it should work, and I tell you, then it's my opinion, and only that, that continuing to insist on the "you get it at 4th, then it gets worse at 6th" interpretation is being willfully obtuse. The wording in the printed text is sufficiently ambiguous to allow that interpretation, though it is not sufficiently clear to DEMAND that interpretation. I think you're being silly, but that's just me. If you and your group are having fun with it, then it's your game bro. Enjoy it! When we turned over our class sections for Ultimate Combat, we were supposed to also send through 5-10 feat kernels. The actual feats themselves ended up being developed by another crew of folks from those kernels. For the tetori, since they were fairly central to the class, those kernels I wrote were pretty much full-text feat descriptions (though without pretty formatting), but at some point during the development process those feats got changed or axed. As to what they did, I'm sure I posted more details somewhere before, but Crushing Embrace let you do more damage with grappling I think, Twin Lock let you grapple two people at once, and Backbreaker was exactly what it says on the tin. I actually included a number of crippling-type effects as ideas for monk stuff and barbarian rage powers, but in the end almost all ended up getting either axed or smoothed out into ability damage and similar stuff rather than "no, your ARM is LITERALLY ripped off, DEAL WITH IT!" and the like. :) In any case, as noted above SRM has delivered the official errata on the subject, so done and done! BTW, I quite agree that being able to pull an inverted suplex submission hold on a ghost is pretty frickin rad. :) Sanity's Requiem wrote:
You are correct; the dragon's lair is laid out vertically. PCs may be flying, levitating, climbing, hanging on ropes, or may climb down and land inside one of the horizontal caves opening off either side of the rift. By all means feel free to take advantage of that in the dragon's combat tactics! :) I had actually originally written it with several younger dragons in the rift, Vegsundvaag's brood (and one more that would return home at a certain interval after the combat, in case PCs decided to get clever and rest in the "now it's perfectly safe" dragon lair with the dead dragons), but simplification ensued... No. Because the dirt just gets moved out; it doesn't get kept out. Creating a tunnel through dirt requires shoring up the weight of the tunnel's ceiling, which the spell doesn't provide. You could make a hole through an earthen embankment, but if it doesn't go all the way to the top, the dirt above will collapse under its own weight and fill the space you just excavated. I know that there is a ferry ride involved somewhere in there. I'm brand new to the area myself and looking for a game. Interestingly enough, a new player in my campaign the last month or two lives in Bremerton and takes the ferry over to Seattle for the game (I think she may stay over in Seattle part of the weekend--we game on Friday--but I'm not sure about that). My house is about a mile from the Fauntleroy ferry dock, so I believe she takes that route if we're playing here or at another player's house that's also in West Seattle, but she probably takes the Bremerton-downtown Seattle ferry if we are playing out in Magnolia at one of the other player's houses. Abadar would probably make the most sense, changing his domains from Earth and Strength to Earth and Law or maybe Nobility. Or, he could be a Separatist archetype and keep Earth and Strength as domains. Some people have asked in this thread about a map of the Pleasure Palace of Kakishon, where Dilix Mahad lives. Earlier today I went to go see the very enjoyable Adventures of Tintin movie, and I have to say that when I saw the Sultan's palace and gardens in Bagghar, my first thought was, "wow, that's EXACTLY how I pictured Kakishon in my mind." So, if you're looking for inspiration for what the palace grounds might look like, you'll see something very similar to what was in my head if you go to the movie. Oggron wrote: Yeah Given the choice I'd swap out Xill for Hounds of Tindalos. How could I forget my favourite monster?!! But Leng spiders get a lot of coverage in the Adherer article in 'Misfits Redeemed'. So it seems redundant to focus two slots on them. Actually those were phase spiders, not Leng spiders (at least in my original turnover, though I don't think it got changed). James Sutter wrote: What Jacobs said.
