Background: Found and raised as a orphan on the streets of Senara, a city which many consider as an example of Cheliax's infernal experiment gone too far, it was only natural for Hagar to end up in one of many street gangs due to his physical prowess. Apprehended by Order of the Pike while he was still very young, he was offered a choice - death or to enlist in Cheliax army, in one of their "penal" units. Of course, he enlisted, and after some gruesome training, which did not differ too much from his life on the streets actually (only the beatings were stronger, and he was not allowed to fight back) but the meals, however disgusting, were regular unlike on the streets. Hagar adapted quickly, and even started enjoying his new found life. He was taking part in several campaigns accross Varisia, and very soon, him and a few other survivors formed the core of what was to become "his squad". Rookies come and went, usually got themselves killed, but several of them, despite being hard-core criminals, formed a strong bond, a camaraderie of a sorts.

After some time, due to his unique skills - both his prowess and the fact that he was extremely loud and very menacing, especially towards rookies, Hagar was made a sergeant of his own unit, made of majority of his surviving comrades. They were sent, as a part of larger "expeditionary force" (common Chelaxian euphemism for their typical raiding missions), to Hold of Belkzen. It was a well-known fact among the troops that some of the magic wielding Chelaxian nobles were leading this expedition personally in search of some artefact or magic item...it did not matter much, Hagar had a bad feeling right from the start.

At the start, his squad was given a new commanding officer, one named Samir, who replaced their old lieutenant Markov. Although there was no love lost between Hagar and Markov (on the matter of Markov "forcing himself" on some woman they captured much earlier), but at least Hagar respected Markov's battlefield proves. This new guy Samir, a minor noble from House Jeggare as he was told, was a complete dandy, and a very dangerous rookie who knew nothing about craft of war and how to command.
For whatever reasons Samir "liked" Hagar in a way, and he told him openly that he envies him on his battlefield prowess. After one drunken bout, he also told Hagar that the only reason he was there with the expedition, is to earn a Crimson-Red Circle-Cross, one of Chelaxian highest, and most valued military decorations. As faith would have it, Samir got his chance soon, so soon that it seemed like it was planned in a way...

A detachment under Samir including Hagar's unit, received their orders to capture a small outpost and defend it until reinforcements arrive. They captured their objective without much issues, and dug in to wait for promised reinforcements. However, when a large orcish warband appeared on the horizon seeking retribution, reinforcements were nowhere in sight. Hagar turned to Samir, asking him to allow an orderly retreat, but he flat-out refused, and ordered all of them back to their positions with the intent of defending this outpost to the last man. A good majority of soldiers on site almost went in an open rebellion against such a order, but Hagar was able to intimidate them back into their posts. He knew Samir's type, and Hagar was sure that he is not a martyr, that he will not allow them all killed, thinking both Samir and the rest of the military have some "ace in their sleeve". So he ordered his people back, and with no reinforcements in site, they awaited the enemy.

Orcs came, and despite very stubborn defence, despite the fact that Hagar and some other sergeants did all in their power to fix the blunders of Samir's orders, despite all that - orcs simply rolled over them, slaughtering almost all. One by one, Hagar saw his comrades falling, veterans of countless battles before that, killed to the last person. Only the fact that Hagar saw Samir fall down pierced by several orc weapons, brought a small smile to his lips, before he was overcome himself, getting hit in the head and the darkness took him.

Several days later, Hagar was awoken in Chelaxian forces field hospital. To his huge surprise, the man waking him was Samir. "What, you did not think that I would die for nothing did you?" Smiling loudly, Samir explained to him that that was all part of a larger plan, that their unit was a decoy of a sorts, to get a large mass of orcs out in the open. Samir knew that, and he volunteered for the mission, of course previously arranging his own resurrection, which was paid in advance by his family. All they needed was to find his body, after their main force overwhelmed the orcs. He was almost ecstatic because his action brought him a commendation and he was in line to receive his "oh so important" medal.

"Since you survived somehow, I even have a gift for you" - Samir told to Hagar giving him an viciously looking but impeccable double orc axe. Seeing confusion in half-orcs eyes, Samir burst to maniacal laughter when he heard Hagar's question if they will resurrect other member's of his unit. "Why my dear fellow, you really are slow, aren't you? We did not resurrect you either, you simply survived somehow, I guess you were buried under other orc bodies, and they simply did not find you in time, before our forces counter attacked. Ah you thought that we would pay for your resurrection, yours and that other scumm. Ah, that's so precious!"

Faces and scenes of death of his lost comrades, swimming in front of his eyes, Hagar simply took the present (axe) preferred to him. Then, without hesitation and with utmost conviction he simply swung it towards unsuspecting Samir, cleanly cutting his head off in one vicious blow.

Somehow, he managed to escape from the field hospital, carrying Samir's dead body with him. The fact that there were celebrations all around Chelaxian camp since they won over the orcs and retrieved the artefact they sought, coupled with the fact that almost no one deserts from the winning army bivouac, helped him a lot. With most of them drunk, they only understood that something is wrong when Samir did not show up for the celebration of receiving his medal. By then, Hagar was far away. He deserted Chelaxian army carrying butchered Samir's body with him, and feeding parts of it to various creatures along the way. He did not want any part of it to be found ever again. No more resurrections for you Samir...if they can not have it, neither will you!"

Wandering in the wilds, and scrounging the best he can, Hagar eventually came to Magnimar, with only his gear and carrying just one more possession - Samir's head. Inside the city, he sold the remains of now already decomposing head to one Melrich Grubb, a necromancer of extremely questionable repute, who according to what Hagar heard, did not really care much what parts he was using for his zombies. Melrich made a deal with Hagar - he will craft some protective tatoos on his shoulder, and pay him lunch in exchange for such a "worthy" item as the head of a noble.

A fitting end for such a noble... - thought Hagar while he was paying for his lunch from the money he got from selling the head. Scratching the new tatoo on his shoulder, he mused I sure do hope this thing works. Now, what do I do next....?
