(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Actually, Guligak will (a) draw his potion, and (b) dismiss his Enlarge Person spell, since a CL 1 Feather Fall doesn't work on creatures of size Large.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak fumbles in his pack for a potion of Feather Fall as he loosens and drops his shield.

"You g#$$@#ned bastard! Gorum will f*** your skull in Hell, you s***-eating c*******er!!" Guligak screams at the troll in nearly incoherent fury as he dangles.

"Friends! I can make myself as light as a feather, but it will only last for a few seconds. Throw me a line, and I will drink my potion!"

If they don't throw him a line in time, he'll try drinking the potion and falling to the bottom himself.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Acrobatics: 1d20-11=4 --> actually, it's 3; I forgot a -2 to Dex for Enlarge Person

I have a feeling that Guligak will be meeting Gorum real soon now... :-)

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

1d20=7

Guligak uses his shield for full cover and begins backing off of the bridge.

Sense Motive: 1d20+2=6

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

He cast it on a point in space. He'll keep casting it at 40' intervals to light the way. He'll cast one inside the chasm as well. Why not?

Guligak cautiously tests the bridge and then follows.

Catching up to the others at the cave's entrance, Jon says, " Guligak, are you sure its a good idea following an Gorum-cursed troll into a cave? Tough to swing a sword in close quarters. And harder still to make sure a troll stays dead."

The warrior-priest nods thoughtfully. "It looks like an omen to me. Falling into a trap is a bad idea, but so is ignoring an omen. If you are all cowards who refuse to back me up, then I will be a coward too and we will slink away in shame and say nothing more of this day." Guligak looks miserable at the prospect of retreating, but he knows better than to assault a cave full of trolls by himself.

Can Guligak try to make a Sense Motive check on the troll?

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Assuming that other folks will be following him...

Guligak peers into the cave, relying on his magic lenses to enhance his eyesight.

1d20+15=26

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak waits to see if the others are following: he may be foolhardy, but he's not crazy.

In the meantime, he casts a Light spell inside the cave mouth to illuminate matters.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

"IT'S A TROLL," Guligak hollers at his companions. "AND IT'S TRYING TO SAY SOMETHING. LET'S FOLLOW IT."

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak glares at the man he's supposed to protect.

"Nothing happens without a reason. If this beast has crossed our path, Gorum has meant for us to confront it head on!!"

He draws his tower shield and starts trotting towards the creature cautiously.

Use tower shield for total cover while approaching.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

"Whatever it is, we should face it like men!"

Guligak slides awkwardly off of his (tired) horse and cries out: "Gorum! Give me great size to crush this foe!!" raising his greatsword to the sky.

Start casting Enlarge Person on self.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak thinks women are good for:
(a) a good time, or
(b) makin' babies -- male babies.

If Andrea's not interested in (a) or (b), he'll leave her alone. :-)

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

"Huh?"

1d20+15=23

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak looks uncomfortable astride his light horse, but the horse doesn't look too happy about carrying the heavily armoured warrior-priest, either.

"Let's begone. If I take too long in returning, my wives will think I'm dead and I'll have to kill their new husband. Not that I mind killing, but they're my wives dammit! That bastard should keep his damn hands off of them!!"

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak grunts and returns to his room full of wives and sons (and maybe some daughters, but who cares about those?).

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak gives Jon his most crushing grip and is pleased to note that the warrior gives just as good as he gets.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

"If you two can fight, many Andorens and Chelish will die and Gorum will be pleased. If you two cannot fight but do not turn and run, you will die fighting and Gorum will also be pleased. But if you turn and run..." Guligak gives them a grimace that could be a grin or a snarl. At any rate, it reveals a mouthful of broken, snarled, or missing teeth.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak nods sagely. "Makes sense. Yellow is the colour of cowards, the ribbon is like a flag of surrender, and mistletoe saps the life out of the tree. It is the perfect symbol for a network of spies. I approve."

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

"How do I tell one southern coward from another? Do your friends have some secret way of showing they are not the enemy?"

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

"No desire to kill Andorens?" Guligak laughs. "Why, do they not provide good sport? Maybe they squeal once, then fall over dead. Well, Gorum's glory will fall on me, not you, then. Is there anyone you need to keep alive?"

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

"I keep my wives fed and housed. What's there to complain about? But I will teach you about marriage later. The more time we waste on this love-talk, the longer it will be before we are smashing our enemies into pulp and collecting our gold."

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Oh, FYI -- Guligak is finalised now, too.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak snorts at the thought. "Bandying words with a woman is about as useful as shooting arrows at a sand dune," he mutters.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak comes stomping up to the gate, his none-too-clean armor and weapons jangling noisily.

"Next time, send a better class of lackey to deliver your notes, friend!" he interrupts noisily. "I was in bed with my wives when he came barging in. I had to give the dolt a clout to the head. Good luck for him that I was in a good mood or he'd have three feet of steel in his belly instead."

"So who is it who needs to be crushed by Gorum's fist?" he bawls enthusiastically. "And what makes you think these jesters and tarts will be up to the task?" He gestures at the his drinking companions from the previous evening.

OOC: oh I like that one much better...even though my dice just screwed me....

Yes, I like that die roller much better, too.

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Guligak's hp: 4d8=16

Personally, I like it when the DM rolls; then I can blame all of my bad luck on someone else. :-)

(Male Human (Kellid) Barbarian 1/Cleric 4)

Huzzah! Gorum does grant miracles for those willing to spill blood in his name!

First things first -- how do I roll hp?

Guligak snorts. "You think my wives are that poorly trained?! I'm not one of those southern milksops who coddles his women."

Guligak watches her with an appraising eye before speaking.

"You look healthy enough, wench. Can you bear sons? I could use another wife who can bear me strong sons."

Wish I had that Osirion book due out in November...but hey, I can make due ;)

Yeah, just keep talking about sand (whether it makes sense or not). ;)

Paellat Silvertongue wrote:
"Yes, but you can shoot an arrow into a sand dune all day, and nothing will happen except the dulling of your arrowhead."

"Only an idiot would attack a sand dune. That is why you never see a wise man attacking a sand dune. I will gladly teach you this and more over a drink," Guligak agrees affably.

Guligak nods approvingly without turning around. "I am a great teacher. One threat of a beating, and I have already taught you to throw away foolish talk about sand in favour of sensible talk about knives and bows. Maybe there is hope for you yet, with a great teacher like me to knock some sense into your soft skull."

Paellat Silvertongue wrote:

*Pae looks at the scary human with no fear in his heart*

"Strength is an illusion"

"Sand can tear the flesh off of a dragon in a sand storm, while the dragon can melt the sand on the dune" he riddles "So which is stronger? The sand or the dragon?"

"Sand?!" Guligak roars in disbelief. "Sand is not strong -- STEEL is strong! Gorum has much to teach you, weakling. Maybe I should beat you and see if sand pours out. But that would not be much sport, I think."

A snarl -- or is it a smile? -- splits Guligak's scarred face.

"I have come to this land of soft southerners to make the weak strong and the strong BLEED, all for the glory of Gorum!" He whirls his greatsword about his head wildly.

"So tell me, small one -- are you weak or strong?"

I think Jon and Guligak will get along just fine! :-)

Here's Jon, hard-bitten mercenary. He still needs to go shopping and have a life, but at least he's statted out. Tim, of course, can check him for conformance to the rules, but I'd also appreciate anyone's suggestions as to feats and skills. I will listen respectfully, but won't guarantee to accept any if they significantly alter the character concept.

Hopefully someone can help me out here. I haven't found the table with feats and ability score boosts by generic level in the beta rules, (pdf has its drawbacks) OR has that all gone by the wayside and the class level chart tells all?

It's Table 4-1.

My cleric of Gorum (with a little hint of barbarian) is named Guligak...
