It's been awhile, so here it goes---- I hate Meepo the metal chewing pit bull, giant hippers from the Chandler skatepark, myspace.com, all 5 of my players that don't even own one(even one!!!) sourcebook, selecting feats and skills and spells and weapons for said players, vin diesel, pop culture these days where everyone wants to be "famous" w/o actually having any type of talent!??!!! P.S. I love d and d though :) I remember reading in a previous thread that Smenk would have "proof of ownership" for the observatory. My players tried to strike a deal with Smenk for the observatory(clear out dourstone mine=cheap rent). Hopefully they can find enough evidence on Smenk in the Dourstone mine to give them an upper hand when they get back to negotiating with the greedy landlord. I am curious to see how others are handling this as well. Valegrim wrote: I use a fanny pack; ouch! sorry vale, I had to do it :) I used to like Crown Royal but it is now added to the list of hard liquor that I can't even smell without dry heaving.(SoCo,Beam,etc..) I liked Beam until a girl I was dating convinced me to take a shot in the morning to cure a nasty hangover. Don't fall for that urban legend!! oh yeah....arghh. I am still looking forward to running this adventure though as my campaign needs a death to spice things up. My players will barge in to the temple without hesitation, and this adventure looks like it will make a group pay a hefty toll for not using smart tactics. They are 4th level though, will I need to bump any encounters up to ensure a tough fight? Thanks for the heads-up festivus. Seriously, anyone reading this thread needs to subscribe immediately and spread the word to support Paizo products. I have stated in other threads that Paizo has single-handedly lured me back in to D&D with a vengeance. Nothing against wotc, but Paizo has that "by the players, for the players" feel that no marketing team can imitate because it's genuine. Replacing the age of worms issues for this poor guy gives me a ray of hope in a time when I have been trusting humans less and less :) AoW set in the world of Greyhawk. The party has completed the whispering cairn and went on a side trek(home under the range) to toughen up for that ultimate beast of an adventure, "three faces of evil". Spleef Llewnroc- N Male Human Wizard 4 Boccob
Gaarbok Halfsnout- NG Male Half-Orc Fighter 4 Pelor
Jezlo Trumblay- LG Male Elf Ranger 4 Pelor
Fullob McLooty- NG Male Halfling Rogue 4 Pelor
Hojas Ormdugas- LG Male Half-Elf Cleric 4 Pelor
Edit: We really only have 4 pc's, but the party runs Hojas as the NPC cleric. It also makes me happy that my character is in the game, even if I have no control over him and can only watch as they feed him to the wolves. Lately, only 2 players have been consistently showing up, so someone might have to die soon :) Fake Healer wrote:
Celtic Frost will be coming through the states in a few months, but of course I am worried to go and destroy yet another good memory from my youth. I saw them with Exodus after "in to the pandemonium"(so-so record) and then scoffed at them a couple years later when all of the bad aspects of metal wore off on them. Morbid Angel is still one of the best bands of all time. They haven't released a bad album and they are up to "I" in the alphabet :) For some newer material that you might enjoy, I would recommend hunting down "where monsters dwell" by Portland's almighty Engorged! I can't believe it took this long for someone to mention........CARCASS!(up to necrotism) I was lucky enough to see Metal Church with "possessed" and it still rates high on my list of live shows. I get crap from other friends who didn't appreciate "the dark" when it came out, but I love that record! I was also lucky enough to catch Kreator right after "pleasure to kill" was released. Old Kreator is some of the best thrash of all time. Those crazy Germans are still touring now, but it will only ruin your good memories if you go see them haha For the 5th time, I want my AoWHC! I pledge to re-up my subs for 3 years when I place my pre-order as well. This AP will always be dear to me(even though the group is finally just getting ready to begin TFOE) because it actually helped me discover the world of greyhawk again. It is also fun to see the locations on the giant world of greyhawk map. I never realized just how many of those early AD&D modules that I played as a grom, were actually set in the wonderful world of greyhawk. This AP also brought our original group back together after a 9-10 year hiatus, so I feel like I owe Paizo a huge thanks and a pat on the back. Did I mention that all of us on these boards really, really want a HC?!?! janxious wrote: Has anyone here successfully ran Tomb of Horrors as a one-shot? I figure it might be acceptable for one just because your party is almost guaranteed to die before they hit the end, thus limiting the amount of time the dungeon takes. ;) I think they want the game to last longer than their lunchbreak :) All kidding aside, I have always wanted to run the TOH one-shot. Once again, I will have to mention "home under the range" from issue 134. It is fun for both new and old players, and it has a simple hook to get the game moving forward quickly. Good luck and have fun! Reading through this thread again reminds me of the very first time I heard about AD&D. A friend was telling me about how his older brother had been playing a game where you can do "anything" that you want to and fight rats and other vermin. This concept was so new and fresh to my young mind that I couldn't understand how a game allowed you to do all of these crazy things. Of course, I also thought that all of this "really" happened like another poster mentioned above. I have to admit that there hasn't been anything else to come along and trick my mind like the concept of AD&D did. Keep the stories coming! This thread is great. I have been downloading PDF's like crazy because I wanted to run AoW in Greyhawk. I only played the old adventures as a kid, so I never really knew the whole story behind the world I was playing in. It has been hard to get caught up for AoW and it would have been great to have a bundle of PDF's like this since there is no official Greyhawk campaign setting hardcover like the realms or eberron. I must admit that it has been fun digging through all of the old material though, even if it has been time consuming. I can remember so many of those old modules from the shelves of my old hobby shops, but I only played a very small percentage of them. Doomgrinder was a nice PDF for a little more info about the Cairn Hills. I remember getting off the plane at LAX when I was just a little idiot in the 80's with my "money stinks" shirt on, and some older suit came up to me and said "Well that depends if you s*** on it or not!" I also remember a great day in 1987 when we were going to lunch in junior high and we were all excited about D.R.I. playing that evening, when one of our friends says "Look man, there's Felix and Spike!" We all started laughing thinking he was messing with us until we looked across the street to the parking lot of the "chandler inn(AZ)" and we see them hanging out on a bench having a few beers. We ran over there and pestered them for a bit before heading back to class. It was so great as a kid to see one of our favorite bands and realize that they were just the same as us and it wasn't all a big marketing ploy. That day and the thrashing that was delivered that night completely changed how I viewed the world and opened my eyes to the true meaning of FREEDOM! I am going to go listen to "22 songs" on vinyl right now! We have 5 pc's at 3rd level running through the Age of Worms and I am using this adventure as a side trek to pump them up to level 4 before starting "Three Faces of Evil". The hook was very easy for this adventure as the group was getting confused on what to do next in the Age of Worms AP. The party wizard's mentor(Allustan) got in touch with the group and said he had received an urgent message from his dwarven friends. The dwarves were trapped in the underdark and needed help immediately and Allustan asked the PC's if they would go and help his friends while he researched everything the party had found in the AP so far. This added a sense of urgency and also made for a great moment as Dwarven General Farhorn looks at the PC's when they arrive and says "I see Allustan sent 5 of you to handle one of his solo jobs. Praise Moradin, we are doomed!" The party had fun rounding up a herd of beetles(they decided to go for 16) and I praise the Author for doing something a little different than the usual. I think any group of old or new players would highly enjoy the round-up part of the adventure, as it shows that anything is possible in D&D. The purple worm encounter was very tough for my group as I added a 2nd choker because the party had been cruising through everything to this point(long lucky dice streak). The dice streak ended at this point and one of the chokers grabbed our halfling rogue and started pulling him deep in to the worm's poisonous gizzard. The other choker grabbed our ranger and pulled him just inside the mouth of the worm. Our little Halfling used his last bit of strength to try and break free at 0 hp's, but failed and dropped to -1. If it wasn't for some quick thinking by the fighter who decided to try and cut them out of the side of the worm, the halfing would have been our group's first AoW obit post. The Halfling and choker burst out of the side of the worm and the halfling was quickly healed by the cleric as he reached -7. I am not sure if this is possible by the rules(purple worm hide, hardness etc..), but I decided to reward the fighter for his quick thinking and allow it to happen. Even with the party back together and fighting strong, the two chokers were almost too much for them. One last thing and question for all of you: The halfling found the trip-wire and crate of insects, but the party decided to keep the crate for future use. I explained that they could hear hundreds of tiny insects moving around in the box, so they decided to come up with a very smart plan(hehe)...strap the box to one of the beetle's backs and use it as a "secret weapon" if things start to go bad. hahaha! During last night's session we forgot about this and the group took care of the rider at the Pools of Pain and called it a night. They remembered the "secret weapon" after the session and were bummed they didn't get to use it. I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Would you guys let the crate be strapped to the beetle's back w/o the other beetles attacking it to get at the morsels inside? This seems like too good of a set-up to pass on, even if the beetles would instantly attack the crate. Just think about it...The PC's arrive at the excavation site, the dwarves are all cheering, party releases "secret weapon"! Evil? maybe....It's good to be the DM(king!) I really wish my players would write logs like the post above! As it is, I have to do everything for the whole group(even skills, feats on level-ups, etc..) If just one of my players wrote a sentence about his character or the game, I am sure my eyes would start swelling with tears. Celiwyn wrote:
Cool! My female pit named "6" is always called "sixee(6e)" and other variations of the word..er..number.. Let's hope she doesn't crush little Meepo as "six" weighs 120lbs. and is grossly overweight for a pit :( I named her after the girl "six" on that old show "blossom" and I also thought it would be funny to hear my mom and other relatives shouting 6.....6....6....at random in the neighborhood.I am running "home under the range" from 134 as a side trek for my party before they start "three faces of evil" in the Age of Worms. A couple encounters might have to be trimmed, but it's very original and fast-paced with the pc's escorting a herd of giant scarab beetles to some dwarves that are trapped in the underdark. Yee-haw!! The hook fits easily in to any setting because the dwarves need immediate aid, so there isn't time for the pc's to ask too many questions. Low-level adventure I would be very interested in seeing some of this RPGA content in dungeon. It would be cool to have a couple of tournament style 4-hour adventures to run at home. I don't know anything about the RPGA yet, so I have no idea how any of these adventures are converted. Maybe it's time for me to start going to some sanctioned events at my FLGS :) Meepo almost had to pray for a raise dead spell this morning. I barely open my eyes and the first thing I see is a hundred tiny chunks of paper scattered all over the floor. I thought he attacked a kleenex so I shrugged it off and got ready for the day. I was all cleaned up and ready to go when I remembered that I had to pick up Meepo's mess. I started grabbing all the little pieces and I noticed small bits of text and other images were on the shredded confetti(sp?). My heart stopped as I realized it was my limited edition print from the movie "Cannibal Holocaust"(perfect theme for the new AP, savage tide). I only blame myself and consider it a failed intelligence and handle animal check. I put everything of value on higher ground, so hopefully everything is "Meepo proof" in my house now. At least he didn't get the stack of hardcovers :)
