Haedrik stands and pulls out the chair for the woman to sit in. "Yes, milady inform us."

"The longer I remain here, the more I feel something is amiss."

Haedrik studies the elf and nods.

"Perhaps, we should have a look about this place then."

Ross, are there any doors or stairs?

"Perhaps have a poke behind these curtains, eh?"

Haedrik hops up and and stares intently at the tapestry depicting the black-skulled beast.

"Interesting tastes." Haedrik turns back to the others. "So shall we glance about a bit?"

Haedrik nodded here and there as the assembled debated the possibility of their meeting being a trap. "Possible, possible . . .but truth be told, I very much doubt Lamm even recalls me."

Haedrik flashes a winning smile at the somewhat terse woman. "I know, I know, you're thinking how could he forget such a striking figure as me." Haedrik offers a prolonged shrug. "I blame it on age. His of course, not mine."

Haedrik chuckles softly and holds his arms palm up in appeasement. He turns his attention to the halberd-wielding man.

"You sound like you don't know why you're here yourself. By my reckoning that places us in the same boat."

Haedrik pauses for a second, then sighs. He reaches into his shirt pocket and tosses his card down on the table.

"Lamm's why I am here. And according to my card, my guess is the dirty scoundrels the reason you are here too."

Haedrik took a cool draught from the clay jug while eyeing up the young lady near him.

"Doll, I don't think I caught your name?"

Haedrik smiles at his new 'friends.' He plops down unceremoniously on a chair and lifts his feet atop another.

"Free food! Now if this is a trap, its the kind I don't mind falling into."

Haedrik rips a chunk of bread and stuffs it into his mouth. "So anyways, my name's Haedrik, and you all are . . ." Haedrik let the question hang while reaching for a drink.

"This is the 3 Lancet, yes?"

Haedrik gave a quick glance around. "It certainly is."

He let his fingers stray to the hilt of his rapier as the door popped ajar.

"Normally, I would let a woman enter first, and you definitely seem like that would not be an issue," Haedrik said with a grin. "But perhaps I should enter first?"

Haedrik took a step forward. "By the by, what brings a lady here this late anyways?"

Haedrik watches the woman knocking on the door; he pauses in his walk for only a second.

As he approaches he clears his throat so as not to catch the woman off-guard, though he doubted he did as she seemed alert.

"Knock again my dear; let them know you are knocking for two."

Haedrik swept into a low bow. "Haedrik's the name. Pleased to meet you."

Haedrik assures Jaz there will be no problems and that the rapier is more of bravado piece.

After he leaves, he ducks into a tavern closer to his destination. Throws a few silver down for some wine and begins to mull over what tonight might possibly bring.

spending 5 silver on a bottle of wine; don't intend to finish it

Haedrik gives an sly wink. "Thought I'd strap on the ol' rapier; you never know when the maidens might be looking." Haedrik bounded up the stairs to his room, trying to think of a lie to the gnome so he could get the night off.

A few moments later, Haedrik came down the stairs and cleared his throat to get Jaz's attention from cleaning the teapot.

"Jaz, I am not going to lie to you. There is a great card game going on tonight, I got an invite for just a few coppers and I'd hate to pass it up. I can work tomorrow evening instead. . ." Haedrik lets his voice trail off with just a hint of pleading.

Spoiler:
Deception check = 1d20+3 = 17

If all goes well -

Spoiler:
Haedrik nods his thanks and spends the next few hours nursing a glass of wine and preparing to arrive at sunset.

Haedrik deftly palmed the card and slid it into his sleeve. He was mildy surprised that someone had been so capable of putting the card in the pantry without his or Jazbarl's notice.

"Tea will be whistling soon, Jaz. I'll be back in an hour or so."

Haedrik exited the inn and strolled down the street towards the marketplace. His mind was strolling down different paths; namely, old memories half-buried.

Haedrik did not often dwell on his life under Gaedren Lamm; truth be told, he had never quite mentioned it to anyone besides Jaz. Haedrik sighed and pivoted, turning back towards the tavern.

His tobacco would have to wait; he did not want to visit this stranger this evening without first checking his rapier and daggers.

Haedrik lets out a deep laugh. "Can't fault a guy for trying, eh?"

Haedrik spends the next hour unloading the cart and helping Jazbarl get a meal going.

The two friends gossip a bit over lunch and a friendly game of cards.

When all is done, Haedrik washes the dishes and offers to put the cart back.

"Jaz, I'm gonna roll into market and get some tobacco, unless you need something else done before we open."

Haedrik's eyebrows lift at the sound of moonwine.

"Well, come now Jazbarl, you've no doubt had a long morning, let me unload the cart here."

Haedrik bounds over and starts taking the foodstuffs back to the bar.

"You know, Jazbarl, we should probably try a bit of this wine. Make sure you didn't get ripped off or anything like that?"

Haedrik offers the most sincere smile he can.

Haedrik awoke to a splitting headache.

He rubbed a hand vigorously over his face and head in a futile attempt to erase some of last night's mistakes.

With a sigh, partly protesting muscles, partly protesting waking, he stood and stretched. In a matter of moments he was dressed.

He eased himself down the stairs of tavern and into the main floor; he was not surprised to find himself alone. Jazbarl often left during the early hours to shop and mingle with his friends before opening the tavern proper for the day.

Haedrik wound his way through the dining tables and behind the bar. He made ready to open a pantry shelf and prepare himself a little breakfast only to find they were locked shut and a note was pinned to them.

"Haedrik,
Scrub the floors and clean the windows. AND never come home that late and loud again!
Jazbarl."

Haedrik hung his head, but smiled as he started to remember some of the events of the past night . . .in particular the pretty baker's daughter who he had spent the majority of the evening with. He ripped off the note and made his way to the broom while whistling.

Somethings are worth the trouble.

Haedrik should be set. Let me know if I erred. Looking forward to this bad boy!

I'm an 80 year resident of Korvosa, and haved resided in North Point district for about 30 of the past 40 years. I work at the Bank of Abadar as a Temple guard.

"Party" skills:
Anyone who happens to know me well, knows that I'm a bit self-absorbed with few skills useful to others. However I know a bit about Abadar and the other gods (Knowledge (Religion) +1), pretty good ears (Listen +6), and learned a bit about sailing from my father (Profession (Sailor) +4).

Take care!

P.S. Guide to Korvosa is incredibly awesome! JJ said it's safe for players other than the "Secrets" chapter and "Appendix". From reading it I'd say it has fewer spoilers than the Player's Guide even. And it has a great map of the city! :)

Hmm I will have to come up with something similar for Haedrik; for the most part though he has recently been serving as a bartender at a local tavern for room and board.

Fixed up Haedrik a bit; I had forgot Weapon Groups.

Haedrik is ready for a critical eye.

Ok, Haedrik is less sword and board and more roguish rake . . .he will be a fighter variant thug, who may class into rogue at times. Should have him posted within the hour.
