Description:

Gunga Mai stands at a mere 2'11" tall and weighs 48 lbs. He has auburn colored hair and talks with a slight lisp. By any standards is gifted. But by gnomish standards his talents go beyond exemplary.

He hails from a small gnomish enclave on the north shore of Lake Encarthan. His father and mother were tinkers and catered to the many settlements of all races in the area. As a boy, Gunga would spend a lot of time travelling with his parents as they peddled their wares. In these long trips, Gunga learned many different languages and experienced a diverse number of cultures. He also began dabbling in alchemy after reading a book his father had given him on the subject. He would spend many hours in study and experimentation on the subject in the back of his parents wagon. This was how he eventually earned the nickname "Gunk" as that is what his mother would call each of his failed experiments. "Whats that gunk?" she would frequently say. However, eventually the boys creations began to augment his parents tinkering trade and it became quite lucrative to sell the boys wares. However, his parents always made sure that Gunga was brought back to the enclave. It gave the boy roots and something solid and unchanging in his life.

One individual in the enclave that had a particular influence on the boy was their eccentric Mayor Grik who filled the boy with stories of his adventuring days way back when. One such story had such a profound impact on young Gunk that it has become the sole focus of his life. Grik told him of a ritual he had read about in an ancient tome called the primal apotheosis. It is a ritual of the ascension of a mortal into godhood. Gunk was fascinated. Could this be possible? The boy talked of nothing else for weeks on end.

A number of years later Gunk was on a trip with his parents north of the lake territory and he heard the tale of Aroden's ascension into Godhood and of the days when he walked the land as a mortal man. Gunk recalled the story Grik had told him of the Primal Apotheosis and thus his life quest was born; to seek out evidence of this ritual and to see if he could recreate it.
