"Cheers, boss, good to see ya". Though a bit frustrated by the day's labours, Janosz is genuinely glad to see Trose. "We - or, should I say, Nox - had some success looking for the secretary. That guy is smoooooth". He suddenly notices Trose's worn-out look. "You look a bit worse for wear - did anything happen to you?"
"It sure does. This isn't really our game, is it?", Janosz reponds with a sad smile. In some ways, he was a bit embarassed - while he could track a stag for days through the bogs, he had been largely incapable of finding an individual halfling in her own little neighbourhood. Without Nox, they would have been completely ineffectual - and, even worse, it would have been through their own ineptness rather than through any form of sabotage or resistance. Every halfling he had spoken to had been unfailingly helpful, polite and friendly - he had just not known how to ask the right questions. Truly the tasks House Tharashk set you to were many and varied! "It should be interesting to see if he has found out anything. Let's go!"
I'll do the same with Nox. Lessee... hey, I rolled an 11. After my -1 Cha penalty, that becomes 10! So, with my Aid Another, that'll bring Nox's total result up to 21. Huzzah!
"Huh, big brawl, eh? Mind if I take a quick look?". Janosz peers at the newspaper as Lightbringer chats with the doorman. "Is there a different fella who works the night shift? If so, you wouldn't happen to know him?", he asks the half-orc.
Yet another blown Knowledge check... Is there such a thing as a census in Sharn? If so, perhaps we could go there and look up the Tixler's address?
"I'm new here in town - I don't even know where these neighbourhoods are", Janosz admits sheepishly. "However, I like the way you guys think - if this Tixler person is our best lead, that's where we should go next. By the way, does anyone think the doorman might be able to tell us anything? I'm certain he made himself not see the ones who grabbbed the inquisitive, but perhaps he might be able to tell us something about Heris' clients".
"I'd wager that the bigger tracks belong to the gnolls we took out least night. But I'm also sure the Daask has lots'n'lots of gnolls eager to take their place. We had better watch out".
Lightbringer wrote: Better stop doing that with your head mate. This is a family thread! ;-) Hey, look at that... I didn't even think of it when I wrote my post
"Ah, nice work, mate. I didn't even see those". Janosz turns from Runzyl, addressing all his companions. "There are tracks in the office indicating a few gnolls - three or four, possibly a couple more. There are also some human footprints, but they could belong to just about anyone". He cocks his head towards Ezreal. "Now, what was that?"
Woot! I finally made a knowledge check!. Just a DC 10, though

You know us lot and our general confusion between spot and search checks... Or maybe we're just generally not very good when it comes to numbers. Don't elves get a racial bonus on Search, as well as Listen and Spot?
Rolled a 12 - that gives me a Search 15.
"Stay out there for just one more second, guys". Janosz carefully examines the ash-spattered floorboards. "Maaaaaaybe the vandals left behid a few more hints of their identities than they thought".
Any footprints? I don't expect to track anyone anywhere ("Aha! You have ash on your boots! You fiend!!"), but perhaps I could see how many, or approximate shoe size. Or their race if they were barefooted... Roll 16 - that is a Survival 24!
I step inside the room and take a look around. Roll 9 - that's a Spot 17. If I do not see any ambushers, I go further inside and let some air and sunlight in
"Nothin' better than a good frog, buddy", Janosz beams at the halfling. "Hmmmm... Looks like someone came here before us, fellas". He pushes the door open with his greatclub. "Tossed the place, they did. And set fire to the... WHOA!"
Is there an open fire? We might need those papers... If anything is burning, I sprint in and stamp out the flames
"Seriously, mates, it is delicious - you owe it to yourselves to try one. No?". After finishing his pickled frog, Janosz takes a quick look at the door to insure it isn't obviously trapped. Rolled a 13. That's either Spot 21, or Search 16 If it isn't, he checks if it is locked - if unlocked, he opens it and peers inside.
"This is a step up from that old crap, don't you think?", Janosz cheerfully asks Runzyl as he discards his worn studded leather and puts on his new chain shirt. "I'm Janosz Frogshanks, just arrived from the Shadow Marches". He extends a scarred hand. "You fought well back at the goblin tavern; glad to have you aboard".
Picked up a CLW potion as well. Quite useful in a fight, they are
I'll go for that tasty mwk chain shirt as well. Adds a bit of survivability, which is generally a Good Thing. I also got some minor stuff at the Tharashk compound (caltrops, grappling hook, better rope) before going to House Cannith.
Missed every check, even the DC 10 local one...
A huge grin slowly spreads across Janosz' squat features. Money, adventure and the chance to earn the favour of another great House - where was the catch? "Me too. When and where do we start?"
Certainly. In retrospect, the term "pick up" might not have ben the best... I'll still get some caltrops, though, even if I have to pay for them
Janosz wanders up to the distracted Trose. "I'm gonna go back to the House and get me weapons and kit, boss", he says. "Do you need anything from there while I'm around? I'll be back right away".
I'm assuming that I have a small room at the Tharashk compound. If Trose doesn't live there as well, I could still pick up stuff from the warehouse - rope, knives, caltrops, that sort of thing
Janosz nods at the warforged. "I like it too, mate. Lead the way - we'll be right behind you".
"Sounds like they're getting awfully close, fellas. Time to get going". Listen 25 - can I tell how far away the Watch is? While he had enjoyed cutting down the humanoid brigands, Janosz was not at all keen on confronting the police. "Here, lean on me", he says to Ezreal, gently supporting the bloody wizard as they made their way towards the elevator. "Just a little bit longer, and you'll be able to sit down".
Janosz looks inquisitively at Trose. "We could use some work" he mouths silently.
He turns to the bugbear doorman. "How do you plan to lose the bodies?"
"Didn't the last guy run out through here?". Janosz picks up his dagger again and walks over to the kitchen entrance before peering carefully inside.
Janosz watched the gnoll with something akin to admiration - it had taken a nasty swing from the frothing elf, yet it was still stading as the berserker spun past it. Well - not for long... "This ends now", he snarls, as he grabs the fallen gnoll's axe with both hands and plants it squarely in the reeling gnoll's chest
Attack roll - another 14 +3= AC 17. Hit for 7+3 =10 points of damage. Ouch!
I have my back to the kitchen door, so whatever the baddie is up to in there is missed by me
I'll be running around all over campus and beyond today, and might not be around when my turn comes. If Runzyl fails to drop his gnoll, Janosz drops the dagger, picks up the fallen gnoll's battleaxe (using it 2-H) and finishes the job for him. If Runzyl drops the gnoll, Janosz gathers up the axe and goes for the one by the door instead. Feel free to do the attack and damage rolls for me.
Game mechanics-wise, can I pick up the fallen gnoll's axe, move up to the nearest gnoll (probably the one fighting Runzyl) and whack it with the axe? Or is that just too many actions? On my turn, of course...
Janosz barks a fierce Orcish warcry as he punces upon the nearest gnoll, driving his dagger into its flank.
Don't want those nasty, nasty AoO's... I just move up to the gnoll and stick it with the knife. Attack roll: 14+3=AC 17. If that is a hit, it takes 5 points of damage. If possible, I end my turn in a position that Trose can flank
Any... synergy between Orcish and Goblin? I move forward and pick up the fallen gnoll's axe, before going after the last gnoll
Initiative =12. I go for one of the gnolls, trying to get Trose a flanking opportunity. I don't have an "improvised Weapons" proficiency, so I just poke him with the dagger. Once we drop the gnoll, I take his axe, though.
Hmmm... Rolled an 18. Does a Spot 26 get me an indication of her House?
"Yup. She doesn't seem to be here for the food". Janosz smiles at the just-arrived Tharashk. "Do you think she's the mystery contact? Perhaps we should invite her over here as well?".
Janosz nods noncommittally, before peering down into his mug. "Wine, boss? This ain’t so bad - at least it doesn’t have tadpoles in it, like me uncle’s moonshine". Truth be told, Janosz was grateful enough for Trose taking him along and showing him the ropes that he would have swilled Uncle Horvath’s vile whiskey quite happily if needed. Tonight marked his second month in Sharn, and adjusting had been rough. Still, House Tharashk had been good to him and had made the transition so much easier. So if Trose needed to visit this dive at this hour, that was fine with him. "The elf looks pretty tough, I agree. But how ‘bout that warforged over by the bar?".
