We still waiting on Thanis to chime in?

Harumn's dwarven legs pump furiously as he closes on the wagon group. Seeing Genji and the halfling struck by the wand wielder, Harumn focuses his attention on him and barrels forward, striking the man with a sharp blow from his axe as he lets forth a battle cry.

Attack Roll: 19 + 8 = 27; Dmg: 6 + 3 = 9. I'm assuming that we still have the bonus from Inspire Courage and I'm counting a +2 for charging into the attack. Even without it, I'm pretty sure a 25 hits. :)

"Right then, le's be on with it!" Harumn looks over... and UP... at Kutok, smirking. "C'mon ye huge lout! Le's be after th'wagon then."

Harumn begins moving in Genji's wake, stopping to turn to the others. "Cleric, do what ye've got to, but make it quick as th'gods'll let ye. Ajji, go wit'Genji. Th'rest o' ye kin say n'make sure this 'un doesn't try anythin' against our priest 'ere." Harumn indicated the weeping guard with a vague gesture. "'les ye want t'do yer funeral service in a wee bit? We could use th'elp, aye?"

Harumn winked, not hanging around for a response, and chased after the wagon train as well.

Harumn nods at Genji's statement.

"Aye, maybe we should make a show of ourselves n'hope th'they're as green as these 'uns." Harumn gestured to the weeping older warrior and the dead young man. "We kin chase 'em off without a fight..."

Harumn looked back to the body of the young guard, then back to Genji. "'Course, tha's not much to lean on. More than naught, they'll be steeled and sour 'bout us blockin' th'way. I'm with ye, lad, but le's come up with somethin' quick-like."

Harumn's arms go weak and he lowers the bloody axe at his side, frowning heavily at the display of emotions. The boy had been young indeed, too young for such a fate. Harumn glanced at the arm on the ground, severed by his own hands, and then to the weeping older man. It was true that guards faced many dangers and that certainly they must accept such risks in their line of duty, but Harumn wondered now if these men were guards by choice or by necessity.

His jaw hung open, his brain searching for the words he needed. Nothing seemed to fit, and so the dwarf mumbled the only words he could find.

"...I'm sorry, lad."

He drops the knife further into his hand, holding the flat and with a grunt of pain and a self-conscious nod, slings it at Gillad, sticking him in the shoulder up to half the length of the blade 2 HP.

Harumn's eyes widen at the man's audacity and furiously hacks at his extended arm with his axe, punishing him for attacking his companions.

AoO! Attack roll = 21; Damage = 12

"HERE! DOWN HERE, YE STUPID CUR!"

Feeling the rush of the cleric's blessing upon him, Harumn smiles wide as he takes a low swing with his axe blade at the youth.

Attack roll = 20; Damage = 5
Does bless stack with Inspire Courage? I think they're both morale bonuses. If not, reduce the attack roll by 1. Damage is unchanged.

"C'mon down 'ere, ye stubborn brat. Le's see how ye fight on yer knees!"

Seeing an opportunity to give the monk a hand and noticing that the guards are no longer intent on harming the spellcasters, Harumn charges forward and attempts to knock the younger one out of the fight completely.

I'm using a Bull Rush on the one who dropped his weapon (since he can't make an AoO unarmed... unless he has Imp. Unarmed Strike). Trying to push him as far from Kutok as possible so that Kutok can focus on one foe at a time. I can't recall the rules for a bull rush off-hand, so please let me know what I need to roll and I shall.

Initiative = 12
"Oh, ye want t'get t'the magic folk, aye?" Harumn bangs his axe against his shield and places himself directly between the approaching guardsmen and the assembly of Isaeldan, Gillad, and Keria.

"Come n'try it!"

I am holding action until one of them is bold enough to attack the magic users. I am positioning myself to maximize the possibility of attacks of opportunity against the opponents and also providing as much interference as possible to prevent them from being able to charge. If they want to charge ME, they're welcome to! :D

Harumn bends over to retrieve his axe, grinning wickedly as he stands again. He lets the gesture itself serve as his message.

Muttering Dwarven curses under his breath, Harumn does not fight the entangling vines. Anyone who meant them harm wouldn't have bothered with a warning.

"Aye, lass... no 'arm meant. We's jest lookin' for somethin' what might be causin' trouble..." Harumn looked at the vines wrapped around himself and his companions, "an' not th'kind o'trouble ye be causin' us 'ere. Somethin' wors'en 'at. I dinnae know what yer li'l critter was n'I figured I'd see if'n I could catch 'im. I dinnae mean t'urt th'bugger. Look! I even dropped me axe!" Harumn's tone brightened at the last statement as though it should be considered the highest gesture of respect possible from a dwarf.

Surprised by the flutter of movement, Harumn whips around and sees the creature turning to flee. Unsure of what it is or who it serves, Harumn drops his axe and attempts to snatch the creature but it is too quick for him and easily evades capture.

Grapple check result = 7

(Male Dwarf Fighter 2)

Harumn nods and stays back at Genji's request. Armed and ready, he waits for any sign of movement in the surrounding area, his helmed head looking left and right while positioning himself to protect Gillad and Isaeldan should anything ambush them from the forest.

Spot Check = 3 :(

(Male Dwarf Fighter 2)

Harumn nods in agreement to Ajjira's statement.

"Aye, I'm a wee bit famished meself. I's gots me arm'r t'fix too." He motioned to the crushed pauldron and then turned to look at one of the villagers. "Ye lads got an anvil I kin use n'perhaps a good forge to heat 'er up wit? Got some fierce dents t'ammer out 'ere."

(Male Dwarf Fighter 2)

The surly dwarf nodded and shrugged slightly at the answer, looking to the others around him for any further interrogation. He knew now that, at least according to this particular orc, the majority of the threat had been put to rest.

"'at settles it, then. They're all but dead, ain't got anoth'r ettin wit 'em, an' they's a whole bunch a' crazy murder-happy orcs what worships some god thing that wants 'em t'eat the bodies of th'dead. If'n there's none more t'ask o'em, I say we put these 'uns down n'go after th'rest o'em 'efore they know what's what."

The dwarf grinned smugly as though he thought his plan to be of masterful strategic insight.

Harumn listens to the translations and simply nods along, waiting for a pause in the questioning.

"Lad," he speaks to Isaelden. "Ask 'em if'n there's anymore ettins about or if that 'uns th'only one."

The dwarf solemnly stands off to one side as the villagers enact their rituals, only moving to smile and nod at the man who placed his hand on his shoulder.

He gives the man a hearty handclap on the bicep and nods. "Aye, lad. S'best t'find out what we can now 'efore more of 'em kin show up n'try t'save these 'uns." The dwarf paused, smiling up at the defender. "Ye an' yer men fought well t'day. Not more you kin ask than that. Le's make sure they wont be dyin' fer nothin'."

Later, when they are brought before the orcs, Harumn's face hardens into a scowl. Filled more with disgust than rage, he opts to simply stand by while someone else commences the interrogation. In his foul mood, he'd be lucky to finish a sentence without spewing all manner of profanity at the dazed orcish hostages.

Harumn averts his eyes from the grim triage administered by the shaman, knowing that this must be the way of their people and that it is not his place to interfere. He turns his attention to the wounded as well, assisting with the transportation of bodies and clearing the battlefield more than dressing wounds.

Wincing in pain, he unbuckles the straps holding his crushed pauldron in place tightly against his shoulder and removes it. He rubs his shoulder a bit, examining the wound and rolling it around in the socket to make sure there is no permanent damage. After seeing that the damage is largely superficial, he shrugs and continues to lend aid.

Harumn lets loose a victorious yell, raising his axe to the sky as the last of the orcs falls. Glancing over the battlefield, he is saddened by the numerous bodies of the villagers and spies the two sleeping orcs.

Looking to some of the more fit villagers and then to his own companions, he points a stubby finger at the orcs.

"Them orcs've got answers fer us... tie 'em down somewhere an' le's get t'the bottom o' this mess." Harumn's face darkens as he gives the order, clearly showing no mercy for his enemies.

Harumn joins the line of defenders, shield in hand, and bellows an order to press forward and drive the enemy before them.

Harumn steps forward, advancing with the guards, and takes a swing at the nearest foe.

(Attack roll: 11; 4 dmg if successful.)

Grunting victoriously and nodding at Ajjira and Kutok, Harumn spits on the ettin's body and turns back to face the melee. He surveys the immediate battlefield, looking first for a shield and second for a solid place to stand and drive the foul orcs back.

(He's looking for any discarded shields that look like they're still intact. If he doesn't spot one, he'll shrug and move towards the bulk of the fighting. If he does, he'll snag it, put it on, and THEN move towards the bulk of the fighting.)

(Male Dwarf Fighter 2)

Harumn grins victoriously as the ettin hits the ground, taking a glance around to see how his other compatriots are faring.

"'jira, Kutok, git yerselves o'er there'n help the midget! Ol' boy 'eres as good as gone!" Harumn directed his two meleeing companions over towards Genji and Isaeldan where the orcs were beginning to close in. He then turned his attention back to the ettin, holding his axe out to one side as he spat into the nearest face just before delivering the killing blow.

(Initiative - 8; Atk: 11... probably didn't hit but 13 damage if it did.)

(Male Dwarf Fighter 2)

World DM-Grimcleaver wrote:
It's arm swings up high over it's head and the big greatclub comes crushing down, hitting the dwarf in the shoulder and staggering him back (8 pts). Splinters of wood explode from the shield, broken planks sticking through the leather facing like a compound fracture. The shoulder of the breastplate is crushed down painfully, pinching the muscle underneath and limiting the upward movement of his arm until he gets to an armorer.

Harumn stands firm, biting down hard from the pain of the blow. He looks back up at the ettin, incensed at the creature's audacity, his eyes filled with fury. Unable to move his left arm up due to the crushed pauldron, Harumn ditches the devastated shield and brings his hand to bear on his waraxe and swings for the creature's ankle.

"Like choppin' wood..." he thought to himself as he swung with all his might.

(I get the impression that we aren't doing initiative every round. This attack roll - 26!, 11 to confirm; add +2 to those if I'm flanking now. DMG: 7, 24 if crit confirms. Harumn is now using the axe 2-handed and has ditched the shield, reducing his AC to 21 against the ettin, 20 against all others.)

Harumn sweeps the axe overhead, sure he connected with one of the throats of the ettin, but as he follows through and spins to look up, the creature pulled itself just out of range, the axeblade passing just in front of it--argh! And such a pretty swing too.

Harumn growls deeply at the ettin.

"Quit movin' ye smelly pile o' dung!"

Visibly enraged, Harumn nonetheless maintains his stalwart posture, keeping his shield close to his body and minimizing his target profile on all sides, his head glancing briefly to check his flanks as he pulls the axe back for another swing.

(No action here, just describing the results of the round.)

(Male Dwarf Fighter 2)

Seeing the giant brought low before him, the dwarf grins and lets forth a coarse laugh.

"C'mon down 'ere, lad! Lemme show ye how to play in th'dirt!" He mockingly tells the ettin as he takes an overhead swing with his axe, hoping to catch the monster in one of it's chins.

(I don't know if we're rolling INIT every round or not, but if we are, I rolled a 4 for init and a 15 to hit or 17 if I have a flanking bonus now. 13 damage if successful thanks to Inspire Courage. Heh... rolling max damage twice in a row!)

(Male Dwarf Fighter 2)

The stout dwarven warrior strode ahead of the rest of the group, motioning for them to follow.

"Eyes forward, lads!"

Without a second thought, Harumn charged directly at the ettin, eyes focused on its knees.

"Taste m'steel, ye two-'eaded git!"

The dwarf buckled down on his shield and let loose a powerful swing of his axe.....

(Initiative total: 12; Charging attack roll: 18 - DMG: 12 if successful. The ettin is TOTALLY my Dodge target for the round. Don't forgot my dwarven AC bonuses against giants! :D)

Okay, okay... I suppose this will do.

If I develop some kind of multiple personality disorder or something, though, I'm blaming YOU, Sexi. :P
