I guess that Kae Yoss simply doesn't want to dispense with his beloved Revolverheld. And in good old rpg tradition anything but one's personal favourite is nonsense. ;)
The "Einsteigerbox" is actually being translated right now.
As mentioned above all german Pathfinder products are published by Ulisses Spiele. Thanks to F&S's generousness german Pathfinder products are based 100%ly on the same rules glossary already used by F&S, though.

That's the literal translation of the class name.
Looking at the class fluff description and abilities, there are some other alternatives. Of course we know Stephen King's Dark Tower novels, but the main character of that line was really restricted to revolvers as his "signature weapon". Gunslingers from Pathfinder aren't. For this reason there are some more alternatives to consider. Fortunately there is some more time before having to decide in favour of one of them. And of course we are Germans. Why should we stick with the easiest translation, if there are other options? ;) (btw. the French version apparently calls that class "pistolero")
In the meantime we already had to decide how to call the Magus. We had liked to keep the english class name, but again an old choice caused some trouble: Wizards are called "Magier" in German, too close to the new class name. So we call them "Kampfmagus" (~ battle magus) which causes less confusion with German players.
These examples just are to illustrate one thing: Maintaining and expanding the glossary of German Pathfinder rule terms is a science. ;) It's not just class names - every feat, every spell, every class ability, every archetype and its abilities have to be tracked and to be considered when looking for new rule terms. I am sure that this job isn't any easier for the guys here at Paizo. And their glossary is likely to be two to three hard cover books ahead of ours. And then there are of course the campaign setting and NPC names...
If anyone is interested in this topic, we could create a separate thread for this topic. We are way off topic by now. ;)

There were many voices in our team in favour of "Zauberer". It does make a lot of sense. And our main advantage is that we are fans and long time D&D/ PF players who are aware of some things in need of improvement But three years ago backwards compatibility was a major concern. Nobody knew how well received the german version of PF would be.
Conidering our current knowledge of PF acceptance, we would surely decide differently. It is the same as with English PF: It comprises a lot of rpg tradition. ;)

P.S. Warlock would be rather "Hexer". We left that road open to us.
And we decided in the meantime more and more often in favour of the more adequate instead of the more traditional class names. E.g. "ritter" instead of "Chevalier" for the cavalier class in the APG. On the other hand we had to go for "Paktmagier" instead of "Beschwörer" for summoner, because conjurer was (traditionally) translated as "Beschwörer". Btw. the upcoming UC will contain some special naming challenges (gunslinger, I am looking at thee!).

Ok. Some introduction for those german speaking readers here who are more familiar with paizo.com than the offerings of the rpg shops in town. ;)
I'll keep it in English for those non-german speaking readers interested in this matter (sorry, this rant will not be about a Panzer RPG, wrong thread).
The german Pathfinder translation team came into existence when some german guys met here on the Paizo message boards about the time when the first announcements of the Pathfinder APs hit the road. They started to translate Paizo blog articles and posted the translations in german rpg forums "promoting" the new APs. Eventually this evolved to the Pathfinder translation team, still 100%ly consisting of Pathfinder fans, still 100%ly hobbyist translators, but adhering to the high quality late 3.5 translations available in german.
I am also a member of the team. We are aware of the fact that there is a major split in the german rpg scene. Players of the English version would hardly ever go for a translated version, be it for impatience, past translation quality (including D&D products translated by other companies, ranging back to 1st ed.), the feeling of elitism or whatever. There is no sense in trying to discuss the german version with these players because such discussions tend to be deeply personal.
Nevertheless some information for those interested in what's going on with german Pathfinder:
Core Rules, APG, Bestiary 1, and GMG are available. Bestiary 2 will be available shortly, UM is being translated, all other rules hardcover books will be translated, too.
Several modules, companions, a lot of campaign setting books, and the serpent skull and carrion crown ap were translated. Next will be king maker, for the jade regent AP will be omitted.
Our quality standards adhere to the late 3.5 translations of Feder & Schwert who created fairly high quality books. The original rules glossary passed on by Feder & Schwert enabled us to stay pretty close to these german 3.5 translation standards. Therefore german Pathfinder is as much backwards compatible to 3.5 as the English version.
The first two translations were not exactly works to boast with, but in the meantime we put a lot of dedication into establishing pretty high translation standards. Our translations might feel "too german" for those accustomed to the English versions, but rest assured: feedback of the pretty critical role playing lot in german forums tells us, that it feels right to those used to german texts. It is as good as any hobby project can hope to get (and in fact it still is a fan project). :)
We also put a lot of effort into including any known errata of the English books in the translations (the advantage of the time gap between English and German release dates), and to provide web enhancements for the products filling any existings gaps left by untranslated products. The product schedule is supposed to provide a "full package". E.g. Serpent Skull was accompanied by "Crucible of Chaos", the Mwangi Expanse and the Darklands campaign setting books, and the Sargava companion book. We also provided a very large web enhancement with dozens of so far untranslated monsters just to fill all gaps in the random encounter tables of the Mwangi Expanse book (!). We support several german rpg forums answering questions and providing as much information about new products as we are entitled to do.
In short, german Pathfinder is doing fairly fine. A release pattern of two books per month is more than ever existed so far - including all D&D editions back to 1st edition. And people seem to be willing to buy even more (but then there are some limits to a hobbyists' project).

German Pathfinder translation team

In terms of copyright, users are allowed to do whatever they want for personal, non-commercial use. From what I understand, I am allowed to edit digital maps and make monster chits and make NPC handout cards and reprint them for my home and PbP games to my heart's content. This kind of stuff goes on all the time and is blind eye-sanctioned on this site because Paizo allows the email-it-to-me-too threads to continue.
It's a pretty small step from there to allowing owners of the material to see what others have done using the same purchased materials. It would be a huge step forward in terms of increasing the quality of the fan experience.
The question would be how to protect Paizo's interest in preventing people from distributing their copyrighted material while at the same time enabling people to share their fan material.
Referring to your proposal: How to do this without having to re-program half of the website? Your proposal sounds neat, but not exactly like an easy task for Paizo.
A different proposal: If the problem is largely to create your own version of the copyrighted maps - why not create a website for fan created alternative maps? You'd be able to use these maps for any fan project, wouldn't you? And any map for a certain area just needed to be done once.

Hi there,
I intended to buy some PFS scenarios using the anniversary promotinal code.
The code was accepted, but it doesn't show any effect. According to the blog information about the code it is supposed to be cumulative with subscription rebates and should work with Paizo's own pdfs.
Could you please have a look into my shopping cart and fix things?

Last year's visit was very much appreciated by folks here. And in the meantime at least PF in Germany seems to have attracted quite some new players who would love to meet some of you guys in person. Paizocon is too far (and too early - before vacation time over here).

I am against a book of prestige classes!
I wouldn't like the prc bloat of old to return to the game.
I am totally ok with the fact that there are a lot of other options to choose from and that there are only some prc which add _flavour_ to the game.
I couldn't care less for a rules element which isn't central to the game any more according to the makers of the very game. If any new prc, then please keep it setting specific. That's imho the niche prc fill very nicely.

Apparently this changed in the meantime. So why a new company and not just reanimate Necromancer Games? And why not team up with Bill and do all of this work together?

Hi Jason,
thank you guys for bringing two great 3e classics (ToH and Advanced Bestiary) to a lot of people's attention.
I'd point out two more books in the same line: "Creature Collection" (Swords & Sorcery (White Wolf)), the first 3e monster book ever. The 3.0 version of that book was somewhat rushed and had some stat and balancing problems, similar to the original ToH. Nevertheless I still refer to this book due to its unique monsters which easily bring up images of possible scenarios in the reader's mind.
The other book is the "Book of Templates (Deluxe Edition)" (Goodman Games, respectively Silverthorne Games): If I had to choose between Advanced Bestiary and Book of Templates, it would be a hard choice. Similar high quality, hard cover binding in both cases, 250 vs. 190 pages of content, different pattern of organizing the templates, but without much overlapping. So actually I recommend both. I am looking forward to see some of these monsters/ templates in future PF products.
Ok. There is Ptolus. What am I to say? It'd be great if there could be an official spot in Golarion to place Ptolus. And of course many PF comptatible new Ptolus products by Monte would be appreciated very much by a lot of folks out there! :)

Thinking one step further: Is this concept common practice?
Do all players appreciate that "blend" of roleplaying?
How many "fireball lovers" would complain that the game was bad - just because their spell caster didn't shine as much as they had hoped for?
Would they care for e.g. the rogue who got some more stage presence this one time?
The point is very valid but it might be hard to realize that kind of play with certain players...
Reactions in this thread show that PF supports a lot of different playing styles, and everyone favours a different one. ;)

Play it, change it to your liking or stay with 3.5 (and its ever decreasing player base).
There is no other choice. You already seem to have had a closer look on the rules, now play them. Then the feeling in your guts will tell you whether you like the game or not.
Regarding 3.5 compatibility: In the same posting you claim that you want to continue to use your 3.5 stuff and worry about the continued usefulness of your Eberron gaming books. Then you complain that 3.5 might be too similar to PF to keep it apart from each other.
Apparently you already know the answer you want to hear. ;)
If you feel that not enough players support 3.5 anymore, you might be forced to choose the lesser of two evils and give it a try. You'll be surprised that PF still shows a certain similarity to 3.5.. And there is still the possibility of house rules in your very own group which turn back some of the PF changes.
Wish you fun and tell us about your first PF game experiences.

That's my issue, too.
Pathfinder RPG: a game using the open gaming licence, known for the free availability of its rules (--> PRD).
Hero Labs: a software using digital rights management (technically the opposite of what the OGL offers). I read discussions on why they use it and I understand their reasons. Nevertheless it doesn't go well with the openness of the Pathfinder rules.
Then there is this unclear pricing of Hero Labs (not talking about now, but who knows how much will be charged for future rule expansions?).
Paizo: signing an exclusive agreement with the makers of Hero Labs, preventing any other character generating programme from officially supporting the Pathfinder rules?
Frankly, I don't see the logic of that move. It contradicts anything of what I perceived about Paizo's attempts to promote Pathfinder RPG as an open rules set.
Acutally I'd have preferred to see Paizo offer some programme of their own own/ a web char generator or to give free reign to some open source team.
This looks as if the Paizo team just chose their personal favourite tool without any second thoughts on aspects like openness or availability on non windows platforms.

On the iPad question above: HL cannot run on iPads. It only works on Mac computers using emulating software which technically pretends to be a windows computer. There's currently nothing like that for iPads (and I doubt that there will be).
Actually I am also somewhat taken by surprise by not considering iPads. The whole industry seems to be working on solutions for iPads and now a licence agreement is being signed which effectively excludes this platform?

Do you mean Green Ronin's Advanced Player's Manual?
That book contains the feats Coordinated Melee Attack (+2 on attack roles when attacking the same opponent and all attackers using the same feat) and Improved Coordinated Melee Attack (aoo after one feat user scores a hit and other feat user is close enough).
Did you mean these feats?

Seriously: The Tome of Horrors (3.0) was updated for (3.5) and re-named accordingly Tome of Horrors Revised. It contains hundreds of old edition monsters which were being updated for 3.5 rules.
And you can still get it for a very competitive price of 7.99 bucks e.g. here. It's a pdf and was actually never offered as a print version due to its size (> 300 pages).
If you are just keen on the 3.5 stats, you might be interested in purchasing Pathfinder module E1 which features stats of a brownie (an ice fey template was applied to that one, though). That module as well as the Bloodsworn Vale module contain quite some feys.

Hi there,
I was starting to feel worried for still not having received Pathfinder #27 and some other items which I subscribed to.
My worries were confirmed upon having a look at my order history (--> my account). The following items apparently were never sent to me - neither are they apparently supposed to be sent to me despite being part of my subscriptions:
- Pathfinder #27
- Pathfinder Module: Carrion Hill
- Pathfinder Chronicles: Cities of Golarion
When checking for the order of these items and its whereabouts, please also find out whether there are any other missing items I didn't notice.

Il y'a une version allemande, mais beaucoup de joueurs allemands utilisent la version anglaise. Le résultat: Un mixage des expressions de règles alemands et anglais dans les plus de groupes Pathfinder ou D&D. ;-)

I was fortunate enough to purchase most of the old edition pdfs I was interested in before the licence was being withdrawn. Still there were quite some pdfs which I couldn't and probably never will be able to buy now. :(
Nevertheless WotC has any right and quite some reason for doing what they did. They certainly alienated quite some people out there. But on the other hand the original posting shows that there are always people who don't know about that.
And in the end WotC just might want to discontinue any unwanted distraction like old edition products which might compare favourably with their new products or their new digital products.

I am also noticing that despite the cooperation between Paizo an Necomancer apparently drivethrurpg.com still holds the only rights for pdf distribution. Too bad...

Sorry, I am a real Necromancer fan, but this is too expensive.

Green Ronin's Races Of Renown series was really very very good. There's a bunch of stuff you need to look at with a magnifying glass, but there's also a lot of good stuff. I'm pretty sure YMMV with these as there is so much stuff in them that there is bound to be some you love, some you go 'meh' at, and some you go 'WTF?' at. Worth what I paid though, especial Plot & Poison (Drow race book). I liked it more than Drow of the Underdark to be honest. The Orc book was very good also. The Dwarf and Elf books though were not that great in comparison. Seems like the Monster Races got better treatment than the core races, which may have something to do with the fact that there is more freedom with them than there are with the cores.
I agree with your take on Legends & Lairs. Glad that I didn't order any of those before having a closer look at them.
I disagree with your opinion on Swords & Sorcery books. Relics & Rituals and the monster books as well as the Scarred Lands setting books are still some of my favourites. But of course this is a matter of taste and what I love so much about this setting might something totally disliked by someone else. My favourites of the setting: nice setting mood (after the catastrophical event), nice pantheon background (actually two conflicting pantheons), quite evocative monsters (more so in the two first monster books). Unfortunately barely any adventures and only one novel trilogy never read by me...
Necromancer Games: Love the old style mood. My favourite is "The Grey Citadel".
Green Ronin: Learned about that company too late. Really some of the best products. In hindsight strange that my first OGL product was Sword & Sorcery's first monster book (appearing before MM hit the shelves), while I never noticed the Freeport adventures which are still really good.
Dragonlance: I purchased the revised bestiary and really liked it. So much about different tastes... ;-)
Really disliked:
- most of Mongoose Publishing books,
- Fast Forward Entertainment,
- some (but not all) of the Slayer's Guide series, various specialist wizard books,
- most 3rd party pdfs focussing on new spells, feats, or PrC without any real fluff background,
- WotC planar handbook, complete psionics, Book of nine swords (sorry, not my cup of tea, too much over the top or by today's terms "4e-ish").

Some people claim that we play a dying hobby and that the younger crowd gathers around D&D 4e.
From that perspective it's great to see that the third largest group of voters consists of people of age 18+ -- players attracted to 3.x style roleplaying -- making me feel more optimistic about our hobby.

I'd like to add something referring to the thread title:
This re-printing is intended to be for PFRPG rules.
By now we realize (looking into the monster list in the Bonus Bestiary and after some comments by Paizo staff) that the PFRPG Bestiary will contain most monsters from MHB, but not all of the iconic ones.
On the other hand PFRPG Bestiary contains some of the ToH monsters, but only a few of them.
My suggestioin therefore: Just include those monsters in ToH for PFRPG which aren't already covered in PFRPG Bestiary. Use the saved space instead to present those 3.5-MHB iconic monsters which didn't make it into the PFRPG Bestiary.

Comparing Bonus Bestiary stats with 3.5 stats of the same critter:
Most changes are really minor.
But some monsters changed quite drastically: HP inreases up to 50% and so on.
Are there any rules for which monsters are subject to these bigger adjustments?

With regards to all the great modules and adventure path books you published so far using 3.5 rules, I'd want the Bestiary II to include those monsters which were often referred to in those 3.5 adventures, but which are not part of the Bestiary I any more. I am totally in favour of anything new and unique for the game, but considering the claimed backwards compatibility, I'd want these monsters to be included.
As an afterhought: I know abotu the restrictions of the OGL (namely the off limits status of beholders, mind flayers and other IP). With regards to discussions about upcoming/ existing "replacements" for their role in the game: Please ensure that not only the role, but also the relative encounter strength (-> CR) of any replacement is up to its older "brethren".
That would make conversion of old modules - and also creation of the "converting content from other systems"-part of the upcoming GameMastery book - so much easier, wouldn't it? ;-)

I wouldn't consider fighting techniques for longswords to be an appropriate topic for a _dungeon_mastering_ book, either. ;-)
But I get the meaning of your point. I am looking forward to the final book and hope that it will be as much encompassing as you make it sound. There is certainly a lot of topics affecting dungeon mastering which are worth a closer examination and in which you have plenty of experience to share with your fellow readers.
Just please make this a real dungeon master's book.
There will be certainly enough other rule books for adding new rules to the game.
