So, our GM mentioned that we weren't too far away from level 5.
Upon thinking what to level Guard next, I decided it would be a level of Fighter again, for Bravery and hitpoints.

I'm going to retrain the unused Improved Shield Bash with Shield Focus, to add a bit more to the AC of our Shield.
As Fighter bonus feat for that level I am thinking Weapon Focus (warhammer).

That leaves a spot open for the 5th level feat. (Right, a new feat every other level! YAY!)

I am torn between some Pathfinder feats (foremost Dazzling Display and Defensive combat training) and some Book of Experimental Might feats (That Seeker needs to look over first though: Hamper Defense, Block, Macefighter...)

But I thought maybe one of you has a good Idea too, so here's the question: What would you think would fit Guard as 5th level feat?

Having the door out of the way, Guard looks around the room to visualize, where his opponents are. While he does that, his companions fell two of the bullywugs.
Seeing them succeed so easily, he still keeps on his guard, tries something new Snem taught him on the ship. With a short concentration his whole body is not only surrounded by the blueish flames of his intangible Mantle, but also by a visible aura.
free action: activate Incarnum radiance: +1AC -> AC 23, 6 rounds

Bringing his shiny warhammer up, Guard moves a step to his right left on the map, towards the lone bullywug in the corner of the room, attacking him fiercly:
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Action Point: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Probably not a hit...

Guard offers his Potion of Shield of Faith +2 to anyone wanting it, before opening the double door to the room.
He then waits for the bullywugs to act, as he is so damn slow, unlike Toxim with his Ini of 113!

I'd vote: north double door. Guard takes three rounds to detect evil, getting the number and direction of the bullywugs, then the group storms in.
No splitting, for I would not know how to signal the attack to the other locations.

Silently Guard notions to the others where he feels the evil ones lurking. He takes his time to get to know how many of them there are and shows the others the number with his fingers, pointing in the bullywugs general direction as they proceed.
The warforged intends to clean this floor first.

"Duh... Now where did I put that sheath for my flaming Warhammer?"

Daurros Erdai wrote:
Unfortunately, web is not dismissable. Just gotta wait until it expires on its own. But it keeps the area before the stairs as difficult terrain while it lasts, so it adds a buffer in case of more attacks.

Hmm... according to the PRD, it is. It has a duration of "10min./lvl (D)" where the '(D)' stands for dismissible.

But if you want to keep it up as buffer, I got no problem with that (though I don't think that's necessary).

Looking down the stairs, Guard concentrates to find out hints of other evil creatures lurking below.

Detect Evil. Might not get a reading due to range, but it's a try. Maybe they aren't even evil at all.

Guard silently waits for Daurros to dismiss his web-spell, then takes whatever throwing weapons he might find on the bullywugs, offering one or two of them to the other members, if they ask for them.

After retrieving those weapons, he hooks them under his potion-belt and keeps near Lavina, having his shield raised, his hammer ready.

Would I have been online I probably would have asked you about it, but oh well. Can't have everything.

Guard seems more silent after Snem vanished from the channeling of the bullywug.
With determination he fights the bullywugs left, doing not much other aside.
I hope Seeker thought to the Mantle of Flame and the damage the bullywugs take from attacking me.
Essentia investments:
2 points into the Incarnate weapon: Attack and damage bonus +2
1 point into the Mantle of Flame: 2d6 fire damage to those attacking Guard in melee.

His shield raised Guard swings his hammer towards the next bullywug in a wide circle.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

"If nobody answers my knocking, what are the chances of someone answering a shout out? I surely wasn't going easy on that door."

Guard moves over to the first door on the left, looking for the others to be prepared when he opens the door.

"Yeah... I didn't want to go in without backup." Guard speaks.
Sense Motive DC 5: ... right.

Now that the door is open, Guard moves in first, shield raised.

Guard replies "I doubt anyone..." (he swallows down an unforgiving 'alive') "is in there. I knocked so hard, just short of breaking down the door."

"What took you so long!? ... Have you been in a fight? Again? ... Damn. No one seems to be here. No one answered my knocking. I didn't know what to do but wait for you to arrive. Where could they all be?
Ardanto? You spent some time with the Lady, what would you guess? Any place she mentioned?" the warforged splutters forth, having had some time to clean himself a bit.

Miss me?

DM:

Spoiler:

What is taking them so long?... I hope they aren't in any trouble.
Maybe they where here before me, and took the Lady somewhere safe? Hmm... gonna wait a bit longer.

Guard gets a bit impatient, as anyone can see looking at Snem hopping nervously in the air above Guard.

DM:

Spoiler:

"DAMN!" the warforged shouts in frustration, slaming his fist against the door.
Not home, I hope. Better than being too late.
What to do... Searching? Where to start... Waiting for the others it is then. Can't do anything else...
Snem? Get up a bit, look out for them others. And the Lady, if we have luck.

Spoiler:

Good, Right there. the warforged thinks while climbing.
"Pal, you gotta go now. Don't think you like it up there." he speaks to the octopus that clang to his leg.
Being up in the open he hopes that his looks might open up a path in the crowd. Guard hurries over to the Estate, knocking hard on the door.
"Quick, open up. I need to speak to Lady Vanderboren, as fast as possible. She got any visitors right now? Is she at home at all? I hope she's not out there somewhere..."

DM:

Spoiler:

I just hope that's the right shore... It should be. ... I don't think I missed an intersection...
Little friend, you're about to go now, once I get up to the waterline, right?

DM:

Spoiler:

Guard moves as fast as he can in the muck of the ground. As long as the octopus doesn't hinder him any more, he's fine with making the taxi for the poor fella with too many arms. And a handwarm taxi he is (mantle of flame).
Snem might float down to inspect the traveler, but won't blast at him as long as he's just hugging.
you tell me if you need any rolls

I stand corrected.

It seems I have to update Guard a bit more now, even if he's no cleric.

All the while, the discussion is not the type of thing Guard wants to do now, so he just jumps into the canal, and moves on the ground on to Lavina's estate, hoping to be able to climb the canals side once he's getting there.
That should be a nice splash on the croud. Let's hope that gets them back on track.

"Right... It was an idea, might have worked. So, who wants to lead the way?"

"Hmm, yeah, stick to us. Help us get to Lady Vanderboren.
...
I got an Idea how to get there... don't know if it works though.
How 'bout you keep in the boat, and I take a walk on the ground of the canals, draging you behind me on a rope?
I don't know, but I think that is quicker than walking or rowing..."

isn't that obvious?

"Ah, right. I'm going with you on the boat out to the ship then and take a dive from there. As long as the ship's anchored, I have a nice way up again as well as I don't loose direction underwater with that point of reference."

"If I had any direction on where to look, it would not take a month to find it, if I can find it at all. It's no problem for me to be down there for so long, but I rather delay that for a better time, when time is a friend of ours.
I don't think it will dissappear, if it really is down there." Guard speaks, a bit torn.

Guard stops dead, then turns back again. He's pretty much running now, speaking: "You're right. Let's get 'em."

"How much time did that cost us... Move out!" Guard speaks, immediately after the monster fell. He just turns and moves on, wondering if they will ever get back in time.

Hmm... with the aid of Toxim that could be a hit after all...

Snem can't do much else than blast again at the Savage woman, hitting her straight again.
Soul Blast with Essentia, round three (1d20+9=27, 1d6+3=7)

Then Guard tries to hit her again with the hammer swung around, but misses.
Flanking Good Incarnate Warhammer attack with Action Point (1d20+1d6+6=17)

Toxim ir' Kinain wrote:

You know what? I can't hurt these things anyway, so I'll maintain the flank and aid another. I believe that Finn has the magic spear so I'll aid him or Guard or Snem if he is not available.

Aid another check 1d20+4=16

I'm sorry, but that wasn't in character speech, was it?

Snem continues to blast at the Savage, hitting her again, but doing little damage.
Sould Blast with Essentia, Round two (1d20+9=19, 1d6+3=4)

"Damnit, DIE! will ya?" the warforged shouts, swinging his warhammer around to let it meet the monster again.
Warhammer Attack with Essentia and Action Point (1d20+1d6+6=24, 1d8+4=10)

"We don't have time for that!" the Warforged exclaimes, charging up to the savage:
Charge with action point used. (1d20+1d6+8=19, 1d8+4=7)

Snem silently hovers next to Guards head, floating through the air at the same pace Guard runs, simply blasting at the woman.
Soul Blast with Essentia. (1d20+9=18, 1d6+3=7)

Going back the fastest way we know it is

Snems color shifts to a dark blue at the question of Finn, while Guard answers: "I did. And I found myself incorporating Judge and Executioner more often than I am comfortable with."
He makes a short pause, but it is not sure, if he relives the time in his head, or if he just thinks what to say next.

Eventually he speaks again: "That was another life. I was not Guard then. In fact, I had no name. I didn't really think about what I did. I just did." again followed a pause.

Snem slowly took on a brighter color again. It was a deep, rich, middle blue, like the sky on a sunny day might have, shortly after the sun arose, and just before it gets too bright.

"It wasn't right of her to seek revenge in sending the assasine to Lavina. But it was just that: Revenge. Not an act of Evil."

A short time later, Guard comes back to Finn, speaking again: "A friend handed me a book of knowledge. I had to think a bit to remember the passage I read in it, but it goes something like this:

A warrior of the Light is never indifferent to injustice.
And injustice is what that Captain back there did to us and Lavina, but let me finish that quote:

He knows that all are one and that each individual action affects everyone on the planet. That is why, when confronted by the suffering of others, he uses his sword to restore order.
That seems unlike what I did, doesn't it?

Now here comes the important part:
But even though he fights against oppression, at no point does he attempt to judge the oppressor. Each person will answer for his actions before God and so, once the warrior has completed his task, he makes no further comment.
A warrior of the Light is in the world in order to help his fellow man, not to condemn his neighbor.
"

Finn wrote:

Finn resumes his normal size and catches up to Guard. "Warforged -- how can you remain so calm when that worthless blackguard says she has deliberately put Lavinia's life in danger? Are you more machine than man, with a cog where your liver should be?" The spearman's tone is more bewildered than angry.

"Hmm... I see that as an extreme action in an extreme situation. Plus, she only knew that Vanthus had a family. For all she knew, the whole House Vanderboren might have been such scumbags as Vanthus is one.

In a sense, she doesn't react unlike we do: Lavina wants us to capture her Brother and bring him back. But I think we wont get him back alive, thanks to our own hands and heads.

I don't know if that helps you to understand why I am not too angry at her. Sure, she did something wrong. Sure, she should have informed herself better... But there is only so much a person can do in certain situations.
Right now we have to accept that there is an assasine out for Lavina's head. And he has a good headstart on us. So, I think it's best not to argue too much, but rather try to stop him, before it is too late." Guard speaks calmly, but loud enough for anyone to hear.
He steps out fast, not to get away from Finn, but to cover as much ground as possible.

At Finn's outburst, Guard just shoulders his weapon, turns around and begins to leave the Cave.

"Stop it." Guard speaks calmly "She's not our enemy. How could she have known? It was a mistake.
But now we need to right that wrongdoing. And fast." He ends, turned to the Captain.

can I spend an action point to get a 20 on that diplomacy?

"Daurros, you think that pearl is important? I could take a walk and look to find it, if it's on the bottom of the sea.
But the rest of our gathering should head back to Lavina before Drevoraz finds her."
Looking to the woman he speaks on: "Captain, you should probably go with them. We can still clear the details on the way."

"Heh... We're on the same side than, at least until Vanderboren has met his end." Guard chuckles at the swearing.

"Now, could somebody dismiss this web-spell?"

"Whoa Lady!" Guard exclaims, lowering his hammer, opening himself, letting his defense drop.
"We wanted to help you out, but appearently you don't really need much help at all.

I'm Guard, and we are ... here to seek out a guy named Vanderboren. We have some scores to settle with him." Who was it that suggested a name for our rag-tag band? We have to think of one soon... Guard states openly, looking for her reaction on the mention of the name. He keeps his distance for the moment.

Having finished another of the savages, Guard does nothing more than wade on through the webs, going as fast as he is able to

Ardanto Valanto wrote:
Ardanto looks round at Daurros and shakes his head, [b]"and he has the a front to tell me I am putting people at risk?" he watches Guards progress into the webbing, not willing to risk him self becoming entangled.

"What are you arguing about? You are all pretty save back where you are."

"I rather do it the old-fashioned way!" Guard shouts back at Daurros, heading on.

Guard made a double move last round, so he should be further down by now... Which I assume for the following actions. So take em and throw em out the window if they don't fit.

Guard moves on, slowly because of the webbings, towards the lone Savage, shield raised, hammer ready to strike.
Coming close to the monster, Snem lets out a Soul Blast, that misses due to the unpredictable movement of the monster in the web:
Soul Blast with Essentia, round 2 (1d20+9=12, 1d6+3=8)

Finally closing in on the savage, Guard tries to hit it, but he is hindered from the webbing as well...
Warhammer with Essentia and Action Point, Round 2 (1d20+1d6+6=16, 1d8+4=7)

Snem has to delay until Guard can act, as Snem can't get more than 5ft. away from Guard

Guard rushes to aid the woman as fast as he can, hammer held up high: "The hammer of light will end the darkness!"

But he fails to come close enough to any one of the savages to be able to attack.
nearest Savage is 50ft. away, Guard only has a movement of 20ft.
