SPECIAL ABILITIES
Arcane Blast (Sp): Sometimes, magic is too time consuming or subtle. A wizard or sorcerer may spend spell points to pummel a target with raw magical energy. This is a ranged touch attack that deals 1d4 damage per spell point spent. The wizard or sorcerer may not spend more than their caster level in spell points on one blast. This ability is subject to spell resistance. Using an Arcane Blast is a standard action.
Power Ward (Sp): If a wizard or sorcerer would be affected by an arcane spell or is the target of an Arcane Blast, he may attempt to disrupt it or shield himself with raw power. To use this ability, the wizard or sorcerer spends some number of spell points less than or equal to his caster level to gain spell resistance against the effect. At least one point must be spent to use this ability. He gains spell resistance equal to 10 + the spent spell points. Using this ability is an immediate action, but the wizard or sorcerer must choose to use the ability before checking for spell resistance or making a saving throw. The spell resistance granted by Power Ward applies separately from any other spell resistance the character may have.
BACKGROUND
Jam and his parents migrated from Brastlewark in Cheliax to Korvosa when Jam was only 6yo. He soon was suspected to be a natural at wizardry and taken into the Acadamae. It turned out Jam was actually calling upon inborn power. He was flunked out by his professors for a "lack of initiative".
Unfortunately, Jam's parents Kittel and Marge were never rich and took out a large loan from Gaedren Lamm to pay Jam's way into the Acadamae. Lamm learned about Jam's failure and decided he needed to squeeze a little more out of the family to make some money off the unexpectedly short loan. The dock manager under whom Kittel and flunk-out Jam worked was found dead and the Sable Company arrested Kittel for murder based on the testimony of a local fisherman.
Jam needed to clear his father's name and he did so by tricking the fisherman Rolf Land into revealing his lies for what they were. Land was killed before he recanted to the Sable Company, but there was no evidence without the witness and Kittel was released.
After that, Jam found work as a scribe (he always had a neat hand) and has tried to stay out of trouble and off the radar since there's still a stigma attached to his father's name. No one will hire Kittel and Jam is the only one who can find work now.
