The final book will have 150-200 extra pages, and I guess only some of that is rules that aren't in the beta yet (like PrCs). Also, the Alpha will probably have a lot more art. The beta has been stated to have an art budget of $0. The alpha likely did too -- its art was all recycled.
It'll be hard to skip the Map Folio -- it appears to ship simultaneously with the setting.
Great. I like that it's a separate PDF.
Pygon wrote: Even though I've received an email stating that the PDF has been fixed (yay!), when I personalize and download it, it's still 11.4 MB and the poster map is still missing (cry!) The same thing happened to me. I've tried twice, and repersonalized it both times.
They could still do it with a discount smaller than the subscription. At 10% off instead of 15 and no store discount or PDFs there would still be plenty of reason to subscribe.
I think a case-by-case basis would be best.

Earlier this morning I placed an order for (and received) a PDF copy of the Pathfinder Chronicles: Gazetteer (OGL) PDF. The PDF itself came through perfectly, however I did not receive a PDF of the map mentioned. I took a moment to look around on the Paizo site and noticed several forum postings on the subject, indicating that such a file exists in an update. Will the map file arrive separately? If not, what should I do from here?
Have I overlooked a link somewhere on the site? It does not appear on the My Downloads page (the gazetteer does, but not a map).
I know Customer Service is working overtime lately and I appreciate any information/help.
Thanks again, I love what I've read of the Gazetteer.
The map is a larger page within the Gazetteer PDF, if I remember correctly.

I don't think they legally can.
Legalities only concern commercial products. People can incorporate as much or as little WotC 3.5 material into their Pathfinder game as they'd like. There might be a small amount of conversion needed, but based on everything I've seen, it will be minimal.
3.5 had the issue of power creep as it went on, so I'm not worried about most prestige classes. There might be an issue with the other core classes from the PHB 2, the Psionics Handbook, and the Miniature's Handbook, etc., but as I said, there was power creep and though I have limited experience with them, my impression of them was that they had an edge on the PHB core classes. In other words, there probably won't be a problem with them.
I intend to allow the 3.5 supplement books to work in conjunction with Pathfinder once I get the game going. If I run into problems, I'll post them. All true. I was just saying that Paizo can't release an official conversion.

Little confused about and between the Pathfinder Chronicles and the Pathfinder Companion. They both appear as campaign setting books. What is the difference?
The Pathfinder Companion is designed to be player friendly. Thus, they are shorter and contain no spoilers.

Have they announced if this rules set plans to adapt the other minor PC classes like the Scout, the Knight, Favored Soul, etc...?
I don't think they legally can.

A revised pathfinder version would be awesome to say the least and ask that Nick Logue do the translation to um.....ensure how dealy and creepy the place should remain sinse he has the "creepy feel" touch.
(Just read Carnival of Tears)
Sorry . . . this thread is about the Tome of Horrors, a monster book. Wizards owns the rights to Tomb of Horrors, so a Pathfinder version is extremely unlikely.
You can also just download it as a single PDF. I find that much more convenient.

Keoki wrote: [Insert Neat Username Here] wrote: I agree with Stonechild. These are the worst things about 4e, in my opinion. Also, they would kill backward compatibility, which is a major design goal. The backward compatibility is something of a myth, anyway. To run any 3E adventure with Pathfinder, for example, you would have to go through it adjusting any monsters with class levels, not to mention the fact that the hit point bonus at 1st level skews challenge ratings. It's certainly easier than converting a 3E adventure to 4E, but still involves some work. True, but that's no reason to make it even worse.

When you receive an email telling you your order has shipped, you get the PDF.
Lisa Stevens wrote: We actually toyed around with the idea of doing objects printed on transparent plastic that you could place on the map packs and really liked the idea. However, we couldn't figure out how to get it printed economically. I expect we will keep playing with the idea, because it would be really cool if we could make it work out. So if I can find cheap enough printing, you may yet get your wish!

It wouldn't need to be on transparent plastic. It could be on cardstock with the transparent areas cut out.
I'm trying to do this, but there are three 5th level modules in the area (Last Baron, Revenge of the Kobold King and Carnival of Tears). Any recommendations on which ones to scale?
They didn't seem to mind pathfinderwiki.com.

Hope you're not a fan of the spell find the path then, because over the next year I'm gonna be trying to cut that more than an MPAA censor at a torture-porn party. I meant really important stuff. As far as I know, the Pathfinder RPG will include all of the races and classes.
Wow, they even put it in bold.

Is it possible to freeze both my subscriptions for a month or so? I'm likely in the process of moving, and would hate for them to end up at my old address.
Of course, I'd like to unfreeze it once everything is straightened away ;p
Everything worked fine for me when I moved without freezing. The trick is, if you already own your new house, just have the address changed in advance.
I find it hilarious when people say "It's not backward compatible. I have to make conversions to use my old stuff. I'm going to play 4th edition instead."
Mactaka wrote: Back on topic: to the OP. I have not heard any proof that 4e will be any better at high levels. Combat takes just as long or longer for the same reasons that 3.x does...some players have a hard time figuring out what to do. I'm not a 4e supporter, but 4e does present fewer options. Therefore, it's easier to decide what to do.

I know they are in the SRD, but could WotC have somehow got a copyright on them, or whatever it is that blocks Gtih and such others? The GSL has nothing to do with the OGL.
Beholders, mindflayers, and gith were simply never entered under the OGL. Drow were. Once entered, they can never be retracted. And the reason they were was becasue they come from real world mythology. Now the GSL will restrict some of D&D's take on the Dark Elves, no more Lolith, no more obsssion with spiders, and maybe no more women on top. Though I hope Paizo keeps that last one. No. Drow cannot be used for the GSL. They're still fair game for the OGL. The two licenses are unrelated and, in fact, mutually exclusive.
We'll likely find out in D1.75.

The timeline starts with the fall of Thassilon. So they're not really on it.
Gary Teter wrote: Lisa Stevens wrote: If I remember correctly, there is only about 250 Charter Subscribers right now. That's how many charter superscribers we have (and actually the number's a bit higher).
The number of charter subscribers is in the thousands. Now I'm curious: what are the numbers for each subscription?
I'd like to see what that did if somebody typed McArtor Smurf.
(Tiny blue dragon ninja?)
You're missing Pathfinder Companion.
Taliesin Hoyle wrote: Your tag says superscriber, not subscriber.
Superscriber is all four subscriptions. I lack the modules subscription.
So how would "superscriber" work under this system? Would it link to a list of all Pathfinder subscriptions?
Jason Grubiak wrote: Lazaro wrote: I like what I'm reading so far. But I do have a question. Does the adventure take place before or after the events of the Carnival of Tears? I'm afraid this takes place right after Crown of the Kobold King. Crown was for 2nd level. This is for 5th level. There's evidently some time that passes in between.
I was originally just planning on getting the PDF, but since I was planning on placing a large order anyway and it wouldn't increase the shipping any, I just bought the print version. Now I'm going to get the PDF as well until that arrives.
doppelganger wrote: I subscribe to the Adventure Paths for the linked adventure path. Shortening each adventure by 10 pages and making it up by adding a Set Piece Adventures section is a losing proposition for me. We have all seen posted by authors and editors about how such and such was cut from the adventure for space reasons and that if they had had just a little more space it would have been much better. Now we are losing 10 additional pages from each adventure. Please do not do this. Paizo is gutting the Pathfinder APs of what makes them APs. Putting up another adventure site instead of THE adventure is just not the same. Please don't do it! 1) I'm pretty sure they've already written at least the first few and sent them to the printer. Too late.
2) Who said they were shortening the main adventure? There are other articles in each issue. I'm not saying it's wrong, I've never seen that information anywhere.
I'm not even trying to get a physical copy, and I'm still compulsively refreshing because I want to get the PDF so badly.
I support any suggestion that Paizo release something early.
But seriously, that's a good point.
It's quite good, but not if you like high-powered characters. It's designed so that pretty much anything can kill you easily. For some, this would ruin the game, but many people, myself included, just think it fits the mood.

Great! It really is a well-designed site. I spend way too much time prepping for these games because I want to make them visually interesting. I love the fact that I can edit maps from the PF modules and use them in my combat maps.
Here's the combat map I'm using for a barfight from one of the published modules. I will avoid a spoiler by not mentioning which one...

Did you copy the tiles from the module one at a time? About how long does that take?
Paris Crenshaw wrote: I'd like to put in a plug for RoleplayMarket.com to support those who want to play PFS games online. It's an awesome play-by-post site that supports combat maps and other cool features, and the site's developer is really proactive.
I'm currently running three games there you can see them here:
Pathfinder: Epoch Rising - Using the Pathfinder RPG Alpha rules
Pathfinder: Rise of the Runelords - D&D3.5
Scions of Varisia - D&D3.5
If possible, I'd like to run a game for the Pathfinder Society, myself.
That site looks really good. I just joined.

I just wanted to say that it's really awesome that A History of Ashes includes a scene in which a party of 10th level characters fights a CR 24 monster without a likely TPK.
EDIT: I can't see this post, and hopefully editing it will fix that.

Something similar happened to me. When I first moved to the house I live in now, my postman folded everything neatly in half, even if it was labeled "do not bend." Fortunately, we got a new one before I started receiving Pathfinder.

I don't think there could any greater insult to gamers everywhere than to dedicate the GSL to someone like her. I don't care what edition you prefer, if true, that's just plain wrong. Gary would be rolling in his grave if he knew they even conceived such a dedication. It was established a couple pages ago that that was a joke. Easy to miss in ten pages of posts.
