GM HP Tracker:

Crocotta1 3/26 [Escape]
Crocotta2 -5/26 [dead]
Leucrotta 3/57 [Melee with Vik]

Suny prowls across the rain-soaked jungle with such expertise she hardly leaves a bootprint behind as she creeps up behind the big badger critter--who's now talking, apparently. Unfortunately, the poor, muddy footing hardly lets her get any force behind her blows. While she strikes the beast, it turns its head at a wonky, impossible angle to sneer at her through too-large teeth.

Finishing botting Nhati for this fight. Nhati, bloody and barely standing, conjures another handful of magical missiles to stop the biggest of the beasties.

MagicMissile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) + 3 = 10

Bloody from Reijo's counterattack but frenzied on the taste of blood, the big badger-thing ducks low and goes for the leg--a maneuver that looks doubly strange with its strange gait. It scores not only a deadly bite, but drags Reijo to the ground!

GM Rolls:

Atk: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 2 = 18
Dmg: 2d6 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 - 2 = 8
Trip: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 2 = 21

Reijo takes 8 damage and is tripped!

The other creature continues its flight, taking the meat pinata with it as it disappears into the thick undergrowth.

A large (and rather ornery) rat falls from the aether as Bellamy finishes his summoning incantations, while Ol' Salty graces the party with the blessing of Gozreh--between the rain and wind falling on the jungle, you might just be getting double the blessing. The rat leaps for the nearest of the baddies, scrambling to gnaw on the biggest badger's leg. It does not seem to notice.

Rat: 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 14

Round 3 Starts Here:

Viktorra lunges at the badger, keeping clear of its teeth as she battle back with the fury of Besmara...

Rapier: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 1 = 27
AwYeahKeen: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 1 = 30
Crit: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 4) + 10 = 20

...which is no small amount of fury. The beast staggers back from the blow, but only looks more angry (if that's possible?).

Reijo, flat on his back between a pair of badgers, shrugs off his condition and figures the only thing to do when your back's to the proverbial (or horizontal, in this case) wall is to fight yer way out. He puts his cutlass through the bottom of the jaw that bit him, spraying blood across his already rain-soaked clothing, then swings an axe up into the big-boss-badger beside him, bringing bloody benediction for Besmara's band. (Please stop me.)

The moderately sized badger-thing does down, and the big 'un has taken a hell of a beating!

Wounded, bloody, and barely standing, the big badger glares unflinchingly into Viktorra's eyes. "This cursed Isle may take me, but it will take all of Besmara's foolish faithful first!"

More GM Rolls:

Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Hoof: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Hoof: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Dmg: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 2) + 7 = 12

Its massive jaws close around Viktorra's arm, tearing a huge gash up her sleeve!

Viktorra takes 12 points of damage!

Round 3:Whew. Lots of catchup. Suny, Nhati, Bellamy, and Ol' Salty are up (followed by Vik and Reijo back at the top of the order)!
Ini Order: Viktorra, Reijo, BigBeastie, Suny, Nhati, Bellamy, Ol' Salty

Sorry for the confusion! Behold my amazing artistic talents!

The brambles are about 50 feet wide and, while they appeared to encircle the clearing you were at, also seem to extend for quite a distance in either direction--basically leaving you will a wall of nasty thorny bits cropping up through the jungle.

The path you found is basically a little ditch underneath the brambles, probably dug by something. Or the thing Lil' Fisher found down there. You can duck down and look clear through the other side from whichever side you're standing on, and you can pass through it by squeezing without worrying about getting all cut up in the brambles. This may upset whatever it is you've found in there.

Other options are, of course, limited only by your imagination and ingenuity.

"Indeed, the light of lady Aisling much prefers action to inaction... and death does tend to slow one down a bit." Diarmal peers into the casket and reaches a hesitant hand towards the body, laying his palm on what used to be the chest of the deceased.

In his native elven, he murmurs a quiet prayer to the gods. "May Lady Aisling see the justice in returning artifacts of her glory to the light of the sun. May the interred rest forever in the heavens in her radiance, knowing the import of their sacrifice here and now. May I, as but a humble servant, do them both great honor with my actions."

Doing his best to avoid disturbing any of the other relics, Diarmal starts to remove the robe.

Linguistics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Diarmal runs his hand over the text as he translates the old tongue. The words are jumbled, likely from the difference in dialect a few dozen centuries can bring. Or perhaps more, Diarmal notes as he glances around the chamber. He keeps a lighted arrow in hand, running it along the wall to direct attention to particular words as he speaks.

"Seems to be something about a betrayer of some kind... The names are Afalon Moradrul here, and Belrasande here, though it is difficult to tell which is doing the betraying in such ancient text. There's also mention of the Beauvingian goddess Moloween--here--which is unusual, even in such an old Drasbian tomb. I suspect whoever the betrayer is, they have been interred here as a punishment."

So I've contacted FMC (I know the guy) and apparently he's having issues accessing the site. He's tried from all of his devices, tried from multiple buildings and computers, and even tried to have a bunch of other people access paizo.com.

Apparently there's just some issue with connecting to the website from South Korea. I suspect perhaps he got caught up in the great war against the Korean spambots that keep posting all over the forums in the middle of the night. He's contacting Paizo about finding a resolution, and I've asked him if he wants me to play middleman GM and post his posts for him while this is all resolved. (He is considering this, but also doesn't want to give me other people's spoiler text.)

He also wants to say he's sorry for the delay this has caused ;.;

@Reijo + Items - that's fine, you have no problem getting either of those from Iulia. She does look at you a little sideways when you ask for the dye, though...

@Vik - The Sword and Pistol line is really cool, but too feat-intensive to really be any good imo. Opening Volley gives you a bit of a boost to that combat style without being super feat heavy, but doesn't actually help with the whole 'use both at once' thing.

Likewise, since you've already gone the Dex route I wouldn't dip into Power Attack. It's really solid, but it doesn't really seem like Vik's style. You've already got lots of blessings and magic to boost up your melee ability, so I think Salty's on point with increased mobility options. Since you're not too concerned about TWF, then dancing around and losing full attacks isn't a huge issue, it's more about putting the pain where you want it.

I wouldn't mind reflavoring the Savage Technologist, but I'd have to keep the morale bonus as Str and Dex. Without the penalty to AC to go with the rage, the extra durability is just super cake without any real balancing point to it. It's also worth noting that dipping into that would effectively give you back your feat choice for Exotic Weapon Prof (firearms), since it's included in the class.

Also, in the interest of fairness, Reijo has asked to replace a feat with one that was previously unavailable when the character was created.

If there's anyone else that wants to do some tweaking to your character to better fit your concept, let me know. I'm almost entirely okay with minor changes that help you match the character you want to play. I know well that not everything that looks like it works on paper actually works in practice.

This seems as good a time as any to mention...

You've all leveled up to 5, just in time for the real pirate adventure to begin!

As we set sail, you won't have to micromanage the daily life aboard a pirate ship but will likely be contributing to its operation in some non-mechanical manner suited to your skills. Likewise, you'll have a chance to interact with the more interesting of the Magpie Princess' crew to make all manner of friends and enemies during your search for plunder and peril!

I'll add a list of all interesting NPCs besides the nameless crewmen keeping the boat afloat once we get underway.

Going to wait a day to let everyone consider Hyrix's plea before letting Cap'n Lanteri perform a coup de grace.

Also, I love you guys. You're definitely one of the more awesome groups I've played with, and love the interaction between you as players and your characters.

I agree with Salty that, while RP-wise it's perfectly cool, theft in the party is a slippery slope. If you'd like to keep it as a theft for roleplay purposes, that's perfectly fine--but keep in mind that, for the purposes of fair gameplay, the other players can take the 'missing' loot out of the share you would have gotten. To be fair, I can't imagine that there will be an inequitable share of treasure among this group, even if the ever grumpy, perpetually greedy Reijo has his eye on the shiniest piece in every hoard. As said, you guys are awesome.

On that note, this first part of the adventure is basically wrapped up. Its treasure distribution is a little lopsided, leaving it in perhaps two (was it three?) places. I can also assure you that the coming pirate-ventures have plenty of shinies to go around in a more normalized distribution.

@Reijo - you can totally use the shortswords as daggers, if you'd like.

While I hate the idea of forcing anyone out of the game, if it really is upsetting you so much then maybe it would be best to dip out. It's just a game, after all!

At this point I think the problem really stems from differing styles; I've not read Tyanos' posts with any sense of hostility beyond the average (and stereotypically dwarf-to-elf) bickering. I don't think Tyanos has any real intent to control anyone's actions--he's merely playing the self-interested and practical merchant. He rolls his eyes at Dendarial because Den is simply far less interesting in making a profit and sticking it out for himself--Den's more the natural-world type.

Consequently, the problems seem to arise when Den and Tyanos have it out (in character!) on something related to that. The wyrm, for instance, can be summed up something like this:

T: This thing just tried to eat me, it's going to do it again, it should die.
D: Most wild animals would try to eat you. Should we kill all of them?
T: If they've already tried to eat me, probably.
D: We should at least try to communicate with the beast before we kill it!
T: F**K that noise, I'm not getting almost-eaten again; I'm outta here!

And again, I have no problem with in-character conflict like this. I don't see Tyanos' refusal to deal with the wyrm as any more railroading-the-group's-action's than Dendarial's insistence to try and communicate with it/find its lair/whatever else. Having characters that don't always get along is part of the fun in roleplaying them... but when it starts to get disruptive to the game, or starts to drive you mad OoC, then something's got to change. (Also again) I don't want to force anyone to leave a game they don't want to leave. I'd much rather things be settled in a peaceful manner or, failing that, have someone bow out gracefully rather than being tossed out the door.

Thoughts?

It's as GM Angelina says; Marius is still new to this whole religious thing and doesn't really think of himself as angel-touched or on any holy mission or anything of the sort. In his past experiences with religious folk things didn't go particularly favorably, so he's a little wary of all of this. He trusts the group not just because of the dreams, but also because we've survived trials and tribulations together.

If it was solely an OOC decision, I think the cathedral would be a better option if only for defense.

Marius bites his tongue, knowing that anything he wanted to say would certainly not help their reputation. This man was exactly the sort of reason he stayed out of cities. He remains near the back of the group, watching the mayor's guards for any signs of foul play. Everything about the Lord Mayor was practiced and artificial; there wasn't a hint of sincerity in any of it. Marius makes a mental note to never turn his back on this man...

Marius would be most inclined to speak to the general, since he's the one with the most practical ability to help deal with little demon things running about. His second choice would be Gerry, simply because he doesn't care for politicians or popes, and while a good bed is a good thing to have, the Innkeeper might not be very helpful.

Sorry for the delay, I hope the mothers among us had a good holiday!

I'm inclined to agree that dumping it is probably the more sensible action... but then again, it's magical and shiny and powerful, so what else really matters? I'm sure nothing terrible would happen wearing it around your neck with a bunch of pyromaniac imps on the loose!

We really need someone to identify it before we try wearing it into the next (literal) firefight.

After getting the mules somewhat calmed ('calm' may have been a bit of an exaggeration, given the circumstances), Marius sat down beside the wagon and sighed as he surveyed the damage.

"We could probably get her fixed up... but it's going to take a while." With a bit of spit, Marius rubbed his hands together and called on that strange power within himself. It was starting to make a lot more sense, given the circumstances of the past few days... but it still made him a little uneasy. Angelic power and demonic fire was all a bit above his pay grade.

Slowly--very slowly--the pieces of the wagon begin to knit back together as the magic takes effect.

"A long while. I'm inclined to agree with Chap, unless we really need this thing..."

Marius does indeed have mending! But it's a little slow...

Marius once more wakes with a start, reaching for his weapon as he instinctively rolls to the side to avoid the blow he only imagined was coming. A sigh of relief escapes when he sees the battle has ended. He gladly grabs Eli's hand and pulls himself to his feet.

"Guess so... Thanks. What a flippin' day. Feel like I had a front row seat for the burning of Endurant."

Rex sat panting near where the imp had fallen. The wolf's eyes were locked on the creature, as though in disbelief it was truly dead. Marius offered a pat upon his friend's head as he headed to try and calm the mules.

Fumbling down off of the bucking mule, Marius reaches for the other silver arrow. Saving it for later seemed stupid, considering there might not be a later if this thing did that again...

Marius was not a particularly religious man, but he sure hoped all the saints in the sky were watching right now. He took aim and said a prayer to anyone and anything that might be listening.

Marius' eyes shoot open to a wave of flame washing over the group. Wracked with pain, he can only turn his head enough to see the flaming remains of all of their supplies a dozen feet to the right. Beneath him the world shook in panic. Somewhere, Eli is shouting for help. Elsewhere, Rex is barking like it's the end of days. It sure felt like it.

Gritting his teeth, the hunter digs deep and tries to pull out some of the hardy constitution he'd always had. Of course, he'd never been burnt quite this badly before. He could feel his skin - what was left of it - crawling all over his body. Steeling his nerves, he pulled what was left of himself together. His friends - his family - was burning alive around him.

Using a swift action to apply aspect of the bear to myself, giving +2 Con and the accompanying +2 temporary HP.

Lifting his head, he can see a bat-winged creature flying high in the sky above. The mule he was riding on was still alive, somehow. It was terrified and bucking, but Marius was so out of it he could hardly feel it. He spotted Eli, pointing a bow skyward. It was all Marius needed to know. He reached for his bow, acting on instinct, and found it where he'd left it, somehow still in one piece. He brought it up while his hands sought the silver arrow he'd been given. Putting shaft to string, he took aim and fired skyward.

Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Greetings!

I think I'm still in shock that I actually made it to the Top 32! Not really sure if it'll ever actually go away...

So... I'm Matt Roth, but I go by Helio most of the time pretty much everywhere. Somehow my students know that's my 'other' name, despite me never actually telling them. Like the other Matthew, I teach English! And while I'm not from Philly, I am from Jersey, so that's almost the same thing? I started gaming about 10 years ago, when my uncle introduced me to 3.5, and I was immediately hooked. I'm a wannabe writer (and game designer), professional procrastinator, and generally cool dude.

Glad to be counted among greatness! Congrats everyone!

Stable Talk:

Marius heaves a heavy sigh, casting glances at the passerby, his sleeping companions - cousins, even - and the wolf sitting beside him. The relative tranquility of the town was a stark reminder of the eerie peace in the ruins of Endurant. The ruins were etched into his mind. Another failure to add to his growing list of ill-fated attempts at heroism. And Sister Azmaria had departed before addressing his question, thanks to the aptly timed arrival of their companions. A growing unease in the pit of his stomach told him he'd only just made things worse. Their 'family' was a bit of a wreck already. They didn't need a wandering woodsman to make things worse.

He leaned his head back against the cool wood of the stable, his eyes wandering over to the other babysitters. "Well," he mumbles, his best attempt at small-talk conversation, "these have been a strange few days. Can't say I'd ever imagined I'd have this big of a family." A bit of an understatement, but true enough. "Don't suppose any of you saw this coming? A feeling, or another one of those dreams, or nothing?"

Happy Holidays [whichever one(s) you may or may not choose to celebrate]!

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Ever wanted to taste the life of a pirate without that whole 'scurvy swab' experience when signing on as a fresh and prospective pirate? Then fret no longer, for Plunder and Peril has arrived to ease your piratical itch without driving you mad with the rigors of everyday sailing life. Nothing but guts, gold, and glory await thee on this adventure!

Then read on for Plunder and Peril!

It is the eve of the Rum Punch festival in the town of Lilywhite. A ceremony celebrating the Lucky Drunk in all of his typical festiveness, it attracts not only pirates from across the Shackles, but travelers from across the Inner Sea seeking a taste of the pirate lifestyle (or at least a good pirate party). Whether you are one of these travelers, or a native of Motaku Isle, or perhaps an out-of-work pirate who's found himself at Rum Punch, one thing is for certain: no festival of Cayden Cailean ever passes without great adventure and amusement... and who knows what kinds of treasures may turn up in a town full of drunks hoping to get lucky?

Character creation:
- 20 point buy, 4th level.
- Core Races preferred, but any race can be accepted. Just make sure you have a backstory to justify that half-tiefling half-tengu half-cat half-brick character!
- Any class except summoner is allowed (sorry guys, I hate summoners). I'm on the fence about allowing the Occult Playtest classes, so if you think you can convince me, go for it.
- 2 Traits. I'm willing to reflavor a campaign trait if there is one that fits your character concept, just ask. You can take an additional drawback+trait if desired.
- Given the context of the adventure, evil alignments will be considered – just don't play a total and complete jerk. Jerks are not accepted :)
- Appropriate starting wealth for 4th level PCs (6000 gp)
- Max HP at first, Average+1 on subsequent levels.
- Backstories are appreciated, but don't feel compelled to write a novel (unless you really want to). You can keep your background as brief as you like it, just be sure to have some reason to be in Lilywhite and have a general taste for adventure!

Other Stuff:
- Players should be able to post at least once a day on most days, and at least once on weekends. We all know life comes up and things happen, but if you disappear for multiple days at a time with no notice, that's a big no-no.
- Anything Paizo is good to go. 3rd Party content will be considered on a case by case basis.
- I prefer running cinematic combat, but if a grid is really needed I'll provide it. I find that using grids and maps slows down the game far more than necessary, so I'll try to avoid using them for combat as much as possible.
- Generally looking for flavor and RP over strategic genius. Minmaximus the Mighty may be a god in his own right, but he'll also pretty much be ignored if there's no flavor or background backing him up.

I'm looking to get 5-6 players together. I'll keep recruitment open for a week, closing on 12/15. Feel free to throw any questions my way!

Depending on the urgency with which we warn Vigilant, we can send Oko or Rex on ahead with a note attached. Oko at least is smart enough to convey basic information. The problem being, of course, that a wolf and a flaming bird strolling into town alone would likely be a cause for alarm all its own.

Alternatively, if we take the mounts at a hustle (double movespeed), they'll take 1/2/4/8/16/32 nonlethal damage for every hour we ride them. Obviously we wouldn't want to hustle for that many hours and literally ride them to death, but we could manage two hours easily and three if we really wanted to push them.

I'm not sure how much closer that would put us, and I'm not particularly inclined to do the math. (I mean, what else do we pay Eli for?) Just throwing it out there.

Marius quietly walks up to the ceremony, his shoulders slumped after a long day digging through the brush. His disappointment is visible in his face, but he keeps that too downcast, avoiding the prying eyes of his companions. Rex, however, wastes no time in returning to Marius's side, sitting beside him and waiting patiently.

With a weak smile, Marius pulls a few dried bits of jerky from his pack and offers them to Rex. "Good job today, bud. Helped out a lot, I hope?" The wolf replies with a weak whine while gulping down the jerky.

Plopping himself into the dirt alongside Rex, Marius sits and waits for the ceremony to be over. He has nothing more to add, and certainly didn't want to further crush everyone's spirits with the news - or lack thereof - that the trackers had found.

When that's all said and done...

As the rites at the burial cairn seem to come to a close, Marius stands and brushes the dirt from his pants. With a seemingly carefree shrug, he approaches the others and shares the tracker's findings. "Nothing out there. Just a few rabbit trails, but nothing came in or out of the village on foot for a good long while. No fiends, no animals, and," Marius hesitates, his voice wavering slightly, "no other people. Gina's the only one left."

"They say that once, the Stolen Lands were nothing more than wilderness - a region contested by many and yet held by none. But look at her now! A great kingdom, founded by the mightiest of heroes! Forged from the land herself, and carved into something that will stand the test of time.

How, you ask? Well, take a seat. Let me tell you a tale... and she's a doozy."

But just who were the heroes that wrote the legend? That, friends, is for you to determine!

Because of apparently overwhelming interest in Kingmaker games, I've elected to take the helm of a game of my own. Frequent posting is appreciated, with at least once a day on weekdays and once a weekend preferable, though the pace will pick up or slow down as life demands. Any players who go inactive for long periods will be either run as an NPC or removed from the game and replaced.

Character creation:

- 20 point buy.
- Core Races preferred, but any race is accepted. Just make sure you have a backstory to justify that half-tiefling half-tengu half-cat half-brick character!
- Any class except summoner is allowed (sorry, guys, I hate summoners). While I'd prefer not to have gunslingers, they are welcome.
- 2 Traits, one of which must be a KM campaign trait. I'm willing to reflavor a campaign trait if one doesn't fit your concept perfectly. 1 Drawback is allowed.
- Non-evil alignments please. If you really and truly believe you can play an evil character without being a jerk, I'll consider it.
- Average starting wealth.
- Max HP at first, Average+1 on subsequent levels.
- 3rd Party Content can be considered on a case by case basis. No psions, though.
- Backstories are appreciated, but don't feel compelled to write a novel. Unless you really want to.

I prefer running cinematic combat, but if a grid is really needed I'll provide it. Generally looking for flavor and RP over strategic genius, though. Minmaximus the Mighty will be pretty much ignored.

I'm looking to get 6 players together - and judging by the overwhelming interest for KM games of late, I don't imagine this will be a problem. Recruitment will be open for about a week, closing on Monday 9/29. If I get completely inundated with submissions I might close it earlier, but I'll let everyone know if this is the case. I'm pretty sure I forgot something in the above, so I'll be around to answer questions and stuff if they come up.

Sounds good to me.

Marius has had generally favorable interactions with everyone (though Eli creeps him out a little, and some of the more zealous characters don't really jive with his style). Oko and Natanja are a perfect fit for super nature-time, though, and Marius respects Cernan's sense of realism over fundamentalism.

In other news, @GMA - If Marius wants to train his mule for combat riding, how exactly can he go about it? Would it be something he can try to teach to the mule while we're riding around and doing little else, or when we camp for the night, or whatever?

Oh, that. I figure (hoped?) that Arabeth was far enough away from them, or at least the one I was beating on, that it wouldn't affect the imps.

Also, yeah, OOC knowledge. In Marius's mind, Rex has that handled and the very angry mules are of greater importance. (Also-also, I hate imps and their DR. Wolf teeth are obviously good-aligned, right guys?)

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Marius bolts into action as soon as the beasts appear - he wasn't sure exactly what they were, but knew that no real beast of the forest spoke with a foul tongue like that. Most of them didn't really talk at all. He had flashbacks to his first meeting with Rex, and quickly glances over to his friend.

Rex was poised for battle, teeth bared and hair bristling with both anger and fear.

"Sic 'em, bud," he shouts over the sound of battle. "That one!" He gestures towards the closest beast, the one attacking Chap. For a moment, Marius closes his eyes and shares his strength with Rex, hoping the wolf will aid his companions in time.

Using Animal Focus to apply +2 Str to Rex.

Handle Animal - attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

Rex charges into battle, moving around behind it leaping towards the creature.

Rex Atk on Chap's Critter: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 = 17
Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Free Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

While Marius knew his mount was far from a noble warhorse, given the strange nature of their attackers - it was almost a blessing to have a mule. Stubborn as all hell, they'd go just about anywhere you told them. He kicked his legs while pulling his sword free, driving the mule closer to the beasts.

Handle Animal - Ride into battle: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Ride - Fight on this thing: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Riding up beside Rex, leaned towards the creature and swung at its tail, trying to remove its dangerous looking stinger.

Marius Atk on Chap's Critter: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 Possibly +2 more if Marius is also flanking
Dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Helio here, presenting Marius the Hunter. Couldn't resist trying an ACG class, I've been missing all the fun everyone else has been having!

I think everything's in order, but aasimar's have so many options I'm almost certain I mucked something up in there.

I also tied the questions into my backstory, but I'll copy it here for ease of access.

Questions:

Perhaps he'd never live up to the destiny he imagined.

Or at least, that's what he'd thought.

At last, the dreams spoke back. "So, why should I choose you?” she'd asked. A simple question, and yet so difficult to answer. Why should he be chosen?

“What have you done with your life so far? What talents can you bring to the cause of good?” The woman was beautiful, more beautiful than any he'd ever met in his life. If the angels were real, she must have been one, he thought. Where else could such beauty originate?

“And, most of all, how do I know I can trust you with this mission?"

He woke with the last question on his lips, sweat on his brow, and Rex at his side. He couldn't even recall falling asleep. It was raining; of course it was. Marius placed a hand on Rex and gently pet the wolf. For all of the beast's wild tendencies, he'd become like a puppy in Marius's arms.

“Because I deserve a chance,” he told Rex. The wolf looked at him perplexedly, then lay his head back down. “I've tried, and I've tried, and I've tried,” Marius continued. “The world is a bitter and dark place, a place that laughs at goodness, chews it up, and spits it out. And I'm determined to set that right. I won't rest until I do.”

Marius laughed to himself, knowing how silly it was to tell Rex about this. The dream was probably nothing, just a delusion of his own creation. He continued regardless. There was something cathartic about vindicating everything he'd been doing for the last few years.

“Because goodness doesn't mean a man is weak. It's a strength, the resolve to take the hard road in a world of crappy choices. A man that ventures into the wilderness and doesn't just take, but gives. He understands the world is easier when you forget your common man – and even easier when you forget your worldly kin.” He glanced at Rex, who seemed none the wiser of Marius's monologue. Enjoying the petting, though. “How can anyone trust a man who lets others – beast or man – suffer for his own profit? A man – a good man – cannot sit idly by.”

“What do I bring? I bring the balance of man and beast. A balance with the natural world that mankind forgot so long ago. I bring my blade, my bow, my skills, and,” he chuckled as he ruffled Rex's fur. “My friend.”

Marius sighed, leaning back against the thick fir tree he'd been taking shelter beneath. Few drops made it through the thick branches, but he gazed up and let the water run down his face. “So you ask what I have done. The answer, of course, is nothing.” He laughed, staring up into the sky beyond the canopy. If that woman was real, he knew she'd be laughing too.

“Not yet.”

Fiddle still in hand, Pipernortin notices the approaching figure out of the corner of his eye.

He offers a quick bow, "Ah, a fan? And I've only just come to this lovely town..." She approached a little closer, and looked decidedly less happy than he'd initially thought. "Oh. A critic. Of course."

Diarmal solemnly bows his head at the recitation of Tessrimea's tale.

"Then it sounds as though you and I have much in common, Tessrimea. I am unsure if everyone got my name in the chaos last night - I am of the Illsutra clan, the nomad priest Diarmal. I hail from the lands of the Drasbians, a land of highlands and moors, clan and honor. I could never imagine letting a kinsman suffer a tutelage hardly differentiable from slavery. You and your people have done her memory a great honor, and I am sure she knows this - wherever her soul now rests."

He pauses, looking over the table at Paulina. His head starts a slow, instinctive shake as he ponders her tale. "And you're a strange one, lass. But I respect ye spirit, too." Grabbing one of the nearby plates, Diarmal begins to shovel a hearty breakfast into his gullet. "Best eat up then - sounds like Nathaniel here's got quite a journey planned for us."

FMC for worst GM ever, imo.

Also, feel free to post your actions whenever you have a chance. On most PbPs the GM will take care of all the order-sorting as he resolves all the attacks and actions. Otherwise you run into situations where you're waiting a day for that jerk before you in initiative to post his damn move! Present company excluded, of course.

"I- well, no- it's-"

Diarmal took a long, deep breath. That went about as badly as anything could have gone. So much for being a proper representative of Lady Aisling. He gave a long and humble bow - a gesture he'd learned from many of the humans he'd crossed paths with. He hoped it translated to Bullywug.

"My deepest apologies, and trust that I speak for myself and my fellow, here. Whatever that- er, specimen did to offend you, I will take full responsibility. You must understand that our land is a harsh one that does not forgive indolence in the face of apparent danger."

He kept his head lowered, though he heard the folks behind him speaking of strange things. He kept a small amount of his attention on those proceedings, even as the Bullywug stood at the tavern's threshold.
