Backstory: :

The result of an elicit affair between a haughty and selfish noblewoman and her elvish consort, Moldren was caught in a social order tight spot. Too high-born to be killed or forgotten entirely but a half-breed bastard so far too controversial to be kept at court. The solution was an obvious one - send him off to be a knight, far far away. And so that is exactly what they did. His mother sent him from a very young age to live at the Citadel of the Order of the Nail whose mission of spreading civilization kept them on the frontiers. However, what was intended to be a place best left to forget the bastard ended up being the best thing for him.

Moldren Gresham, as it turned out, had a knack for that sort of hardy life on the run and in particular had an affinity for getting along with the usually taciturn and harsh knights. Even the horses he found trained much more easily with him than with the other squires. He quickly found himself a keep favorite and was soon groomed to be something of an ambassador for the order among nobility. He also quickly developed fighting style that took full advantage of his brash personality, seeking to bring gladiatorial style feats and showmanship to normal combat. He found that an embarrassed foe was a foe who made mistakes. And a foe who made mistakes was a dead foe.

He continued to learn to dance and schmooze as a part of his role as goodwill ambassador and, perhaps as a result of his breeding, he found that it all came extremely easily. It was in this capacity that he found himself running in the same circles as his mother and quickly ran afoul of real trouble among the social elites of Cheliax. He was a bastard and his mere presence made problems for what was nominally his house. In order to exit the perils of court in Cheliax, Moldgren requested a special assignment that took him away from all of that and the order, finding that his presence at court had painted the Order of the Nail in a very particular sort of political trouble a plan was soon hatched.

They planned to publicly expel Gresham from the order in order to give him cover to go undercover in Isger. The order had received word that the Andorans had planned to move into the wild area to settle it, long a goal of the Order of the Nail that they were unable to get political cover to pursue. They wished to bring order to the area and it was vital that someone with the right views on civilization involved in the project and it, conveniently, pulled Moldren out of danger's path. The plan involved Moldren going into Andoran and making a name for himself in the right circles to try and attract the attention of the military command in Andoran and get assigned to the Isger mission once it got going. His masters really know their politics, because the plan worked exactly as intended and now Moldren Gresham could serve as something of a missionary of the law and double agent for the Order of the Nail. In Gresham's view the opportunity to play a major role in bringing the order's mission to fruition, even if in a different way than usual marked an incredible opportunity. And they were being set up as the master's of a keep? It seems opportunities to be involved with nobility just continued to come to him.
