It's not really 5th edition D&D. It is what 4th edition D&D should have been! WotC dropped the ball with their new game, and Paizo picked up the slack.
To me Pathfinder, AD&D, 3.5, 4th edition, the blue box, etc is all Dungeons and Dragons. Label it what you want but I call it D&D. I've been playing it since 1978 and my group calls it D&D. Still has elves, halflings, (the much hated) gnomes, paladins, dragons, etc, and dungeons...so whether you prefer 4 edition over PFRPG (like my group does) is a personal preference.
So lets all stop discussing/bickering/arguing over what it is or what to all it and just enjoy whatever version you prefer.
With that said - BACON FOR ALL!

I think your Core audience would still buy it at that price, but the larger audience may balk at it.
What makes it cost that much? the Box itself or the contents in the box?
It's a mix of things, really; the cost of the box, the cost of all the books inside, the cost of the additional goods, the cost of assembling the box and its contents, the cost of shipping such bulky items, etc. There's also the fact that they're awkward to shelve with other RPG books in bookstores. They're cool, I agree, but they're also not very practical. Boxed board games are able to pull off this thing because, for the most part, they've got a MUCH bigger industry and market and business; they can save money by printing HUGE print runs, and that's not something that most RPGs have the luxury of.
I think James, Vic and Lisa should forfeit their salaries for 7 years to help subsidize the cost of the boxed sets. Anyone else agree? I'd include Cosmo but he only makes $1.99 a month.

That sounds suspiciously like female double-speak.
I go back to the basics. You can not control her. You can not control the situation. You can control you and your response (response ability = responsibility). Focus on you and being the best you that you want to be. That may not be the you she wants you to be. If so, so be it.
Do not try to make a lot of changes just because she said she wanted you to. If you are going to make changes, make them for the right reasons. Trying to be what someone else wants only disappoints the other person and frustrates you. Now if you both want you to be the same thing, then you are good to go.
No one can change you but you and change is usually a long and painful process. Get support. Good luck.
Court is 100% right. You can either be a victim or a volunteer. At first you're a "victim". Now it's time to move on and be the best you can be. Otherwise you doom yourself to being a "volunteer" to misery and self pity.

Sorry, but I don't allow anyone who'd consider themselves "a minority" into my group. I look for good, honest people who want to have fun.
I also do not look to fill any kind of quota.
Isn't it about time we STOPPED looking at things this way, and start thinking about ourselves as PEOPLE?
Actually I ban gnomes and halflings. They can never quite seem to see over the tabletop. And all dwarves that play at the table must be clean shaven. Half-orcs are required to bathe and use deoderant. And , oh yeah, we don't allow anyone to play that has a name of Vecna,Iuz,Strahd or Harry.
We are looking for more elves though. We use their ears to hang our hats.

Well, it depends on which Greek you ask.
If he (or she) identifies strongly with his (or her) Greek-ness, (as this fellow does) he doesn't consider himself "white."
"White" applies more to us American mutts who don't really care about where our ancestors came from. ;)
In either case, there was no offense intended in the statement.
No offense taken. Never thought of myself other than "white" even though I'm 100% Greek. My dad fell off the feta cheese/olive oil boat! :) Mom's parents came through Ellis island around 1912.
So if being "Greek" is not white then what do you classify yourself as? Greek is a nationality not a race.

Last time I checked Greek's were white. :)
My group:
4 white guys (Greek, Slovak, English, Norwegian ancestry)
1 Hispanic (Dominican)
1 Black (Haitian)
Religions - all Christian, but diverse (catholic, eastern orthodox, protestant, etc)
Political views...don't get me started. Far right to far left with a great deal of conspiracy theorists smack dab in the middle.

Actually, reading through the thread, Paizo has responded to a LOT of the feedback.
We try. We really do. :)

Wait! If you're busy responding to feedback who's minding the shop and doing all the work? Can't be Vic - he's always on the boards.

In my travels I have recently come across more than a couple ex-military guys who game.
I don't have any military experience but I do have three guys in my current game who are. I just wanted to give a salute to all of you in the military and invite you to post a reply if you are currently in the military or are ex-military.
I served in the USMC for 4 years and two of my players that I DM are also marines that served with me... There are plenty of military men (and women) who play.
