Totally. That's not what you're saying at all. What you appear to be doing is using the expression 'PFS book' in a way which contrary to the way I (and apparently Enevhar) understand the expression.
Good thing we all speak Common :) +1 one to that. :)

Using your example above. "Elves of Golarion" is not a Core Assumption book, there for it is not nessessary to have the book in order to play. If you would like to use material from that book, you should own and have a displayable electronic copy, a legal PDF copy or an actual printed copy of the book at the game table.
If your saying that I'm invalidating the "fluff" of the book, because it doesn't show up in chapter 13, nothing I have said actually states that and I wouldn't agree to that either.
I'm also not about to have to pass a test on what a player knows about "Elves of Golarion" before he can play a Elf.
Where are you getting that the setting material is invalid in PFS?

Zizazat wrote: I'm more interested to understand why you feel the Campaign Setting book, the world book that is the backdrop for PFSOP, is not a PFS book as you put it. Much for the reasons that Josh has pointed out. The verisimilitude factor.
And then there is the fact that if you start to say that any book that has any material that can be used in PFS is a PFS book, then you are going to start to overwhelm new player into thinking that they "gotta get them all."
The PFS core assumption are PFS books IMHO. The for a baseline for organized play. Everything else is the richly created material for GMs and players alike to bring their fantasy RPG to life. Yes there is crossover and I would encourage everyone to buy them, but they are optional but not mandatory unless you use approved material from them and then you need an electronic copy purchased from Piazo, a printed PDF purchased from Paizo or a book published from Paizo brought with you to the gaming table.
Do I want players immersed in Glorion facts, absolutely. Do I was people not showing up at my table because they feel like they can't afford to pay, no way.
It's not a PFS book, it's not part of the Core assuption of PFS books. And to take it one step forward; The PFCS is designed to be a book for general RPG play. It's not a focused book on Pathfinder Society play.
And I for the life of me don't understand what differance it makes that the PFCS needs to say "...the Empire of Taldor had made an effort at cultural streamlining and that all local languages where actually secundary to Taldane in all human lands."
It doesn't need to say that, for people playing the game outside of PFS, it's not important. I dare say that anyone just playing the game probibly don't know that there is a language called Taldane, and they just have common writen onto thier character sheet.
Markus Freeman wrote: I assume its not available for organized play? The answer is no. It doesn't appear in Chapter 13 of the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play.
The Grandfather wrote: Theocrat wrote: lots That would also be fine, if the PFCS had explicitly said, that the Empire of Taldor had made an effort at cultural streamlining and that all local languages where actually secundary to Taldane in all human lands. But it does not. I don't understand why it has to state that directly. PFCS is not a PFS book.
I'll go one set forward with this and suggest using Poster Razor. I just up the size of the pics from the pdf to give me the 1 inch squares and then print out the battlemat on 8 1/2" x 11 paper. Then use sissors to cut the parts and use a glue stick to fit them together in one big map. If I know that I'll use the map again, I cover it in contact paper.
It's not as nice as a flip mat, but it's pretty darn good and with contact paper I can use dry erase markers. I'm going to make my maps like this for GenCon.

Josh overbooked the session (perfectly reasonable) and three of us DMs ended up with nothing to do. If we had known sooner, we could have found other games to play in. (Since we didn't get to actually GM, I don't think we even got the PFS OP GM rewards for running a table...) I was one of those three DMs. I was actually pretty bummed that I wasn't able to play/DM anything that slot. If there could've been one or two people taken from tables and have a table with part DMs and part sign-ups it would've been awesome. This would've at least given the uneeded DMs to play and one to actually DM the adventure. Otherwise I just spent the time going to Fight Club and watching a table play through (and watching Nani almost win... again!). So it sounds to me that the muster could have been handled better. I wonder if people couldn't be spread around because of levels being to differant?
I know on Sunday, my game master didn't show up for Master of the Fallen Fortess and I actually volunteered to run since it would have left plenty of player without any game. While I was out of the room to get the mod from my stuff, there was some kinda "upset" for lack of a better term about splitting up some friends. but it couldn't have been to bad as the conversation was over by the time I got back to the table. My players were having a good time and no one was sitting around in our room with out a game.
Mustering is more art than science, it seems to me. you never can tell what will break it.

Understandable. I'm inching closer to my 30 game and trying to count my chickens as they hatch.

It was one of my favorite moments from the convention. Spit take, very nice...
When will our sessions be posted to our accounts? No rush, just wondering. I attended one session and ran one session.
I'll echo most everyone's comments, Hotel was good, the lounge was sub par. Ground transportation that the hotel provided was good and I have to say that being close to mass transportation was a big plus. My compliments to your civic planners out there. They are way more on the ball than Florida.
Another note aboput the lounge, I was there a day early and the seemed to have issues with a light crowd handling breakfast. Food is an after thought there.
Having Whole foods in walking distance was cool though. Never ate so healthy at a con before.
You might want to circulate a survey to the con goers.

The "if you don't want it, then don't buy it" argument is just as polite as giving someone the finger. Yes, I know I don't have to buy them. So what. Should I shut up?
Also it isn't fun when you start a campain and the monsters and enemies got a lot of new feats, spells, ablities that been around for a year, but you have no idea because you didn't get all the books. Nor is it fun when you notice you can't plan ahead because some rules have changed.
Yes, I know I don't have to buy them, but that's not the point. I just don't want Paizo to end up like WotC, but reading Eriks answer I feel more at ease.
Your being way, way , way over defensive here. Telling someone "if you don't want it, don't buy it" is a far cry from "giving someone the finger."
Your putting words in that person's mouth, and making it look like they are attacking you. That's not cool.
I'd have to say a big yes. I was just talking to James Sutter at PaizoCon about what a quality work the PFS adventures were.
The advantages are that you have bite sized, one night adventures that could be expanded to what ever length you want. Add or remove what ever you want, and have plenty of story arch to keep you busy for a long time. Some missions could be side treks.
On the other hand, you might like it so much that you might go PFS.
And now time for a smurf.

Nice Job Doug Doug. Thats a lot of good hard work.
Greg deserves a big pat on the back for this game. He made it fun to play (I'm the heavy set guy at the table) and watch.
I'm sure that everyone who watched or played will hold near and dear to their hearts the phase "where did that tentacle come from?" and "Lem's a man!?!?!?"
Just wanted to drop a second thanks in for the goblin brains Majuba. But moreover, congratulations on your engagement!
TwilightKnight wrote: Now that #51 has been played at PaizoCon, does anyone have any feedback on how it went. I will be running this one and it's sequel at Origins. I loved it. It sensed a little muddled in the middle, gathering info, but that might be more about the players rather than the mod.
I really like Kaer Maga.(I know I'm misspelling it) So it was fun to step around the city. It was nice to get a feel for the city and interact with the NPCs.
Over all it was alot oof fun.
Larry Wilhelm was our GM, the writer of chapters 3 and 4 of Devil We Know series of PFS. He was a great GM and once under way made the NPCs pop. If you get a convension slot with him, I highly recommend it.
I really am looking forward to season 2 mods with the "Shadow Lodge" theme both as a player and GM.

My wife and I discovered that someone snuck in our brains into our hotel room! Nice job! They are awesome!
Wow this was a lot of fun. Erik was a great GM and really put together a really good story. I'm pleased to say that we all made it through nearly why the skin of our teeth.
On behalf of swinetrekie and myself I'd also like to say that we enjoyed just how much we fun with the other players at our table. Very supportive group that hung together.
Can't wait until next year.
Oh, and Umbicano must die.....
We hates him!

Get the while the last!
Yea you have an interesting one there.
I used to help manage casts of renaissance festivals in multiple cities and I can tell you there will always be some one out the gate that wants to be the character from out in left field. The want to do that because they think it will help the stretch as a "actor" or in this case role-player. If you can keep that in mind, you can almost sympathize with them.
The thing I would remind my player ( a term that crosses through both backgrounds) is that the thing that stands out for your character is when the action is flying. Being prepared for action and handling it well is better than all the background fluff you have prepared.
That why many adventures drop you into the action so fast, it's better than monologs of how and why you act the way that you do.
Jowl's advice is really good. I'm glad that you looking to it. It gives a good in game answer to you problem.

3 count them, 3 Michael Moorcock books, one map pack slums, one module, one set of cards and what was already mentioned in the blogs. I'm impressed.
Everyone seems to be in good spirits. Had breakfast at the hotel and had a good conversation with some gamers from Australia. (a father and daughter team). They were joined by a friend from here in the states. They were fun to talk to, I hope we get to have a game with them later.
While in line for tickets we were flies on the wall as Lisa was telling Greg Vaughan how she and others can up with the idea of plot twist cards years ago. Apparently an earlier incarnation was called whimsey cards and Dave Arneson was one of the first people to purchase a set. which made than very happy.
Hope I'm not being to intrusive by telling this story. I'm a sucker for any kind of "back in the early days" stories, doesn't really matter what they are about.
The wife and I are resting up for Spire of Nex, Erik Mona's double session game. We're really looking forward to it.

Hiwever, even with the quotes, frequently it is unclear what the poster is saying "me, too" to; or something they say in the rest of their post contradicts their "me, too"ness. That is what I meant by weird.
And it seems a waste of bandwidth to post if you have nothing new to add to the conversation. Whether or not you consider my remark worth is really not the point. I agreed with the the person I was responding to, and felt like I wanted them to know I agreed with them. There is plenty of "bandwidth" to go around.
As you look around the boards you will see that the "+1" usage frequently. If you have the time you can really make this really scary. Due to some bad rolls it was almost a TPK, but due to a member of the party getting creative, saved all of the party. (and I didn't have to bend the rules!)
