(in Aklo)
Mostly that they are our friends. And you?

Ahz continues to consider ways across the chasm.

(following general group rules of play me if I'm AFK)...

Caydee takes a shot!
to hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Caydee is usually gone for the weekend, but in case shes extended busy I'll take a shot for her!

Fubar, sounds like a plan to me - I crashed my motorcycle a few weeks ago and broke a couple ribs, still not in shape to take over so you keeping on is great for me. And good to help the new members ease in too of course :)

Corerue, you coming?

Main game thread:
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/playByPost/theMasters Forge&page=last

And remember to take off the space in the middle of the URL - not sure hwy it adds those.

WB Heaven!

Corerue and Heaven, you're up!
Please sign up for Obsidian Portal if you havent and post your OP username so we can get you an invite. And post a hello message on the main game thread so we know you're ready!

Technically KD goes after the rest of us, but since we all go after the bad guys, 'You' just means everyone. So fire at will :)

Krill, I think you're up?

Looks good Corerue - write that up in an alias, and write it up on Obsidian Portal as well please (post your OP username here and Fubar will drop you an invite to our campaign there).

Sounds good Heaven!

Corerue please write up a character - any race/class is fine, we have the basics covered.

Heaven, maybe update yours to level 3, and add equipment for the difference in starting gold, or make a new character, as you like. Still going to give Calumny until Thursday to make a final decision on that.

You're welcome to stay or go as you please - in all honesty Heaven did most of the world building in the beginning, and we have only been slowly adding to it. Your choice, you have until thursday - if you still prefer to opt out, Heaven is up.

Corerue, how are things going with you?

http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/mastersforge/wikis/player-character- guidelines

try that..it added a space last time for some reason - hm seems to do that sometimes...just copy and paste the address and take out the space before the word guidelines

Any other link not working?

Bilbo and Sunphoenix72 are at the front of the line if they are still watching the thread, Calumny then Corerue, and Heaven in the wings (glad to see you again!).

Bilbo hasn't posted in a couple months and Sunphoenix72 was looking for more of a PFS game as I recall, so it will probably be Calumny and Carerue. I will give them a week to respond if they still want to play, so next Thursday pm US time will be decided - Calumny and Corerue go ahead and get characters ready.

We are now level 3. Everything else about the game remains the same, so go ahead and make your characters level 3 (following the character creation rules on OP) and backstories would be great!

OP link to creation rules:
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/mastersforge/wikis/player-character- guidelines

Though of course its level 3 now, and go with maximum hp for every level.

Heres shorthand, with edits to make it current:

Starting Level Level 3
Alignment Non-evil, no CN
Race Selection Any standard race presented in the Pathfinder Core Rules or the AGP
Class Selection Any standard class presented in the Pathfinder Core Rules or the APG
Ability Scores 25 points (point buy method)
Feats No crafting feats other than Scribe Scroll, Brew Potion, and Craft Wand
Traits Two traits selected from This List(http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits) must be of different types (Combat, Faith, Magic, etc.)
Starting Wealth Starting gold based on level.

And here we are again, need to refill 2 spots. THose still in line get first dibs if they want, otherwise going in order of posts...

Let me know!

Sounds good! Sorry I havent been around much, recovering from a motorcycle accident and some broken ribs.

We back down to...4?

/dance!
WB KD!!

Works for me. Good luck K! Thanks for stepping up Fubar. Vardara/Krill, you need to decide whos up for DM next!

Back!!
Sort of. Cant get more than about 1mbs out of this line, but it'll work for PbP.

Moving in the am. Off net for a week or so. Be back when I can!

Krill, Vardara, you around somewhere?

memory:

Page 9, about post 430 or so, is where it started. We were in the valley pursuing the Tengu who had the metal man on a giant tobaggin. As I recall.

Nice, good to level before the move. By the way, moving in 2 weeks - expect to be off the net for only a week or so, but you never know. Will be packing computer friday, March 25.

1700 each? so we're at 4600 xp each now?

By the way, we are past the end of Fubar's turn - Caydee, you're up whenever you're ready!

Well, normally I have critical fumbles instead do a normal or critical hit to ones friend or oneself. I would suggest slushball directly into Fubar's nose.

Sorry to hear it Robbo...take care

Just forums so far at http://www.sunshinesrus.com/forum

And really guys, sign up for my forums...its going to be a slow development process, but I'm going to be working on both a PbP system and a virtual TT system there, and I will need gamers for testing it :)

Getting my server and dev environment set up. Have forums going so far - go to http://www.sunshinesrus.com/forum and register.

So, I have had two people who do this, and I have been told it was specified in 3.5 this way, but I cannot find a very clear specific ruling one way or another in pathfinder.

The question is - if someone casts a cure spell, casting while NOT in a threatened square, then they touch an ally in an adjacent square and the square their friend is in IS threatened, does the threatening enemy get an AoO on the healer, who has reached into the threatened square but not moved there?

So healer casts spell from safe square, and stands in safe square, but casts on ally in threatened square.

And what if healer casts spell from safe square, then moves to threatened square, and touches ally, thus finishing spell?

Now a couple people have insisted that reaching into the threatened square opens the healer up to an attack of opportunity. I disagree.

My argument is that, according to core rules pp.185-186 on touch spells in combat, that the touching part is considered a free action (listed on pg.188 as 'don't take any time at all' and stated that they 'rarely incur attacks of opportunity'). Also, 'if you touch anyone or anything, even unintentionally, the spell discharges' tells me that only incidental contact with any portion of the body is necessary. Lastly, since there are specific rules for deciding if touching an enemy incurs an attack of opportunity, I have always basically assumed that touching a friend does not. I would even argue that doing the touch part while the healer is standing in a threatened square would not incur an AoO if he was touching a friend.

Their arguments are: that the description of cure spells is 'lay your hand' upon them, which takes mroe commitment than a casual touch; that some free actions may incur an attack of opportunity and that action is not specified either way; that the only place anything is specified for touching is for a full round action of touching up to 6 people as part of a touch spell, which does incur an AoO (though I would argue that this is a separate type of action (full round, not free) and only incurs AoO if you are in a threatened square, not if the friends you will touch are).

I guess that I think the spirit of the touch spells in combat rule is that only the casting (and moving if you move out of a threatened square) can draw an AoO. And the rule in Core Rules pg. 180, under Attacks of Opportunity - Provoking an Attack of Opportunity states 'Two kinds of actions can provoke attacks of opportunity: moving out of a threatened square and performing certain actions within a threatened square.' While you are touching someone who is in a threatened square, I don't think the healer is within a threatened square, so should not be subject to AoO, definitely when not touching from a threatened square. And I still think the touch action on a friend should not ever draw an AoO.

Thoughts? Specific rulings from Paizo would be more handy.

Thanks

Or whenever you're ready Fubar...that's about all I have ready and I think I overran my turn a bit, so whenever is good for you.

Fubar grunts in pain, still looking a bit banged up (currently at 14hp down). You all look at the still figure of the bear corpse, huge even in death. And behind you, a small mewling sound comes to your ears as the baby bear goes to its dead mother.

And with that, I leave Fubar to take over. XP from Ogre fight = 1600/4 = 400, XP from bear fight = 1600/6 = 267, total from fights = 667, which I will round to 700, and add 100 for roleplaying and meeting new members and working on quests. Total xp = 800 (giving the same to all to keep everyone even, though new people werent in the ogre fight), so everyone should have 2900 xp now (a mere 400 short from level 3).

Vardara stamps her little foot and swings her huge hammer...and connects with the base of the bear's skull. There is a sharp 'crack', and the bear topples to the side.

Fubar, who you swore you saw swoon into unconsciousness jsut a second before, grimaces in determination and calls to his God, and heals himself for 4 points of damage. (putting him at 24 - 4 = 20hp down).

Vardara, sorry about all the random chat in the middle, still your turn

Fubar: and of course we have to hope Vardara doesn't role a nat 1 and brain you with her hammer ;). By the way, new guys, I have some home rules for crits and fumbles I use, I'll look them back up and re-post them.

No problem - Fubar, that puts you up as next DM. Hm, maybe I shouldn't squeeze the life out of you ;)

Sorry Krill, I meant turn at DM, not combat turn. Duly noted for when we get back around to you though!

Krill, you going to want a turn now, or should Fubar start getting geared up for his turn?

Caydee takes careful aim, and fires at point blank range. Due to inspiration from Robbo's dance (+1 to hit and damage) and the bears distraction from mauling Fubar, the arrow slides in between two of its ribs and it roars in pain as it takes 8 points of damage.

On the other side of that coin, please remember to add all bonuses for traits and effects and such affecting you...I miss some myself sometimes, so I occasionally spot check other peoples...I just happened to notice Krill and Caydee's this round. But please keep a note of these.

Vardara, you're up! Fubar, I'll apply that just after Vardara.

Krill delivers a decent blow to the bears right ear...

dice rolls:

save:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

...which obviously causes the bear pain, but not the stunned look Krill was going for. Krill, if I'm not wrong, there should be another 2 points of damage there? +1 for dirty fighter since you're flanking, and +1 for Robbo's Inspire Courge?

Caydee, you're up!

I had thought I'd manage a bit of the trip as well, but I think this combat will finish off my month at the DM helm. Volunteers for next shift? Because the new guys just started, I won't insist it is one of their turns yet, but if one wants to volunteer feel free. If neither does, then the current order is fubar-caydee-vardara-me, so its Fubars turn next (again, depending if Krill and/or Robbo want to jump into the DM seat yet).

Hoppin' Robbo starts....hopping. It is a strangely pursuasive dance that makes you all feel a bit mroe bold and sure of yourselves....

Meanwhile, mamma bear attempts to squeeze the life out of Fubar...

dice rolls:

to maintain grapple: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

...and appears to be successfulyl as she squeezes hard, causing 12 months of damage. Fubar slips into unconsciousness in her grasp...

Fubar is at 21-9+12 = 24 damage, which I believe puts you at -2 hp

Krill, you're up!

Vardara swings her mighty maul, but fails to connect with the bear.

Fubar calls upon his god's aid, but in his weakened state only manages a spark of healing, healing 1 point of damage. He also tries to wriggle free of the bear's grasp, but fails.

Ahz reaches over and speaks more words of healing, causing some of Fubar's worse wounds to close and healing 8 points of damage.

Robbo, you're up

Caydee pulls back another arrow and fires again at point blank range, being careful not to hit any of her friends, but the arrow doesn't manage to pierce the bears thick hide.

Also, new people, we mention our actions out of turn sometimes to help things flow better/faster. This may be subject to interpretation by the DM when your turn does come up if anything has changed. Feel free to do this or not, as you wish

Vardara, you're up!

Krill throws a mighty punch which might have broken the skull of a human, but it seems to glance off the polar bears thick hide.

Not sure if you meant you counted grappled condition or I should, but either way you don't quite hit. In the future, to avoid any confusion, count your conditions, etc and I'll deal with the enemies conditions, etc. I assume the extra +2 you applied was for flanking. On the plus side, because you tried to grapple the bear last turn, you are next to it, and only need a 5' step to flank it across from Vardara. Because of this, if you want to turn that into a flurry attack and did not because you did not think you had a full round attack available, feel free to make your extra attack (on the other hand, if you simply took a single attack for accuracy, then let it stand).

Caydee, you're up!

The mamma bear, in a rage, decides to hug Fubar...tight...while biting down on his shoulder again...

dice rolls:

grapple:1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21
roll to fumble:1d20 ⇒ 15
damage:1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

...almost loses her grip, but manages to hold on and chews another 11 points out of Fubars hide. (thats 20-10+11 = 21 current damage)

Krill, you're up!

Fubar tries to break free of the bear's grasp, but appears to be weakened by the massive loss of blood.

Ahz steps over and speaks healing words, which stop the flowing blood but do little else. (Fubar you are healed for 3 points from Ahz' spell).

Robbo, you're up!

Caydee, standing takes a move action and picking up you bow takes another move action, which doesn't leave any extra actions for firing. Because you can't fire anything but a crossbow from a prone position, I am going to assume you use your actions to stand up, and to pick up your bow. Note that you are still standing next to the bear.

Free actions - always a question of whether or not you can perform them when it is not your turn, including for speaking, etc. Because I am going to rule on this that the bear cannot take a free action to release the grapple, I am going to stick with that ruling from now on - which means that you can only take free actions on your turn. Because the bear has the grappled condition, it does nto get attacks of opportunity, and cannot attack Caydee when she stands up. I considered allowing it the option of releasing the grapple on Fubar to take a swipe at Caydee, but because of the Free Action decision it cannot.

Caydee stands, and quickly reaches down to pick up her bow and knocks an arrow.

Vardara lets out an icy scream and charges, swinging her maul with ease....

I can't seem to find a rule for attacking someone involved in a grapple, though I think there at least used to be one. But since I can't find anything at the moment...

...and connects squarely with the shoulder of the bear, at which time there is a loud 'SNAP' and the bear's roar is almost defening.

Fubar, you're up!

Krill moves over and attempts to grab the bear, but the bear rolls away from it.

Caydee, you're up.

Mamma bear turns to the guy that just hit her and attacks...

dice rolls:

Fubar current AC 18 due to charge -
to hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
to hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
to hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Grab/grapple (15, vs CMD 18 looks like): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

..and rakes her claws across Fubars ribs, then bites down on his shoulder, causing a total of 20 points of damage. She also grabs him into a bear hug.

initiative order:
bear
Krill
Caydee
Vardara
Fubar
Ahz
