Hi there,

I intended to buy some PFS scenarios using the anniversary promotinal code.
The code was accepted, but it doesn't show any effect. According to the blog information about the code it is supposed to be cumulative with subscription rebates and should work with Paizo's own pdfs.

Could you please have a look into my shopping cart and fix things?

Many thanks in advance,
Guenther

I guess, the mentioned subscription function is going to be added shortly?
I am really looking forward to these novels.

Cheers,
Günther

Hi there,

I was starting to feel worried for still not having received Pathfinder #27 and some other items which I subscribed to.

My worries were confirmed upon having a look at my order history (--> my account). The following items apparently were never sent to me - neither are they apparently supposed to be sent to me despite being part of my subscriptions:

- Pathfinder #27
- Pathfinder Module: Carrion Hill
- Pathfinder Chronicles: Cities of Golarion

When checking for the order of these items and its whereabouts, please also find out whether there are any other missing items I didn't notice.

Thanks in advance,
Günther

P.S. Edited: It's as if these items were never part of my subscription: No order, no entry in my download section.
Could it be tht these items got lost when you re-scheduled shipment of some of my order items in late 2009?

Hi there,

I just entered order #1179697 and tried in vain to apply the "PFRPG" promotional code. Unfortunately it didn't work on my pc. Could you please add the code to my order?

Considering the size of the order the promotional code really makes a difference!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Kind regards,
Günther

Hi there,

for those who didn't notice the thread in the PF RPG section: Necromancer is to support PF RPG rules! :-) This promises to be good news for everyone expecting new Necromancer products already for quite some time!

There is quite a long thread already about which products customers would like Necromancer to develop for PF RPG rules: mainly people demand new PF RPG versions of existing classics although some people already chimed in and voted in favour of the products already announced (and not delivered yet).

Those who would like to chime in, too: Fee free to do so here or in the PF RPG section thread.

Kr,
Günther

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

Please move the "Necromancer is going to support PFRPG" thread to the Necromancer section: It's looking more and more like a "my favourite request not implemented with Pathfinder" wishing list. That's surely to no small part due to placing this thread into the PFRPG section. I'd like to see this thread refocus on its subject line. It's really worth having this kind of discussion.
Thanks!

Kr,
Guenther

Hi there,

as mentioned here I would like to add a few items to my preorder - shipping costs to Europe are high and the book seems to be delayed for some more weeks.

Could you please add the items currently in my shopping cart to my preorder? According to Vic it should be still possible to do so.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi there,

I see that Paizo cooperates with Necromancer Games.
There is a separate message board section for Necromancer Games.

But where can I buy Necromancer Games in the Paizo Store?
The Paizo store doesn't offer pdfs or print products.

Why does Paizo not offer Necromancer Game products?
There are other online shops offering Necromancer pdfs. But preferrably I would like to buy at Paizo.

Thanks in advance for your answer!

Hi there,

I just read here on the website of german 4e publisher Feder & Schwert ("feather & sword") the following news:

  1. Publication of 4e products will be discontinued at the end of this year.
  2. The last product to be published will be the Dungeon Master Guide, i.e. only the core books will be available in german.
  3. No new 4e product after 1st January 2009
  4. F&S will concentrate on its Warhammer Fantasy and Warhamer 40,000 rpg product line and a so far unknown project.

The spring/ summer 2009 product prospectus of F&S found here still lists several 4e products like the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide for the first quarter of 2009. The prospectus was published last month. So the decision must have been pretty sudden.

This is bad news for 4e D&D fans in german speaking countries.
This could be good news for german speaking Pathfinder fans, if german Pathfinder products are going to take up of the market share left by F&S.

This will mainly depend on translation quality and of course on the publsihing date of the first german Pathfinder products. So far no official information about publishing dates is available on german Pathfinder licensee's Ulisses Spiele web site, though.

Cheers,
Günther

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

I agree on the review above.

For those interested in similary fine products:
The "complete"-series contains titles of varying quality, but really recommendable are the following ones:

In addition the very same authour also wrote the Morning Star campaign setting which was narrowly defeated by the Eberron setting in WotC's setting contest.

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

I found out today the hard way that there is a word limit for product reviews. ;-) So here is the continuation of my product review found here:

2nd part of Guennarr's product review wrote:

Next to each monster entry you find icons like wolf heads or a masks. They indicate for which kind of encounter the monster at hand is best suited. The following concept icons exist:
- combat,
- stealth/ misdirection,
- critters with magical/ supernatural powers,
- roleplaying encounters, and
- extremely deadly monsters.

Considering these additional DM helps, it comes as no wonder that also the appendices are clearly above average monster book standard. The appendices don't only contain the standard CR listing, but also monster listings by environment, by type and subtype, monsters advancing by class, updated monster summoning tables, and a listing of new d20 material.

These features combined make Fantasy Bestiary clearly stand out in matters of usability.

In summary Fantasy Bestiary offers a nice selection of new monsters whose quality ranges from average to very good. Fantasy Bestiary's main asset is its easy to use approach of presenting these monsters, though.

Considering the clearance price of 10 USD (compared to the original srp of 45 USD) and the above mentioned unique features you can hardly do anything wrong by ordering one of the last copies of this book.

P.S.
Interesting for some people might be the authour listing which contains some well known names like Keith Baker and Paizo's Fred Wesley Schneider. ;-)

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

Hi everyone,

there already was a thread for german people on these boards.
This thread is intended to get an overview of german speaking people in general.

As soon as the website supports a player search database, threads like this will grow obsolete. But until then...

I'll start and please just copy and update the following part of the posting:

Hi there,

I am sorry to have to start another thread in this part of the message boards. :(

The above mentioned order was shipped in two packages.

  • Package #1 (PF Campaign Setting, Crimson Throne Mapfolio, and PF #12) arrived.

  • Package #2 (containing PF #13 and PF Companion: 2nd Darkness) didn't arrive.

For comparision:
Order #987162 - part 1 (shipped on Aug 4) did arrive
Order #1031389 (shipped on Aug 26) did arrive
Order #1039178 (shipped on Sep 2) did arrive (yesterday).

I fear that the second package got lost in transit.

The first part of the order already arrived two or three weeks ago.
Later orders also arrived already.
The shipment already occured more than 1.5 months ago.

For this reason I kindly ask you to send a replacement package containing
- Pathfinder #13 and
- Pathfinder Companion: Second Darkness.

Thank you in advance for your effort!

Kr,
Günther

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

Hi there,

the package containing PF 13, PF map pack and the PFCS arrived today. Great books I am very much looking forward to reading. Unfortunately for quite some time my reading pleasure is affected by one thing again and again: I can't remember the last package whose content didn't show bent edges or even bent spines.

I was most surprised that even this big package of one thick hard cover, the maps and PF 13 is no exception. Even the PFCS has a bent spine.

Please use sturdier package material or thicker cushioning.
It's no pleasure if your brand new books look upon arrival as if they had already seen heavy use.
Thanks!

Kind regards,
Günther

"Expeditious Retreat Press Goes 4th Edition!

Expeditious Retreat Press is proud to announce the acquisition of Advanced Player's Guide. Although we were saddened that Necromancer Games could not produce Advanced Player's Guide, we are pleased to bring the work to the public. (...)"

Source: Expeditious Retreat Press web site.

Comment:
Really sad! It was Necromancer Games' idea to deliver those rules in an Advanced Player's Guide which were missing in the 4e PHB.

Am I correct that the GSL back and forth is responsible for Necromancers handling over such a valuable (and surely in high demand!) product to a different publisher?

Paizo's and Necromancer's combined market position surely would have been considerably improved, if Paizo published the reference 3.x rules and Necromancer the essential 4e rule supplement/ completion...
:(((

Aren't there any new data sets any more?
Since Pathfiner #6 no new data sets were made available? Was support for RPGxplorer discontinued?

It might be mentioned elsewhere, but I didn't find a thread on this:

Currently they still show the status "currently unavailable".

Hi there,

I don't mean to be a smart ass, but just reading the blog entry of July 8 left a "bad aftertaste" for me: I know it's fiction and I know that folks on the other side of the pond make more carefree use of that part of history - but quoting from part of the anthem used by the nazis feels really odd to me...

Kr,
Günther

P.S.: Über Alles! = supreme over everything.
Don't have to mention which "faction" was inserted in real history, do I?

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

Sorry for bringing up an "old" topic, but the latest increases of shipment costs make this topic quite relevant again:

I just had a look into the store and wanted to buy a 10 $$ book. Shipment costs: 19 $$!

Is there any progress on letting store purchases be shipped with monthly subscription shipments?!

Thanks!

Kr,
Günther

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

Hi there,

the above mentioned subscription order is
a) containing "cancelled" items (i.e. items already sent to me).
b) pending items which weren't shipped to me yet.

Why does this order still the pending status?
When will the items be sent?

Thanks and kr,
Günther

I looked for a very long time for a rule that made ambushes a threat to high level PCs, too. The best ruleswise solution I found so far, was created by Green Ronin Publishing. Here is a short introductional excerpt from Green Ronin's Advance Game Master's Guide, page 27 f.:

"Bushwhacking Rules
One common problem GMs have when trying to run
games with urban settings, espionage, or assassination as
major themes is the diffi culty in dropping a foe in a single
blow when attacking from stealth. Obviously, characters
with sneak attack get their bonus dice when attacking a fl atfooted
foe and assassins have their death attack, but some
campaign styles require everyone to have a chance to drop a
foe in one shot from ambush. Vast pools of hit points work
well for general combat in such settings, but they make
assassination attempts problematic at best. To overcome this
drawback, try introducing the bushwhack rule."

About the rule mechanics:
- Condition: Target = flat footet + unaware of the attack.
- Resolution: Fortitude Save. If save fails, target drops unconscious.

I really like this mechanism:
1. It doesn't make back stabbing attacks by rogues useless.
2. It doesn't try to counter the big hit point issue by just increasing damage points (which only shifts the problem).
3. It isn't necessarily lethal for a PC (as long as there are fellows to save him), but it surely means a certain complication for players as a whole.

I don't cling to this specific implementation of the rule, there is surely some room for improvement. And it is certainly only an optional rule. Maybe others like it, too, though?

Cheers,
Günther

Hello Cosmo,

today finally above mentioned order arrived. So please don't send the replacement shipment which is kept on hold at Paizo.

Apparently the austrian custom office liked to have a closer look and to charge 10 EUR of taxes for a 32 EUR shipment. :((

Nevertheless thanks again for your help!
Hopefully the other shipment (including PF #7) which really got lost some two months ago, will arrive soon, too.

Greetings,
Günther

Does anyone know this product?
How does it relate to standard D&D (completely new magic system vs. supplement for standard D&D magic)?
Do you like it?

Thanks for your feedback!
Günther

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

Suggestion 1: No more vanishing postings (this is my third attempt to send this posting!)

Suggestion 2: Move the "Paizo community" part further up and/ or include a real "general/ misc." category. I barely believed my eyes when I found e.g. a thread called "gaming & family" in "Pathfinder/ general". And there are some more misplaced topics which are neither Pathfinder nor directly D&D related.

Alternatively maybe you would like to make more generous use of your admin rights and move misplaced topics to the correct board categories (similar to policies of other forums/ message boards).

Thanks!

Günther

Taldor (Pathfinder Campaign Setting Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

Your recent changes in message board layout did vastly improve the clearness of topics.

Unfortunately some message board users seem to be confused by the new allocation of categories (or are maybe simply too lazy to scroll further down?).

I am quite surprised to find topics like "Gaming & Families" in "Pathfinder / General". I'd rather expect setting specific information there.

On the other hand one of the previously most popular sections of the board (now called "Paizo Community / D&D...") is drying up more and more. Maybe it's just the lack of any real "general" category for everything not directly Pathfinder related.

My proposal: Please move the Paizo Community content further up.
Alternatively you could make more generous use of your admin powers and move misplaced topics in the categories they belong to.

It looks like a minor complaint, but I wouldn't like to see some areas of the boards to grow into hotchpotchs or garbage bins for everything.

Thanks!
Günther

Hi there,

I just tried to order the Everquest PHB and the Everquest Adventure on sale on your site.

I am very astonished by the shipping costs proposed in the check out routine: 39.85 USD shipping costs to Europe for two books?!

Please could you check if the size/ weight of the items is correctly stored in your database, i.e. if the shipping costs were calculated correctly?

Thanks for your effort!

Hi there,

according to order history my latest superscriber parcel was sent on March, 10th. I am used to delivery times of three weeks, but by now it's more than one month.

So I ask you:

@ Cosmo: Do you know about any delivery problems to Europe?

Thanks for your input!

Hi there,

Paizo website wrote:

"Beginning March 10, 2008, Pathfinder Adventure Path subscribers receive the Pathfinder Advantage: 15% off of suggested retail price of all products on paizo.com (with the exception of non-Paizo PDFs). This 15% discount even applies to other Paizo subscriptions that aren't normally discounted! (If you already subscribe to these products, you need do nothing—appropriate discounts will be applied automatically.)"

I have a question concerning your offer.

My March superscriber items were sent on March 11, 2008 (i.e. when my subscription items are subject to the Pathfinder Advantage).

My order history claims a price total that corresponds to the normal store prices, though:
Neither the reduced Pathfinder subscription price, nor the Pathfinder Advantage (15%) for the other subscription items seem to have been applied.

Is the price information in the order history wrong or did you forget to apply the Pathfinder advantage and the reduced Pathfinder subscription price?

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,

Sorry, dear folks at Paizo, but I have to test your patience a little bit in order to explain a general concern about this project as a whole - and of course proposing means to fix it.

The first draft is out and as could be expected a flood of well intended feed back is arriving on these boards. Everyone has her/ his own take on the proposed changes and therefore the feedback wildly varies. Like several other posters here I can hardly imagine how all of this feedback could possibly be considered (especially when taking into account that you probably already busily work on A2!)..

After letting myself be dragged into some discussions of personal rp preferences (those discussions which can never be resolved to everyone's liking), I wonder if you at Paizo can't provide some more insight on your design decisions.

From my point of view you fired the result of your (especially Jason's) months lasting secret project at us and are now gauging the response. The problem is that we are not in the know of which aims PRPG is supposed to fulfill in total (apart from the generals: strengthening of base classes, more fun at all levels, backwards compatibility).

You already included some background information in A1 and on these boards, but usually I'd expect some more information for tasks like this one ("Test A1 and give feed back!"):
Paizo info for testers:
A) What are the specific goals of the rule changes? Which 3.5 issues will not be addressed?
B) Which proposed change in A1 is supposed to address which problem in 3.5?
Our part:
C) Do the changes fulfill their purpose?
Are there any unwished side effects?
D) Total assessment of the A1 changes
E) Proposals for improvement

In the best of all worlds we (the fans) had a word in deciding which aims PRPG is supposed to fulfill. Ok, that could have turned into quite some discussion and flames and so it''s probably better that you decided the matter by publishing A1. ;-)

Unfortunately this still leaves us somehow guessing about the goals.
How are we to satisfyingly do C) through E) without info on A) and B)?

Sure, everyone already does so somehow in these threads, everyone to her/ his best knowledge and with best intentions. Most found their individual answer which goals A1 is to follow and which problems in 3.5 to solve. But will all these different interpretations be combinable into one single product? How to reach a consensus this way and not appear like an autocrat playing with fan emotions? How to agree on something if all parties involved have different assumptions about the goal? ;-)

I kindly ask you guys at Paizo to give some kind of mission statement: Which problems with 3.5 does PRPG address, which ones not? (E.g.: no word yet about how to facilitate handling of high level PCs - will this be addressed in a later release or is this out of scope of PRPG?)

I am sure some people will know anyway which kind of product PRPG has to be in order to not immediately make them cancel all of their subscriptions. :-p But the rest of us would like to get to know more about "A)" and "B)"

Thank you for letting us participate, and thanks in advance for your input!!

Cheers,
Guenther

I like most of what I read so far. Especially the approach to grappling et al. and the skill renovation sound promising.

There is one aspect of the rules alpha, though, that is both very unbalancing
in combination with 3.5 and therefore unsettling for me:

MOST of the enthusiastic readers here thank you for the built in backwards compatibility with 3.5. This promise isn't really true, though, as you mention on the very last pages of Alpha 1. And the reason for this can be found in the new base classes from my humble point of view.

The increase of feats and special powers in each new class increases their relative
power level so much that 3.5 classes (and monsters!!) pale in comparision considerably.

I understand your motives: Give players new powers/ feats at *every* level.
5on't let players feel bored. Unfortunately you throw one of the principles of alpha 1 over board: 'eep it simple!

Just have a glance at the length of feats and class ability descriptions in classes like fiighter or rogue.

The disadvantages are considerable:
- Complexity of the classes is rather increased than reduced (more abilities/ feats to be memorized and put into play)
- the often criticised 'point of no return' when PCs grow too complex to be played easily (thought to be around level 12 by some) will be reached even earlier than before (keep in mind: your PCs will accumulate more feats and powers per level than before)
- This considerable increase of power in comparision to 3.5 classes will render the latter virtually useless as the necessary 'upgrades' to.3.5 classes in order to keep them equal (and fun to play in PRPG) easily equal a complete revamp of the 3.5 class in question.
Already tried to convert a samurai or scout in a minute?
- 3.5 monsters won't be usable either without major adjustments (or willingly accepting underpowered monsters)

I don't think the necessary 'adjustments' to be minor ones. Additionally I expected PRPG exactly NOT to follow the 4e train of ever more powers per level.

You don't pacify 4e fans with this move and you alienate those who take your promises of backwards compatibility with 3.5 lteral.

The funniest thing is that this new edition is supposed to aim at classic D&D lovers but rather does so at high power.character fans who were supposed to be missioned by 4e.

Please reconsider this needless power up of all classes. Isn't one fighter feat per level enough? Do rogues really need so much sneak attack damage? Why not let D&D PCs stay compatible with PRPG? (Not complaining about minor changes like skill and feat changes!)

I hadn't thought that backwards compatibility from 3.5 to 3.0 would turn out to be that much easier accomplished than trying the same from '3.75' to 3.5..

Looking forward to a modified proposal, ,
Guenther

Hi there,

I really liked the rare Cthulu inspired monster now and then. There was a side bar in one of the first AP issues explaining that this borrowing in the Cthulu setting was supposed to happen rarely.

Then more and more Cthulu like monsters appeared (if you include the modules, too).

I am wondering: Will there be more information in the upcoming campaign setting about why and how Cthulu like monsters came into existence in the setting and how they fit into it?

As I understand, Pathfinder is a setting deeply owing to classic D&D, i.e. devils, daemons, and demons usually make up the big evil (non humanoid) guys. Will all future chaotic critters borrow from Cthulu mythos? (if yes: what will be demons' role in the setting?)

Or is it just that there are so many Cthulu fans among Paizo's authours? (if yes, I'd still like to understand the "ecologic niche" of these critters)

Cheers,
Günther

Hi there,

wherever you currently look online, new first hand 4e playing experiences seem to spring up. I just read in a different thread that same as Paizo some other major rpg companies didn't get an official look into the 4e rules, either. But obviously they got a chance to test it and gain some first impressions on it.
E.g. Chris Pramas of Green Ronin Publishing in this article of his.

Surely some of you people at Paizo also got an opportunity to at least get a first glance at D&D experience and/ or in 4e test playing rounds. As the NDA doesn't seem to be effective/ as restrictive any more, could you please shed some light on your first impressions?

It is evident to me that any first impression of yours still wouldn't mean much in terms of which rule system Paizo will use in 2009. You certainly need more than first impressions for such a momentous decision.

But reading all of the chit-chat of questionable reliability on other sites, I feel myself looking forward to a more reliable first hand experience report - yours! ;-)

Hi there,

Somehow personnally I lately got the feeling that a certain aspect of your APs might prove to be a problem for some players and DMs on the long run:

Put shortly: Who wants to save the world all the time?

At least my players grew pretty tired of high level adventures by now (and it is not only due to the increasing complexity of high level stats)..

Don't get me wrong: We love to roleplay, therefore we love interconnected adventures (ie APs), but we long for the old times when you weren't high level after the equivalent of one whole AP.

I know that I can insert side track after side track, but what would that do to the story line and which sense in *subscribing* to APs?

In short: I love your work, I'd really like to keep on playing them and therefore I kindly ask: Is it possible to publish APs with slower average level increase which don't end in a 'save the world scenario'?

Thanks in advance for your feed back!
Guenther

PS
... And for those interested in chiming in: Please stay respectful towards opinions about the game differing from yours.

Hi there,

I just received the ordered item cards. The parcel was in top condition, the content complete. No complaints about that. ;-)

As you can see the order value is 92.28 $$.
I should have expected that I had to pay import taxes, though :(
(i.e. about 21.50 $$).
What I didn't expect was that I had to pay additionally C.O.D. charges (i.e. about another 9.50 $$!!)!

Unfortunately this makes this order one of my most expensive purchases so far: 92.28 $$ grew to more than 120 $$!! :(( You are not responsible for import taxes.

But how can it be that I am charged 9.50 $$ of additional postage???

Cheers,
Günther

Dear people at Paizo,

I ordered at your Green Ronin "on sale" promotion a few days ago.
In order to avoid shipping costs to grow too high, I ordered two books per order only.

Yesterday you informed me by mail that a first shipment is on its way to me containing three books! (orders ## 840364 & 840367)

Can I be sure that the shipping costs won't exceed the amount given during the ordering process? (there are several orders pending right now and the shipment cost increase is drastic if too many books are shipped in one package)

Could you please confirm the shipping costs of 6.86 USD per order?
Thanks in advance for your effort!

Hi everyone,

I was thrilled to find Encyclopedia Magica 1, 3, and 4 as downloadable pdf files in your store (-> link ).

I am just wondering why you don't offer Encyclopedia Magica 2:
Isn't the file available any more or is your store undergoing a revamp?

Thanks for your answer!

Greetings,
Günther

Hi everyone,

I just read a Dragon article on new feats and skill tricks for roguish characters. Reading it I wondered:

Are skill tricks intended to enhance a rogue and add something not "featish" or "skillish"? Or is it just a means to add more "feat like" abilities and thereby circumventing the feat number restrictions of some base classes?

Why would I think this way?
Both feats and skill tricks have requisits. Both can contain certain minimum skills, both provide abilities to characters which are beyond normal skills and sometimes resemble special abilities of monsters.

The maximum number of feats/ skill tricks is calculated differently, but apart from that I don't see why skill tricks couldn't be called feats, too.

Do I err? Did I miss something setting skill tricks further apart from feats? Or am I correct and D&D develops into a direction as AD&D did in its late 2nd edition days (you remember the core rule expansion books on skills, epic levels, and skills?)...

Looking forward to your input,
Günther
