Background:
Halvor grew up in a small village near Sandpoint, the only son of a local tanner. Halvor's father, Alrick, started to teach his son the tanning trade, but once Halvor reached his teens and his size increased, Alrick apprenticed him to the local blacksmith, instead.

Halvor enjoyed his time with the blacksmith, and did reasonably well with it, but as he eyed the adventurers who came in and out, Halvor began to envy them and daydream about becoming a famous adventurer in his own right. A few weeks later one of these adventurers got into an argument with the smith over pricing and pulled a dagger and slashed it across the smith's belly. Halvor grabbed the sword he had been tempering and swung it at the man. The swing was wild but the strength behind it sent the knife flying from the evil man's hand and he fled. The smith died later that night.

Halvor spent the next few weeks miserable. If he hadn't been daydreaming, he might have been able to react to the man in time to save the smith. Scenarios kept running through his head, and his depression deepened. Suddenly one morning, he woke up feeling refreshed and with his spirit at peace. He could not go back and save the smith, but he could dedicate his life to defending the weak and trying to prevent things like that from happening again.

With his father's blessing, he traveled to Sandpoint to join the Guards. He was eagerly accepted, but after a couple of months Halvor's youthfulness eagerness turned into cynicism. While some of the men he served with were good people, some took bribes that made Halvor bristle, while others acted indifferently towards the plights of the citizens of Sandpoint. After about six months on the job, Halvor told Sheriff Hemlock that he was leaving, and proceeded to spend the next couple of years roaming the countryside, looking for monsters and adventures. While he was able to help repel a goblin invasion at one point, Halvor has returned to Sandpoint, mentally exhausted and looking for another goal to make itself apparent.

Personality:
Halvor is a quiet young man with unassuming features. He is friendly, but has a black/white approach to wrong-doing and finds it hard to keep his mouth shut as a consequence. He leaps to the defense of others, particularly those he feels are helpless or are greatly outnumbered.

Appearance:
Halvor stands well over six feet tall and exceeds two hundred pounds. He has dark brown hair that he keeps cropped short, dark brown eyes, and is tanned by his travels in the sun.
