I really like the combo of player dialogue and DM analysis. Haven't gotten to run this one yet so I'm paying very close attention to everything you've got to tell us.
Kudos! ;)
Ultimately speaking...I'll be happy with whatever monster goodness you throw our way. Paizo has already proven over and over again that they (not Godzilla) are the King of Monsters!
Because Godzilla is actually the Queen after all.
Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved has a really good dragon creation mechanic that pretty much makes all AE dragons individually unique while using more or less the same base progression. Just change magister caster levels with sorcerer (or wizard or warlock or psion or whatever) and you're all set.
Enjoyed the continued story. Sounds like fun. I noticed that you went with brevity in this post. Go ahead and take you time. I love reading any details you care to share - especially your DM's notes! All good DMs read other DMs' stuff to mine for ideas.
...he's sooo evil he started a thread making fun of himself and is making a kill list of all the posters so he can hand it over to his evil wizard minions who live on the coast.
Simple enough to houserule: bonus 0-level spells are gained equal to your 1st level bonus spells.
How significant does the "bloodied" condition become? I've read that healing is far more available than in 3.5. so how often does a character stay bloodied?
-Guru, asking in spite of himself.
Difficult to guesstimate what kind of duck he's got with that big overcompensating sword in the way.
*Not that I was looking*
Maybe some sort of upgradable magic tattoo or ritual scarring or whatnot that could give the enhancements and abilities to their unarmed strikes at the same price as comparable magic weapons.
Because tattoos and scars are cool.
What's the basis for the sorcerers/Quicken Spell rumor? If it's true it would make part of the Arcane Bloodline redundant.
Which is why is seems to just be rumormongering to me.
Let's make this thread the one to clarify the truth of rumors rather than the place to start them please.
Slight threadjack. Why not just dispense with fireball/lightning bolt/wall of fire and turn them into energy blast/energy bolt/wall of energy. Energy type to be chosen when memorized or when spontaneously cast. Set up chart of opposing energies.
2 birds 1 stone. Don't need a gazillions substitution feats and you get solution to energy balances.
This is really an inspired idea. Kudos to the OP!
Anyone got a link to Clark's review? Can't find it.

And they all taste like chicken. like a cool chicken XD Dammit..I was hoping to convince my DM to give me a chiuaua familiar, but if he finds out she would taste like chicken there's no way she would survive. Sigh...what have I done...
So LB is a moniker just for this series of modules? Are we talking a trilogy or an AP length series or what?
And the moral of our story:
1) The way you word your first statement in a thread sets the tone for the whole thread. 3/4 of this thread has been wasted responding to your very stupid word choices.
And every time you try to clarify your position you really confirm moral #2:
2) Walks like a troll, talks like a troll, uses all caps like a troll...you're a troll.

What's LB stand for? And no snarky Lesbian/Bisexual comments either...because my mind already took that side road.
Sounds awesome. [Checks calendar-starts ticking off days till Sunday] Can't wait to read more!
Sounds like a great game! How'd you make that Demogorgon? He's pretty cool.
I think that creatures who have Improved Grab or (such as wolves and wargs) Improved Trip should be granted a racial bonus on said maneuvers to keep them as moxy as they were in 3.5.
LOL.
Good morni...uh...afternoon.

See you all tomorrow.
I love rage points. It makes the barbarian's rage more of a one shot blown in one combat thing. A barbarian player can use rage as much or as little as he wants. It's way more versatile and freeform.
Versatility + flexibility + more choice for the player = superduper in my book.
The thing that really gets to me is that I feel like sort of an honorary member of the design team (insofar as my suggestions and everyone else's are really getting looked at objectively).

What do you think about giving certain critters a racial bonus of some sort for certain maneuvers?
Didn't I see you a couple thread over?

You forgot the fresh baked cookies Paizo hands out. :) I was too busy being mind-boggled.
I flat out will not use the 1 for 1 rule. I flat out don't like it. It is unnecessary. Blech!
SirUrza wrote: Gurubabaramalamaswami wrote: Is it just me or are seeker and Urza on this board almost as much as Heathy? So? :) Just talking...nothing to see here...moving along now.
seekerofshadowlight wrote: I do tend to roam around here alot. Kinda adopted the place. It does feel rather homey. The difference between Paizo and others I might mention [cough!WotC!cough!] is that it feels like they opened the door and said "Come on in. Look around. Tell us what you like and don't like." And then they listen. That just freaking boggles my mind sometimes.
By which I mean "Thank you Paizo".
If this static system stands as-is I really think that creatures like wolves/wargs with Improved Trip and critters with Improved Grab should be receiving some sort of racial bonus to their CMB for these maneuvers.
Is it just me or are seeker and Urza on this board almost as much as Heathy?
This open playtest is sometimes like becoming addicted to a new caffeine source - and then it gets canceled. I don't think even 3 alphas was enough time to fully explore this rule. Oh well...
I'm getting sooo frigging old. I'm talking Red Box old.

Grognard question: what the hell is emo?
Very very nice writeup. Entertaining to read and informative regarding play. I'd like to read more!
In regards to point 5 - perhaps monsters with Improved Grab should have some sort of racial bonus on grapple checks to make up for any "umph" they may lose in the transfer to PFRPG CMB rules.
This is a sweet playtest writeup and using Seven Swords of Sin as the playtest adventure was something I was considering as well.
Great analysis.
TerraNova wrote: The combination of relatively high strength scores (due to the point buy rules, and the "any attribute" bonus lead to a very effective combination of "Overhead chop" and "Power Attack". Unless i got something wrong, there nice (or not so nice) multiplicative effect.
I do not think this will cause much of a problem, since Overhead Chop prohibits you from making an iterative attack, so this feat should lose some of its impact on higher levels.
Aren't those both combat feats or am I wrong? If yes, they can't be used together.
Hmmph. I'm a little surprised that this isn't a bigger issue. It's a fairly significant change in how combat works in the game.
I'm happy to second this.

Don't worry, Pathfinder RPG's trying to do that too! :P How do you figure?
I'd almost agree with SirUrza except: I ignore multi-classing XP penalties and it hasn't broken anything in my game. Arcana Evolved does away with the penalties and even allows limited stacking of spellcasting ability between spellcasting classes.
It hasn't broken a darn thing.
I honestly think it's a non-issue. No more penalty for mulit-classing and you get +1 hp/level for taking your favored class. Big deal.
But the OP wants to hold on to the idea that not being rewarded is a punishment. "I'm not getting what he's getting and it's just not fair!"
I don't think mage armor and magic vestment would stack.

I really like the idea of it depending on luck. The DC is kinda too high right now. Our group tends to rely on Combat Maneuvers in preference to regular attacks, and I am concerned that if we switch to this as written it's going to put a serious damper on the fun of that. I really like the flat roll, to be honest. It speeds up play *so much*. We've had some wacky grapple results in the past with effectively a 39 pt spread between two opposed die rolls. Indeed. It's just those wild results that make it so much more on the edge and unpredictable.
I 100% agree about giving back a racial bonus to Diplomacy. Call it "Bridge the Gap".
Rebis Ouroboros wrote: The scene I've been envisioning since I read about the (AWESOME) new evil cleric turning ability is a feat that comes from WOtC's Libris Mortis. Its name escapes me at the moment, but if you take it, you are healed by negative energy, and harmed by positive energy. There's another feat you can take to cause undead that you create to burst upon destruction and release a wave of negative energy.

Tomb-Tainted Soul. Destruction Retribution.
I can see clerics of Norgerber being really fond of this kind of channeling.
Also it invokes images of "suicide bomber" clerics using their channelings as envisioned by other posters.

Pneumonica wrote: I don't like the revision on many levels.
First, as a long-time Ravenloft player and DM, I've grown accustomed to the idea that magic doesn't automatically capitalize on allergen. Just because I have a magic weapon does not mean it's going to bypass your resistance to blunt force trauma. If it did, then I'd like my keen vorpal quarterstaff, please.
Second, as a DM in general, it means that DR is completely irrelevant to high-level parties. Since high-level parties can usually deal out enough damage to overwhelm the DR of the monsters they face, making it so that they just never have to pay attention to DR really weakens higher CR monsters.
Third, a +5 longsword is the most boring, stupid thing on the planet. There's a lot of ink on paper to make it so that you don't need to have every item slot on your body be an "item of ability score, armor class, or saving throw bonus". Why are we backpedaling on that and saying "but you can't have the snazzy boosts on your weapon, you've just gotta take a flat bonus that in-game just means it's magical magic of magicalness with no cool points whatsoever"?
Some very good points here. Perhaps the best of these is: it makes bypassing DR a generic thing. Generic = boring = bad.
I kind of liked the old opposed roll system in 3.5. It added a certain level of uncertainty and blind luck to the equation. I liked that.
So...all chicken jokes aside...there is actually a valid question being posed here. Can a multi-class wizard/sorcerer with the Arcane bloodline have both a bonded item and a familiar? Two items? Two familiars?
I'd say not. Rather than stacking abilities it would just mean using whichever you took first. But perhaps the wizard and sorcerer levels might stack for the potency of the item or advancement of the familiar.
B'gock!
