I'll bring money! (It always helps)

I suspect we'll be announcing THAT in relatively short order. . . . I hope you mean in the next five minutes, before the anticipation kills me.
I posted to recommend Pathfinder.

Tzzarg wrote: Ditto on what Insert Neat Username said. The gazetteer is more aimed at players, with a summary and some flavor text for each country. The campaign setting will more be aimed at dms. Although exact specifics haven't been given out (no table of contents...yet) I suspect you will see statted npcs, more detailed country write ups, adventure hooks, and country "secrets", none of which are in the gazetteer. Its also likely that you may see a few prestige classes, magic items, and spells (or am I confusing the cs with the Pathfinder RPG hardback). The blog says there will be five prestige classes, new regional feats and items. Not sure about spells, but since the Harrower will be magic oriented, I wouldn't be surprised.
The blog is almost what you want.
The gazetteer is just a brief outline. The campaign setting is fully detailed and about six or seven times as long. It's like comparing a five-page essay on world history to a college textbook on the same subject.

So if I make my monsters look like their monsters, is that "derivative" of their art?
Oh screw that.. I wish I could just return my books to Amazon. Not cause I dislike the game, but all this crap is too much of a pain in the a$$. Yeah, this is why I waited for the GSL before buying.

Updated as I find more... See, this is interesting and odd to me . . . if everything now has to reference the "core" books, and doesn't allow people to publish the stats, only "If you want a Githyanki Gith, see the MM," why hold any monsters back? To limit what other companies can do. If you like those monsters, you have to buy from Wizards.
I hate the legal stuff, but I'm equally annoyed about the SRD without rules, although I saw it coming.
Well, they've finally done it. That's the last thing they could have done to guarantee that I wouldn't try 4th edition.
Thank you, Paizo, for giving everyone another option.

Confused as always, but don't want to miss out on this one!!
RM
It's part of the Pathfinder Chronicles subscription, not the AP subscription.

The Jade wrote: Krome wrote: personally I would like to see the main protagonist be a gnome... you know just a poke at 4E >;) That's actually a great idea, Krome. It's a tongue-in-cheek move with instant backstory. Gnomes, like hobbits, are so small that they make every other threat bigger (literally as well, size contrast on the page). A gnome icon for the comic isn't going to be Hulk Smash... it's going to be a lil underdog working his way past insurmountable odds, using his wit, his wisdom, and his mighty bag o' tricks. There is great character development to be plundered there, and yet more insight into the mind of some big guy with his big weapon is just so done I just can't read that stuff anymore.
"No one stop Gongo! Gongo STRONG!"

I'm authoring a graphic novel this year and I prefer heroes with a dash of complexity. A gnome barbarian would be hilarious.
Actually, I seem to remember Paizo having an iconic based on a character who died in his first session. He was always pictured being killed. I believe his name was Abelard or something like that.
I loaded both sites and timed it.
Paizo's: 1.4 seconds, loads perfectly.
Wizards's: 30 seconds, and I counted five images that failed to load.
Enough said.
EDIT: I cleared my cache and retried it after realizing I had just been on Paizo's site and thus it would load faster. The results this time:
Paizo: 4.5 seconds, loads perfectly.
Wizards: 30 seconds, and this time over ten images failed to load.
Still, enough said.

I think everything except their looks is good enough that I just pretend that their descriptions are left up to the DM's imagination.

James Jacobs wrote: Joseph Mandato wrote: DM Jeff wrote: I blow up these maps to scale to use with minis, and it's so much easier editing out the numbers when they in a single square.
-DM Jeff
Mr. Jacobs (or anyone else from Paizo):
Has any thought ever been given to providing online, larger scale versions of the kinds of maps DM Jeff refers to? Maybe as downloads available to anyone who has purchased the product? Unmarked city maps would make great handouts, and larger scale dungeon maps could be printed and laid on a table as rooms were explored.
(and yes, CotCT is awesome so far!) Yes... and unfortunately, that's not really an option for us at this time. We can't simply blow up the maps to minis-scale; their pixels would show. And paying to have maps done at that scale is WAY out of our budget range. And to be honest, simply providing a duplicate untagged map for download is a bit out of our capabilities resource-wise right now too. There SHOULD be a way to extract the maps without tags from the PDFs though... I seem to remember someone was able to do that, at least... not sure where I read about that though. I've been able to do that. It's fairly easy; the room numbers in later issues (not sure exactly where it starts) are separate images from the maps. I'm not very good at verbal tutorials, though, so I won't try to explain exactly how.
This needs to go in the Campaign Setting hardcover, perhaps as a sidebar.
Paizo keeps exceeding my expectations. There's only one way this could get better, and based on the record so far, it will. One of these days they're going to announce that they've resurrected Gygax and have him working on Pathfinder.

Part of the reason for my take on religion is the intolerance and bigotry that seems to accompany it. The previous poster claimed that he has a gay mentor, who is precious to him, but that he cannot condone the man's sexuality? WTF? I will not post on this thread again. Just know that there are people out there who find your twisted Judeo-Christian take on human potential as perverse and twisted as you seem to hold gays to be. I have more gay friends than Christian friends. They are just far more pleasant to be around. I'm religious, but I find myself more and more in the "God's great, but his fanclub creeps me out" group.

Eando Kline tells us this story in the "Skinsaw Murders". No direct info on the Tyrant, though, only that his tower is located at the banks of Lake Aletheia (wherever that is) Considering that when Eando woke up the next morning, the storyteller and his wallet were both gone, I'd have to question the story's validity.
Antioch wrote: 1.) If Wizards feels the need or desire to post ads, they can place them in the proper magazine's webpage. I think you misunderstand. 3rd party manufacturers can't advertise in Dungeon and Dragon anymore. That was likely a pretty large part of how they got customers.
And how is it a "proper magazine" if it's not in print?

Antioch wrote: You might have lost the physical product, but they are still available in digital format. Yeah, only less frequently, you can't download them in one piece, and even disregarding that, the content sucks.
Antioch wrote: You arent paying for them, so why do you think you deserve over a half-year's worth of content for free? When the actual, real DDI rolls out next month, it will likewise be free, giving you some time to see what you could potentially be paying for. We don't deserve that much free content. It's advertising; it's their attempt to sell the final product, and they haven't painted a very good picture of it thus far. Frankly, what I've seen so far is not even worth the time it takes to download.
And it won't be "the actual real DDI" next month either because they won't have the majority of the features activated yet. When they do, they'll make us pay. It's supposed to be a beta, but it's got less substance from what I've seen than the Pathfinder Alpha.
Antioch wrote: So, what? You want loads of free content that will be perfectly suited just for you? Sounds pretty unreasonable to me. Not that I got this treatment when Paizo was handling Dragon and Dungeon. Sure, it was larger chunks of stuff, but very little of it was what I would call useful. Meanwhile DDI has given us small chunks of completely useless stuff, on the basis of which they expect us to buy DDI when the full version comes out. Perfectly reasonable.
Antioch wrote: I think the most use I got out of either subscription was the Age of Worms adventure path: in that case roughly a third of Dungeon saw regular use, and a small portion of Dragon where the Wormfood articles actually meshed well. So was the rest of Dungeon just blank paper during this period? Wow, my copies must have been full of typos. You know, your argument works to ways. If I can't complain because DDI isn't useful to everyone, you can't complain because part of Dungeon wasn't useful to you.
In the Gazetteer, the writeup on Aroden ends with "the true repercussions of the death of the Last Azlanti have yet to be felt." Do I since a likely future AP?

That was them making jokes based on the similarity of powers right (I took them for so and laughed), cause if they thought those were real rules then someone is seriously bad at reverse engineering I think I read somewhere that 4e actually uses literal cards to represent powers.

Sadly, though, it goes the wrong way. I'll miss Goodman Games, but I won't have any use for their products anymore.

There's a possibility that AP subscribers won't be getting a PDF when their free copy ships. That said, it was stated they'd like to provide free downloads to these subscribers. But if there's any doubt concerning this situation, there's little hope to see the product available to the general public at no cost. To be clear, we're shipping a free print edition of Pathfinder Companion: Second Darkness to Pathfinder Adventure Path subscribers along with Pathfinder 13. We have not yet determined if they'll also get a free PDF (but it seems likely).
Pathfinder Companion subscribers most certainly will get a free PDF along with their printed copy.
People who are not subscribers to either the Pathfinder Companion or the Pathfinder Adventure Path will have to pay for the PDF, which will be priced at $6.99. Oh, well. I wasn't really expecting the PDF to be free, it's just that I've relied on that a lot in my past games, and wanted to know in advance if I'd have to change my strategy in future games.
People would have been really angry if they had done away with Dungeon and Dragon completely.

My assumption is that this is also where the Wormfood/Savage Tidings stuff will go.
Good show, Paizo. I've subscribed already. (Though I will comment that a free palyer's guide still made a useful handout.) You are correct. And we'll be sending out a free copy of the Second Darkness volume of the Pathfinder Companion along with subscription copies of Pathfinder 13. So you'll be getting 32 pages instead of 16! Will there be a free download, like with the previous player's guides? I generally run play-by-post games, and that's the only way I have to get it to my players.

James Jacobs wrote: Depending on how tricksy you want the goblin to be... maybe he agrees to lead the PCs to his "base" but instead leads them up to the Pit on the Devil's Platter in an attempt to get them to climb down the hole and thus be eaten by the Sandpoint Devil? The point was to avoid a TPK. This would be worse.
Michael Brisbois wrote: Goblins are a bit tricky, as they aren't citizens of Magnimar...summary execution might not be a issue. My players did catch and interrogate a goblin in town, but I stressed how violent and feral he was. Some of the players tried to befriend him, but again, the townsfolk didn't want the little monster around town after the first attack--so, public execution. If you want to get really realistic, it might be appropriate to crow-cage the little beast, or hang his corpse as a message. One of my players suggested this early on, and I had sheriff Hemlock act like he was against it, or at least, that he wanted it to talk first. I now regret this.
Heathansson wrote: Sometimes, like if it's a microwave causing the claustrophobia. Wasn't something like that mentioned in "ten fun facts about goblins?"
Come to think of it, the adventure mentioned that several goblins jump off of cliffs to certain death to avoid capture. Isn't it possible to kill yourself by biting your tongue off?
I'm running a play-by-post game of Rise of the Runelords on another forum. My players managed to capture one of the goblins alive, and I played along with it, using it to lead them to the graveyard and explain that the goblins had humanoid leadership. Then they asked it to take them to its base. How can I reasonably get rid of the goblin? I've already had it try to run away; they stopped it.
Crave wrote: Is this product related in any way to the pathfinder alpha RPG? Is this a monster manual equivalent, or no? No. This is a fluff book about a few classic monsters like goblins, trolls, orcs, etc. We likely won't see a monster manual for Pathfinder until the final version comes out.

I'd buy it, and I already have the individual volumes.
Interesting . . .
EDIT: Does it still work if I say "the word" after editing? *tests, find that it does* Okay, so does it change back if I remove the word?
I see that it does.
Smurf?
When I saw this thread title, the first thing that went through my mind was "I don't think Paizo sells bugs."
Mike McArtor wrote: aboyd wrote: Why would I buy it if it's MORE than a dozen pages of changes? Because you already own $1000+ of books that are compatible with it. :) Wow . . . I just did the math and that's almost exactly how many 3.5 books I own.
I'm both shocked that I've spent that much and amazed that the estimate was so close.
James Jacobs wrote: Souphin wrote: Can paizo make it's own minis game miniature game and just have it NOT be compatable with DDM? Possibly. Pathos wrote: Well there is the Third Party Databases for RPGXplorer. Those are for the rules presented in Rise of the Runelords, such as prestige classes, weapons and religions.
And I don't think anyone's working on one yet. It would be rather pointless when so much is still changeable.

I'd recommend any of the fixes suggested here.
Also, as a Dream Dwarf, he'll be able to see ethereal creatures and he has a feat allowing him to detect the number of nearby creatures touching the ground.
It's been said that Pathfinder Companion #1 will essentially be the Second Darkness Player's Guide. So will Pathfinder subscribers get it with their copy of volume 13? If so, will we get a second one if we already have subscriptions?
